My play lists and songs on iTunes and on my iPhone won't play.  They are light grey instead of black and nothing happens when I click on the songs.  All of the songs were either from CD's or from iTunes that I purchased. I have home sharing turned on. This is a new issue.  It used to work fine.  I tried restarting my iPhone and syncing with iTunes. Neither worked.  Please help!

Try delete those songs using iTunes by de-selecting and sync. After that mark those songs and sync again.

  • I rented a movie through iTunes and it downloaded but won't play.

I rented a movie through iTunes and it downloaded but won't play. It is present in the videos app but doesn't load the picture for the movie. When I go to play it, it just opens and then closes. There is an iCloud icon that suggests the movie has not Been downloaded and when I click it it says that the movie has already been rented but not downloaded and that I need to go to downloads to manage it. It is not present in my iTunes download page however. And when I go to rent it again all I get is a watch button that directs me back to the videos app with no way to watch it.

    Hi Refvoxa,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you are not able to play or download a movie rental on your iPad, first restart your device:
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

After your iPad restarts, try resuming the download again:
If your download was interrupted using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes app.
For iPhone or iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password if prompted.
Tap the blue download arrow to resume.

  • When I connect my shuffle to iTunes on my pc it won't play music. Please help

Hi there, When I connect my shuffle to iTunes on my pc it won't play music. Please help

Except for the first shuffle model, the shuffle connects to the computer using the headphones jack, so there is no way to play it when it is connected to the computer.  I guess maybe I don't understand the question...

  • I rented a movie from itunes(The Untouchables), and it won't play. It lets me click on it but then is just black and won't play. I saw that I was billed for it. What should I do?

I rented a movie from itunes(The Untouchables), and it won't play. It lets me click on it but then is just black and won't play. I saw that I was billed for it. What should I do?

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • ITunes 7.7.1 won't play songs anymore.

Hi, I recently upgraded to iTunes version 7.7.1, and since the upgrade, iTunes
won't play songs anymore. If I select on a song in my library, the diamond stays
at the 0:00 mark. I have tried re-installing iTunes, with no luck. I am running
the software on a Mac Book Pro with the latest version of OS X (10.5.4).
    thank you.

Just start with a standard procedure: Run Disk Utility and fix permissions/repair disk

how can i get itunes to quit skipping to the currently playing song when i'm working on the library somewhere else?

You might be able to achieve what you want by using Party Shuffle. Set the source for Party Shuffle to be the playlist you want to listen to or add the tracks you want to listen to by control clicking on them and selecting Add to Party Shuffle. Once everything is in Party Shuffle, you can rearrange them to your satisfaction. As the songs are played, they'll roll off the queue. You can quit iTunes and even when you restart, all your songs will be there, in the order you want, waiting for you to hit play.

  • Imac won't play songs from my iPhone after I have authorised the computer

Imac won't play songs from my iPhone after I have authorised it

My solution was restoring my iPhone. Techs at Apple couldn't figure out why so I had to do a restore and worked after that. I know it's a pain and you have to reinstall all you stuff, but it worked for me. Hope this helps.

  • Itunes freezes on ipod, and won't play or update

I have the newest itouch, and it has frozen in the middle of playing (songs were on shuffle mode) and gotten stuck. The program appears to be frozen, as I can't switch tracks, and the itunes is stuck on the playlist page, and won't respond at all. I plugged the itouch back into my computer, but itunes is still stuck in the itouch, and I can't upload new music or unfreeze the itouch so it will play. Argh!
Any advice other than going back to the mac store?

    - See if resetting the iPod will either fix the problem or allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod.
    - Next see if placing the iPOd in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • Songs I downloaded onto my ipod have transferred to itunes on my laptop but won't play on my device.

Some songs I have purchased from itunes won't play on my ipod but work perfectly on my laptop. Even plugging my ipod into the laptop and syncing it hasn't worked, but the artwork and information for the song still exist on my device. Any ideas?

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Try deleting from iPod and directly redownloading by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Music bought from iTunes a few years ago won't play on iPhone 4s

I've found that certain tracks that I bought from iTunes a few years back, all protected MPEG-4 audio files, won't play on my iPhone 4s. They play fine in iTunes on my computer, but when the track comes up on my iPhone it will simply run through the time of the song but no music will play. In some cases, I've had two versions of a song by the same name and it played the wrong version of the song with the correct name and album cover.
I've tried resetting the phone, as well as taking all the music off of it and resyncing it. Nothing seems to work. Will restoring the phone really help? This problem first arose after I updated my iPhone to 5.1.1.

I bought an iPhone 5 and could not add music to it. Same problem: grey songs. After hours searching forums and blogs I found this solution. Works for me! Now I manually add songs using iTunes and no problem. Hope it helps.
    1. Download and install iExplorer http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/
    2. Plug in device first, then open iExplorer
    3. Delete the iPhone\Media\iTunes_Control folder (you may want to copy this, just in case)
    4. Restart the iPhone / iPad
    5. Start iTunes. Not restore iPhone from back up, select New iPhone (don't worry, you will not lost apps or data on your iPhone doing this)
    6. Add music manually with iTunes

  • Some of my songs in iTunes show up but they won't play. I get the message that my computer isn't authorized to play them when I only have one computer.

I recently did the update for iTunes and after I did that I got the error message: MSVCR80.dll file not found.  I followed the suggestions from someone in this community to fix it and now some of my songs aren't playing.  And they are the ones that I purchased from iTunes not CDs that I have and ripped to my iTunes library. I can see the songs listed in my iTunes library as well as on my iPod but yet they won't play.  On my computer I get the message that this computer is unauthorized to play them and to authorize it.  I only have one computer, so I have no idea why I'm getting this message.  And does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get all of the iTunes songs to play again?

    Hello Angel82co,
It sounds like you have some songs in your library that are not playing, and when you try to play them you are being told the computer is not authorized to play them. I would start by verifying that your computer is still authorized, and take note of the Apple ID that you sign in with:
To authorize a computer, follow these steps:
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Authorize This Computer from the menu bar.
You may need to show the menu bar to see this option in Windows. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can access this option from the Advanced menu.
Enter your Apple ID and click Authorize.
If your Apple ID uses an expired MobileMe account, you can still authorize your computer.
From: iTunes Store: Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
If the issue persists, next I would use the following article to double check that these songs were purchased under the same Apple ID you used to authorize the computer:
Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1920
    Open iTunes
Highlight one of the items you have purchased (You can find your purchases in your Purchases playlist).
    Choose File > Get Info.
    Click the Summary tab.
The Account Name area will list the account used to purchase the item. Unless you have changed accounts, this is your iTunes Store account name.
If it is the same Apple ID then I would next delete the song, and re download it from your purchased history, with this article named:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12491
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • I previoulsy have adding many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. And I could the CDs in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music but won't play it. Why

I have added many CD to my iTunes music library and then synched them with my iPhone so that I have all music in both places. Then I could the play them in iTunes or iPhone with no problems. Recently, my iTunes "sees" the music library but won't play any of it becuase "the original could not be found". If I attach my iPhone, then it pays them through the iPhone, but still not through the library in iTunes. How can I get the music library on my iPhone to transfer (i.e. restore it) to iTunes? I have iPhone 4S but have not upgraded to the iOS 6, and have not had any problems until last week.  Help!  Thanks.

Check the manual for whatever backup program you used, or, if you just copied the files over, copy them that.
How to restore data to your PC is outside the scope of these forums.

  • ITunes 9 - Getting Started video won't play

iTunes 9 installation was smoothly and quickly, however:
While the "Welcome to iTunes" startup window opens properly but"Getting Started with iTunes 9" movie won't fully load or play.
This first tutorial movie on the "Welcome" list only plays the first couple of minutes and stops. Close Window and/or Quit/Restart iTunes relaunches "Welcome" and "Getting Started" but the movie still won't play.
I also have the latest version of QuickTime (v7.6.4, downloaded this morning) installed under Mac OS 10.5.8.

Immediately after installing iTunes 9.0 and Opening iTunes, the 'Getting Started' folder popped up in front of the iTunes window. I wanted to 'look around' at iTunes first, so Closed the Getting Started window. Now that I'm ready to watch those videos, I can no longer FIND that folder or the videos. Anyone know what happens to them once they've been Closed? Thanks...

  • ITunes won't play songs

    Hi there,
I am new to this forum, so my apologies.
I recently re-installed my Vista system and I just installed iTunes version 7.3.2 and for some reason, none of the songs in the library or the playlists I have created are playing.
I synced with my iPod just fine, but nothing seems to play in the player itself. I haven't gone back to any previous versions yet, because I couldn't find it on the iTunes site, but I will google it if I have to.
Has anyone heard of iTunes not playing songs in their library or playlists?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm having the exact same error message (albeit for a different reason I think) so I really hope somone responds and can help us!
When I click on a song, I get the same error: "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Then when I click "Yes," it takes me to my iTunes folder, which has now for some reason been separated into two subfolders: "iTunes Music" and "Previous iTunes Libraries." It's as if all of my music imported prior to upgrading my iTunes (previous I had iTunes 4 or something ancient) has been moved into another folder. I've tried clicking all of the folders, but nothing makes the songs play.
Not sure if this could be related, but another recent issue is my external hard drive (where I copied my iTunes files from in the first place) has failed and is no longer being recognized by my computer.
Oh, and one more note...I read something in another post about deselecting the compatibility mode if you have problems post-upgrade, but I checked and it wasn't selected on my computer, so that's not it.
Hopefully between all these details someone can help both Peter and me discern the true problem - and the true solution! Thanks in advance for any and all help!
    Cheers,
    Amy
