New ipod/same computer

I'm totally ignorant around tech stuff, so please forgive!! My 13 y.o son has destroyed his ipod classic. I am getting him a new one and want to know how to establish the new one with his existing library and itunes store account without having to create a whole new one.
This is possible...right??
Thanks

This is possible...right?
Yes. Just plug it in and sync it.

  • Putting new ipod onto computer that has old ipod softwear already installed

i got a new 30gb video ipod that i haven't installed onto my computer yet, but i do already have a 20gb 4th gen ipod installed on it. i am wondering what i have to do to install the new one...will it erase the songs in my itunes? do i need to uninstall all the things from my old ipod?? please help, and thanks in advance.
    -keely

I have the same setup as keely (loading a new 30gb 5th gen iPod on to a machine that has a 4th gen iPod and iTunes already installed). I updated iTunes, plugged in my new iPod, and it worked great! However, now the old iPod is no longer recognized by iTunes when it is plugged in. This wasn't remedied by using a different USB cable, by restarting the computer, or by changing user accounts. Could this be because of the new iTunes? Or my new iPod? Anybody have an idea? Thanks so much.

  • Why do I even bother??? New iPod; Same Nonsense

Sorry for venting, but I'm so da*n tired of Apple. I finally gave up on older iPod classic as it was unstable for about a year before finally giving up.
I just bought the new iPod Classic 80 gb. Every time I connect it to iTunes, I get a message that says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
So I go through the whole process of restoring it - and it seems to be doing it - only to come up with the same message as above. This has happened at least 10 times.
As background: NO, I haven't otherwise handled the iPod; it's new in the box. YES, I completely wiped the old iTunes off my computer; and downloaded the latest version of it. In other words, it's a clean version of iTunes.
HELP; PLEASE. I'm totally on my last legs with Apple. Their BS about being stable, dependable, etc., is nothing but a bunch of BS marketing cr*p.
    Thanks

  • 30 gb ipod and 1gb nano ipod --same computer???????????

My wife has had a 1gb nano for a year and has itunes installed on our laptop. I just purchased a 30 gb ipod and installed itunes on my own sign on but same computer.. My question is ....is there a way to transfer her songs over to my itunes

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • Multiple iPods, same computer....HELP

I know this question has probably been answered, but I have tried other things and nothing works.
I have Windows XP, and I have my own account on it and my own iPod(4th gen, click wheel) and my sister has her own account and her own mini iPod. Our music is shared in the shared music folder on the computer.
Problem is, how do we use multiple iPods on the same computer. I am having trouble because whenever I/we plug in our iPod to the computer, it does not load to iTunes and instead just shows up as something in the E drive. How can I make it recognize each iPod individually without hassle?
Also, is there a way to not have everyone log out to update my iPod? I get a prompt that says everyone must log out before accessing iTunes. Any help would be great...thanks!

There are basically two methods for managing multiple iPods on one computer. See here:
Method 1 - Create different Windows users accounts for each iPod on this computer.
Method 2 - Create a playlist in iTunes for each iPod.
To make Method 2 work, connect one of your iPods, and click on it in the left-source panel.
Under the "Music" tab, and set your option for a specific playlist(s) under the "Sync Music" option.
Do the same with your other iPod; not connected at the same time as the other one, though.
For more details on this matter, check out Apple's Support article about it:
How to manage multiple iPods using one computer
    I hope that helps you.

  • New iPod/Old Computer

I'm a newbie to all of this...I have a new iPod 80G Video that I can not sync on my old computer. I had a 4g mini that I used and recently upgraded. When I first plugged in the new 80G to my computer iTunes goes through the process of initializing and showing the new iPod under "devices," and it looks like it has all of the music synced but it does not. There is nothing on the new iPod. Is there some process I need to go through to get this to work?

  • Four different IPODS same computer

How do I update my tunes on four ipods (for four different people) on the same computer without losing what is already stored on them.

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and user account.
    b) Creating multiple user accounts and having separate libraries.
    Sharing a Library
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but if you have one it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page:
Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

  • TS1382 have a new iPod classic, did have nano, have an iTunes acct., but when i connect my new iPod to computer it will only transfer music not playlists or music videos ... what am i doing wrong?

Having trouble syncing music videos and playlists to my new iPod classic, already have an iTunes account, have an iPod nano, what am i doing wrong?

You may want to check ur settings. when you plug in ur ipod make sure it is highlighted then at the top of the page you will see tabs Summary Music Podcast Info....click on the MUSIC tab...in that box there will be 2 options:
    Sync Music
         Entire Music Library
Selected playlist, artist, albums, and genres
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CHECKED OFF ENTIRE MUSIC LIBRARY
I hope this works....Let me know

  • Stolen ipod, new ipod, same warranty?

My ipod touch was stolen last week, pretty lame but i've moved on. I'm thinking of buying a new ipod touch from a friend. I have bought warranty for my last ipod, and was wondering if it's possible to transfer that warranty to the new ipod?

    No.
Applecare follows the ipod, not the person.
