New job... old Outlook problem.
I have recently changed jobs, and the new place (like most companies) uses Outlook server for its mail and calendars. They issued me a Blackberry which works just fine, but I would much rather not have to switch between my iPhone (which is elegant and has everything else on it) and the BB (which talks to the office servers). I can get to the server using webmail, but would like to be able to have all my calendar data export out so that I can have one iCal file for my life and my office. Ideas? TIA

Contact your IT department and ask them if they allow external clients to access their system (ie can you connect your iPhone and your iCal and your Mac to their system). If they say yes then they can provide you the server information required for access.

New Computer OLD DW4 problem with site transfers specifically the templates
I'm running the ancient dreamweaver 4 (not cs4, the really old one!) and just got a new computer, the site I've been working on is saved on a flash drive on my USB port & I am able to open each page/file individually & they each look fine, BUT they are no longer attached to the template I created (although I can view them correctly!?!?) So now when I make a change to the template it doesn't prompt me to update all attached pages HELP Please!

Uh oh - no I'm confused. Are you saying that the pages are now updating properly?
Also, what OS is on your new computer?
Anyhow, here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
5. Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
7. Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather thanits *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done). If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DW) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you done any of those?

Time Machine and New Macbook, old iBook problem.
Hi there. I was using a G4 iBook until about 1 month ago. I had been backing it up with time machine. I then bought a new computer. Upon start up, I used time machine to move my applications and files over to the new Macbook. Everything has been dandy with the new Macbook.
Today I tried to back up the Macbook using time machine but it appeared to freeze about halfway through. I investigated the boards for advice. Since my iBook was a Power PC and the new Macbook is an Intel computer, I understand that I needed to reformat the external hard drive. Okay, I did that. I then tried to run a backup but it again froze, after only 60 MBs of 37 GBs. When I try opening the external hard drive I notice that it still refers to my computer as my iBook rather than the Macbook. Does this explain the problem and if so, how can I rename my computer to reflect the change? I don't get it.To the extent that Time Machine uses a computer's "name" in naming its backup files, that could be the explanation.
Have you renamed your MacBook to see if that helps? -
New Computer+Old iPod=Problems
I got an iPod touch about a month ago and synced it with my PowerBook G4. Then, my PowerBook completely crashed and I lost everything on it, so all I really have left are all the files on my iPod. Now I have a new computer, a MacBook Pro, and the only options it allows me when I plug in my iPod are to either delete everything existing on my old iPod and sync to my new iTunes (which means I would effectively lose everything I had left from my old computer) or it could add new files to my iPod, but I cannot transfer the songs already on my iPod to my new computer. I understand why they do this to avoid illegal file-sharing, but it doesn't seem quite fair when both computers belong to me, and one simply crashed (especially since it was a mac). Any tips on how I can put my old songs on my new computer? I don't want to lose everything!

Performed the below action but issue not resolved.
--Make sure that when creating the Environments for the Upgrade, that the correct ids and passwords have been entered. A userid and userid password plus the accessid and accessid password need to be entered. The connectid, many times "People", should not be entered where accessid is supposed to be entered.
--Reinstall the Change Assistant
--Be sure that the accessid and password being used is valid.
--Be sure that there is not an & character in PSRELEASE.Releaselabel column. Change this to a text 'and' if you find one there.

Workaround:
DB2 customers running Change Assistant must set the variable 'override_connection_reset' to the value 1 in the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PeopleSoft\PeopleTools\Release8.40\Profiles\Default\Database Options
When they are done using Change Assistant, they must change the value to 0 before they use any other PeopleSoft 2 tier applications.
That look a lot like your issue :)
Try setting the registry key value as defined above to see if it solves your issue. -
Old outlook file and New one...Same Job, different computer.

I got kind of a unique situation (I think?) that I couldn't find an answer for.
My old work laptop (just for work email) had a graphic card meltdown and so I had to purchase a new computer. I was able to pull the hard drive out of it and salvage everything, including the outlook file.
Now on my new pc, when I set up my email (POP3) that is linked to some webmail website, I have everything that was online (at that website) in my current outlook.
I was thinking I could just take my old outlook file (7gb worth), bring it into outlook and combine them but I had no such luck. The other issue is, its still referencing the old outlook file off the old hard drive I have and it happens to be the same
exact name as the new one because its my name @ company name.com
Is there anyway to combine them or maybe even just import the new one, and THEN link it to the website?

AJWhat happens when you try to combine them? How did you try to combine them?
Copy the pst file to your new pcs hard drive. It can go in any folder - backing it up is easier if its in My Documents - rename it if the new data file has the same name. Open it in Outlook using File, Open, Outlook Data file. You could set it as default
and move all of the mail that arrived in the new pst into the old one or you can use both pst files.

Deleting Old Outlook E-mail Address and Adding a New One
I am using an SMT5800 and have recently moved. In my previous location, my phone was synced to my workplace Outlook E-mail address. Since moving, I have tried repeatedly to update my Outlook E-mail settings to match my new workplace. Unfortunately, when attempting to change the Outlook settings, the phone does not allow me to remove my old username. Since the phone also does not allow me to simply delete the old Outlook address and simply start over, I remain unable to Active Sync with my current place of employment. How might I go about rectifying this?

I assume you were using MS Exchange for your work. If you can not delete the old account then you do have a problem. This should not be an issue. First back up your phone, Contacts, Settings etc using a backup program like PPCPIMbackup(free) or SPB backup or equivalent. For this message I used PPCpim Backup and backed up all my data to my storage card. Next start ACTIVESYNC on the phone, click MENU>OPTIONS and delete the Exchange account there. Then establish a account with your new workplace. Once the account is established Start PPCPIM backup and restore just the info you want, i.e. contacts etc. That should work. -
Printer is overprinting old jobs on top of new jobs. Using a Mac with OSx and a HP photosmart for over a year. this just started happening.
RReset printing system again and the restart in Safe Mode . This will clear some caches,to do this hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup tone until a progress bar appears, after it has fully booted restart normally and add the printer.

I have a problem with Swing and Threads, I hope you help me (because I'm in the firsts two weeks in my new job)
I have two classes:
Form1: Its a JPanel class with JProgressBar and JLabel inside.
FormularioApplet: (the main) Its a JPanel class with a form1 inside.
I have to download a file from a server and show the progress of the download in the JProgressBar. To make it I do this:
In Form1 I make a Thread that update the progress bar and gets the fole from the server.
In FormularioApplet (the main) I call to the method getDownloadedFile from Form1 to get the File.
THE PROBLEM:
The execution of FormularioApplet finishes before the Thread of Form1 (with download the file) download the file. Then, when I call in FormularioApplet the variable with the file an Exception: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-1" java.lang.NullPointerException is generated.
First main begins his execution, then call to Form1 (a thread) then continues his execution and when the execution is finished ends the execution os Form1 and his thread.
How can I do for main class call the function and the Thread download his file after main class assign the file of return method?
How can I pass information froma class include an a main class. Form1 can't send to main (because main class made a Form1 f1 = new Form1()) any information from his end of the execution. I think if Form1 can say to main class that he finishes is job, then main class can gets the file.
I put in bold the important lines.
Note: My level of JAVA, you can see, is not elevated.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

I have an iMac4.1 and my iPhoto is very slow and the thumbnails correspond to the wrong pictures. How do I fix this? Or is my iMac too old? Will getting a new iMac solve this problem?
I realize is only 512MB of memory but I want to make sure that a new iMac will solve this problem. Can the new iPhoto handle 10GB or more of photos? Or do I have to go to Picasa anyways in which case I can buy any computer to do that?The model of Mac is not partcularly relevant, it's the version of the OS and iPhoto that matter.
iPhoto - since 2006 - is good for 250,000 images.

Import contacts from old outlook 2013 to new Outlook 2013
I recently had to get a new computer. I removed the boot drive from the old computer and installed it as drive F on the new computer. This worked great in recovering my large data files. However, drive F contains an instance of Outlook 2013
as does drive C. How do I copy to or import drive F's contact info to the new Outlook 2013 contacts? I do not need the old email messages as I already have gotten them from the email service provider.Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, to import contacts from old Outlook 2013 to the new Outlook 2013 please follow these steps: -
Collect Files from the Old Computer
First, you need the PST from your old computer. In most cases, they will be in the default location Outlook uses. To quickly access the default PST location outside of
Outlook, paste this line in Windows Explorer’s address bar:

Copy the Files to the New Computer
Now, you will copy the PSTs to the new computer. If you have several PSTs in the folder and are not sure which one is the one with your data, look at the file dates and
file sizes. If you have 265KB PST files, they are empty and don’t need to be moved.
Paste the following line into the address bar.
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
In this folder you will have the NK2, SRS, XML, outlprnt, and VBA project files.
Open the AppData Roaming folder using the following command and copy the NK2 file to the folder.
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Outlook
Create a Profile
After the PST file is on the local drive, type mail in the start search field on the
Start menu or go to Control Panel, Mail then opens the profile dialog. (If you use the
Category view, mail is under the Users group; in Win 64-bit, Mail is under 32-bit application.
Click the Show Profile button.
Click Add to create a new profile.
Enter a descriptive name for your profile.
Enter the name you want to use for your display name, your email address, and your password.
Add Your Existing Data File (PST) to the Profile
If you have an Outlook data file PST, and you want to use with your new profile, then please follow these steps: -
Select the newly created profile, then click Properties.
Click Data files button to open Account Setting dialog to the Data files tab.
Click Add then browse to your existing PST file.
If the PST is a native Outlook 2003/2007 file type, choose the top entry for the Outlook Personal File. Click Ok.
Select your existing PST file.
You can enter a friendly name or just click OK to return the Account Settings dialog.
Click the Sets as Default button. Select the PST Outlook created when it created the profile and click Remove. If you want, click Open folder to find and deletes this PST.

New PC -- Old Blackberry -- Outlook -- How?
I've got a new PC, moved all my old Outlook data to it. Installed Blackberry Desktop. I want to synch it, but I'd like it to be able to figure out that all those Outlook items are the same as they always were. When I try to synch it seems to want to add hundreds of items to Outlook -- which would be bad, because the Outlook items have properties (labels, etc) not supported on the Blackberry, and I don't have the hours I'd need to delete all the duplicates. How can I do this synch so I don't get double-portions of calendar and contact and tasks and all, one place or the other?

SheldonHoping that not too much changed since your last sync (with your old computer): update Outlook with any changes from your BlackBerry, then do a one-way sync from Outlook to your BlackBerry.
Only other possibility I can think of is to export both to an ASCII file, and use some sort of diff/merge tool. Import the resulting file to both.

Recently I have switched out computers and had copied/ transferred my I ITunes library to the new computer and encountered problem.
