New ipod reliability compared to old

I purchased my 4G 20 gig standard ipod back in october. And currently it on its way to apple to be replaced a second time. At this time im considering purchasing a new 30 gig ipod video to replace my old one because I'm fed up with its lackluster reliability. How does the new ipod compare with the old in terms and reliabilty? Has anyone had to have theirs replaced yet? Multiple times yet?

I hate biased questions of this kind... On terms of reliability, they're probably about the same. You just got unlucky, coincidentally, more than once. Now, the Fifth Generation iPod is definitely better than the Fourth Generation, on terms of interface, "sleekness," and the fact that you can store/watch videos. Purchasing the new Fifth Generation iPod would be a worthy investment. Just remember, nothing is perfect.

  • How do I track an old (stolen) ipod touch if I already synced a new ipod touch with the old information without knowing it would not allow me to track my old ipod but my new one instead?

I lost my iPod touch (4th generation) over a week ago and did not think I installed the icloud on it. When I was setting up my new iPod touch (4th generation),
I saw that it automatically shows an option for icloud. That made me realize that I probably did install icloud in my old ipod. The problem is that I synced my old ipod with my new ipod on the computer. I thought if I didn't I would loose all of my old infomation. So now evertyime I use the app to find my iPod, it finds my new one. It shows only one device located under it. Is there a way I could find the old iPod? Or could I restore my new iPod and find the old one that way? I'm afraid if I restore it I would loose all my information from my old ipod.

That makes no difference in finding/tracking your lost/stolen device.
The old device will only show up in icloud.com if you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

Copy the music from Nano to computer by:

  • Sync new iPod Touch 4G to old iPod Touch 2G Library

When my new 4G iPod Touch arrives any day now, I'd like to sync it with my current 2G iPod Touch library. That is, I'd like to transfer all the data, apps, playlists, settings, etc. from my current 2G iPod Touch library to the new 4G iPod Touch. What is the easiest way to accomplish this? (Once the new iPod Touch is set up, the old iPT will no longer be used. I plan to reset/wipe it and possibly sell, so I have no need to sync both of them to the same library...)
    Thanks!

I wanted to let you know that I had the same concern and everything worked well EXCEPT the Apps transferring. It turns out that if you bought your apps directly through your old iPod Touch and not through the computer than you will have an issue with App data transfering over. Here's what to do.
1)connect your OLD iPod Touch to the computer, back it up, and disconnect.
2)connect your NEW iPod Touch to the computer and go through start up.
3)you should then be prompted to restore from back up or set up as new ipod (if not simply right click on the listed new device on iTunes and select restore from backup and click on recent backup)
4)All of your settings will now be the same as they were on your old iPod but you will NOT see your Apps (however all of the data from your old apps is on your new iPod just not where you can see it)
    5) Lastly, go to the App Store on your NEW iPod and download your old apps. (even if they cost money, it will not make you pay because it will recognize you have data from previous app on your iPod)

  • Install new Ipod without loosing my old tunes

I got a new ipod to replace my old one that got stolen out of my car. My question is this: Can I instal my new ipod while keeping my existing songs/videos on my itunes. I was under the impression that I had to reinstall Itunes. I do not want to throw away the 2000 songs I have.

You don't need to reinstall iTunes to use another iPod with it. Just connect your iPod and follow the on screen instructions, it will find your existing iTunes and update.

  • My brand new iPod classic is dropping old songs when I sync new ones. How do I fix this?

I have a brand new, less then a month old iPod classic. This is my second one as there first one I bought was defective and couldn't be recognized by my computer. This new one isn't without it's glitches. I had 465 songs on it and went to sync some songs, and videos I'd bought from itunes, I synced and unplugged my ipod. Itunes shows 488 items in my library and ipod shows 178. What's going on and how do I fix this?

What you are hearing is the sound of the iPod's internal hard drive spinning up to read data from disk for playback. So basically, what you are hearing is completely normal for the iPod Classic. If you still feel that it is unusually loud, find another person with an iPod Classic and compare them. If your iPod is louder, it could be signs of a faulty/damage drive, but don't be sure quick to jump to conclusions.

  • ITunes recognizes my new iPod but rejects my old iPod

My old iPod's battery is just about dead. It is three years old; I will send it to Apple for a new battery.
In the meantime, I bought a new 5th generation iPod, 60 GB. It's great! Eventually the old iPod will be my work iPid and the new one wil be the home and recreation iPod.
Here's the problem. I researched using two iPods from the same copy of iTunes. In response to my questions in this forum, someone referred me to the article at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432, "How to use multiple iPods with one computer", which I read, and which supported the idea that you can work with two iPods from one copy of iTunes.
My goal, then, was to follow Method Two as described in the article, and use two iPods from my one computer, without setting up separate user accounts for each one.
So -- I plopped in the CD that came with the new iPod, installed the latest iTunes. It had me register the new iPod by serial number.
In my copy of iTunes, my old iPod was called "Mae Sot's iPod". I set up the new iPod as "Mae Sot's New iPod".
I thought that from now on, when I plugged in my old iPod, iTunes would be able to recognize it, and when I plugged in the new one, iTunes would recognize it.
    Wrong.
My copy of iTunes does great now in working with the new Ipod. But it totally rejects the old one.
When I plus in the old iPod to synch/recharge, I first get the Windows message in the lower right part of the screen with the headline, "USB device is not recognized", telling me that "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it..."
The first time this happened, that message eventually went away, iTunes launched, and I got an error message saying there was no folder for the device.
Now when I plug in the old iPod, I just get the "USB device is not recognized..." message, and iTunes does not launch.
Any idea what is the problem?
My goal is to get iTunes to add my old iPod as a recognized device, so that I can clean the music off it and send it to Apple for a new battery.

I've got the same problem as well. When i connect all i see is "set up your iphone" screen. It worked perfectly fine a couple of weeks back when I last synced but, doesn't sycn anymore.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • I want to sync a second ipod touch to itunes, however my daughter has some how registered the new ipod  under my sons old one, she has deleted asll content and i have now reset it, how do i stop it being recognised as the old one

my daughters new ipod touch is being recognised as my sons old one on itunes, this has caused the ipod to lock and she has lost all content. i now want to get itunes to recognise her new ipod , but it is still recognising it as the old one, how can i sort this out

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

  • Want to load my NEW iPod and give my old one to someone else

I received a new iPod. My daughter is inheriting the old one and she has no interest in my music - surprise! I want to wait to load the new before wiping the old.
Can I load the new one before wiping the old - just in case?
I saw the instructions for wiping the old one but what is the proper order of events?

Toots, first thing to do is buy a keyboard with punctuation marks. They are really quite cheap these days and will help to make your posts much more readable. I would also pick a model with the ability to turn the cap lock key off.

  • New iPod is recognized; now old iPod isn't!

My new 5th generation 30GB iPod was plugged in yesterday after first updating iTunes with the most recent edition (i.e. from online). However, our older 4th generation iPod is no longer recognized, though it worked previous to the iTunes update and addition of the 5th gen iPod. I'm running Windows XP home, i've got separate user accounts for each iPod (though they both use the same library location since music tastes are the same), and i'm not smart enough to have any idea about what's going on.
There seem to be only two possible culprits: the iTunes update, which would somehow be incompatible with a year-old iPod; or the new iPod, whose installation is preventing the old iPod from being recognized somehow.
Any ideas, or even similar stories?

hi tasha,i had same problem, brand new ipod touch wouldnt connect 3 bars good signal, took back got another ipod same problem, went to apple store ipod would connect to their wifi, what i had to do was call router mfg up an had to go into router settings an change the channel it was using,i hav multiple devices using my home wifi they all worked except my ipod, i was using channel 10,was told to either us 6 or 11,once i changed channel in router my ipod worked fine, hope this solution works for you gl

  • Will my new ipod sync to my old one?

My old 3rd gen iPod touch just broke and I want the new iPod touch. If
I get it, will I be able to put the backup of my old iPod on the new one?

    Welcome to the discussions,
yes, if you're using the same account again, iTunes will recognize the old backup after setting up the new ipod and ask you, if you would like to use this backup to restore from.

  • New iPod touch...OLD iMac.

I'm about to order one of the new cool iPod touches with The HD video camera. But I have an old G5 iMac with osx 5.4.11 so it's not compatible.
I plan to use the new iPod to record video on a trip I'm about to go on, so I don't need to sync my music to it. I can use my old iPod for music for now.
My question is will the iPod require me to hook it up to s Mac to first use it? If so, can I just bring it into an apple store and have them activate it there? I have a mobile me account and apple ID.
I do plan to get a new iMac when I come back from my trip next year, I just wanted to be able to use the new iPod for shooting video now.
    Thanks for answering my question.

Also, I have an iPad but not with OSI 4 installed. So will I be able to hook up my née iPod touch which has osi4 to transfer over video clips and pics? Both devices don't have to have the same osi installed right? I don't think so....just wanted to be sure. Thanks again.
