New IPOD w/Existing ITUNES, CAN'T download 7.4 & NO SETUP ASSISTANT?

Ok. I have two ipods. Now Three... My One IPOD has been updated with new version 7.4, my other one-(shuffle) was updated with 7.4....but..
I just got the new IPOD and when I connect it to my computer, it does not send me through the Setup Assistant....just tells me that I need a newer version of 7.4 to use the IPOD.
The problem comes when it directs me to the 'Download 7.4 version'...I hit the control key and says "thank you for downloading itunes"..
THe issue is that I already have iTunes and it asks me if I want to replace my existing itunes setup?
I say ok,and save it and nothing....Same screen and no prompts...
With my other two ipods, as soon as I have plugged into my computer; it recognizes it as a new ipod and takes me through to register and stuff....I can't download new version....so I am now in a rutt......
Can anyone help me to understand how I download the new version 7.4 into the new IPOD, so I can get started on the Setup Assistant?
What am I missing here???
Thanks..

OK. Now trying to figure out what you are saying here. It sounds to me like you are only downloading iTunes 7.4 to wherever it is your default location is for downloading and not actually installing it.
From what you are saying above it sounds as if you are only repeatedly downloading it and Windows is asking you if you want to overwrite the file it had previously downloaded and saved.
After you download the file does it give you an option to open or run the file? If so you need to do that. If not you need to find where the file is being saved to (save it to your desktop if your not sure where it is going by default) and double click it to start the install procedure.
The tips here may be useful http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
But honestly it sounds to me as though you didn't actually install it.
As far as the latter part of the question goes. iTunes does not actually get installed to the new iPod. The new iPod Nano does, however, require iTunes 7.4 to be installed.

  • Upgrade issues - new ipod with existing itunes

My previous 20GB ipod died and I have bought a 5th generation 30GB. When I try to install the new software using the disc provided in the box, I get the following dialogue box:
"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel."
If I do this, will it erase all of my songs on the pc? I have Windows XP. If so, can anyone tell me how to update the software for the new ipod without losing my current personal library of songs?

    Hi Jjonty,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You shouldn't have to download more software (iTunes)
since you already had an iPod. Did you upgrade your
iTunes to the latest version? You
should be able to just hook your iPod up to your
computer and have it work. I am a Mac user so I am
not positive how your PC works with the iPod.

Excellent. Thank you. Seems to be working beuatifully on downloading the whole catalogue. Great news as I have been going through iPod commuting withdrawal.
Thanks for taking the time to answer. I appreciate it.

  • Synching new iPod with existing iTunes

Hi, my old iPod mini was replaced by apple within warranty for a defect. How do I load all my songs that are currently on my iTunes onto the new iPod mini. It's an iPod Mini 6GIG and I'm using iTunes 4.7.1.30 software.
    Thanks

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
    Still no joy, see these.

  • Where can I download Airport Express (11g) Setup Assistant for Windows 7?

My AEx (11g) has stopped connecting.
On my PC, the AEx Setup Assistant  and Utility have disappeared - I need to download these for this old 11g AEx.
I run Optus cable <-> Optus modem <-> Linksys wireless modem <-> Windows 7 PC.
I use AEx to play iTunes music on a remote system.
thank you in advance for any help

This is what appears for me when I click the link above in my post.
It works fine on 3 wireless devices that I just tested. You might want to restart your computer, or maybe check the Firewall settings on the PC.  If you are using Microsoft Security Essentials, it may be blocking the connection.
Not sure what else to suggest. Maybe try the raw address:   http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1547

  • New ipod on Existing iTunes

I currently have an iPod classic and have recently purchased an iPod touch that I have not used yet. Tonight, I am going to try synching it to my current iTunes. Should I run into any problems trying to share an iTunes library among a few differnt iPods? My wife has one also so that would be 3 iPods using the same iTunes, same computer.
Additionally I backed up all my music on CD's through iTunes as I am going to be getting a new computer. Once I get my new computer, download iTunes, and login does all my "purchased" music through iTunes transfer or does that move with my backup disks?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can use as many iPods on a PC as you want. iTunes knows each one's unique serial number.

  • If i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it as the option 'set up as new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos and ect?

if i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it to the option 'set up as a new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and log into my apple ID so i can just restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos, contacts, ect. and then later i can add contacts that i need/want instead of them restoring them from icloud?
The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...
and i hope you understand my problem..
i would REALLY REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me a solution to my problem!!! thank you so much!

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

i was trying to add music onto my new ipod, and my itunes said it needs version 10.6.3. i then downloaded it, then it said it requires mac os x version 10.6.8. what does that mean?

If it's a fourth generation or earlier model, you need to download iTunes 10.6.3; the newer versions won't run on 10.5.8.
If it's a fifth generation iPod touch, you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, which requires an Intel Mac, and then run Software Update. This also works with earlier iPods but isn't the best solution.

  • New Ipod Nano on Itunes but won't import songs

I just plugged my son's brand new Ipod Nano into Itunes and it appeared on the left side as David's Ipod but when I went to import songs from my library it won't allow me to do it. It has a circle with a line through it anytime I attempt to drag a song on to it. I have two other Ipods (nano and mini) and never had this happen. I installed the software that came with it before this happened. It also says something like Ipod can't be upgraded because playlists no longer exist...When I first plugged it in the Itunes said that the library was too large for the nano and that it could select the songs for me. When I said yes it started downloading all these songs from the library (songs my son didn't want). I managed to stop it by having everything deleted off the nano but now I can't import anything. Help!!! Thanks

I actually have the windows XP and not ME if that makes a difference

  • My brand new ipod touch won't let me download apps.

My brand new ipod touch won't let me download apps.  I put in my password and then get a screen that says "Download Now".  I can't press the okay button to start the download.  What should I do?  All of the other buttons on the screen work, so I don't think it is broken.

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.

  • My new iPod touch says it can't find any of my music?

I just go a new iPod touch 5g and when I downloaded the newest iTunes software, and I uploaded all my music onto iTunes, I plugged in my new iPod. When I clicked the "sync" button it started to sync all of my music. After a few seconds a couple pop-ups windows came up telling me that it could find NONE of my music. Then it stopped syncing, and didn't load any of my music onto the iPod. I have no idea what went wrong, but can someone PLEASE help?

I think I found the problem. I moved the music from my Mac to my windows computer using a USB drive and when i unplugged the USB drive, it said it couldn't find any of the music. but after i plugged it back in, it seems to have worked.
