New ipod nano 2 gig

just got an ipod nano 2 gig from santa and found that i can't use it with my computer. i have a HP Pavillion Home Edition Version 2002, 2.10 GHz, 448 MB of Ram, service pack 2, using Windows XP.
The ipod specs ask for a service pack 4. I asked HP what to do. they said I should get a cd from apple to install what i need to run the ipod on my computer. i'm totally confused about it all. what do i need to do. return the ipod, upgrade my computer, or...
thanks,
babs

Windows Requirements
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later or Windows XP
500 MHz Pentium class processor or better
QuickTime 7.1.3 (included)
256MB RAM
Supported CD-R or DVD-R drive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
It sounds like you just need to do a windows update to get from SP2 to SP4... but then again Microsoft likes not supporting its old products so may no longer support that.
You may want to look into older versions of iTunes online... this is the latest for version 7.
If not, ask Santa for a Mac!!
HP should have said "do a windows update"... you fall within all of the requirements except for the Service Pack version.
Good luck, see what happens when you try to update your version of windows online.
Edit:
Did you try installing iTunes on your computer? SERVICE PACK 4 IS FOR WINDOWS 2000 ONLY NOT XP!!!!
You should go to www.apple.com/itunes download iTunes and install it on your computer.

  • New IPOD nano and getting HKEY_LOCAL_Machine\software\Classes\quicktime

I tried to install the software for my new iPod Nano and it would nto load for this message:
could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTime,QuickTime\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel. I've tried shutting off the firewall and made APPLE a trusted site. I even removed the old Quicktime from my computer and this did not work. Please help this not very tech savvy old lady.

    I had a similar error:
    Could not open key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayerLib
    .QuickTimePlayerApp\CLSID. Verify that you have
sufficient access to that key, or contact your
    support personel.
Apple help told me it was a Windows problem and that
I needed the Service Pack 2 (SP2). I already had that
update, so that alone was not the problem. In surfing
the net, I found an answer for my error that worked
on bleepingcomputer.com from HitSquad. Here it is, it
    may work for you too:
Click Start>Run and type "regedit" (without the
quotes)in the Run dialog box and click OK. This will
open the Windows Registry Editor. In the left side of
the window, navigate to the path in the error
message. HKEYLOCALMACHINE is the top folder,
Software is the next folder, etc., etc. Right click
on the Quicktime.qt folder and select
"Permissions...". In the Security tab, it should list
Group or user names you have. Select a user name and
in the lower part of the window, make sure "Full
Control" and "Read" have check marks under "Allow".
Click "Apply". Now log back on under the username
listed in the upper part of the window.
Mine had a strange twist, even though I am an
Adminstrator on my computer, for some reason, my user
name was not listed. My son's user name was - maybe
because he loaded the itunes initially? I changed his
account to administrator and loaded itunes and
QuickTime under his name and the error went away.
Anyway, itunes 7 is now working. I'm no expert, but
this worked for me. Good Luck!
    JB
This was a fix for me. I have to use my wifes log in to windows. I think she might have loaded the itunes a while ago under her log in. Good Luck everyone. At least now I can use my 80 gig ipod for something else than a paper weight. I must say though, Microsoft would have had a fix by now for this.
    Good night and good luck,
    Chief

  • Microphone for new iPod nano?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a microphone you can buy for the new iPod Nano? I record a lot of acoustic music and need to get it into my iTunes Library. I'd rather not carry my iBook around.
    Thanks
Aluminum iPod Nano, iBookG4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

the new nanos can do recording - the old ones cant.
im confused, is this nano your speaking about the
black glossy one?, cuase if it is the microphone
    is
not compatible with it is it?
the new nanos are the 2 generation of the old ones, only apple snatched the samsung glossy nanos since they had the patent and jumped on it at that quarter year, yes seccess story.
But as i remember, they all record yet apple never provided a microphone solution for them., and the older iPods all have accesories like mics etc etc. and all the new iPods do not, or maybe the 30 and 60 gigs do but are very expensive.
Can anyone confirm how to record on a nano and what mics to get?

  • I have many very old songs on my PC and want to move them to my new IPOD Nano 7th. How do I do this?

I want to put all of my real old songs in my PC library onto my new IPOD Nano 7th generation.  How do I do this?

Import them into an iTunes library if needed, and then sync the iPod with that library.

  • Can i use my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro

I registered my new ipod nano 7th generation on my macbook pro.  While on my macbook, I tried to download wma audiobooks from the library using overdrive media console & its not working.....so, I decided to use my windows laptop.  I have the latest version of itunes on both laptops.  (I know I can download & transfer wma audiobooks to my shuffle using overdrive media console & windows laptop.)  I'm getting an error message that says I have to reformat my nano if I want to download wma audiobooks.  Can I use my nano on macbook pro & windows laptop?  will I ever be able to download wma audiobooks to my nano using macbook?

Your iPod Nano will need to be restored in iTunes on the Windows laptop before you can start adding/syncing content over to it.
Or if you want to use it with OverDrive on the Mac, you'll need to download the books as MP3s as WMA is not supported.

How do you use new ipod nano with Itunes 10.6.3.  I have MBP and it lists itunes 10.6.3 as most current version and won't let me install itunes 11

The seventh generation iPod nano requires at least iTunes 10.7 and Mac OS X 10.6.

  • I have iTunes on my iPad. I have a new iPod nano. How do I connect iPod to iPad to download iTunes and music library?

I have iTunes on my iPad. I have a new iPod nano. How do I connect iPod to iPad to download iTunes and music library?

    Hi Divine Inspiration,
You wouldn't connect the iPod to the iPad for data transfers. Music is stored and shared either through a computer or iCloud.
This article gives an overview of moving music and data off the iPad.

I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and iTunes 11.0.1.  When I tether my new iPod Nano, the icon shows up on my desktop, but does not show up under devices in iTunes.  The Nano says it is connected and synching, but I cannot download music if it doesn't show up under devices.

    Hi,
Have you managed to solve this problem? if yes, please highlight how you solved it...i'm facing same problem with my new Iphone 5S but udner Windows, thanks.

  • NEW IPOD NANO WILL NOT CONNECT CORRECTLY TO 2011 KIA SPORTAGE

Have a new Ipod nano. when I connect it to 2011 Kia Sportage it does not display the song list correctly. Have cable that Kia sells and it worked with my old Nano but not not the new one. Same results with cable that came with new nano. Help please

Alternatively, you can always use a double ended 3.5mm audio plug and just manipulate the playlist via the iPod and not the radio.

  • New IPOD Nano will not sync.  iTunes recognizes it, I think.  It knows its there and says I can transfer purchases from it but it will not let me sync it to my existing itunes.

I received a new IPOD nano for CHristmas.  Itunes shows it there on summary, it is showing with the eject symbol.
However, when I go to file/sync, it allows me to transfer purchases but not sync it.  It also does not show up in my playlist like my older NANO does.
I have reset, I have toggled security on and off.  I am current on the software on both my IPOD and ITunes.

I was having the same problem...plugged in my new device and although I was able to set it up and it was recognized in iTunes, hit the sync button and nothing...even when it said it was syncing, still nothing. I am not sure this will work for you but I did two things that were suggested in this forum in combination with one another.
First, I plugged my Nano into different USB port on my laptop from the one I was using. when I reconnected, my devie again was displayed in the top right corner. I clicked on it and the summary page appeared. The one thing I hadn't done is go to the "music" tab. When I arrived there I found that the "sync music" tab was unchecked for some reason. I checked the block and instantly the download started.
As I said, I don't know if you have tried this or if it will even work for you but after an hour of frustration...I felt a little silly that it was something so simple I had negelected and thought I would share.
    Good  luck!

  • Solved: New iPod nano 8g not seen in My Computer/iTunes after Apple Support

I received this iPod as a Christmas gift and it has taken months to get it working but I am happy to say I finally did. I wanted to post what I did to solve the problem in case anyone else is having the same issue.
    Background Information:
    - Windows XP operating system (I had to upgrade to SP 2 just for this iPod)
    - Computer works fine with an older iPod nano
    - New iPod nano would simply bring up the "Install Hardware Wizard" and always resulted in "Cannot Install Hardware"
    - Nothing would show up in My Computer
    - iPod would say "Connected, Eject before disconnecting" when it was connected
    - Under "Services" iPod service was running & Started
    - Under "Device Manager" iPod showed up under "Other Devices" with an exclamation/question mark for "iPod" (note: this did not show up under USB controllers)
What I Have Tried That Didn't Work:
    - Downloading new iTunes. I did this a few times and ended up with 7.6.1.9
    - Uninstall and reinstall iTunes and Quicktime
    - Tried Install Hardware Wizard option to search for drivers in c:\WINNT\inf (or c:\windows\inf if that's what you have)
    - Restarted computer several times and tried creating a new user in Windows XP
    - Tried going to "Right-click-My Computer"-"Manage"-"Device Manager" and uninstalled any instance of iPod (under "Other Devices") and tried refreshing / re-installing
    - Tried stopping and restarting the iPod service in "Services"
    - Tried restarting iPod, resetting it, all those 5 R's and other Apple support docs online
    - Tried finding answers in forums
    - Finally today I spent a few hours on the phone with Apple Support, and after repeating everything in their self-help documents online, and it still didn't work, they said "Call Microsoft and tell them you have a driver issue" and that my new iPod needed some additional driver (which is why old iPod works but not new)
So that's where I left off this afternoon. I think I've seen people who haven't had much luck getting Microsoft support to help with iPod issues, so I continued searching online. I tried updating my Video driver from the Gateway.com website and that didn't work.
On the microsoft.com website, the best I could find was a registry change which told me to delete registry keys for UpperFilters and LowerFilters, which I didn't even have so I couldn't try.
Finally, here is the solution to what worked:
I searched for iPod - specific drivers, and on some random help forum - http://www.computing.net/hardware/wwwboard/forum/43267.html
You'll see they mention "usbstor.inf" which needs to be in c:\winnt\inf (or c:\windows\inf). I checked my computer and it was missing. Luckily, it was there on my work laptop which was also recently upgraded to Windows XP so I e-mailed it to myself (glad I didn't have to trust some one online).
I also followed his directions to add "usbstor.sys" from c:\winnt\servicepack files\i386\ to c:\winnt\system32\drivers.
    Lastly, I saw some other usb*.inf and usb*.pnf files on my laptop so I decided what-the-heck, I'll grab them all since I only had usbvideo.inf, and thus I extracted the following into my c:\winnt\inf directory: usb.inf, usb.pnf, usbport.inf, usbport.pnf, usbprint.pnf, usbprint.inf, usbstor.pnf, usbtor.inf.
I restarted my computer and right away my iPod magically appeared in MyComputer and when I opened iTunes, it was also successfully there. Funny thing is, Windows Install Hardware Wizard popped up and I pointed it to that directory -- guess what, it didn't work. Apparently that doesn't matter. Every time I plug in my iPod now, I will just skip the "Install New Hardware Wizard" and go straight to iTunes.
I know this was lengthy but I thought I could save some one else hours of checking around--- just go look in your "inf" directory and make sure you have the usbstor.inf file!
    Good luck!!!!

  • How do I sync iCloud/iTunes Match content with my new iPod nano?

I have a MacBook Air with the associated small flash drive. For that reason, all of my music is in the cloud and some of it is via iTunes Match. I bought a new iPod Nano and I want to sync most or all of my music with that device for use when I travel and do not have WiFi available. When I did my initial sync it says I have 38 songs. Obviously those are only the ones on the local drive = recent purchases. How can I sync all of my music with this iPod whithout having to download all of my music to my MacBook first - an impossibility due the limited drive space? Or am I just out of luck and need to return the iPod to the store. Thanks!

Ipod is not compatible to iCloud. The only way to load the music is through iTunes.

  • I have a new ipod nano and have created an Apple ID and provided all of my account details including address (shipping and billing and debit card). When trying to buy music through itunes I am told to review my account details. i.e. I cannot use itunes!!

I have a new ipod nano but at the moment I am unable to download music through itunes. I'm so disappointed. I have created an Apple ID, reviewed and inputted all of my data for my account and still get told to 'review account' because my ID has not 'been used with Itunes before. Why is this happening and why don't apple have a more intuative way of dealing with this.
Please help, I am completely frustrated.

You'll either have to redeem an iTunes gift card, or create a new ID by following the directions here:

  • Multiple issues with new IPod Nano+ ITunes 7

I am a formerly happy and loyal Apple user, but have recently become disenchanted due to what I see as bad faith actions.
I bought a new Ipod nano for my wife and brought it home to set up. When I plugged it in, it told me that I needed ITunes 7. Fair enough, I go up to download ITunes 7, only to be told that it won't work with OS 10.2.8 and that I need 10.3.9. There is nothing on the IPod packaging that indicates that I can only use ITunes 7. So as far as I can tell, Apple wants me to pay another $129 to buy a new OS, so that I can use my new ipod. It doesn't give me the option to use it with my existing setup. Is there a workaround so that I can use my ipod with my existing OS?
I started transferring my music collection to a PC to see if I could make it work there, since ITunes 7 works with Windows XP, which I have. This creates a new problem, since I can't seem to get the DRM protected music I bought on my Mac through ITunes to work on the PC. Can't get it to load onto the IPod, which is my whole intent in transferring it. My solution now is to not buy anything more from Itunes, since it will be a pain to transfer it when I change computers. I am not going to burn CDs for 400 songs, just to load them onto another computer. It seems like there are solutions on the web that can help you strip the DRM protection from songs, so I plan on using those to be able to listen to the music that I paid for.
Sor far, I have spent multiple hours trying to make things work. I have no interest in anything other than being able to listen to my music on our Ipods. While I understand the necessity to protect copyrights and limit illicit sharing, Apple has gotten a little too manipulative of a loyal customer base. Apple can count me in the formerly happy, now alienated group.
    Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

I just looked at one of the boxes for the new nano, and it has this on the back:
Requires Mac or PC; USB 2.0; Mac OS X v10.3.9
