New itunes 10.1 skipping not playing entire track

I recently purchased a set of tracks from an online store that wasn't tunes, and one of the tracks doesn't play to its entirety. It only plays up to the 32 second mark and then skips to the next track. When I try to push it to play further it starts from the beginning no matter at what point in the timeline I push it to, but it will only play up to 32 seconds and still skip to the next track.
What the **** is going on??? Can this be corrected? I've tried downloading the file multiple times but the same thing happens.
I even tried downloading it to a different computer using an older version of itunes and it works fine! Which leads me to believe that this might be a problem with itunes 10.1
Anyone else have this problem?

Too weird. That usually gets around almost anything. Can you tell where it failed - did the .aiff not encode past the 32 second mark, or the re-encoded .mp3 not play after that point?
If you're willing to give it a whirl, (seeing as the file may be messed up anyhow) try changing the filetype to .mpg and see if QuickTime can play it. Your OS may put up one of those 'are you sure?' messages when you make the change but push through and do it. That will narrow it down to whether it's the file or your install of iTunes.

  • I have windows 7,  did a factory restore now new itunes with icloud will not play movies i have download before update

I  have windows 7, I just had to do a factory restore. I have a click free for a backup for my computer so when i went to restore my couputer all my music and movies are there but  when my power went out ,I want to watch a movie in the new Itunes none of my movies would play. It looks like i had to download them again with icloud and why sose some songs and videos have the icloud on them in the upper right corner if i don't have to download them again?

Maybe one of these answers will work for you. I found these in Google with "wordpad windows 7 single space" (quotations included):

  • Just upgraded to new iTunes, downloaded shows, will not play.

I just upgraded to the newest itunes last night, and today I downloaded three episodes of Lost.
They will not play. It says time is elapsing, but there is no sound or video, just a gray screen.
Does anyone have any idea why?

Try the following: download  BatChmod and run on the iDVD project package with the settings shown in the screenshot below:
If your files use a different Group you can use it.  Then launch iDVD and see if you can open the project file.

  • Ipod not playing entire track

I currnently have an Ipod Classic 160g. im having problems with my songs not playing all the way thru before skipping to the next track. on my computer the songs play thru all the way. its only on the Ipod, also the Ipod shows the song being there. for instance the song is 6 mins long, the time on the song goes down but like 2 mins in depending on the song it will jump aheaad. this is occuring with approximately 1/3 of the library. its really driving me nuts, ill just be getting into a song and blam its gone. Please someone who knows about this please respond.

The iPod seems to fail to play all of the occasional track that iTunes, and indeed other PMPs, are happy to play. There is probably some minor technical error in the internal structure of the file which is normally ignored by other playback software but causes the Classic to bail out.
You may like to try scanning the files with MP3 Validator which can find & fix some internal MP3 errors.
Some users have also suggested that completely removing all id3 tags and then replacing the information can be a solution. This can be achieved in iTunes by selecting an affected track, right/option clicking and using the option Convert id3 tags > None. Since some files may mistakenly have more than one tag you may need to repeat this action. Once you have confirmed that no tag is present you can replace the tag information using Convert id3 tags > V2.3 (I believe it is recommended to avoid using V2.4).
Personally I have found files for which these solutions don't work. In this case the workaround is either to re-rip the tracks or get iTunes to re-encode the file, e.g. convert AAC to MP3 or vice versa and sync the newly encoded file to the iPod instead. Because transcoding will cause a loss of fidelity you should keep your original file so that if a future iPod firmware resolves this issue you can put your original files back onto the iPod.

  • Nano not playing entire track

I have transfered an audio book to my nano. It plays just fine in itunes (9) but it cuts off the last few minutes of each track when playing on the iPod. The track information indicates it is the correct length and as I watch it play, with ~ 9 minutes remaining in the track, it switches to the next track. Has anyone seen this behaviour?

  • I recently purchased a new computer and tried to move my itunes music to the new PC, I am not savay on computers, but music will not play on new PC, error (!) will not play and have to locate.  Why is this please help.

please help, someone that doesn't have the savay on moving music from an old pc to a new pc.  Music will not play message comes up and have to search. also purchased music from iPhone and does not show on my music library on PC.  This is very frustrating.  Thank you

It all depends on exactly how you move the library from one machine to the other. The database holding information about your library is normally in a folder called iTunes, with the media in a subfolder called iTunes Media. In this layout you can usually copy the entire iTunes folder from one machine to the other and it will work. If the media folder is split to a new location however then often the links to tracks will fail on a new computer.
You shoud find that the FindTracks script is able to repair the links in your library.
I'm not sure I know what is going on with the purchased music, however if you enable Edit > Preferences > Store > Automatic Downloads > Music you should be able to recover your past store purchases.

Did you copy your actual iTunes content from your computer before reinstalling iTunes, or did you just copy your iTunes library which only contains the pointers to your songs / books locations ?
You might, depending upon your country and if they are still in your country's store, be able to redownload your music purchases and your ibooks via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage - you will need to delete the entries from your library (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' messages) before they will potentially show with the cloud icon against them in Purchased for redownloading.
Or copy them from your backup of your downloads/library and add them to your iTunes library via File > Add To Library

  • My iP5 will not play any track not purchased from itunes Store, red circle with red square inside appears and skips the track, any ideas?

my iP5 will only play songs purchased formmthe itunes store.
all over songs, uploaded from cd's on my laptop and dragged into itunes will no longer play, a red circle with a red square in the middle appears and skips the track.
anybody know why Itunes / iP5 will no longer play all tracks, has worked for years, only stopped with the latest itunes update.

    Hey Kelsieee,
First, I would try to resolve the issue with the ! in a circle that you're seeing in iTunes. There's some steps in the following article that go over what that ! usually means and how to fix it:

    Hello Whitney262,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
I would go ahead and make sure you can first download the content, then remove the song from your iTunes Library, and download again from your iTunes past purchases.  The article below will walk you through the entire process:

  • I purchased a movie on iTunes, but it will not play on my Apple TV1.  It says the Apple TV is not authorized to play this content.

I purchased a movie on iTunes, but it will not play on my Apple TV1.  It says the Apple TV is not authorized to play this content.

    Annoying isn't it.
This seems to have started at the end of October and may be some kind of 'authorisation expiry' on the original unit that needs updating.
    Solution include:
Purchase something on the AppleTV1 itself with DRM (a free TV Show episode might be an idea if yiou can find one).
Remove the connection to itunes by removing the iTunes library from AppleTV's Computers>Settings menu, then add it back again.
Remember this will wipe synced content from the AppleTV if AppleTV1 is syncing (My Movies/TV Shows etc) as opposed to streaming (My Shared Movies etc) from that itunes library.  In theory direct purchases on AppleTV that have never transferred to itunes might survive the 'wipe for a clean slate for a new sync' process that happens when you remove a sync library but don't risk it and right click on the AppleTV Device in itunes, choose Transfer Purchases if there are any prior to resetting the AppleTV Computers entry and readding the library.  If AppleTV is streaming only it's very quick to remove the libarry and re-add it as there's nothing to sync when you re-establish the connection - it works I've done it.  Purchasing a protected music video on my other AppleTV1 which was synced also worked.
    Good luck

  • I have songs in my iTunes App that will not play.  It keeps saying that this computer is not authorized to play would you like to authorize it.  I would but its asking me to authorize an account that was changed.  What do I do????

I have songs in my iTunes Application that will not play.  I keeps saying that this computer is not authourized to play name of song would you like to authourize it.  The problem is its the old account I had and that has been changed.  How am I going to authorize these songs when this account no longer exists.

I posted about this yesterday -- it happened to me, and the solution was incredibly simple. An Apple tech guy had me delete my SC Info Folder, located on my XP in Application Data.
    Here is my post:

Here is the link about the SC Info Folder (4th down):

It wasn't every song, just a few of them. A nightmare to figure out what to do, but it was solved upon reboot.

  • I downloaded a show on itunes and it will not play the last 15 minutes.  It just stops and can't go any further.  How do I fix this?

I downloaded a show on itunes and it will not play the last 15 minutes.  It just stops and will not go any further.  What can I do?  I am using a pc.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • I downloaded a song to my itunes and it will not play.  How do I get it to work?

I downloaded a song off of itunes and it will not play but indicates that it is downloaded.  Any thoughts on how to get it to work?

    Hi randybratton,
If a specific song that was purchased on your iPhone won't transfer to iTunes on your computer, you may want to try redownloading it directly to your computer from the iTunes Store. You may find the following article helpful:

  • I am setting up a new iTunes account and do not have a credit card.  When I am setting the new account up it does NOT give me an option of "none" in lieu of an actual credit card. What do I do?

I am setting up a new iTunes account and do not have a credit card.  When I am setting the new account up it does NOT give me an option of "none" in lieu of an actual credit card. What do I do?

How did you create it ? There are instructions on this page for creating a new account (the instructions won't work with existing existing account) without giving credt card details : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
e.g. if currently logged into an account then log of it, then find a free app in the store, click on its free 'price', and you should then be able to create a new account during the 'buying' process and get 'none' as an option on the payments screen
