New Itunes/Quicktime Download Issues - Help!

I had gotten a automatic notice to upgrade Quicktime and Itunes, whioh I did. Needed to update anyway as I want to upgrade my Iphone. Now when I try to launch iTunes it tells me I have a Quicktime Issue and it will not open Itunes. After reading the help index, which tells you to remove Quicktime and reinstall and try again, I get the same error message. Now, it tells me to remove Itunes and reinstall? If I do that what happens to my music, images, etc? Do I lose anything or do I need a specific process to ensure I don't loose anything?
I have 75% backed up but without access to Itunes I cannot backup the remaining 25% before I try this removal and reinstall thing.
FYI- I am running XP. Any thougths, anyone...
Thanks

You will need to Upgrade to Snow Leopard to get a Compatible version of iTunes to Sync your Device.
    Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
    Snow Leopard Tech Specs

If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...

After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

Ok i needed to flush my computer because i had a virus and i had to delete all my music is there a way i can get the library from my ipod onto the new itunes i downloaded because i dont want to have to download all the songs again

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

After waiting 27 minutes while the new iTunes supposedly downloaded onto my computer, the Finder window did not appear, and the iTunes.mpkg icon didn't appear on my desktop (where downloads usually go).  I also looked for the new iTunes by clicking on my Hard Drive icon but didn't see it there either.  I only see the icon for the old iTunes.  What do I do?

The exclamation mark means that the app has lost the link to the actual file.
First step: try and make sure the iPhoto Library is working correctly:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Itunes wont download properly, help?

When i download itunes it downloads most of it but it stops near the end and comes up with something saying "service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." When i click ignore, it tells me that itunes hasn't downloaded properly so I can't use it. If i click retry it just comes up with it.. should i click abort or is that not going to help? if not, any other ideas?

Nothing in the OP indicates a downloading problem, instead it indicates an installation problem.
If help is truly desired, detail the actual problem instead of making up non-existent issues.

  • New iTunes U Downloads not showing up correctly

I happily started trying to use the new iTunes U app today, but I'm getting frustrated.
When I open the app and go into the online catalog, I can select a course lecture to download. When I download it, however, it gets shunted to the iPhone Music app, rather than the shelves of the iTunes U app library. Actually, that's not entirely accurate. When I downloaded the first lecture from the Yale Game Theory course, it appeared in the iTunes U app, but every subsequent download has gone to the Music app alone. I have restarted the phone, deleted and redownloaded the app, and wiped all the previously stored lectures off my device. Nothing seems to work.
    Any ideas?

You now download them directly to the iTunes U app. As of iOS 6 (I think) it has become more self contained and doesn't require interaaction with the Music or Video apps.It is also subscription based.

  • Can't Update to the new Itunes+Quicktime package

I am trying to update to the new Itunes 10 + Quicktime package. The problem seems to lie with Quicktime. It fails every time. I tried to uninstall it, and it says "another installation is in progress" blah blah blah. This is even when I have just restarted my computer and have done nothing else. I followed the Apple troubleshoot which said to delete temp files, which I did and it still failed at installing. I'm not sure what else to do. I'm afraid to uninstall Itunes because I don't know if this has an effect on my music (will I lose it?)
Anyway, someone please help me I just got a new Ipod touch, and I want to use it and this is so frustrating!!
    Thanks,
    Allison

I get the same error message when I attempt to uninstall it "another program is being installed. Please wait until that installation is complete and then try installing this software again."
Okay ... checking on something else you said earlier:
Also, I checked on Windows Installer and it is running.
Actually, that one shouldn't be running if an install is not currently taking place. So let's check on Services.
In your Start Menu, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services and Applications".
Open "Services". Maximise the Window to see what is going on.
If the Windows Installer Service is running, stop the service.
Now right-click on the Service and select "Properties". In the general tab, make sure that "Startup type" is set to "Manual". OK out of the tab.
Restart the PC and try another install ... any better luck this time?

  • ITunes Plus Download Issue

I paid to upgrade my entire iTunes library (all that qualified for an upgrade) last week. It came out to a little over 1000 songs. I successfully downloaded around 700 of the songs - each time I would check for downloads it would fetch either 125 or 250 at a time.
All of a sudden the iTunes store has gotten stuck in that I can not continue to download the iTunes Plus upgrade songs. I can make new purchases - like individual songs or albums - and download them just fine. When I try to fetch the remaining iTunes Plus downloads I get the following error:
"Unable to check for available downloads. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again."
Obviously my connection is OK since I can still make new purchases. Also, my wife was able to upgrade her library to iTunes Plus just fine - on the same exact machine. Only my remaining iTunes Plus songs are "stuck."
    I found the link below:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1606154
It seems to be the same issue. I contacted iTunes technical support but they keep insisting it's a connection issue. Anyone know who to contact to get this fixed? It should be obvious that my connection works after all that I've described.
    Thanks

Thanks to the person who took the time to understand the posted question and provide a genuine answer - purchase an iTunes song using iTunes on my computer first, which forces iTunes to present the extended iTunes Plus agreement for you to accept, after which you can then sync the iPhone and it picks up the extended agreement and will then work properly to purchase and download iTunes Plus content.

  • No phone service after a new iTunes version is issued

I tried to use my phone yesterday and the call didn't go through. When I connected to my computer I saw that a new iTunes version (9.0.2.25) had been issued, and when I synched with iTunes it restored my connectivity. The same thing happened the previous time a new version was issued. There was no message on the phone saying it needed to connect to iTunes. I rely on the phone for continuous service in case of emergency, and don't sync it every day. If I were out of town I would be out of luck. Does Apple (or AT&T) de-activate the service each time a new version is issued, and rely on customers to re-sync when their phone goes dead?

I have not experienced the same - not with any iTunes update when released.

  • New computer/New Itunes having sync issues

I got a new computer and a new itunes acct.  It trys to access old email from original setup and new email from new itunes acct.  I cannot sync this without loosing everything.  It won't let me set up and iCloud acct either because its trying old account.
    ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT

everything purchased to old account belongs to old account only. See iTunes Terms of Service.
As far as icloud, you just need to deleted old and sign into new.

  • New ITunes 8 Download - Pink and Dark Gray Screen Numerous Issues

I went out today and purchased a new 16 MB Nano. When I hooked it up to my computer I was told I had to upgrade to Itunes 8. After I downloaded and restarted, I noticed the screen was a very dark gray and pink. It is so dark you cannot read any of the various menu options (where it shows playlists, stors, etc.) So that is one problem. The other problem is that I of course want to synch my playlist with my brand new ipod. A screen comes on that asks me if I want to register the Nano, which I assume is manditory before i can synch with my itunes. Anyway, there is no way to get to the button to register the nano. There is a button that says "Cancel" the registration on the left side of the screen, but there is no way to scroll or arrow over to the right side of the screen where the register button must be hiding. I am so frustrated. Why can't this **** be made simple and true plug and play for those of us who are technology challenged. Anyway, if anyone out there can help, it would be appreciated. I loved the look and feel of my last ITunes version and I hate that the upgrade has screwed that all up.

*When I hooked it up to my computer I was told I had to upgrade to Itunes 8. After I downloaded and restarted, I noticed the screen was a very dark gray and pink*
Try this solution which has been advised in many posts on this problem. Go to the Windows XP Start menu > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes (in Category view) > Display > Settings tab and make sure Colour Display is set at Highest (32 bit).
*there is no way to get to the button to register the nano.*
Try increasing your screen resolution to at least 1024x768 so you can see the whole page: iTunes window does not display all options

  • Latest Quicktime download issue

I just downloaded the latest Quicktime and iTunes upgrades, and now when I go to websites, e.g., Weather.com, I'm getting a Quicktime icon with a question mark through it -- where flash animations used to play. I've tried downloading a new Quicktime plugin and resetting my FlipforMac, but it didn't help. Anyone know what this is and how I can resolve it? Thanks!

    To Apple Discussions!
"I use the Firefox browser and tried the solutions you suggested with no change."
My instructions were for Safari not FireFox.
I also use FireFox & have no problems w/this latest update.
Which version of FireFox are you using?
Did you repair permissions prior to & after installing the update?
Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player Software.
Have you checked your QT MIME Settings?
