New itunes install, reopens while I browse files.

Whenever I use windows explorer (My Computer, etc) to open the itunes install directory, or the itunes media folder, iTunes opens.  then, as longas I have one of those folders open to browse, itunes will restart every time I close it.
I have disabled wi-fi syncing, home sharing, and I don't see any icould stuff.
I would already have opted to never use the program again, but I have an iphone to sync.
Thanks for any help is resolving that outrageous behavior.  I do not want itunes to be away of what folders I'm accessing with other programs, it's absurd.

Thanks for the tip,  some searching at logitech solved the problem in my case.
1) Exit Logitech Gaming Software
2) Exit iTunes (terminate it if you have to)
3) Go to your "C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\Applets" folder and rename the "LCDMedia.exe" program to something else (so it doesn't run)
I renamed mine "Disabled - LCDMedia.exe," and now my keyboard is working and not launching iTunes unexpectedly.
This means the media display function of the keyboard LCD is no longer available, but that isn't anything I personally care about.

  • How to get existing library imported to new itunes install, old library was  not backed up or exported

How to get existing library imported to new itunes install, old library was not backed up or exported.  This occured due to Win 7 user profile was corrupt.

I know that in Mac OS X one can pick which library to use by holding down the option key while starting iTunes. What's the Windows equivalent?
    Press the Shift key.
WIll the fact that the music is now on another physical drive make a difference
    No.
I know the previous install is at least 7.0, but I have no idea about which point release.
Try checking the content of the iTunes Music Library.xml file.
Finally, what's the expected behaviour (or required procedure) with respect to reauthorization of this computer to use the same ITMS-purchased files?
You will be asked to reauthorize the computer.

  • Transferring albumn artwork/song ratings etc to new itunes install

I have windows XP installed on one HD and Vista installed on another HD on the same PC. I have spent a lot of time getting the album artwork, rating the songs etc on the XP iTunes install. I recently upgraded my ram and can now use Vista w/o Lag and I want to find a way to transfer all the settings to my new iTunes install on Vista.
All the music is stored locally on a 3rd HD on my pc so I don't need help transferring my library (I saw a LOT of posts about that topic, so I'm just being clear that I don't need help with that).
Also my iPhone is synched with the iTunes/XP and I don't want it to erase everything off the phone if I synch it with the Vista/iTunes.. I have authorized the new iTunes.. just wondering if that is good enough or if there's anything else I need to do to ensure I can synch to both versions of iTunes w/o a problem.

You need to put your iPod in automatic sync mode and they will transfer automatically.
You can't do it if you are in manual update mode.

  • I keep getting an error code while trying to import a cd to my itunes: Error occurred while converting the file. The disc you are attempting to use is full. removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space.  What does this mean?

I keep getting this error code while trying to import a cd to my itunes: "Error occurred while converting the file. The disc you are attempting to use is full. removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space."  What does this mean?

Well it probably means exactly what it says... How much free space is there on your hard drive where the iTunes Media folder resides? I believe there is also an obscure bug that can occur when software doesn't read the true value of the free space properly, and the workaround is, perversely, to duplicate some content so that with less actual free space the software in question perceives it as more. I've no idea if iTunes is affected by such a bug.

  • Can't sync iPhone because new iTunes install is not 64 Bit.

The error message is: "this iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64-bit version of itunes.".
I've browsed a few forum posts, but this is a brand new computer, and I'm shocked that the itunes installation doesn't work.
    steps:
    1. I'm downloading itunes64Setup.exe, and running the installation.
    2. I plug in my iPhone. I get the message. "this iphone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64-bit version of itunes.".
How is this possible? it's a brand new installation? It starts by trying to install the files into C:\program files (x86)\itunes, not C:\program files\itunes, but when I run the installation, I see files in both locations.
    How do I fix this?

Yeah, I have the same problem. Supposedly you access devices by clicking on the little iPhone icon - except there is no little icon when my iPhone and/or iPad are connected:
View your iOS device by clicking on the iOS device icon in the upper-left corner.

  • How to get new iTunes install to recognize library stored on External drive

iTunes was installed on Computer Alpha. Library was kept in external hard drive (External). The library on External was not a backup; it was the primary, one and only library used by iTunes on Alpha. All music purchased from iTunes Store downloaded directly into the library on External. Hard drive on Alpha was too small to contain the library.
Alpha died. Kaput. No chance of opening iTunes on Alpha any more.
New computer acquired, Computer Bravo. Windows 7. iTunes 9.2.1.5 for Windows downloaded/installed on Bravo. Bravo is authorized.
External connected to Bravo via USB. Windows explorer, viewed on Bravo, indicates the Library on External is still in place.
iTunes opened on Bravo. iTunes finds three music files on Bravo hard drive and adds them to the "music" view of iTunes.
I go to Edit/Preferences/Advanced and change the iTunes library location to Extenal/iTunes_library. Save.
Nothing happens. I can't get iTunes to load the "music" list in iTunes with the songs contained in Extenal/iTunes_library file.
iTunes closed. I hold shift key and open iTunes, thereby prompting the "choose library" dialog. In the dialog, I select "choose library" and once again select the External/iTunes_library directory, but when that directory is chosen, all the individual files within the library are displayed, and the dialog is waiting for me to choose one of the hundreds of individual files within the Extenal/iTunes_library file. None of those files is the library; only the entire collection of them together is the library, yet the dialog will not permit me to select External/iTunes_library file in its entirety as the library. I abandon the dialog.
iTunes uninstalled from Bravo. Wondering what to do next.

    Chris CA wrote:
You mean the *iTunes media folder* was kept on the external.
Yes, I believe you are correct, and that I used the wrong terminology. By "library," I was referring only to the directory on External where the actual .mp4 music files are stored.
The iTunes library consists of the iTunes folder (default in \Music\iTunes\
and all contents as well as everything in iTunes.
So, in my case above, it seems you are saying that "library" ought to refer to the following:
    1. The c\my music\iTunes directory and all its component files on the Alpha hard drive, AND
    2. the iTunesmusicfiles directory on External
    Is that correct?
If yes, then I am left scratching my head about something:
Before Alpha died, I went to Edit/Preferences/Advanced and, in the window where iTunes asks me to specify the location of my iTunes LIBRARY, I specified External\iTunesmusicfiles.
And it worked. Thus, I am left with the impression that "library" is a term referring only to the directory where the actual .mp4 files are stored. (Thus, iTunes itself provided a very good reason for me to think of the "library" in this limited, incorrect, way).
If I understand you correctly, the reason why that maneuver worked is because of the presence of the library.itl file that was located in Alpha\c\my music\iTunes, and because the .itl file was populated with some kind of data specific to the contents of External\iTunesmusicfiles, and because the contents of the .itl file pre-dated the transfer of the iTunesmusicfiles directory to External. And that every time a subsequent change occurred in External\iTunesmusicfiles such as the addition of a new music file via iTunes purchase/download, a concomitant change occurred in the .itl file on Alpha, thereby keeping the iTunes player on Alpha synced up with the warehouse of music over there on External.
Do I have it right so far?
Now, with Bravo, I am trying to establish the same setup I had on Alpha. And because Alpha is dead, I need to attempt this using a fresh installation of iTunes on Bravo. And a fresh installation of iTunes on Bravo means a virgin .itl file on Bravo.
Again, if I understand you correctly, you're saying that if iTunes on Bravo is going to work just like iTunes on Alpha did, then the .itl file on Bravo must contain the same data that the .itl file on Alpha did.
To accomplish this, I have two options:
    1. Obtain a copy of the .itl file from Alpha and transfer it to the same directory location on Bravo
    2. Build the .itl file on Bravo manually.
Again, am I getting this right?
If so, I don't think No. 1 above is an option. I'm left with No. 2.
If I have to click individually on all the files in External\iTunesMusicFiles, I guess I can deal with that. Not a huge problem. But what I want to prevent is transferring the .mp4 files to the Bravo hard drive. I want only one copy of each .mp4, and I want each of those .mp4s to reside on External, not on Bravo.
    Doable?
Thanks to all who have taken time to respond to my issue. I do appreciate it.

  • New Itunes install lost all my addresses in my address book

I installed the new Itunes update and now i have lost all of my addresses in my outlook address book and none of my calendars are syncing.  Help!!

There are three "Library" folders on your Mac. One in System, One in the root (Macintosh HD), and one in each user folder. You need the one in your user home. You can get there by holding down the option key and selecting Library from the Go menu in Finder. Or, you can select Go To Folder from the Go menu and type ~/Library in the dialog box that pops up (you can do this in Time Machine, also).
Even though those are vCards inside, Contacts doesn't see them as vCards since they don't have a .vcf file extension. However, there's a better way.
If you've found the files, you've also found the AddressBook folder.
Replace the AddressBook folder that is in your username/Library/Application Support/ folder with the one in your Backup. Start Contacts.

  • New iTunes installed, will it wipe out my iTouch songs when i sync??

my hard drive failed so i have to re-install iTunes. when i plug my iTouch in to the new iTunes will iTunes wipe out everything on my iTouch??? how can i get everything from my iTouch into iTunes???

"when i plug my iTouch in to the new iTunes will iTunes wipe out everything on my iTouch??"
    Yes.
"how can i get everything from my iTouch into iTunes???"
You can transfer itunes purchases: Without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases
You should really use your backup copy to put everything back on the computer. This is one of the many reasons that maintaining a backup is basic.

  • How do you sync an existing iPhone to a new iTunes install?

I had to reformat my MBP to remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard, but now I have a question with iTunes.
I loaded my whole library of songs and apps into the new install of iTunes, but now I need to sync my iPhone 4 and iTunes is trying to overwrite ALL of my apps and their data. I don't want to loose any apps or data that is on the iPhone. So how can I sync my phone again without having the new iTunes overwrite the iPhone? I need iTunes to copy down what is on the phone FIRST and then sync. Not try to overwrite the iPhone.
    Thanks

    Ok I did all that.
However, when I got back into the iPhone settings, the Apps Tab, "Sync Apps" is still not checked. When I click on it, I get the same warning message that it will erase all apps and data on the iPhone. Is it really going to do that or will it load all my saved data from when I did "Transfer Purchases"?
I think all the apps will load back fine, but I don't want to loose all the data associated with all the apps and games.
    Thanks again!

  • New iTunes 9 folder organization left many files untouched

So I ran the new iTunes 9 "organize library" command. And it created folders labels "Podcasts", "Movies", "Music", "Audiobooks", etc. And it moved and sorted most of my 220GB of files into the correct folders.
But it also left about 250 folders of music completely untouched. Why didn't it put them into the correct media folder?

Oh, I think I just figured it out. I tried importing the songs that were left behind (e.g., the stragglers that weren't filed into the iTunes Media Organization folders) and they didn't import. Instead, iTunes put them into a "Not Imported" folder. When I tried to play them, they wouldn't play. So I guess they are corrupt files or otherwise unplayable. Makes sense that iTunes wouldn't import them into the iTunes Media Organization scheme.

  • My Itunes is skipping while I browse the internet

My Itunes is skipping while I am on my PC and attempting to browse the internet at the same time.  Any suggestions?

This seems to be a very common problem after upgrading to iTunes 7. Apple offer this help on troubleshooting the problem:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610
Some people, like me, never completely resolve the problem. I got rid of most of the stuttering except when a large program was loading by following the above advice.
In the end I downgraded back to 6, but this is only possible if you have an iPod that is OK on 6 and you don't want the content offered on V7.

  • Resynch with new itunes install

I lost the Windows XP hard drive I had itunes installed in.  I have an iPod (fifth gen) that has all my music, but also need to resynch with my iPhone 4s and iPad2.  When I connect to iTunes (new HD, completely new install), it says I have my devices sysnch to another library, erase and resychnc NO!!!!
How do I get my devices into a new install of iTunes
(and no... my backup was NO GOOD).
    Thanks
    John Z.

    Welcome to the discussions,
Make sure your computer is authorized in itunes, disable autosync in itunes, connect your phone, right click on it in the device list and choose "transfer purchases". Back up manually the same way choosing "backup". See what's included in a backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
When you sync for the first time, all media content will be erased from your phone. You can restore from your manual backup afterwards. Make sure to have at least one contact and event set up on your computer to be able to merge your data during the first sync.

  • Itunes Error occured while converting this file An unknown error occured (-11828)

So I'm trying to convert a movie for my ipod because it would not accept the current version but I go and try to convert it to an iphone or ipod version and it gives me this error "Error occured while converting this file An unknown error occured (-11828)" Any ideas?

    Hi, LongIsland14.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
This issue would be related to a permission issue most likely with the iTunes Media folder.  Here are a couple articles that will help you troubleshoot this issue.

  • My ipod w/ clickwheel does not link after new iTunes install using dock

I have had this ipod for 5 1/2 years without problems; it even holds a good battery charge. After updating to the new iTunes, now for some reason my ipod will not be recognized when I plug the ipod into the dock that came along with this computer (this is when connected to the firewire 400 port on my iMac G5). There was no problems in the past and I only experienced this after updating to the new iTunes. Anyone else had this problem?

I really think this was just a problem with the new iTunes. After the update I did not experience this problem any longer.

  • New iTunes Install.  Must I Now Import Music Files?  Or Does iTunes Include Them Automatically?

I have just installed iTunes on my new computer.  All of my iTunes music files are on my hard disk.  Do I have to take some kind of affirmative action to "connect up" my music files to iTunes?  I don't seem to be able to access any of my music files with iTunes.  Do I have to import all of my music files into my iTunes library before I can listen to the music?  I know this sounds like a dumb question, and I suspect the answer is, "Of course, stupid," but I want some confirmation of what I should do at this point before going ahead.  Anyone?

I previously had my entire iTunes library on another computer, along with (of course) iTunes as well.  I could happily listen to all the music I wanted with a huge library to select from.  All was well.  Then my computer died.  Fortunately, I had everything backed up - in Carbonite, actually.  I got a new computer last week and recovered all of my data files (including my iTunes music files), which are now on the hard drive of my new computer.
Then I downloaded iTunes onto my new computer, thinking that, somehow, iTunes would "reach out" and grab all of my iTunes music files, without my having to do anything.  I don't think it works that way, right?  I think I have to import all of my music files into the newly installed version of iTunes, before I will be able to access those files through iTunes.
    Is this correct?
(I still have the first computer, but I am unable to boot it up.  Since I have recovered all of my music files through Carbonite, I don't see the first computer as an issue, right?)
