New iTunes Movies Won't Play in Front Row

I have tried contacting support and the local store but all I have found out is that Frontrow isn't supported anymore though lack of interest.
I found that all my old movies still play in Frontrow but all but one of recent downloads from iTunes just plays audio with a black screen.
The Apple suggestion was to download a third party programme to replace Frontrow.
Apple mentioned XBMC and Plex appears to be an alternative.
I haven't tried any alternatives and would be interested to know if anyone uses these and if they are easy to use without being a computer programmer. Also do they work with the white remote?
New iMacs don't even come with a remote.
I mainly use my iMac as a multimedia centre and was building up an iTunes movies folder, even though the movies can be more expensive.
The recent movies still play directly from iTunes but having to start the movie from the iMac seems a really backwards step.
Support claim that my problem is uncommon and they don't have a fix.
I am using Snow Leopard. By the way Lion doesn't even include Frontrow.
This appears to be really stupid of Apple and has stopped me buying movies from iTunes. One of the features that set iMacs apart from PC's is their out of the box setup with remote access to your media.
Get your act together Apple and fix this problem!

I was annoyed when I saw that Apple killed support for FrontRow too. I'm not sure why they would do this, I liked to use it all of the time.
Plex and XBMC are certainly good alternatives and is probably what you'll want to use to replace FrontRow. (Plex would be my first choice:) )
Another suggestion might be to get an Apple TV to solve this issue. I'm assuming you used FrontRow while your computer was connected to a TV or monitor. An Apple TV has the same sort of interface as FrontRow and would surely play your iTunes Movies.
I kinda hope they bring it back in the future :/

Surely I cannot be the only person who would like to watch a rented iTunes movie on my computer using Front Row?
My iTunes library is on an external drive and when I open and browse Front Row, everything BUT the rented movies appear in my movie list. Purchased movies are there, video podcasts are there, home movies are there, just not the rented ones. Why is that?
I don't have an Apple TV, just a laptop an external drive and a desire to watch rented movies through an application designed to play ALL my media, not just select media.
And I haven't seen any info on Apple's website to indicate that rentals would not work with Front Row. And I do have all the latest Apple software updates.

Front Row in Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard) has access to your iTunes and iPhoto libraries without launching those applications. You're right, rented moves don't appear in Front Row and there have been a couple of Front Row updates since rented moves became available. The only thing I can think of is that the rental terms can't be enforced when the movie is played in Front Row instead of iTunes. For example, Front Row's access to your iTunes library is really read-only. You can't delete files, apply ratings or change any other settings on the files in your library through Front Row. I think the way iTunes handles rental movies, the file has to be updated with some kind of tag when you start to play it so iTunes knows how much longer you have to finish playing it. So, it's doubtful Front Row will be able to do this. I don't think Apple has ever made a statement one way or the other about this, it's just my opinion.

I recently ran out of hard drive space on my macbook pro so I decided to move my iTunes library to an external hard drive to make space. Since doing so the movies that I bought on Itunes won't play. Everything else is fine. The music plays but the TV shows and movies won't play. There was an error message the first time that I tried to play it but I have never seen it again and I didn't write it down. Something about a file missing. Has anyone successfully fixed a similar problem?

iTunes prefs - Reset warnings.
Double click a movie to play it.
When it comes up and asks if you want to locate it, click Yes, then go to /iTunes/iTunes media/Movies on the external and find the movie.

ITunes Movie won't Play on iPad

I have the iPad Wi-Fi + 3G 64GB
When Star Trek came out on DVD, I bought the Blu-ray 3-Disc copy that had a free Digital Copy download from iTunes.
This copy would play on my Apple TV, but not my iPhone... Now I have loaded it to my new iPad, and it won't play on it. It tells me it can't be played on this device.
Can anyone help me out here?

That's correct for me - It syncs just fine. I can even open the main movie menu on the ipad, see all the movie info, chapters, and everything. Just when I go to play it I get the error "This movie could not be played". I had a similar problem with Wall-E (bought directly from itunes store - not blu ray digital copy). But for whatever reason, that issue resolved itself. Princess and the Frog is locked down, though. I've tried resyncing, syncing manually versus automatically, etc. No Luck. This movie plays fine though itunes on my TV.
Any thoughts?

Fixed. Deauthorized and reauthorized my computer, plus fiddled with where the files were stored. Something worked. Whew.

I am having trouble playing a movie on apple tv that i purchased on my ipad

Ok nw the rented film is on the iPad which won't play and when I looked at the Mac I was greeted with an error message saying that the film could nt be transferred because the file had already been transferred somewhere else! Thing is I can see it on theioad and the Mac still!
Obviously the film Kees checking where it as you can't watch it in two places at the same time. I can understand that but I knw it's not anywhere else.
The only thing I can think of is if when time machine backs it up it thinks it's being watched!
Any ideas anyone?

DVD won't play in front row or dvd player

After installing vlc player, i can watch dvd on the vlc, but front row and idvd player won't play them any more.

I have three movies that we're purchased through my iTunes account, but they're not actually downloaded on my phone, they're over iCloud, so they should play over wifi. I went to watch one of them, and at first the movie window popped up and then went back to my page of movies. I tried it again today and it does the same thing, but a little window pops up and says "Operation Stopped. The server is not configured correctly." Any ideas?

I'm sorry to hear you are having movie issues with your iPhone. If you are having playback issues on your iPhone for movies purchased on your iTunes Store account elsewhere, you may want to make sure you are redownloading your previous purchase to your iPhone as outlined in the following article:

ITunes Error: Cannot play bought iTunes movie from one day to the other "The selected movie won't play on your display."

just a few weeks ago I watched on my new iMac 5k Retina a long-ago-downloaded movie (iTunes content, HD, Billy Joel. Live at Shea Stadium). I had no issues watching it on the new wonderful display just a few weeks ago!
Today I wanted to resume the video and got the error "The selected movie won’t play on your display. This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection).".
Actually the movie plays for a few seconds and then the movie window gets black and the error message appears. Restarting iTunes does not help. Restarting the Mac also not.
How can this be fixed?
Additionally I get since I moved from my old iMac to the new one the iTunes error "Do you want the application “iTunes.app” to accept incoming network connections?" every time I start iTunes.

Movie won't play in or outside of itunes

I recently purchased Marvel's Avengers. The movie won't play in itunes or in any other program. I've tried deleting and re-downloading it. I don't get an error message, I just click play and nothing happens.
Sometimes it will flash the pause button briefly, but then it goes back to the play button, and the movie doesn't start.

Mp4 file is bugged? Won't add to iTunes and won't play.

I just downloaded the Lord of the Rings extended trilogy on bluray with a redemption code I got in the box set I got for christmas. They worked fine, until, while changing the album name of the three movies, the return of the king, while trying to change the album artwork, iTunes went into Not Responding mode, and I force quit it. When I came back, I couldn't play the movie, change it's artwork or anything, so I deleted it from my library and tried to reload it back in with the file in my iTunes folder. But not only would the movie not add to iTunes, it won't play in Quicktime or VLC, and when I tried running it through Handbrake it wouldn't work. Has anyone experienced this, and if so, how did you fix this? Thanks.

Selected movie won't play SOLVED

I had this problem trying to play a rented movie. Got the message The selected movie won't play on one of your connected displays. My problem was with a software which is made by INFOCUS for their projector. I removed it and now the movie plays even on the projector and without the software. I have seen that solution in this forum elsewhere.

Please note that to be able to play your purchased HD movies or videos, let us not forget some minor details. Ensure that your iTunes software is up-to-date. HD videos will only play if you have iTunes 10.6 or later as described in this article:
