New ipod won't let me sync indicates 3 error boxes

I feel like an Ipod reject even thought this is my 4th ipod. While attempting to connect my 4th generation ipod it brings up 3 error messages.
1. Attempting to copy to the disk "ipod" failed. You do not have enough access privileges for the operation. Itunes could not save to your Music Folder because you do not have write access. Check permissions on your Music Folder (umm how do I do that?) & folder in you Music Folder, then try copying this file again.
2. The ipod cannot be synced The disk could be read "from or written to"
3. Improper device removal - even though I push eject and the ipod itself establishes ok to disconnect
I have updated everything the new itunes 8.0.1 version, quicktime and even go into disk utilities trying to update the privileges. Im so confused! Never had a problem with any other ipods and these error messages until 4th generation ipod or the 8.0.1 itunes

I am continuously getting the "You do not have enough access privileges for the operation" and the "improper device removal" error messages (but I have NOT ejected it at all!) when I try to sync my yellow 4th gen nano. To fix the yellow nano, which freezes completely, I have to reset it by pushing Menu and the middle button. It will then reboot and sync normally. I have all of my software up to date and am using Leopard on a Core Duo iMac. My iPhones never have any problems. Occasionally, if I leave another iPod (including my black 4th gen nano) sitting in its dock and wake my iMac up from sleep, they will say they cannot be synced because they cannot be found. To correct that, all I have to do is quit iTunes and then open it back up. I have never ever gotten the "privileges" message before the Yellow nano (which is only two days young!).
