Well there are a few good deck days in Iowa. My current Express and original silver saucer Apple Airports just don't give me good coverage outside the house. Time to add another Express or go large with an Extreme. Anyone think there is an advantage with range of the Extreme over the Express? I heard that using a second Airport slows the output of the piggy backed Airport way down. But that has to be better than a one bar signal does it not?

You can't draw the line at does it work perfectly and expect the results to mean anything. The bottom line for potential customers is can they actually produce and collect that paycheck.
When I left the poll the tally was 11 for whom it works, and only 2 for whom it doesn't. That's pretty encouraging. What the hell did you guys do after I left to make Jeffery have to ask this question?)

Need wifi network advice

I have an issue that I need help with
I am a musician who uses a MacBook Pro and an iPad for mixing live shows. My Laptop is connected via firewire to a digital mixer (Presonus Studiolive 24.4.2) the Laptop is running Virtual Studio Live (VSL) which lets you control the mixer from the laptop. For front of house mixing I use an iPad which has the VSL remote app on it which allows me to control VSL on the laptop to control the mixer from anywhere in the room. as long as the iPad and the laptop share the same wifi connection they are linked.
When there is no wifi in the area, which happens a lot, I create a network on the laptop and join it on the iPad. this has worked fine untill recently. I bought a new wireless microphone that is digital signal and the signal is up in the 2.4 ghz range, same as my wifi network, so now I am getting connection drop outs between the laptop and iPad.
So my question is, is there a way to set the laptops built in airport to a higher band, like up in the 5k range? I know the new airport base station is dual band, and i believe the MBP and the iPad can use those upper bands, but is there a way to select that on the MBP?

Correct, but the potential issue you face here is that the base station is simultaneous dual band, meaning that while it can broadcast a 5 GHz signal, it is also broadcasting a 2.4 GHz signal as well....which cannot be turned off....and may still cause some interference issues.
One potential solution might be to enable the option to assign a different network name to the 5 GHz band and then "point" your Mac and the iPad at that network name to connect at 5 GHz.
A simpler, and also less expensive option might be to use the single band AirPort Express and set it to broadcast a 5 GHz network only. Then log on with your Mac and iPad to the network name that you assign when you setup the AirPort Express.

Join new Hub3 setup to existing WiFi networks?

I am looking for the simplest "one off" solution to what will be an ongoing problem!
Our family have 4 large WiFi networks located at different houses. All settings are the same so that we can move equipment (with complex passwords) freely between locations without keep changing settings.
Security issues are already fully appreciated so, for brevity, do not need to be included in any suggestions.
Is it possible to get my old WiFi network connected to the Internet through my new Hub3 with its unique settings?
Changing everybody's settings to match my Hub3 won't work when they eventually get their own Hubs.

By unique, if it's your SSID name, wireless encryption type and wireless key, then yes you can
edit. I currently run 2 hubs (only 1 connected to the line) and my wireless devices will pick the strongest wireless connection depending on where I am in my home. The same principle for what you want to achieve

Next, I have buy my Adobe software. When I started using Premiere (4.0?) there were no forums and technical support had its limits (severe limits). I was content with my old version of Premiere until my computer died. My new laptop came with Windows Vista and my old software will not load, so I will buy a full version of the new software (my old software, Premiere 7 does not qualify me to uprade).

Verizon is not a GSM carrier. Verizon and Sprint are CDMA carriers that have also recently adding an LTE (4G) network. The iPhone 5 is a combination LTE/GSM/CDMA network compatible phone.
ATT and T-Mobile are GSM carriers. ATT has also recently added an LTE network.
If you were able to talk and surf the web on Verizon's CDMA network with your iPhone previously, that was some trick which is not supported with a CDMA network as is supported with GSM 3G networks.

I'm running os 10.5.8 and want to upgrade to new mountain lion but need to first upgrade to 10.6.8. I downloaded that but got message saying i needed 10.6 first, which I can't seem to find anywhere. When i try Software Update from the apple menu, it says

New 13' retina keeps losing wifi network

just bought the new 13' retina mbp, was working without a glitch the first few days.
starting from yesterday, it suddenly couldn't find my airport extreme home network anymore (it could not find nothing at all, not even my neighbours' network). had to restart it for the wifi to see my network again. today, after going to sleep for a while, it lost all network again...
what is going on?

Had a bad IPS SSM-20 RMA for new one now license needs to be transfered?

Now the licence for the IPS on my account service contract is different from the one installed. the serial numbers are different? How can I get the one I returned via RMA and have a license for the new serial number?

Use your open TAC case to request the license be transferred. It should have been done automaticly when your unit was RMA'ed, but if not just ask your TAC engineer to do it.

I just had a similar problem. Both the ipad 1 and ipad 2 in my household quit connecting to the network even though it seemed to recognize it. if you think it is recognizing your network, just not connecting, check to see if bluetooth is turned on. i had to turn bluetooth off and then manually enter the DNS number.
My solution also came after I re-started my network and reset all the settings on the ipad2. The DNS number then showed along with IP submet Mask and router. I used that dns number to enter into ipad1 after turning bluetooth off on it.
Totally unscientific fix that may have been more coincidental than correct but you might try it. BTW--no idea how bluetooth even got turned on to begin with.

Computer Won't See Wifi Networks

Hi,
So my laptop was working just fine until the day before yesterday. I didn't drop it, etc., but now it seems to be unable to see wireless networks.
Specifically, this morning I tried to connect it to a new network (I'm not at home) and at first it saw about 3 different networks (none of them in the house). Now, it doesn't recognize any networks at all. Is it possible that something is damaged on my wifi card?
My phone sees the network, which leads me to believe that maybe it is not a router channel problem, but something else. I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro from 2012 with Maverciks. Any ideas?

I have actually rebooted everything and my computer now sees SOME wifi networks, but still not the one that is literally half a foot away from me. The one that it does see, it can't connect to...
I ran the Diagnostics report, but that seems pretty useless...

Check your wireless router's instruction book, there should be a way to access the settings through your web browser. The password should be stored there somewhere.
