New iPod system vers. 1.2: Now my iPod isn't being recognized

So I just bought last week's episode of 'The Office' through iTunes. Of course, in order to do so, I had to download the new iTunes 7.0.
So when I connect my iPod and try to transfer 'The Office' to my iPod, I'm told I need to download and install the new iPod 1.2, which I do.
Problem: when I ran the installer, I got this 'meter' in the middle of my screen, which said 'Updating iPod.' It ran for 3 minutes...5 minutes...10 minutes. I let it run for like 20 minutes, and it never went away. So I had to close iTunes by using my Windows Task Manager.
Now, when I hook up my iPod, iTunes opens, but my iPOd is nowhere to be found in my menu on the left-hand side.
Any suggestions/ideas?

i had problems like that, the hardest part is getting your computer to recognize the ipod again. if you can get it to recognize it as a hard drive though use windows to do a quick format to erase it. after that just plug it in and start over. then you can reinstall whatever software version you want. *when trying to get the computer to recognize it as a hard drive have itunes closed

  • My new iPod isn't being recognized by my computer

Here's my issue: the iPod is brand spankin' new; it was a graduation gift from my uncle, and since we finally got an operating system that's compatible with the software, I installed it all in yesterday. It posed no problems, so I downloaded music onto it and let it charge until this morning. When I took it off, it gave me the 'folder with exclamation point' icon, so I went to Apple's support site and it told me to download updater 2006-06-28. I was hesitant, so I tried everything else before I finally downloaded it.
Now, iTunes doesn't recognize it, the computer doesn't recognize it, and not even the freakin' updater recognizes it. Not to mention, of course, that all my music and settings have been completely erased from it and continue to be erased everytime I take it off in order to try something new.
Is there anything I can possibly do?

  • New Ipod Nano not being recognized by Computer

It seems I am not the only one having this annoying issue. My new Ipod Nano (3rd Generation) will not show up at all in Itunes. I never get the setup assistant to show up either. I have tried different USB ports, shutting down and restarting the computer, reloading itunes, etc. What's next? I am new to the whole ipod thing so if I need to do something I don't know about, please let me know.

    Hi
You're right, you're not the only person having this problem. If you don't mind though, could you just stick to bumping the other thread? I'll get you the link, one second.

  • My iPod isn't being recognized by the computer.

I've had my classic since this past christmas (it's the new 120g), and last week, everything got wiped off of my iPod. I'm not sure what happened exactly. I restored it on my computer, and re-synced it. Ever since then, my iPod has been showing the big red X at least once a day. Sometimes I can restart it a couple of times, and it will be fine. Today it happened, and no matter how many times I reset it, it still shows the X. I have it plugged into my computer, but the computer doesn't recognize it. It doesn't show up on My Computer or iTunes or anything. I have no idea how to restore it or what do now. I've tried using the "contact the experts" thing online, but when I plug in the serial number for a classic (8M8398FV2C5), it tells me that the number is invalid. That's the number on the back of my iPod and when I plug that number in the search bar, it comes up with a classic.
Please help me, my iPod is my baby.

    Did you try everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    or
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    Next try another computer.

  • Ipod isn't being recognized by my computer

My ipod has the icon that shows that it needs to be connected to itunes to be synchronized but once i connect it to the computer it won't recognize it. One of the reasons im thinking is because, i connected it to a new computer not the one i had originaly downloaded too. If this is the cause what can i do to install it to my new computer? All my USB ports are correct (I connected it to each one) and the wire is fine but i dont understand why it won't recognize it.
    Pleas respond ASAP
    Thank you

  • Ipod isn't being recognized by my pc or itunes.

For some reason (probobly something stupid I did) my ipod is telling me to connect to itunes to restore, however when i connect my ipod to my computer itunes doesn't say it has connected and my pc says that it isn't connected in any of the usb ports. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and resetting my ipod, but my pc/itunes says that the ipod is not connected. The ipod however says it is and still charges and comes up with a white do not disconnect screen.

There are too many plausible suggestions, refer to this Apple Support Article on
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
But do the Disk Diagnostic first, as posted by tt2, it will help us in troubleshooting.
    Have a nice day!

  • TS1368 My iTunes account was hacked and charges were made from some other computer. Now my computer isn't being recognized and I need to enter security answers I never provided answers for and cannot access my account to make a purchase. I need help!

My iTunes account was hacked and fraudulant charges were made. Now when I try to go into my account from my personal computer, it states that "this is the first time using this computer, please enter answers for security questions," I never answered any security questions and cannot change or edit that because it tells me I'm entering the wrong info. How do I get a live person to help me through this so I can return to making purchases on my own account?

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • My ipod isn't being recognized in itunes and not in my computer

when i plug my 2nd generation ipod up it won't go to itunes and it wont even register in the computer. But when i plug up the 30 gig ipod it goes directly to itunes and it shows up in the address bar. I ran the diagnostic and it showed that the 2nd generation was the secondary and not the primary ipod on the computer. I wonder if that has anything to do with that at all? I have no idea I've been checking for months i need some help.

"I ran the diagnostic and it showed that the 2nd generation was the secondary and not the primary ipod on the computer."
    What diagnostics?
If you are connecting both iPods at the same time this will cause problems. Disconnect the 30GB while syncing the Nano.

  • 10.7 update and now my iphones/ipod is not being recognized.

10.7 update and now my iphones/ipod is not being recognized in windows 7 service pack 1. I have 2 iphones and an ipod 3G. I have to go into services and stop the apple mobile device and start it up again to get my devices recognized. Anyone else having the same issue? One of the iphones is not upgraded to the new iOS, the other phone and the ipod are updated.

    Hi,
You probably need to update to Snow Leopard10.6.8
Click Apple icon top left and click Software Update and keep doing that until it says software is up to date.
That should bring your itunes to the correct version.
    Hope this helps,
    Alan

I would think, Twins1995, that if we are having the problem, others are as well. Hopefully, Apple will shortly issue a follow-up software release to fix the problem. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part.
It would be helpful, if there were some kind of work-around in the interim, so we can use our devices. Pretty frustrating when you consider that all of the hardware and software is produced by Apple.
