New iTunes 12.1.14 x64 installation

I installed iTunes v12.1.14 x64 yesterday & although I have not explored the program too much yet, there are a few problems I've come across:
1. When I try to open Preferences, iTunes completely freezes & takes anywhere between 3 minutes & 3 minutes 45 seconds (yes I timed this, 3 times) for the Preferences box to open up.
2. When I connect it, verifying my iPhone also takes a lot longer than it should.
3. Clicking the Scan For Media button does nothing, but File>Add Folder To Library works just fine.
4. None of my CD's are being imported or even read through iTunes.
Any suggestions on how to correct these problems?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)

  • Problems with Quicktime when downloading new iTunes

I was trying to burn an audio CD from an iTunes playlist, and kept getting error message. So I went to the Apple site to download the newest version of iTunes, to see if that would help. I got the file (iTunes75Setup) downloaded. When I opened it to install iTunes, however, it proceeded into the installing of Quicktime, and partway through it gave me an error message (error # 2738) saying the installation of Quicktime failed, and Quicktime is needed for iTunes functions, so I should try installation again later. I tried a few times and got the same error.
The thing that confuses me, I already HAVE Quicktime installed on my computer separately, and working just fine. (Version 7.1.5) So why do I need to re-install it with iTunes? (Particularly since it seems to be the part of the process that is causing problems.)
Does anyone know how to fix this error, or if there is a way to upgrade to the new iTunes without requiring a re-installation of Quicktime? Thanks!

I am having this same type of problem. When I try to open the new iTunes it says there is a Quicktime error (it cannot initialize). I've tried uninstalling both iTunes and Quicktime and reinstalled them without any luck. Does anyone know how to fix this??

  • How do I move my iPhone to a new iTunes installation?

    Hi folks,
I have a new Windows 7 computer and want to sync my iPhone with it, but iTunes says it's going to delete all of my data. My old computer that I used to sync with is gone; the drive has been reformatted.
I don't care about the music on the phone; I have all of that on my server. However, I'm worried sick about my apps and the data stored within them!! I have years worth of life data, journals, etc, in apps on this phone. How do I tell iTunes, "This is my new computer now; back up and sync here from now on?"
Here's what I've done so far:
    1. I authorized the new iTunes installation with my iTunes account.
    2. I right-clicked on the phone within iTunes and selected "Transfer Purchases." It appeared to work, said it was copying all of my apps. But when I go to the Apps tab and click "Sync Apps", it tells me it's going to replace all of the apps on my phone with the apps in iTunes. However, I only see two (out of dozens) of my apps there! Did "Transfer Purchases" not do what I expected it to? How can I fix this?
    Thank you!

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
The iphone will sync pics and itunes content with one and only one computer at a time.  If you sync to another, it will indeed erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
Also if you sync contacts/calendars to a blank computer, they will be erased as well.  Another reason a backup is critical.
If you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good)then, transfer purchases will transfer itunes purchases.  Make sure you have authorized the computer for your itunes account(s).
About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization
    Backup your iphone:
Backing up, updating, and restoring iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone software
Enter one unique contact and calendar entry on the new computer.  When you first sync you should get the option to merge the data.
Than make a backup copy of your computer and always maintain it.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Transfer Songs from Ipod to New Computer and New Itunes Installation

    Hi,
I want to transfer songs on my Ipod to a new installation of Itunes on a new computer. I get a message that my Ipod is synced to another library and that I can only be synced to one library and that my ipod will be erased and synced to the currently libary. The problem is my current library is empty since it's a new itunes installtion and I don't want to erase my ipod and delete all my songs.
So how do I transfer songs from my ipod to the new itunes installation on my new computer?
    Thanks for any replies.

I think I've read in a post before that you can't do it that way. That you can only transfer music from the computer to the iPod, and not the other way around. I believe they suggested backing up your library (to disk, I guess) and installing it on the new computer. Something like that. It seems silly that the transfer only works one way, but there you are.

i have new pc and it's first installation of itunes...i can't restore my ipod.i have forgot my screen protection password..

If you don't have a computer to which you have previously backed up using iTunes you will need to follow the instructions in the "Use recovery mode" section near the bottom of iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled

    Hello, GwladysPa.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I believe that the iTunes update is requesting your computer's administrator password to update the application.  Here is the article that explains this process.

  • Computer slow and not responding since installation of new iTunes update

    Good Morning,
I downloaded the new iTunes update two days ago.  As soon as I did it my computer was freezing up and none of my programs would respond.  I uninstalled it as my computer was working fine.  I did the update again and the same thing happened.  So this time I uninstalled iTunes only, not Quick Time and my computer is fine.  Is there anyway I can get a link to download the previous version?  I can not do a system restore because my compute does not have one for some reason.  I have tried that.
Also my computer's CPU usage runs normally at anywhere from 4% to 12%, both times after I did the update, it was running at 100% all the time.  I could not shut it off or close any programs.
    Does anybody have any ideas?
    Thank you for your time.

Many thanks Matt - when I spoke to my son last night he did say the anti-virus programme might be the cause, so he told me how to re-install the old Thunderbird version which worked, and to tick the option which says 'allow me to choose whether to install new versions'. So far so good! Very grateful for your help - thanks.

  • How do I copy music files from an iPod 5thGen to a new iTunes installation?

My old WinXP computer crashed & burned (literally). I installed iTunes (11.2.2.3) on my new Win7 PC. How do I copy all my music from my 5th Gen iPod into the new iTunes? My music collection contains only MP4 files ripped from my CD collection--nothing purchased from the iTunes Store. I located a folder named Apple on one of my old flash drives which contains a subfolder named iTunes Music. That folder contains subfolders for each of my original CDs with MP4s for all the tracks. Could I use those files to restore my music to iTunes?

If is a MicroSD card you'll need a MicroSD to SD card adapter. Something like this.
Once you have one of those just insert it into the SD card slot on your Mac then open a Finder window and select all the images and press Command + c to copy then go to the folder you want to put them in and select it and press Command + v to paste to that folder.

  • TS3694 New itunes updates installation error message 0x800736FD. Has anyone encounter such problem before? appreciate your advice

    Hi guys
I have this error message when installing new Itunes updates:
    HResult: 0x800736FD.
    Can anyone help me? thanks

I did some googling and found alot of topics from you on this issue, to me it simply seems like on of the connectors is broken or loose.

  • Will re-syncing iPhone to a new iTunes installation delete app data?

As per topic above. Recently reformatted my computer before I was able to do any backups (Just couldn't get into Windows).
Now I have re-installed everything and have synced my iPhone with a new iTunes library, but I have not synced my apps as I am scared that whatever data on the apps on my iPhone will be deleted.
    Will this happen?

Basically wjosten's advice worked for me. I had wiped my MBP and installed Snow Leopard but forgot to make a backup of my itunes library. My main concern was the app data. I followed the instructions but chickened out at step 8 when iTunes warned me that it would erase the phone and ..." so I cancelled to just make sure I had everything right but it went ahead and made some weird sync anyway which left about 20% of my apps on the phone. So I restored from that backup I made at Step 6 and this time said ok to the sync at step 8.
But then I checked the sync apps checkbox but either didn't realise or something happened that meant all the apps were unchecked. Next thing I see is "removing {app name}" which started freaking me out. I'm not sure what to do from this point so I started checking all the apps and pressed apply. However, it may work better if you cancel the sync but even better would be to have all apps checked in the first place. In the end end though I didn't loose any data - even on the apps that I saw getting removed just moments earlier. WOOHOO!!
One side effect of this is that the apps are not in the same screen order as before... but that is either my fault or a very very small price to pay
So this method works but you have to have the guts to click ok
Also, be careful of your voice memos - I'm not sure if the instructions here cover those but they are not paid content so I would make sure you use something like http://www.macroplant.com/phonedisk/ to back them up.

If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document: iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards). This is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit core application, the same as all previous 64-bit releases of iTunes, which may well work better with third party tools expecting to see the 32-bit iTunes executable.
