New iToy, old Apple ID

We bought the kid an ipod touch for Christmas. Wife has an ipad and iphone 4 with her apple id and I have a 4S with my apple ID (big mistake, I know). I want the kid to use mom's apple id since that's the one tied to the ipad and the kid gets ipad apps on it. Please help me make sure I do the right thing concerning IDs, itunes, etc.
1. Create an icloud email acct for the kid under moms apple ID (I'm guessing it would help w/ iMessage??)
2. Set up the allowance feature for the kid so she can purchase music/apps without pinging my CC acct
3. Set up Find My Friends

While I've not done it, it looks to me that in order for your wife to purchase store credits to give to someone else, her account will have to have a valid credit card associated with it. That means anyone with that AppleID and password can purchase to their hearts content, as it will be charged to the credit card on file with the account.

New vs old apple TV as music server

I'm currently using an Apple TV as our music server, though because it runs hot and sits in our cabinet, I have to reset it all the time. I'm intrigued by the new Apple TV, but also know that it only does streaming music as it doesn't have an HDD.
For the new Apple TV:
1. Would I need to keep my computer on all the time if I wanted to use the Apple TV and stream music?
2. Is there a way to attach a dedicated hard drive to the Apple TV either directly or through our home network so that I could listen to music without needing to have our computer on?
One of the best things about the old Apple TV was music that was on the Apple TV itself, but of course, it meant it ran hot and would need to be reset a lot.
Any recommendations?

Just bought a MBP MD101LL/A. It is brand new. Because it is a 2012 model, I am concerned about the Li-Ion date of manufacture. If the DOM was 2 years ago will apple replace it? Li-Ion is reported of having a service / self life of based on age and not just cycles (Professor Jeff Dahn of Dalhousie University). Depending on how the battery is stored the self life could be as low as 1 to 2 years.

Yes this would be a problem. You should talk to the manager of the Apple store where you purchased the MBP and ask him to address your concern.

Others still can see my old apple id as "iMessage" although it isn't used a iMessage anymore. So how to disbale iMessage function for that?

I have an iPhone 4s. The email I need to use is completely locked because Windows believed someone else was trying to use my account (another reason Windows and I don't seem to get along). Anyway, I think my little sister may have accidentally clicked "Forgot my Password" while trying to download an app on my iPad that was under the same ID. You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

Sorry meffie, you cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another. Are the songs under the old ID all purchased via iTunes?
If so, then sign onto the iTunes on the computer with your old ID and Authorize the computer for that Apple ID: Store on the top menu, then click on Authorize This Computer.
Once it is Authorized, you can then go to the iTunes Store and under Quick Links on the right-hand side, click on Purchased. Then click on Music, Songs, Not In this Library, and you should be able to see all of your purchased music, which you can download to your iTunes library individually by clicking on the cloud next to the song, or you can click on Download All at the bottom of the screen to download all of the tunes.

You will need to use that old Apple ID and password to update any apps you purchased using that account. So you will either need to recover that Apple ID, which if you forgot the password you should be able to reset here:

or you will need to delete all those apps and repurchase them using your current Apple ID.

Recently I decided to change my email address for some security reasons. Now I need to change my apple ID but there is a problem:
I have purchased a lot of things by my ID ( OSX as well as iTunes) and really don't want to pay for them again.
Here is the question: How can I transfer all those purchases to the new ID and how can I close ( deactivate) that old Apple ID ?

You can't. Apple will not merge IDs and Apple will not move content from one ID to another.
There is no need for a new ID, just change the primary email address in the current ID and change your password if you are concerned about security.

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account. I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there. On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back. Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email. The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with iCloud on your devices after updating your Apple ID. I recommend the following steps:
Symptoms
iOS 7 may ask for the password to your previous Apple ID when you sign out of iCloud.
Resolution
1. Use your current Apple ID password
Trying using your current Apple ID password. If that doesn't work, continue to the next step.
2. Sign out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime
If you are currently signed in to iMessage or FaceTime
If you are not signed in to iMessage or FaceTime
3. Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't work, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud and try to sign out.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud and sign in with the new Apple ID.

Any way to switch apps that used an old apple ID on the phone cause I can't update them since it won't let me change my new bank card visa details on that account which is the whole reason I made a new acc so i could download apps again.

Some of my apps are used on my old apple ID but then I lost my bank card visa had to get a new one then the transactions went thru that I made on my old apple ID and now it asks me to update my billing info cause I had got a new card and I tried doing that but it wouldn't accept my security code (the three numbers on the back of the card so I had to make a new account and that new account accepted the new card just fine so it wasn't the cards problem and now I can't update my apps used on the old APPLE ID because it wants me to pay off the transactions I made on that account but I can't pay it off cause it wont accept my new card.. So i don't know what to do. Can't just delete the apps cause one of em has a bunch of my music on it and te other that needs updating is too big of a file to redownload since I have no Internet now and the iPhone only lets you download 20mb or lower apps without wifi

I just purchased a new iPhone and I am not able to get into my iCloud. When I plugged it into my computer, I used iTunes to get my phone up and running. Well it gave me my old apple ID as my info. Now I cannot get into anything because I don't remember my old password and when I go to the website to recover my password it is of no help cause I don't remember any security questions(over 8 years old) and that email account don't even exist anymore. Now when I go to try I cloud on my new phone all it keeps doing is trying to verify my old iTunes and won't let me use my new apple ID to sign in it keeps sAying to type in my old password from my old apple ID that I just don t have. To change to iCloud ID on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID then sign in with the new ID. If you don't know the password for the old ID, and if the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.
