New iTunes and Quicktime downloads

On my Windows 7 machine, I downloaded the new versions of iTunes and Quicktime, only to have my anti-virus scream that there was dropper.generic in the download.
Anyone else seen this? I'm loathe to let it go thru.

The free versions of AVG are currently reporting a false positive for QuickTime. The same set of AVG definitions is also taking out the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware security application. Here's some discussion of the issue from the AVG forums:

Back to square one: new iTunes and QuickTime CRASH, CRASH, CRASH
I've been struggling with iTunes and QuickTime ever since the upgrade to 6.0.4. Everything worked just fine until then, and has worked fine since I got my iPod last June.
A couple of days after the upgrade to 6.0.4 iTune started crashing, with the error message: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Please note this is only about using iTunes to play music on my computer (my iPod seems to be working fine.)
I've removed iTunes and QuickTime, reinstalled them, and this works for a couple of days, then iTunes starts crashing again (this has now happened twice.)
Strangely, this time, tunes in Party Shuffle at start up (from the last normal exit of iTunes) play just fine, but when I try to play something out of Library or swtich to a different genre or playlist in Party Shuffle, the programme crashes: iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I've tried opening QuickTime alone, and it fails to open (no error message) it gets as far as the player, then there's a windows "thunk" and QuickTime closes.
So now I will uninstall, reinstall (starting with QuickTime, which seems to be the real culprit here) and maybe it will work for a couple of days. Computers are supposed to save time, not take up time in this way.
I don't seen any sign or word of a new version of QuickTime with a fix to this problem (many seem to be having it). How long do I have to go on this way. Perhaps the best is just to use another Windows Media Player or Nero ShowTime ... these seem to function without any sort of problem.Thank you Katrina and MossMan,
I do keep my computer under pretty tight wraps: Outpost firewall, AVG anti-virus, MS Anti-spyware. Ran the Ewido scan as suggested, Ewido did find quite a few cookies it considered of medium threat spyware ... removed these, and this did not resolve the problem with iTunes/QuickTime. Anyway, I'm not sure that cookies can cause programmes to crash?
I still think that it's unlikely that the problem with iTunes and QuickTime starting right after the upgrade to iTunes 6.0.4 and its QuickTime counterpart, is just a coincidence.
And if QuickTime is particularly vulnerable to some malware that none of the security programmes on my machine can find, and malware that has no effect on any other programmes, including other media players, then maybe this vulnerablity should also be something Apple should try to address.

But why is Quicktime player still silent?Same here - Running Mirrored Dual Door Dual 1GHz - OS X 10.4.11 - Late last night updated to iTunes 8.2 and Quicktime (7.6?) and shut the computer down. When i rebooted before bed it was WAY slow starting up, but got past the spinning wheel to the progress bar. The progress bar then CREEPED across (crept) til it got to the end and then.... Nothing. Rebooted. Same thing. Booted from an alt disk partition I keep as a back up start-up. Repaired permissions and it DID note that the permissions on iTunes.app weren't correct. Now I'm going to go and try and reboot from the original drive. But it's got me flummoxed.

Itunes and quicktime downloads but wont open
Ok so the other day I turned my cumputer back on and when i turned my cumputer off itunes was working just fine.but when it i turned it back on it wasnt working. So i reinstalled quicktime because everytime i tried to open itunes it said quicktime needed to be installed. So i did so. well that didnt work so, then i uninstalled it all and put it all back on my computer. I have done this a bunch of times and wel its not working and i need itunes. SO PLEASE HELP ME.
compaq Windows XPI have error 2378.
I tried all the fixes (uninstal completely) I've tried installing Quicktime standalone, same error.
One day my computer installed some windows updates. next time i tried i tunes, it said it couldnt' find RICHED20.dll.
Tried removing the updates. then tried removing/reinstalling itunes. Everytime I try to run the install package I get "error with package 2378". I tried restoring my system to before the windows updates. No luck.

Hi . Ever since I downloaded the last itunes and quicktime update ( a week or so ago), I can't access any movies or video podcasts i have store in itunes on my pc (vista). iTunes crashes and my error reports tell me it is a quicktime error. Do i uninstall and reinstall quicktime, or completely uninstall itunes and reinstall it -- if so, what will i lose? Help, please!

I just bought a new Iphone and when I connected it to itunes and I downloaded the backup from my last device, now I can't pass this step and every time I connect it to itunes is the same thing. And I can't download any app because problems with my account regarding the credit card but the information is correct and it says it is not!!!
You'll have to contact iTunes store support regarding your credit card information problem: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html. I'm not clear on what you're saying about your backup. Are you saying that when you connect to iTunes it's asking you to restore from backup even though you already have?

after this new itunes and ios7 update all my music is off my ipod touch unless i download them one artist at a time, i have over 3500 songs in there. really? is there no easier way to get my music back into my ipod? like a download all button? thanks.
thanks for the reply. guess i'll have to do that. apple, not really happy with what you've done with this latest update. have not been able to enjoy my music in my car since the update. most of us dont mind changes that progress timely, but this was much more than just a progression. this was a complete change. and not a good one, at all. thanks to the two people that replied. appreciate it.

I Just got a new labtop and already downloaded itunes onto it, but how do i get all my music onto my new computer?
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder form your old computer to /Music/ on your new computer.
FYI: It's a laptop because it sets on top of your lap.

You did a d/l of the iTunes .dmg - did you install by opening the .dmg and following the dialogs?

I have a 3G iphone. I just tried to download the new itunes and lost all my itunes I had. I tried to transfer them from my computer but can't. How can I and what do I do to get the ones I bought before and now have lost.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod/iphone/ipad: File>Transfer Purchases -
Videos will not play after downloading the mmost recent versions of Itunes and Quicktime. What can I do? The video tries to start but freezes and does not respond.
Appreciate the suggestion. I did the repair, but videos still don't play.
I tried putting quicktime in "safe mode", but that also did not solve the video-play problem.
However, I downloaded a video and that video does play.
A video may start but quickly freezes.
In itunes is the player "quicktime or itunes"?
When I open the quicktime player(its appearance doesn't look like a player with controls for play, pause, etc.).
Maybe the controls appear when play begins' however, then I try to open any song of video, I always get the same message: "Do you want to allow this website to open a program on your computer(in itunes, I assume).)
If i choose "yes" I get an error message.
I thought this additional information might be helpful, but you can just answer the original question if you have some additional ideas.

So I download the new iTunes and now...
So I download the new iTunes and now if I go to the iTunes store, I can't seem to get back to my music. Does anyone know how to do this without having to close iTunes and re-open it - which is a silly way to have to do things. Has anyone else noticed that the more successful Apple gets, the harder it is to follow the logic of their software? Is it all the new developers who have forgotten how to write stuff that people over 25 years old used to use Mac? It is driving me mildly crazy.
Yes at the top right is a button labelled Library. This will close Itunes Store and take you back to your music.
Sone other tips are
Enable the sidebar by view Show Sidebar - makes it more like itunes 10
Enable Staus Bar to see inf about your songs etc at the bottom -
My computer has totally crashed with my latest itunes library. I have a new computer and on downloading itunes my library automatically populated but there are hundreds of songs missing and multiple duplicates. So now my itouch is up to date but my itunes library has regressed to an earlier version so if I sync I will lose hundreds of songs from my itouch is there any way to sync my itouch to my itunes library?
