New iTunes/Quicktime slows down my computer

I'm working on a Powerbook G4 1.5ghz with 512 ram, running 10.3.9. Since installing it this afternoon, my system has noticeably slowed down, causing the spinning beach ball to come up more than often. Other applications are slower to load, and even some songs in iTunes have been involuntarily pausing while I scroll through my library. (and at the very least, scrolling through my library leads to a spinning ball). When's the patch coming out, Apple? And yes, I made sure to verify my disk permissions and restart my computer. (And don't get me started on how my Powerbook takes longer to start up now.)

Do you have a lot of temp files (each 15 Mo) created
by itunes on your "my music" folder on "my document"
on you c/ hard drive ? It appears in my case that my
computer is slow because for each song itunes created
theses files. I don't why and wait a reply (I post
another topic on this subject).
Like I posted before, this is almost always the result of your virus scanner. Those temp files happen because you virus scanner grabs the files before iTunes is done with them. Stop your virus scanner from scanning that directory or those files and your problem will go away.

  • Ipod shuffle dose not show up in itunes and slow down my computer

hi i can see my ipod shuffle in my computer as removeable hard drive not my ipod name anymore and also i can't see my ipod in itunes at all and every time i connect my ipod shuffle it slow down my computer (very slow) and use my CPU 100% all the time my other usb hard drive(not ipod) works fine its only my ipod i also try to use all my usb port but its still the same thing.
and it can't be my windows because i have just reinstall windows 3 days ago
can someone help me fix this

I think I can add a bit to this problem.
My iPod stopped working during the first use after running the iPod Updater 2005-11-17. When a button is pressed both green & amber lights up.
When plugged into my computer, iTunes (vs 6.0.1.3) does not recognize it is there. Naturally, I tried to run the updater again (2005-11-17 version) and the program hangs. It does not use up the cpu though (~3%). Eventually, after ~5-10 min the updater recognizes there is an iPod and then the restore button can be pressed. However, soon after the updater gives the error "Firmware update failure. Disk write error"
I reinstalled iTunes and the iPod updater as well as tried to use the new updater (2006-01-10) and same error. I am in the process of checking the drivers now. But I still don't know what is causing this error...

  • Itunes is slowing down my computer by writing ID3 tags

What are ID3 tags? Itunes seems to be slowing down my computer and is becoming very slow to respond to commands because it says that it's "writing ID3 tags". This just started yesterday. I've been using Itunes for a couple of months.

"hyjack".... a perfect word.... I can't operate any of my programs when it's writing these tags.
Mysteriously it stopped yesterday. There might be a correlation between me shutting my computer down - figuring it needed to reset. Yesterday Itunes was working perfectly.
So try the "old problem solver" ..shutting your computer down when you go to sleep.... a full rest....or shut it down for a full ten minutes. See if that works.

  • Why is the new ITune update slowing down my pc.

I recently updated ITunes...It now comes with a helper exe.  Why did this change...It has slowed down my pc something terrible... I am running Microsoft Windows 7 64 bit..and never had this problem before...
Seems I need the helper exe to access ITunes now...I do not like updates that decide what runs or doesn't run....Is there a solution to this. I have one apple product it is an IPad mini...If it wasn't for the fact that I have purchased music and apps.  It would end up in the garbage...That is how upset I am...
If this is a way for Apple to make me want to buy their products it will not work...
I have absolutely no problem with the ITune store on my IPad...just on on my desktop.

    Hi theresa62,
The resource below explains the processes that are involved with the iTunes software installed with Windows 7.  It's possible to use your iPad mini without the corresponding iTunes software on your Windows computer .... but it would limit what you can do with it.  You can't sync your iPad with your computer, use iCloud services, etc. without the software.  The choice is totally up to you.

  • Could itunes be slowing down my computer?

My Mac mini has been running sluggishly (taking time to respond to movements of the mouse & keyboard, etc). Someone suggested running the activity monitor in the hope of discovering what the problem could be. I've done so, and the only thing I notice is that when I'm playing music on itunes the %CPU stat is something like 50 or 60%. Is this normal? Could it be the source of the slow down? If so, what do I do about it?

I guess it depends upon what iTunes is doing.  The newer versions have become so bloated with Genius, Ping, iTunes Store, Match, etc.  My version 7.5 uses 6% of my dual CPU when playing music and I am running a 10 year old Mac.

  • Do I have go keep the music on iTunes once I have it on my iPhone as its slowing down my computer

Do I have go keep the music on iTunes once I have it on my iPhone as its slowing down my computer

    Realistically, yes.
If you delete the music from your iTunes, you will have to use Manually Manage for your phone in the future because a Sync will attempt to remove songs that you have removed from iTunes.
More importantly, if you ever need to Restore your phone, only media in your iTunes Library will be added to your phone. So if you delete the computer's Library, you will have lost all your music. There are several discussions in this forum from people who have done this and have now lost all their music.
There is no specific reason why the iTunes Library should slow down your computer. Are you sure it isn't something else that is causing the problem?

  • HT201272 Problem downloading an app in iTunes which I purchased through iPad mini. The iTunes try to download the app but it keeps freezing, not only the iTunes but slowing the whole computer.

purchased an app from iPad Mini for free, and then when I open iTunes in windows, it automatically try to download the app, and freezes.
I am not sure what is the problem behind, but the crashes certainly slows down my computer ( i7 quad core, with 3GB ram, after crashing it is slower than a P4 computer....)
Is it possible to Not Sync the app into itunes?

  • I have an older mac w/LION 10.7.5 - if I upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8, will it slow down my computer significantly?

I have an older IMAC - purchased in 2007. Works well. I have LION iOS 10.7.5 and want to upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8. Will it slow down my computer? If so, how much?

Be sure you can upgrade your iMac:
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks/Yosemite - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Yosemite
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later

             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • Compressor 4.1.2 slowing down my computer until it is unusable

    Hey all,
I'm using an iMac (specs below) and I have the latest versions of FCPX and Compressor (4.1.2). I've had a HUGE number of issues with the new Compressor update, specifically when it comes to 4K video. I'll take a project that is in 4K, OR that I shot in 4K and downscaled to 1080p by making the FCPX Project specs 1080p, then I "Send to Compressor."
Then I try to export from Compressor using default 1080p settings to my desktop.
Previous versions of Compressor would take their time  in giving me my final project, but would otherwise leave my computer unaffected. However, Compressor 4.1.2 is slowing down my computer to the point where it is unusable. Moving windows/folders around on the desktop takes forever to load. I can't browse the internet or do ANYTHING when Compressor is doing its thing now.
Interestingly, when I export using FCPX's "share" function, I have no problems.
Help! Is there anything I can do with Compressor to stop it from destroying my computer memory every time I export something in 1080p from 4K? Is anyone experiencing the same problems?
    Thanks!
    Specs:
iMac: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048MB

If you have system backups, you can probably restore to an earlier version. That would take care of your needs prospectively. Any libraries that had been updated, would;t open in an earlier version of FCP X. But of course, your master files could be used in both Final Cut and Compressor.
Also, send your results to Apple using the Provide Compressor Feedback link in the Compressor drop down menu.

  • Is my 23,000 song library slowing down my computer?

    Hi guys,
I have 23,000 songs on an external hard drive, and I wondered if iTunes writing the library file every once in a while, or any other cause, could be considerably slowing down my computer, why, and what I can do about it.
    Thanks!
    Alec

    Alec:
As I understand it, unless you were playing all your songs at once, your 23000 songs take up disk space, but don't slow down your computer. When you are running iTunes, importing music, or burning to CD iTunes will take up CPU capacity. You can watch the activity monitor and see how much of CPU capacity it takes up. If you don't find your computer underperforming in any way, you are fine. If you do, the cause is very likely elsewhere.
    Good luck.

  • Is it worthwhile to load windows 7 onto my MacBook Air? Will it slow down my computer?

Is it worthwhile to load windows 7 onto my MacBook Air? Will it slow down my computer? What might be the benefits of having windows and mavericks as two different operating systems side by side?

Check out this article first. It deals with BootCamp vs Parallels Desktop but there are two other products: VMWare Fusion and VirtualBox that offer the same basic features as Parallels. So your first decision is which you prefer. As I said, I chose virtualization: Parallels Desktop in particular.
You need a full retail version of Windows - If you live in the States try New Egg for the best price. This is what I bought. You'll need it whether you choose BootCamp or virtualization. Note that Win7 apparently isn't available via download from Microsoft any longer, only Win8 so you'll need access to an external optical drive or use remote dvd sharing with your Windows computer. I've not tried installing Windows using remote DVD sharing but I have installed other software that way so I'd expect it to work if you choose virtualization. If you choose BootCamp you'll need access to an external optical drive or create an ISO image of Windows on a large flash disk.

  • Music will slow down my computer?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro. On my old laptop (a MacBook from 4 years ago), the music slowed down my computer so much, to the extent that I had to get an external hard drive so that it would run at all. With the new MacBook Pro, I am debating whether or not to put my 14 GB of music onto the computer itself or to keep it on the external hard drive. Do they have more memory/a better system to hold large amounts of music and still run fast? Thoughts?

No it won't slow your computer, unless you are getting very low on hard drive space. In you case with a new computer it shouldn't be an issue.
