New iPod won't update

I recently purchased an iPod with video to replace my mini. I registered my iPod video on itunes and it shows up on the device list. However, when I connect it to my computer the "Do not disconnect" keeps flashing and itunes bar says that it is updated. I have the most current version of itunes, have restarted my computer, restarted my ipod, I have even tried to restore. I have had it plugged in for 45 minutes now and the "Do not disconnect" will not go away! I have tried everything I could think of. PLEASE HELP!!!!

This Apple knowledge-base article may help address that issue.
Strange iPod behaviour.
As to the "do not disconnect" message.
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes version 7 or later, connect the iPod and when you see the summary screen, uncheck the box marked "enable disk use".
If you are using an earlier version of iTunes, right click on the iPod in the source list, select options and uncheck the same box.
In future your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.
One other thing. When posting here on Apple Discussions, beware of points trolls.

    please help me

Hi I had the same problem with my last ipod. i tried all of the steps on the apple support site but none of them worked. I decided to send my ipod in for a repair. Anyway when a week later my ipod came back it was fixed but when i loaded up the computer the disk locked again. I followed through the instructions which said to download the newest software. So i downloaded the new software again and this still didnt work. The last thing i tried to do was to use an old version of an updater so i used (ipod updater 2004-11-15) this ran through the restore process and after completing this, the menu on the ipod loaded up. I then connected to itunes and it allowed it to communicate and transfer the songs
It worked for me i hope it works for you.
    Best of luck

  • Playsists selected for syncing no longer exist? ipod won't update

My new ipod won't update because it says that playlists I've selected for syncing no longer exist. For this reason I can't get any of my music onto my ipod and I don't understand what I am supposed to do to fix this
    dell inspiron   Windows XP

Hi guys, I've been having the same problem. Specifically, when I try to transfer songs from iTunes to my iPod I get the following error message: "Songs in the iPod "My iPod" cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist". I did some searching around at this site, and found that one possible problem is that my library is larger than my iPod's capacity, so I have to eliminate some songs. I did this, but I still get the same error message.

  • I deleted my "iPod Slection" playlist and now my iPod won't update.

I don't know exactly how it happened but the songs on my original "iPod Selection" playlist got messed up and so iTunes automatically created another "iPod Selection Playlist" and I didn't want the songs it put in that playlist on my iPod so I deleted it. But now my iPod won't update because it says "your iPod cannot be updated because all the playlists selected for updating no longer exist." If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Seems like you've got auto sync with your iPod and it is looking for a specifically named playlist.
    Check your preferences.
Create a new playlist and sync that.

  • IPod Won't Update - Is iTunes 7 to blame?

I started having problems with my iPod's playback - skipping songs in a playlist and skipping to the next track before the end of the song - I then tried to add songs (and update calenders etc.) using iTunes 7 (having only just downloaded it) and then everything stopped working.
The iPod registered on the computer and in iTunes - the contents of the iPod appeared in ITunes too, but it refused to accept new songs - when I tried to add songs, iTunes said it was updating, but it froze on the second song and iTunes then crashed.
I have restored the iPod and reinstalled iTunes 7, but neither of them work - the iPod won't update and iTunes constantly crashes (particularly when playing and pausing songs). I tried downgrading to iTunes 6.0.5 - which works fine - but the iPod still would not update.
Are these problems due to iTunes 7 being rubbish or do I have a broken iPod?? Is there anything I can try??
I have also just realised my mistake in putting this question in the Fifth Generation iPod forum, as I don't have one. Apologies for that - I have an iPod with click wheel but I don't seem to be able to move the question!

i cannot find a way to update my itunes to 10.6.8. i need this in order to sync my new ipod. i just updated to 10.6.3.help!

As Limnos says, you first need to update to OS X 10.6.8 before you can install iTunes 11 (please note the version numbers).
To update OS X close all running applications and make sure you have a current backup. Then pull down the Apple menu and select Software Update. This may show you several items that you can update. Choose OS X 10.6.8. This may take some time. After the process is complete you will be able to run Software Update again and it ought to offer you iTunes 11.

Specific songs from the iTunes Music Store don't play
Try deauthorizing and reauthorizing your computer. Repeat the deauthorization and reauthorization process for any other iTunes Music Store accounts for which your computer is authorized.
1.Double-click one of your affected iTunes Music Store songs.
2.Enter your account name and password in the resulting dialog.
    3.Click OK.
After you've deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring your iPod.
After you've restored your iPod, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try recreating your iTunes library.
After you've recreated your iTunes library, open iTunes, select your iPod, and choose Update iPod from the File menu.

  • IPod Won't Update with New Playlists and Audio Only

My iPod will not update new playlists that have been created or add any audio files from iTunes. Videos come over just fine. Powerbook 12" G4 with 10.4.4, iTunes 6.0.2. Latest iPod software, 0106, deleted the old iPod updates. Also, did a hard reset on the iPod.
Under my administrator test login, playlists and songs come over fine, but I can't seem to get it to work in my regular account. Any idea what do do without reformatting my hard drive and reloading software?

I also just started having this trouble on my 6 month old nano. I have it set to automatically update selected playlists only. I update the songs in those playlists in itunes, then I connect my ipod to my PC. The ipod and itunes say it is updating, but when done the same old songs are on the playlists in the ipod. Itunes does show the correct playlists with the update songs, they just don't seem be updating on the ipod, even though there seems to be a good connection and the ipod says it is updating when plugged into the PC. Any thoughts?

  • New 60GB iPod won't update my Library of Music

    Hello
Just purchased a new 60gb iPod with video, hooked it up to my eMac via the very slow USB cable (provided). The iPod mounts onto my desktop, then after just 2 song imports, I get the following error msg, despite me not touching the iPod or cable:
"DEVICE REMOVAL: The device you removed was not properly put away. Data might have been lost or damaged. Before you unplug your device, you must first select its icon in the Finder and choose Eject from the File menu."
I tried another cable but got the same error. I have over 16gb of music to load onto my new iPod, any thoughts how to resolve the issue. My old 2nd generation iPod is looking very attractive at the moment.
    Thanks!
NOTE: I've updated my iTunes to the latest version.
    eMac (combo), 12-inch PowerBook G4; 60gb iPod 5th gen   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

You cable isn't slow but your USB ports are. The eMac has USB 1.1 ports, USB 2 which is considerably faster is recommended for the iPod Video.
    Mac System Requirements
    • Built-in USB port (USB 2.0 recommended)
    • Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later
    • iTunes 6 (included) or later

  • IPOD won't update from iTunes

Jeez, I thought that iTunes/iPOD would be pretty simple; move music from here to there. I have been using for over a year with no problem, but within the latest couple of upgrades to iTunes, my iPOD will no longer update correctly. I have spent over 6 hours trying to figure this crap out, and it still won't work. YEAH, I have the latest Updater/iPOD software installed, and the latest iTunes. Plug in my iPOD, and it says its updating, and I can see the new music on the iPOD from iTunes, but its NOT ON MY IPOD when I unplug and try and play. The other day I formatted the dang thing, and spent five hours moving music; next day added two additional songs to the library, and they will not move to the iPOD. Have tried moving manually, but they still will not play on the iPOD.
What kind of crap are you giving us??? If iTunes/iPOD won't do what its supposed to do (move music from here to there), then I don't want to mess around with it. If you can't move my music properly, why would I put my Contacts/Calendars on this device?
Support: Forget about it! Post a message in a Discussion Group and hope for the best. Forget about actually calling someone and asking for help, even though you paid top dollar for your 30gb iPOD. I'm starting to look for some fool to buy it and let them deal with it. Oh Yeah, by the way, the screen is scratched even though I bought a PROTECTIVE case for it.
Several people in our office were interested in purchasing an iPOD, iShuffle and I have convinced them to look elsewhere.
Two people in our office recently purchased iShuffles that did not work...

  • My new ipod won't sync with itunes and does not show on windows

    Hi
I got a new ipod nano gen 7 to replace 2 old ipods that were stolen.  the problem is that it won't sync at all.  When I plug it in it charges, but my windows 7 browser doesn't see it, and neither does my itunes.  I have Mcafee security and I have updated itunes, windows and checked my mcafee settings as per other users issues on the web and it still isn't working!  If I plug it into another computer though it works fine.
Have tried - resetting ipod, downloading upgrades, switching firewall off.
No idea what else i can do!
    Help!

Hi I am having the same problem and I saw that u fixed it on your own...how?

  • New ipod won't restore from icloud

If I set up my ipod as new, can I still restore from icloud?
I purchased a new ipod touch yesterday, and in the course of setting it up, it will not restore from icloud, so I thought I might be able to set it up as new and still restore from icloud once I got it set up, is this correct?  I would update from itunes, but my computer's operating system won't allow me to update to the newest version of itunes, so the ipod and computer won't "talk" to each other.

Do other devices now connect to the router OK?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Try on another network as Apple recommended.
