New iTouch is outdated already??

I just (July 13) purchased an iTouch at my warehouse. When I connected to the Apple iTunes to use an application (AP news), it told me that my operating system was old and I needed to upgrade to the new operating system for the price of $9.95, for the application to work. I just bought it!
When I purchased this iPod I understood it was the latest version and it appears to be outdated. Is there a provision to upgrade the os software for new purchasers? Otherwise I will return the unit to the store and wait for newer units to appear. Seems there should be a provision for new purchasers to have access to the latest OS when they buy a new iTouch.

Your 2G touch will continue to work just fine with OS 2.2.1 that you have - that's the shipping version supplied with 2G touches. If you look around the forum you will see several message threads devoted to this topic (paying for the 3.0 OS software) and not much is to be gained by rehashing everything again.
Upgrading to OS 3.0 is optional and NOT required. (In fact, some people on the forum might suggest you NOT upgrade to the .0 version because of the problems some people are having with it. I have NOT had any problems with 3.0 myself.)

I understand I can upgrade the RAM and upgrade the internal drive. But I don't know if that is sufficient to run a newer version OS...which ever that might be. I think the newer ones need a dual core intel chip to run? I plan to give my daughter a new iTouch but since I already have maxed out devices on my laptop, I thought I would just update my old PowerBook G4.

No. The current iPod touch models require Mac OS X 10.6.8, which requires an Intel Mac.

You can upgrade the iOS with no problems. Since the new iOS will be out in fall, this could be a long time without an ipod as well

hi philly, thanks for getting back to me, especially on such a busy day.
I don't think that's quite the issue though. I bought an album and it appears in 'my purchases' within the itunes app. Yet, in order to listen to the music, i must use the 'music' app and in this application, there are only three tracks displayed at any one time from my downloaded album.
I can 'download all' from the 'my purchases' section but that still doesn't help, it just keeps the last three tracks downloaded in the music app.
I have the 'icloud' enabled and wondered if it had anything to do with that.
i have successfully downloaded another full album totally into the music app, but this first album is causing me problems.

You probably can, but this type of configuration is not recommended or supported by Apple.
Two cautions if you want to try this:
1) The Time Capsule has to be configured to "Join" your existing wireless network in this type of setup...and to do that, you must know the exact type of wireless security that your network is using.
2) Backups are likely going to take twice as long. The wireless signal must travel from your computer to the wireless router and then from the wireless router back to the Time Capsule. Two "hops"......even if the computer is located close to the Time Capsule.
If you want to try this, we can tell you how....but with no guarantees on your results....since this is not officially supported.

I want to change my apple id, but I am told that the new email add is already linked to an account?

When I tried to log in with the new email addy, I got a message that this emaill addy had not been set up as an account yet. So I cancelled that message, went into my account witht the old email addy, and proceded to follow the necessary steps to change my ID.
I then received a message that the new email addy was already attached to an account. ??????????????? I tried the new email again, but it still wants me to set up new account (ie reenter all my information). How do I get my new email addy cleared from the system so I can use it on my current account?

THe email address you want to use may be set as the recovery email for another account. That would prevent you from using it, until you remove it from that account.

How do I add a new line to an already open but exhausted PO?

I am looking for way(s) I can add a new line to an already open PO, (whose funds are exhausted) to accomodate unplanned expenses related to the same project/vendor. Is adding a new line to the original purshase requisition the right way to go?

Hi Fatima,
For unplanned expenses we actually do not need additional line item.
In case the invoice from vendor shows other expenses then in MIRO there is a TAB for Unplanned Expenses and we can put such expenses there. These expenses should be with in the tolerances limits set. Now if the expenses cross the limit, depending on the settings you have made, the invoice is posted but blocked for payment. Then some one in the approval list should approve the same and the payment can be made.
This whole process also gets recorded as PO history and hence is very well documented as well
Normally once a PO is signed it is binding on both parties. So as a Business Process we should not try to add a line item when the PO is exsausted.
In such case i think it would be a good idea to either create a new PO.
Some times companies aslo use OPEN PO if it is a year round activity.

If you want to transfer app dat you need to restore the new iPod from the backup of the old iPod. Restoring from backup will result in your new iPod being just like your old iPOd except you will have to reenter keychain items like passwords since those only get restore to the same device upon a restore.

Wrong Apple ID in App Store on new iTouch

I got the new iTouch 4th gen. for Christmas. A few years ago I had an older version of the iTouch and about 40 or so apps for it bought from my first account. I recently made a new apple ID for use with this iTouch. I've had no problems with it so far, all the apps and all my music synced with it, my new apple ID shows up in my settings and on the iTunes app. However, when I go to the app store application it tells me I have 38 updates for the applications I bought a long time ago. When I try to update these (free updates..) It wantes me to log in with my apple ID. However, it gives me a username that is my AOL email and I have never associated it with any apple products as far as i know. It won't let me change it to my real apple ID. When I go to iTunes on my computer it says there are no updates available, no matter which account I'm logged into.
1. How do I change it so my real apple ID is used in the app store app?
2. Why aren't the updates showing on iTunes?

Go to Setting>Store and sign into the itunes account that purchased the app. Is your computer authorized for the iTunes account for which the updates are not showing? Also, are the non-showing app for the update showing in iTunes?

Yes, you have to update the iPod in order to retore from backup. The iOS on the "new" has to be aequal to r greater than on the iPod from which the backup was made. The iOS downloads are unique to an iDevice and model (the one for a 3G iPod will not work for a 4G iPod).
