New ipod - needs v7.6.2 or later, but running XP SP1

Have purchased a new 80GB ipod, but itunes is saying this ipod requires version 7.6.2 or later. Tried to download version 8, but running Windows XP service pack 1 - and so it won't work.
Nearly crashed computer last night trying to download XP service pack 2!
Is there any way of getting a version prior to 8, that will work with SP1 and my new ipod???

Its not telling you to update your iPad, its telling you you need to download a recent version itunes on your computer.

Thanks Carolyn. I understand that my usable capacity may be less than 8gb for all those reasons.
But here is my problem.
I did a restore. The free capacity was then shown as 6.3gb, then I added 75mb on mb4 files. The free capacity showing was then 5.3gb. I know that these files are approximately 75mb because I have them on my older 3G iPod touch and they are working quite fine and don't take up more than the expected room.

New ipod need help with songs from old one NEED HELP!!!!

I got a new ipod nano 3rd gen. but it wont let me take all of my old songs from my old ipod(nano 1st gen) and put them on my new one! I dont want to lose my songs so PLEASE HELP!!

When I did that on my old ipod and it said doing so will delete all the songs on it and replace it with my library. When I did it on my new ipod it just put the songs that was already in that playlist back on the ipod, not the songs that i need from the old one.

Hi, my iPod was showing an unhappy face a few weeks ago, it then started to miraculously work and then stopped again. Its quite an old one (about 3 - 4 years) and has a click wheel, think its 4th gen? Anyway, my question is (!!) is it knackered and should I just get a new one? If I do get a new one, how do I make sure that my existing iTunes updates the new iPod?

Normally, iPod battery needs to be replaced for around 18 months. You can either ask apple to replace for you or you can find some other 3rd party service company, of course you can replace by yourself if you are good enough on dealing with tiny electronic part

Brand New Ipod, Need Help QUICK!

its a brand new ipod, i wanted to update it, and it froze, it is stuck on the "Do Not Disconnect" screen, the only way i get it off this screen is if i actually disconnect... than when i reconnect it just does the same thing, and no, it does not have the loading thingey on the top left...

I bought a new ipod touch. When I hooked it up to my computer for the first time, it gave me the option of restoring the information from my previous ipod onto this one. I have had 2 other ipod touches and the names were very similar. I didn't know which one was my last one, so I just picked one and it was the wrong one. Is there a way that I can correct this and go back and choose the other ipod information to put onto this new ipod touch?
Let me know if I am unclear about anything. Thank you in advanced for your help.

i have an 8 gig touch 2nd gen. populating it with content was very fast.
my recommendation would be to restore the sucker to its original settings (summary tab > restore) and start over.
i expect your previous touches had nothing on 'em that's not still in your iTunes lib, correct ? so, following the restore, you just feed the new touch with exactly the same content that you fed the previous ones. what you got to lose ?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

Just got an iPad. I have a PowerPC G4 OS X 10.4.11 at home (Tiger). I tried to sync with my iTunes but it says I need iTunes 10.1 or later. I tried to download the newest version of iTunes and it says I need OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later. How do I use my iPad without having to upgrade my home G4 to a Leopard?

I am pretty sure that you can still but Leopard - maybe even search the online Apple Store.
If it were feasible and affordable, the ideal situation would be to upgrade your Mac - buy a new one with Snoe Leopard on it. That's easier said than done with you having just bought an iPad. But Leopard will be as high as you can go on the Power PC and soon Lion will be here.
I recently (3 months ago) upgraded my Leopard MacBook to Snow Leopard in anticipation of Lion. I love Macs and Apple products, but at some point, as with other tech devices, you have to upgrade to keep up with the technology.

New iPod touch received today from Apple Store still running 2.2.1

I received my 8GB iPod Touch 2G from Apple Store (Hong Kong) this morning (August 28, 2009). I order it earlier this week.
After checking, it runs 2.2.1, not 3.0.x. Plugged in iTunes, it told me I need to pay USD9.95 to upgrade it to version 3.
Called Apple rep and the guy said this is expected.
I supposed all the new iPod ordered from the Apple online store should come with the latest s/w installed, or at least a promo voucher to claim the upgrade if it is not practical to upgrade all the inventory.
Is this the case in other countries?

Apple have not yet announced any iPod touches that ship with v3.0 pre-installed, which is why all the product pages for the iPod touch on the Apple web-site, only list features in v2.0

For the last 5 years or so, new iPod models have been released in September each year.
1st generation iPod touches were shipped with OS v1.0 in September 2007
2nd generation iPod touches are shipped with OS v2.0 in September 2008
3rd generation iPod touches and ones that ship with OS v3.0 have not yet been announced.

I also had problems with iTunes 7 when it first came out, but 7.0.2 is working for me and seems to have fixed a lot of the problems. It's worth a try if you need iTunes 7 for your new iPod.

Why will my brand new iPod touch allow me to purchase songs but not download them?
