New iPod Shuffle doesn't do anything, need help

My girlfriend just gave me a brand new iPod Shuffle. I connected it to the computer, with the latest version of iTunes installed and, besides the yellow light turning on, then blinking twice, well, nothing else happens. Need help. Does the iPod have to be turned on, is there an order in how to connect it to the computer. Please, anyone, help me out.

Have you tried, or are you able to restore the ipod?
I have the exact same problem. Can't restore the shuffle because it doesn't show up in Finder or iTunes.
I have an iPod mini that is working just fine. I have the latest version of everything on a G5. Shuffle is off when I plug it in to computer and I've tried every port on the computer. Are there lemon shuffle 2nd generations out there? I've been giving them as gifts.

  • My brand new Ipod is not working.  I need help!

I cannot get help from Apple, so here goes.
I purchased an Ipod for my daughter from this site for Christmas. We charged it and it seemed to be working, we downloaded the songs from Itunes on it. Then it appeared to have battery or charging issues. Now I can't even get it to turn on. This is getting very frustrating.

To get it to restore you use an application that is installed from the CD that comes with the iPod... can you find this and run it with the iPod connected. If it is able to see the iPod just go for a full restore that should get your iPod back to the beginning and you will have to add the music again. If the software tells you no iPod is connected and you know it is maybe you will have to contact Apple or an Apple Store, as for being helpful I have approached them several times with ailing mac problems both inside and out of warranty and have found them very helpful and keen to resolve issue. I imagine at xmas they face a fairly large influx of calls from a variety of people with differing technical abilities making it harder to resolve issues and taking it longer to get through.. just keep trying, I I also have large format HP printers which are under a support contract with HP and now there is support that is a joke... any time of the year

The girls each have $25 gift certificates to spend on their music at the itunes store, but we can't use any of it.  What do we do???  Help!!!!

  • New ipod shuffle ... New and unreadable on ibook G4

when I plug my new ipod shuffle (2nd gen) version 1.02 on my ibook G4 (OSX 10.4.9) there's a pop-up windows telling me the disk is not readable and they ask me to initialise / ignore or eject the disk. If i choose initialise, the disk utility appear...
If i choose "ignore" and open itunes 7.1.1.5, it tell me that my ipod is corrupted and need to be restore. I have try both the restore utility and itune restore button, and each time it tell me that the restore have been done without problems, but as soon as itunes open, it tell me again that my ipod is corrupted. I have try to use it on my PC, and thereS, no problem on the PC. I can load songs in it and it's working. But if i connect it to my Mac after that, it keep telling me that my ipod is corrupted and need to be restore...
I decided to go back to the store for a refund and I bought a new one from another store. Back home, try to plug that ipod on my iBook... same problem !!!
I'm using a nano and a mini on that same computer without problems, but the ipod shuffle gen 2 simply doesn't work...
    HELP !!!

In the Disk Utility, click on the Shuffle (designated by the orange USB icon next to it) in the left-hand column. Then, click on the erase tab. Choose MS DOS for the file system, uncheck the option to install OS 9 driver if it's selected, and then click erase. Afterwards, try restoring in iPod again.
And yes, you do want the shuffle to be formatted in FAT32 even though you're connecting to a Mac.

  • HT1477 I am trying to install a new iPod Shuffle and my pc does not pick it up.  My pc is running windows 8.1 os.  I do not see that os in the list of operating systems.

I am trying to install a new iPod Shuffle and my pc does not pick it up.
My operating system is Windows 8.1 and windows 8 does not appear
in the list of operating systems.

You are referring to OFFICE 2010, not Windows XP or 7.
And which version of Windows do you have?
NEVER begin before you have a backup, ideally one you have tested and know works.
You don't really install Boot Camp, the Assistant is a partition tool utility.
You may just want Office 2008 for Mac.
If you need Office for Windows, perhaps run Windows in a VM like Parallels or Fusion.
Buy some backup drives and start using TimeMachine for one backup, then weekly backup with SuperDuper.
IF there is now a partition for Windows, all you need is to buy Windows, and I would recommend Windows 7 Home Premium (retail) which is about US$149.
Has nothing to do with free space. Office 2010 isn't to boot from. In fact, you can copy the disc to a folder (1.25GB) and run SETUP from there.

  • Problems with new iPOD shuffle

Just got a new iPOD shuffle, and can't get it to work. i followed all the troubleshooting directions (worked on it for about 2 hours, twice)with the same problems. Updated the software version, restored the settings, no help. I copied all my CD with no problem, and the PC plays them perfectly in iTunes. Have the follwing errors. I think this is just a bad unit:
    1. "Cannot read or write to disk"
    2. "Unit could not be restored. Unknown error occurred" (1418).
    3. "Unit could not be restored. Unknown error occurred".

    Any ideas??

Try to restore it with Apple's restore software:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305204
They recommend using this if itunes cannot restore the ipod.
Another ideas I ran across when solving an error (Windows cannot load installer for volume. Contact your hardware vendor) I was getting, in case the above didn't work:
When you plug the device in have my computer open. When you see the device (F:?) right click on it and do a quick format. That apparently cleared up a lot of user's problems.
If itunes opens before you do this it won't work or will disappear from my computer.
If this doesn't work, did you get any error warnings when you plugged it in that could be causing it?

  • New iPod shuffle won't stay on, charge, and not recognized by computer

My daughter won a new iPod Shuffle that as far as we know has never been opened/used till today.  We have iTunes downloaded and working on our computer.  But when plugging in iPod via provided USB cable, the computer (and I've tried two different ones) will not recognize anything is plugged in.  Also, I don't even think the iPod is working at all.  The amber light only comes on for one second when turned on/plugged in, then goes off.  I know the USB ports I've tried to use it with are adequate (i.e. fast/powerful enough) because they are the main USB ports of the computers (no hubs or dual ports) and they work with other Apple products just fine (including other iPods), so that can't be the problem.  Help?!  She's so disappointed.

I have exactly the same problem with both my ipod shuffles. That suggests to me that it is a problem with the ipods rather than my PC or computer software. I'm surprised that no Apple tech has suggested a solution yet.

  • Trouble with new iPod Shuffle

I just replaced my old iPod shuffle with a brand new iPod Shuffle.   When I try to sync with iTunes it says I need to upgrade to iTunes 10.0 or later but when I try to upgrade iTunes it tells me I need Mac OS X 10.5 or later. I just want my iPod to work... Any ideas?

  • Loading new Ipod shuffle onto Itunes account

Okay, I have an Itunes account already and it is connected to my old ipod mini. I recently got an Ipod shuffle and when I try to load songs onto it the ipod shuffle won't recognize them because they are protected on my itunes account. I tried to change my account so it recognized my new ipod shuffle and itunes said I was not authorized to do that. Any suggestions?

You can load any number of iPod devices with one iTunes library and account. So that's not the problem.
Are you sure your shuffle is charged? Did you try plugging it into a different USB jack? When you look in "My Computer" is your shuffle recognized? Does iTunes see your shuffle and list it as a device when it's plugged in?
Does your shuffle need a software update? OR, can you restore your shuffle? Go to the settings tab and click on the "Restore" tab.
Are you trying to use autofill for your shuffle? Perhaps, to get started, you should turn off autofill and make a playlist. I have found that it is easier to make a playlist of all of the music I want to add to my shuffle. Then I pull this playlist on top of my shuffle and it is updated.
Your shuffle should play your purchased music with no problems!

I can't get Window's Media Player to "recognize" my new ipod shuffle.  Does anyone have a solution?  When I pull the ipod shuffle up in Devices and Printers, it says it needs Troubleshooting, but the Troubleshooting provides no solution.

Windows Media Player?  As far as I know, that won't work.  You need to install iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
That will install the software you need to use your shuffle with your computer.

  • What is the new iPod shuffle slate like

Hi, just wondering what the new iPod shuffle
Is like the black slate one..?

Nothing silly about it if you want it, and if it suits your purposes or uses.  Your choice really - the only one you need satisfy or justify the extra purchase to is yourself.
I've had iPhones for years, but I also have my old iPod Nano - lives stuck in the docking slot of my Sony mini-stereo most of the time.  On long driving trips I'll take it to plug into the car's AUX port instead of the iPhone as I can leave it plugged in the whole trip, even when I stop and take the iPhone with me.

  • Anyone with a new iPod Shuffle that works with Powerbook G4 OSX 10.3.9 ???

I just bought the new iPod Shuffle also and my Mac OSX 10.3.9 operating system is not recognizing the iPod. This is a big issue since they are supposed to be compatible.
I called AppleCare 2 times and spent 1hr+ at the Apple Store Genious Bar. Here's the deal ... basically the new iPod Shuffle is NOT compatible with 10.3.9 ... I would guess you are having the same issue. My iPod Shuffle works fine with Tiger OS. The Genious Bar tested my computer with Tiger OS to make sure it wasn't a hardware issue and the iPod Shuffle worked fine ... but not with 10.3.9. This is definately an operating system compatibility issue.
Let me know if anyone has the same issue or better yet ... if you iPod works with Powerbook G4 OSX 10.3.9.
    TS

I too purchased a new Shuffle and could not get it to work with any software on my PowerBook G4 running the latest Panther (10.3.9). (Only the Disk Utility could see the Shuffle.) I also tried it on my PowerMac G5 running the latest Panther Server, and my PowerMac G4 running the latest Tiger. Given that multiple hardware AND OS configurations were failing, I had to conclude that it was some errant software I had installed on all 3 machines. (As an additional indicator, NONE of my machines would play DVDs anymore: inserting a DVD produced the dreaded "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read.")
The culprit turned out to be the kernel extensions installed by my (older) Lexar Secure jump drive. These files are in directory /System/Library/Extensions.
    IOLexarEncryptFilter.kext
    IOSCSILexarCommandsDevice.kext
    LexarFilterScheme.kext
I do not know if it is just one of them or all 3, but I moved all of these files out of the Extensions directory and rebooted. Presto: the DVDs play and the new Shuffle can be seen by iTunes, etc.
Note that I do not necessarily recommend messing about in the the kernel extensions directory. If anyone has a better method for removing these extensions (I couldn't find anything on the Lexar support site), then I would be grateful for your input.

  • Bought a new iPod shuffle

    Hi there,
I purchased a new iPod shuffle yesterday, however when i try connecting it to my iMac to download from iTunes it doesn't appear to recognise the shuffle.
iMac is only a few weeks old and is updated on all the software. Please help?

Make sure the plug on the USB cable is fully inserted into the shuffle's headphones jack.  You should feel a "click" when it is seated.
Connect it to a direct USB port on the iMac, at least for now.
Run iTunes.  The latest iTunes may hide the sidebar.  To show the sidebar, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  With the sidebar visible, does the shuffle appear in the sidebar, under DEVICES?

  • New ipod shuffle problems..

I recently recieved a brand new ipod shuffle (first generation) from school. I went through the steps to install the software, then plug in the ipod. I have tried it in both USB ports on my PC but itunes still will not recognize it. The amber light is blinking, which means it's being recognized as a disk. When I first plug it in my Kodak Easyshare Software pops up as if my digital camera has been connected.
I have tried the "5 R's" to no avail.
    Why isn't this shuffle working?

    Hi Guillermo,
In thinking about your problem, I am wondering if the issue is one of permissions.
Is the account on the old iMac that you use to synch-up both iPod shuffles the same account name and uid as you use to synch the iPod shuffles on the new eMac?
Check and compare a typical AAC file on the old and new machines (ie. one that transfers OK and one that doesn't play at all). Select the file and hit Command-I to get the info window popup on each machine. Select "Ownership and Permissions" in the info window. Compare the owner and the group names listed.
Then, bring up NetInfo in /Applications/Utilities on each machine and select "Users" in the middle window. That will show a list of Users on the given machine. On each machine, select the User indicated in the info window and compare the value in the UID line. Even though you may have created a User with the same name on each machine, the order you created them in will determine their UID value. So you could have "guillermo" on each machine, but with different UIDs. Since what matters on OSX and UNIX is the value of UID, if the UIDs are different, the accounts are considered different.
Post back what you find. We can use the info window to change permissions to existing files, and can write-up an Applescript code to fix the permissions in the files you transfer in the future, if (as it sounds) this is a process you do regularly.
Sorry I don't speak, or write, in Spanish. I certainly recognize the added difficulty in solving this iPod problem that tranlating English into Spanish presents.
