New ipod touch won't connect, shows itunes and usb icons

My son just got a new ipod touch for his birthday. I have the latest version of itunes, and I have spent hours scouring the internet looking for a solution. Whether the thing is plugged into the computer or not, all it will do is show the usb cable icon and the itunes icon. When I plug it into the computer, my computer makes the noise that indicates that a device has plugged in, the ipod beeps one beep, and I get an error message from itunes that says that a rented movie from the ipod cannot be imported into itunes. Other than that, the computer, including itunes, doesn't acknowledge the existence of the ipod, not in the device manager, in itunes, in the itunes diagnostics tests, or anywhere else. In addition, the battery won't charge.
Also, I noticed that I do not have anything called "Apple Mobile Device Service," although I do have something called "Bonjour service." Are these the same thing or could this be the problem. Please HELP!

  • Brand new iPod touch won't connect with iTunes

    Hi,
I have just been given an iPod Touch (32 gb) and am trying to get it to work.
I started by down loading a new copy of iTunes (there was an old version on my computer) and installing it. I plugged in the iPod and for a few seconds it displayed the apple logo. Then a symbol showing a usb cable with an arrow pointing to a iTunes logo appeared. The computer detects the iPod, but iTunes doesn't. I have not been able to progress past this screen. Initally, I thought that it might not have charged, so I left it plugged in for a few hours. I contacted Apple, and on their instructions, I've tried turning it off and doing a restore. I've also removed iTunes and then reinstalled it. I've tested my setup on an old iPod (iTunes detects it fine) and another iPod Touch (iTunes doesn't detect it). When the iPod Touch is connected to a Mac, it works fine.
My computer uses Windows XP and is about six years old.
Does anybody have an idea for something else I can try? Thank you in advance.

Try removing your Security Software(nortons,Zone alarm,Mcaffe etc)or at least turning it off and reboot, then delete the driver installed for your i-pod and reinstall the driver, then reinstall your Security System.Hope that helps it worked for me!!!!

  • My ipod touch won't connect to itunes and its says "unknown device."

My ipod touch is doing what I said already but its doing alot of other things too.. I noticed earlier today that it would bounce back and forth between the old formats of ipod touches when it is the newest generation out and it would go back to the original format. Now it won't even turn on or light up to show the lock screen like it done earlier when it had the brightness off completely and only be seen in a certain spot in external light of my surroundings. When I got home to plug it in, I was going to restart it and wipe it clean but then all of the sudden it wouldn't be read on ITunes or even my computer that would repeat "uknown device." over and over again every time I try to plug it in. I done this to my laptop and PC but I would get the same result every time.
What on earth should I do?? I already done troubleshooting and it didn't do anything at all but only did a small glimce of hope of showing up when i turned off the computer and back on. Shortly after that it would go back to being unreadable. I tried turning it on when I plugged it in too but it still wouldn't do anything but stay black.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! I don't know if I should go to an Apple to to fix it or do any other home methods.

  • Ipod Touch won't connect to Itunes, and is stuck on the connect to Itunes screen, can't do anything on it.

    Hey,
I bought my Ipod about 6 weeks ago, and after lending it to a friend to put some software on it, it's stuck at the screen with a usb cable then an arrow pointing to the Itunes logo, and when I connect it, Itunes doesn't pick it up, I'm sure it needs restoring, but I can't as Itunes doesn't pick it up. I've re-installed Itunes but still nothing.
Help would be greatly appreciated as I'm going to a deserted mountain in Ireland for a week in a couple of days, and will need it ! (:

Ok I yhink the different computer thing is working, I connected it to my mums and it's restoring, though I think her version of Itunes is quite old, and it's saying it's an Iphone, but it is restoring so far.  Thanks!

  • New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3 says it needs 11.1 but I cannot load that on my macbook using OSX 10.5.8 any way around this?

New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3, says it needs 11.1 or newer but I cannot load that onto my MacBook running on OSX 10.5.8 - is there anyway around this?

No. If your MacBook has an Intel processor you can update to OSX 10.6.8 and then install the latest iTunes.
A 5G iPod with iOS 7 requires that if you have a Mac you have OSX 10.6.8 or later.
    You can get 10.6.8 here:

I can't put anything new onto it and I can't take anything old off of it! This just happened recently as well, as it was working fine up until a couple months or so ago. What can I do?

  • New iPod Touch won't sync with iTunes as iTunes hangs

    Hello,
I got a new iPod Touch yesterday after my old iPod Video died. Brought it home, connected it and all seemed fine until iTunes (that had worked flawlessly for years) just stopped (app stops responding).
I can kill the app and restart and it just starts over again, but never gets all the way thru sync.
I looked for a newer version but says I've got the latest.
Any suggestions? Don't suppose I can sync via WiFi?
    thanks,
    Chris

Hey Chris, I got this off iPhonenano.net
Occasionally your iPhone or iPod touch starts syncing when you connected it to your Mac only to drop out of the sync process. Even worse, once the cycle stops, it continues every time you plug your handheld in. This fix is fairly easy, but you won't find it in iTunes. You'll know know if you are suffering from this little headache because your iPhone or iPod touch will begin the sync process, but stops unexpectedly. iTunes will display a dialog warning you that your handheld stopped communicating and the sync process was cancelled. Here's how to break the cycle so and sync as normal again:
Connect your iPhone or iPod touch to your Mac/Pc
After the sync process fails, launch iSync. You can find it in your Applications folder.
    Select iSync > Preferences.
Click the Reset Sync History button.
iSync will display a dialog explaining what happens when you reset the sync history. Go ahead and click the second Reset Sync History button.
    Quit iSync.
Now you should be able to sync your iPhone or iPod touch again without any hassles. Since your sync history has been reset, your first post-rest sync may take longer than you expect. Depending on how much information is stored on your handheld, that could be a few extra seconds or several minutes.
    Hope this helps,
    Arnie

  • My Ipod touch won't connect to iTunes/Computer!

This problem has being going on for a month or so now! Firstly, iTunes kept freezing whenever I connected my iPod to my computer which became quite annoying. And recently it's just stopped connecting altogether, no beeping noise, no charging, no usb driver listed, no freezing- nothing. However, whenever I turn my iPod off and connect it, my iPod turns on? I've tried reinstalling iTunes many times, as well as all the other software but nothing seems to work. I've also tried reinstalling the usb driver, which did eventually work but then caused my iTunes to freeze. I then disconnected my iPod to find that it wouldn't connect again, and the usb doesn't show up still. My computer is running on Windows Vista, and my iPod is an iPod touch 4th gen. Can anyone help me!? I really don't want to reset my iPod as I'd loose everything on it and I've owned it for quite a few years

  • New Ipod touch can't connect to itunes due admin restrictions.

I just got a new Ipod touch. Where I'm located i'm unable to connect to the iTunes store since it is blocked. Is there any otherway to activate my iPod. I'm unable to go any other place in which I would be able to connect to the store. It's going to be like this for quite some time.

If the iPod came with iOS 5 you can activae/set it up via wif.  From the Users Guide:
    Setting up iPod touch
To set up and activate iPod touch, just turn it on and follow the onscreen instructions that step
you through the setup process, including:
    Connecting to a Wi-Fi network
    Â
Signing in with or creating a free Apple ID
    Â
    Setting up iCloud
    Â
Turning on recommended features such as Location Services and Find My iPod
    Â
    Activating iPod touch
    Â
If not iOS 5 you ned to connect it to a computer with internet access and iTunes.

  • IPod touch won't connect to iTunes after update

I updated my iPod touch but now it won't connect to iTunes, all I get is the connect to iTunes screen. I followed all the directions for the Apple support including shuting down my iPod, uninstalling all Apple programs from my computer, restarting my computer and reinstalling iTunes, as well as "using Msconfig to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows 7," but nothing has worked. Is there anything else I can do?

This is a step they should make MUCH easier to find for Ipod users. Here's the link: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538?viewlocale=en_US
I don't know how directive the link is, but the short and easy of it is this:
    1. Go to your device manager
    2. Click 'View' and select Devices By Connection
    3. Make sure ACPI x64 (or 32) - based PC is expanded (Windows 7 users)
    4. Scroll down until you see 'USB Composite Device'
       - you should see Apple Mobile Device (recovery mode) in there or something similar
    5. Right click the composite device and choose Update Driver Software
    6. DO NOT automatically install software; choose 'browse my computer' instead
    7. Choose to pick from a list of devices on your pc
    8. Click "Have Disk" and browse your computer to this address:
         C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    9. Double click the usbaapl.inf file (it may have 64 next to it)
    10. Click OK and continue the install process, including the 'Restore step when iTunes opens...AND THAT'S IT!!
Your iTunes will take all the appropriate steps (5-10 minutes) to restore your iPod. If I missed anything let me know. Otherwise, pass this on to your friends as Apple has made it inherently difficult to hunt down. Good luck!!

  • New iPod Touch needs to connect to itunes?

    Hi
I just bought a new ipod touch and it didn't work out of the box. I had to connect it to itunes to register it (or something). Is this correct? The store assistant says all new ipods need this, but the Apple help desk person says it should work out of the box. Any comments appreciated.
I can't find anything on this via Search.
    Thanks.

No, you have to set it up and configure it with iTunes before gaining full functionality of the iPod.

  • My new iPhone 5 won't connect to iTunes, and when I connect to my computer it comes up as a usb storage device, also in the phone itself under usage it shows internal memory of 2gb and sd card 64 gb, is this an original iPhone or have I been sold a copy

My new iphone 5 can not connect to itunes, it comes up as a usb storage device when I plug it in, also in the phone under settings/usage it shows internal memory of 2gb and SD card of 64gb, I cannot get it to connect to itunes at all so cannot sync etc, is this a genuine Iphone or a copy. I have owned 4 iphones and never had a problem with connecting to iphones and restoreing to a backup.

    According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_5
the iPhone5 has 1GB of RAM, and internal storage of 16, 32, or 64GB.
It does not use SD cards.
Fake iphones are really Android phones using the skin of iOS6.
Click on the App Store icon. If it takes you to Apple's App Store, then it's a real iPhone.
But if you are directed to Google Play, then I'm afraid you've gotten a copy.
