New Ipod user...confused!!

Hi I have just entered the world of iPods and downloaded a movie for my daughter's iPod (Ice Age 3 ) but when I try to play it is blank and when I try to sync it to the iPod it states that my computer is not authorised so I go through the authorisation step and that states I am already authorised...Please advise , Thanks.

Did you purchase and downloaded the movie from iTunes? If so, read iTunes Store - Downloading FAQ, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for purchased movies and iPod nano (5th generation) - User Guide.
Call Apple iPod tech support if you need further assistance while your 90 days of free phone support is still in effect.

• Don't laugh, but please help this new ipod user

ok. I am very computer illiterate and a new ipod user. It seems I cannot figure out how to "send" my 5th generation/video ipod MUSIC LIBRARY to the I-tunes library on my second computer ( i tried to make a playlist but it won't allow). I have downloaded all software from the ipod into both computers, but I cannot seem to get my ipod library onto my ibookG4 itunes library. Make sense? When you all are done laughing at this newbie, it would be great if someone could explain how I do this? It seems there should be a way to save my ipod onto this laptop? thank you very much

Well don't laugh too hard because I Had the same problem but with a Windows
technically its illegal to do that but there is a legitimate way to get around it
What you have to do is enable disk mode on your fifth generation iPod
and it acts as a huge storage device
Then Just copy all the music files into the disk mode
and take them off on your laptop
Just Make sure you don't sync or restore your iPod

• New IPOD user with a question

Hi, I'm a new IPod/ITunes user, and I have a question that I can't find an answer to on any of the Help categories, so I thought I'd try here. Hope you all can help me out.
I love most pop, rock, and country music genres and sub-genres, but I'm also one of those mixed-up souls that love classical music as well (and gosh am I glad of it). But I don't want to mix my classical music in with "all other" on the same IPod. There's a number of reasons for this that I don't need to go into, but that presents my question.
I would like to have two IPods, one for classical and one for "all other". Can I have two different IPods on the same ITunes account so that I can connect and sync one type of music to one of them, and then connect and sync the other type of music to the second one? If not, then what are my options?
I hope this isn't a seriously dumb question, but I have no idea what I'm doing with this stuff, so I'm begging indulgence, and hoping some of you out there can help me out.
Thanks so much!

I use method two from How to use multiple iPods with one computer with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which iPods should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
etc.
I currently manage our family's four iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

• New Nike+ user - Confused with Calibration?

I am a new user, and so far, have been impressed with my new running toy, but I am somewhat confused about calibrating the device. Wanting the sensor to be as accurate as possible, I have been reading countless discussions on different forums about the best way to calibrate, only to be left even more perplexed by the difference in opinions.
I use the gym regularly - manily the treadmill and calibrated my nike+ sensor using this, as I had no access to a Athletics Track. The calibration was successful, and seemed to be accurate compared to the treadmill stats. Now I have read that if you calibrate the sendsor on a treadmill, it will not be accurate when running outside?? I plan to start running outside, as the weather is improving, and want it to be accurate - does anyone have a suggestion to how to callibrate without using a track? I live in oxford and cant find any free running tracks to use so am a bit stuck..... please help!

Well I'm from Oxford too! and I used the Horspath Track. They are pretty cool about people using it for free and the caretaker even said he didn't mind me hopping the fence if I wanted to use it in the evening when it was closed...
The main thing is that people tend to run differently outside as oppose to the treadmill. The stride length makes a big difference for me,

• New iPod user - not happy 4.2 restore ****

I was lucky enough to get a free 8GB iPod Touch from a bank after setting up an account with them. I got it today, plugged it into my computer, installed iTunes, and it set it up. It hung up when trying to copy a sample song to it....
After that, it worked, I could even surf the web on it. Then I made the mistake of doing the update to 4.2. It went through the entire process and at the very end, the screen goes black and an error pops up saying that it could not complete the operation (error 9).
Now, whenever I plug in the iPod I get the following error:
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
I click on OK then click on 'Restore'.
It asks if I'm sure. I click on yes.
A progress bar for "Extracting Software" completes.
I get the following messages and checkered progress bar on iTunes:
"Verifying iPod Restore and settings with Apple"
"Waiting for iPod"
I hear my USB device disconnect and connect.
apple logo with progress bar on iPod
The following checkered progress bars show up in iTunes:
"Preparing iPod Software for Restore"
"Restoring iPod software ..."
"Verifying iPod software"
"Verifying iPod restore"
The progress bar on iTunes gets to maybe 90%, on the iPod 95%. The iPod goes black and I then get this message on iTunes:
"The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (9)."
I figured out I have a 4th generation iPod due to the A1367 model engraving along with the front facing camera. I have a Gateway Laptop with a downgrade of Windows XP Pro plugged in.
I thought Apple was supposed to be more user friendly. Please talk me off the ledge. Could it be my anti-virus software? I know the USB doesn't time out. I don't think it would be a port issue since it gets all the way to the end and iTunes was able to download a video and the updates. I've spent several hours fighting this and am extremely frustrated. This may very well be my first and last Apple product.
Any help will be much much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I know the feeling as I made the same mistake of upgrading my Touch 3 to 4.2.2 and have the error code 3014. Have tried everything listed on apple's help site several times.
It's going in the drawer and my classic 60 is coming out again!
very frustrating!

• New ipod User 60GB

Hello fellow ipodians!
I just purchased a black 5th Gen 60gb ipod with video a few days ago. I love it so far. Nice piece of equipment. I've been experimenting with the whole itunes transfer to the ipod, transferring a few videos I had in my vid library on my computer (having to convert them first by right clicking once they were added to itunes...) no problem playing them after that on the ipod. I've also been reading a lot of the postings on here about peoples issues, problems, likes and dislikes of these super cool gadgets. I'm almost starting to second geuss myself about this purchase of the ipod because it sounds like everyone has been encountering plenty of problems with these things from videos to software updates to the click wheel etc... I was hoping someone could answer my question for me...
Has anyone bought one of these and had it working fine with no problems at all?? And truly loved owning it?? Is there something I should know about these things and watch for that might go wrong... and avoid any potential disasters before they happen??
Anyway... I love it so far and was just curious about the people who have had no problems at all...
Happy tunes!
Windows ME
Windows XP

Has anyone bought one of these and had it working
fine with no problems at all??
No problems at all. I used the slip case it came with and it's still in factory condition.
And truly loved owning it??
It works like it should, but I'm not completely in love with it. Although it is very clear and detailed, I find it too flat and lifeless, like a bright, clean room with no atmosphere.
Is there something I should know about
these things and watch for that might go wrong... and
avoid any potential disasters before they happen??
Yes. Don't spend too much time reading the posts here. They represent a micro-fraction of iPod owners. I also suspect they contain many troll postings by teenage boys who can't get girlfriends and want to stir up trouble.
Just be sensible, realise that iPods are highly glossy luxury goods, and enjoy it.

• New Ipod user, please help

Hello everyone, i recently got a 30gb ipod video and i am really enjoying it. although the video portion is kind of odd. Podcasts are no problem, but when it comes to dvd's or just movies stored on my computer there seems to be a lot to choose from. I am running a windows machine but i am not sure as to what to use, sorry about the post(i know there is a lot). but i am looking for a good program to convert dvd's for use on my ipod. I dont know what to trust on here. Could someone please help me with what they use for windows. any help is appreciated, thanks

I have a windows system as well. I use two programs that work quite well and are free. First to get them (dvd's) on my computer I use decrypter. It works great, then I convert it with streamclip. It is a very good program that has worked well for me. I have converted a ton of dvd's and it has worked well. You can get it here http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-win.html
Like I said it is free.
There are a lot of great programs out there and most work well.
I will leave you with one bit of advice, there is a Spammer that goes under several different names and is pushing a program called cucosoft. I would not use it just because the person goes under like 8 different names pushing this program. It is not free and he must be in the envolved with the company in some way shape or form. Right now he uses cindyzz or meggicc or collins... any many other names... so beware

• New iPod user - Frustration with Connection to PC

I finally jumped on this bandwagon and bought an iPod 30GB with video, etc. But am having a couple issues. Any help is appreciated.
I installed the latest iTunes software from the Apple site, ripped a few of my CD's, and had them transferred to my iPod. Not as easy as I was expecting, but did it nevertheless.
Now I realize when I go to reboot my PC, it hangs forever when my iPod is connected. Also, When I am in Windows, iTunes at top says "updating iPod, do not disconnect" then after a bit it says "iPod update complete, it is safe to disconnect your iPod". But on my iPod it still says "do not disconnect".
What is up with that?
Also, the only way I found to update my iPod is to right click on my iPod icon in iTunes and ask it to update the iPod with the latest music. Isn't there a simpler one-click button to do this?
To be honest, so far I have not been too pleased with this "simplified inteface" that everyone is raving about. It seems more complicated to manipulate than I had expected.

I feel you, I recently got on the bandwagon, but after a while you get used to it, and it is a really good product. First of all, your iPod can automatically update without right clicking
and hitting update. Make sure your iPod is connected and is showing up in iTunes. Then click Edit, Preferences, then select iPod. You can select auto-update options from there. You can also mess with iPod settings.
If iTunes says the update is complete, you can disconnect your iPod whether or not it says it's complete. I've done it before, there's nothing to worry about. Let me know if you need more help

• New IPod user need help

i just got a 4GB ipod nano for christmas. it say i have a 1000 songs but i only have 209 and now it won't let put anymore on it, its say its full. when i first loaded i tunes on my computer its asks if i want to make it my default player do i? what does that mean? also i took songs off my media player yahoo musicplayer is what what made it so full? is there anyway to change the file size or something or do i just have restore and start all over? someone please help me.

Bear in mind that Apple quotes the number of songs you are able to store on any iPod by using the AAC format at a bitrate setting of 128kbps and for a 4 minute song.
Look in iTunes under edit/preferences/advanced/importing. What does it say in settings and import using? You may have the import settings and bitrate set wrong. You need to compress your music using either mp3 or aac.
See these.

• New iPad user; confused after apple ID change of password and email address. New details NOT recognised by iCloud and actual iPad? Help! Thank you

I'm new to my iPad & Apple!
I have updated/ changed details within my Apple ID; email, contact details and changed password.
This has worked & recognised when using updated password for use with Apple's web site (e.g. Able to login to this site) & all other apps with the EXCEPTION of iCloud and also my actual iPad ("internal/own" software/OS I would presume?!).
Shortly after turning my iPad on, the Apple ID request pops up showing my old email address. I have tried entering old & new passwords which both fail. I now cancel this request and continue ok.
This also happens with iCloud: as just mentioned, the request for Apple ID comes up with old email address and neither old or new passwords are accepted (& therefore I can not back-up to iCloud).
Can anyone help please?
With anticipated appreciation and thanks,
NJohnR
(Maybe I should mention that while I live in the UK; Scotland, I am currently on holiday in France while I have made further changes to my ID password, though was at home when made initial changes).

I have resolved this problem!
I try &change my email details within my iPad's iCloud settings. Though the primary (old) email could not be changed.
So I took advice from further searches here & on the iCloud site & went ahead and deleted my iCloud account. Success! Immediately after deleting the account I had a request to open & login to a new iCloud account with my new Apple ID login details already there (showing my new email address & requesting my password- all which worked fine). Also I have not lost any files.
I hope that this may help someone else in the future.
Happy Appleing all
