New iPod, PLS help me!!

Hi folks,
I had an ipod and an established library before I broke the iPod. I went and bought a new ipod, assured that even though it has a different registration number and so forth, it would absorb all the music from my old playlists as soon as it was connected to the computer. Didn't happen.
I've since updated to iTunes 5, and "restored" the actual iPod (not sure why because there was nothing to restore - was worth a shot).

Jessie,
Are you using Windows? If you are, the iPod needs to be formatted for Windows use first of all.
Download and install the latest iPod Updater, then restart your computer.
Run the updater program, connect your iPod when prompted (not before), and follow the set up procedure, and you should be good to go.

  • I cannot download my old itunes library to my new ipod - please help!!!!

Unfortunately in August 2006 someone nicked my Ipod mini - thanks! So my insurance co. replaced it with an ipod nano. I've installed the new software disk that came with my ipod nano and hooked up with the old itunes library to my new ipod nano. Simple huh? Not likely. It says I have too many tunes in my itunes library to download to my new ipod. However the mini and nano are both the same size -4G so why now is it telling my I have too many songs to download to my ipod nano? I have even deselected some from the library but no luck. My old ipod mini was not full to capacity anyway? any ideas?
It could be that my current pc is not logged to the internet - AOL fault currently being sorted but surely that should not stop me updating my ipod? The tunes are in the library the new 4g ipod (allbeit a nano and not a mini as was) is connected yet the **** thing says I have too many tunes selcted to download WHEN I KNOW I DONT! Help......... please does anyone have a clue where i'm going wrong its driving my nuts!

Why not?  What happens when  you try?
Is the content selected to sync?

  • Old ipod 2 new ipod, please help!

    Good evening friends,
I hope you are well. I am planning to get an 160GB ipod classic next week.
I currently have a 4th generation ipod (not colour screen) with about 8,000 songs on it. These songs are not on my computer as I manually update my ipod, this is because i use a work laptop and they constantly update it / change it and I am scared I lose my songs.
I am very worried about losing all my music on my ipod as it has taken me ages to put them all on, however I believe that there is no way to transfer these songs from the existing ipod to my new one??????
I have seen programs - ipod2ipod, etc are these any good?
I am leaving my work to go travelling and will be handing the laptop in soon so I am keen to transfer all music, pictures etc onto new ipod, but not store them on laptop?
I would be very grateful for your help? i am very scared!!!!!
    Best Regards,
    NJT

You can't transfer directly from one iPod to another so at least until you load the new one you'll have to copy the songs back to your computer. Once they are back in iTunes you can add them onto your new iPod.
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • New Ipod PLEASE help- skipping sings

This is what happens to me...I have tried the suggestions on the apple site but they don't work- I bought a new ipod bc this is what happened with my last one so I thought the ipod was the problem- but obviously it is something in itunes...Thanks so much for any suggestions!!!
Content you purchased from the iTunes Store won't play your on iPod. The content plays correctly in iTunes, and all non-purchased content (such as content imported from audio CD) plays normally on the iPod. The purchased songs' titles are visible on the iPod but appear to be skipped over without being played.

  • Big Problem with brand new iPod please help ME!!

Hi, I just today got a brand new iPod. I pluged it into my computer and put on about 700 songs immediatly. Then, I tried to put video on my iPod. It said it would not do this because it's not the right type of iPod. But it is a 5th Gen. iPod and it can play video. Anyway, I installed the latest iPod updater. Now, it says to install the new iTunes 6.01. So I tried but it says my disk is full. It is not full. Also, do I have to keep my previous "iPod for windows" files that are occupying space on my disk?

    Kenny,
If you can back your songs up, and you have not rated a slew of them already, it might be a good idea to uninstall iTunes, then reinstall it and use the ipod updater to wipe the iPod. Just make sure you download and install 6.01 before you plug the iPod in. Maybe that will get you past the disk full problem. Just something to try.

  • ITunes keeps closing when I try to resore my new iPod. Help!

    Hi all,
    I'm running a iBook G4 and I've just bought a brand-new iPod.
It all seemed to work alright, but loads of the album artwork on the iPod doesn't match the song, and it's driving me insane, so I decided to wipe the iPod and start over.
BUT, whenever I connect the iPod and click 'Restore' in the iTunes menu, iTunes just closes. Gone. Nothing.
So I can't update the iPod. Also, whenever I click any other part of iTunes, it also disappears.
Anybody got any advice? It's really driving me mad now, I don't know what else to try...
(Oh, also, my new iPod volume bar doesn't appear when I change the volume - surely this isn't right?!)

My new 80GB iPod is doing the same thing. I can't click on anything other than the summary, or iTunes crashes. This happens most of the time, but not quite every time, which makes things even more mysterious. When I do manage to click on something other than the summary, all of the songs under the iPod are grayed out, and it won't let me manually manage them, even though I have that option selected. This has been happening on an eMac running 10.4 with iTunes 7.0.2. When I tried with my dad's powerbook, it didn't happen (also 10.4 with iTunes 7.0.2), but I only tried it once.

BTW i tried downloading the latest version of the ipod updater to no avail
So you were not able to download the iPod Updater?
    What happens?

I thought of uninstalling the ipod software from the previous ipod but am afraid to lose my music on itunes.
You can't "uninstall" the software from the iPod.
You can Restore the iPod to erase it but it will still have the iPod OS on it.
This won't affect your computer at all.

  • A Few Questions/Problems With My New iPod *PLEASE HELP*

Hello! I just received my first iPod (4th Gen, 4GB, Red Nano) two days ago (Christmas Eve) and have so far been fairly happy with it. However, I'm experiencing a few problems with it and am hoping that someone could help me.
Firstly, a few of the album covers on my iPod are just black squares. I've read other complaints about this on the forums, but haven't seen any solutions. What can I do to fix this?
Second, I can't figure out how to put my songs in order. On iTunes, it allows me to put songs in alphabetical order, but being that most of my songs are part of full albums, I want my songs to be in the order of when they play on the actual albums. When I try to drag my songs into their correct places, I'm not able to.
Also, is there any way to delete the games that my iPod came with? I think they might be taking up too much room for my liking...
OK, well if you can help or add some extra tips to getting started with my iPod, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  • New iPod - Please help

I am good at technology, but this iPod is driving me crazy. When I plug it in to the computer, all I get is a flashing "Do Not Disconnect." What am I doing wrong? It won't stop flashing until I eject the iPod which really isn't what I want to do. I want to add some songs.
Also, is there a good book I can buy ...like iPod for Dummies. I downloaded the manual but, like all Apple manuals, I can't figure it out. The tutorial didn't help, either.
I am completely frustrated with this thing.

The Do Not Disconnect icon is completely normal, just install the iTunes software and start managing your ipod (it cannot be used while connected to the computer and can be managed via iTunes only!)

  • Trouble with sync'ing new iPod, please help!

So I jsut spent the last hour plus on the phone with Apple, and the problem I'm having is that I need to Microsoft XP Service Pack 3 installed for iTunes to work with the new nano. The snag is that I'm using my work computer and it won't let me install that new service pack (I'm currently using service pack 2). Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anyway I can get the new nano to work with service pack 2? I just bought this yesterday so I don't want to bring it back unless I have to.

You need administrator privileges to install service pack 3. If you are not the administrator, i suggest that you talk to someone who is. You said that this is your work computer. Is it on a network? Do you have an IT guy who can help you? Sorry that i cant be of much help, but you need to elaborate the problem.
