New K7N2 Delta MB shuts down installing Wxp & Wme SOLVED !

OK I'm about to go kick the dog
I have been reading all sorts of stuff on this board and posted a few times in other people threads. Now it is time to start clean with my problem and look for help from the MSI Gods of wisdom
I had a system I built a couple years ago and it was running fine. One day it died. Long story short I ordered a new MSI MB to replace my dead Epox MB.
1) seems the Epox is a Via chip set and new MSI is nvidia. So Wme was looking for the Via chips and couldn't find them so it kept rebooting the machine. No way to remove the old drivers because I can start it. Loopty loop we go.
2) to save my data I ended up buying the new Seagate HD at a killer price. I tried to do a clean install of Wxp. I never got too far into the start up and the system does a hard shutdown like someone pulled the power cord out dead. Most people figured my PS was way to weak and after much more reading I think this was true. So just got the new one in today.
3) new PS is working fine. Still can't load Wxp, still shutting down??
4) tried loading Wme instead. Same thing, shuts off during the install but this time I got to the screen that said it was 7% installed, yippy !
5) went to W98. Guess what, nope, it actually installed and I can run it. !!!! Didn't do anything else as I just wanted to prove out the new stuff is working OK. Now I try to do a Wxp update. CRASH !  Wme update, CRASH.  W98 still running OK??
6) Try to load MSI drivers off the CD to see if that would help. Hmmm, I am told I can't install this software with this version of Windows
7) So I can run W98 but can't install MSI drivers, can't upgrade to newer version of Windows. Not much of a machine at this point.
SO:
I have the bare minimum hardware to try and keep it simple. I have the new MSI MB, new PS, new HD, tried from 1 to 3 sticks of Crucial memory cards in every slot and 2 CD drives & floppy. All as shown below in my sig.
Looking for more ideas ?????
One step away from sending the board back. Not sure if I have a bad board or should I just exchange it for a Via chipset version. Strange that it wont let me install Wme or xp ?????????

Solved the problem
Might have caused a new one but still.
I F'd up and made a bad azz-umption:nono:
I took the CPU card into work to clean all the Silver Artic off.
Got home and put it all back in.
CRASHED still.
Then I noticed the cooling fins were tilted.
Turns out I made the azzumption that the socket was made the same way as on the old MB.
Well they are except the pegs you clip the heatsink to are on the opposite sides.
This meant I had the heatsink cocked on the socket.
Wxp must use a ton more CPU power than W98 or DOS.
The machine ran for a long time that way??
Then I got Wxp to start loading and crashed again
Forgot the fan plug
But now xp is installed and running as it should. I just have to spend countless hours installing all the software and drivers again.
Wonder how much life is left in the CPU??
Good excuse to buy a faster one !
Thanks so much for all the help.

  • My new AirPort Extreme keeps shutting down and kicking my ipad and iPhoto off while sometimes showing a good connection in utilities but utilities showing no connection.

My new AirPort Extreme keeps shutting down. The status light is off. If I unplug and re-plug it comes back on and reconnects. Also, it disconnects my iPad and iPhone even though the status light is green. I go to airport utilities and the internet dot is amber and the base station is green. I check wireless clients and both iPad and iPhone show excellent connection but are not connected. If I disconnect and re-connect it restores connection. My old AirPort Extreme never had this problem. I read a couple of comments from owners with similar problems and you pushed it off on the iMac or other things. I hope you have an answer for me!

If it has power, an Extreme's status light should never be off.
Try another power outlet. If it still doesn't work, return or exchange it for a new one.

  • My new MacBook Air keeps shutting down the screen while I use it

My new MacBook Air keeps shutting down the screen while I use it and has to be rebooted. I took it in to the Genius desk at my local store, but they couldn't find anything wrong and said that they have never seen this problem before.
I Spoke to the IT support guy at work. He has the same problem with his new MacBook, but not with his older one. He suggested that it is a software issue with all new MacBooks and is connected to the timing of it going into sleep mode. Does anybody have a solution? Apple doesn't seem to have one.

    Try a SMC reset.

  • My NEW Airport Extreme keeps shutting down.

My NEW Airport Extreme keeps shutting down at random intervals. No power light, not amber, green or flashing. I had to reset it four time this morning in a 10 minute span this morning. I have plugged it into the wall socket directly and now in a surge protector but still having issues. At time it just shuts down while being online. This Airport Extreme is not even three weeks home from being bought at an Apple store.

Take the defective AirPort Extreme back to the Apple Store and exchange it for another device.

  • Installed 7.1 on new Dell. Windows shuts down as result of "nixsrk.dll" problem.

I installed LV 7.1 on new Dell with XP.While running the LV application, Windows shuts down to prevent damage to computer as result of "nixsrk.dll" problem. What is the fix?
    Thanks,

How is your application architected? Are you making calls to DLLs using a Call Library Function Node? It might be that for some reason some of the components for your application were installed correctly on the Dell computers. I would suggest that you try some other application and make sure whether the issue is with your application or LabVIEW installation.

    1) As you mentioned i hav just installed an app called 'Device switch' since i want to shift my complete data from my previous BB 9900 Bold and did it.
And so, did you do as I advised? Did you try removing this app to see if your problems clear up?

    2. It was a new phone so i just put the micro sim card and started using it, i dont know wether the SIM CARD giving me this problem or the app 'Device switch'.
I do not know either, but if you do nothing, then we'll never know. Hence, trying to remove the app would be in order. Also trying a different SIM.

    3) Checked my OS, its 10.2.1.3175.
And that is NOT the version I recommended you to be on. Hence, my prior recommendation stands.

  • Brand-spanking new battery, but still shuts down when unplugged!!

A few days ago, my 2006 MacBook would shut down when I disconnect it from the power adapter. To restart the laptop, I must have the power adapter connected. That gray screen with the apple stays longer than usual, ~5 seconds. I reset the SMC, PRAM, and checked the battery condition in the System Profiler. It had 500 charge cycles, so I went ahead and bought a new battery.
PROBLEM IS NOT SOLVED. Even with a brand new, fully charged battery, the laptop shuts down when I disconnect the power adapter. I used my boyfriend's adapter to charge the battery and the issue persists. I did the whole resetting stuff, no luck. Battery is on charge cycle 2 and in normal condition. I'm up to date on software updates.
Anybody know what is going on and how to resolve this??? Please help!

Okay, and you've done the various resets, so the next things that come to mind are:
    1) Bad DC-in board, which is the Magsafe Board in the newer machines. Instructions for replacement are here(you can also order parts & tools): http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Core-2-Duo-Magsafe-Board/5 20/1. Obviously, if your machine is in warranty, have the Apple store fix the computer.
    2) Faulty logicboard. If this is the case, you want to just work with the computer as-is, or sell it and invest the money in a new machine.

  • New 64GB Wifi/3G shut down unitentially

I have had iPad since it was released early April and last week I upgraded from a 64GB Wifi to a 64GB Wifi/3G.
The new Wifi/3G iPad shuts completly down on its own every day and I have to use the sleep button combined with the home button to get it started again. It takes a long while before the apple sign comes on and before it has started again.
This never happened to my first iPad and I wonder if anybody know if this is a 3G issue or if there is something wrong with the new iPad.

Yesterday I received a new Wifi/3G iPad from Apple support and guess what; after installing it with restore from the previous Wifi/3G iPad; it have the same problem! When I came to work today it had shut itself dowm.
I did restore the previous Wifi/3G from my first iPad, a Wifi model.
Could it be some different software for the Wifi and the Wifi/3G that does this???
    Thanks, Erling

  • WIN 2000 "No Bootable Drive Error" on new K7N2 Delta

Installed new MSI K7N2 MB and AMD Athlon XP 2500+ chip on Saturday and get to WIN 2000 boot and then blue screen error "can not find bootable drive?".
My friend tried booting from his and my WIN 2000 CD to no avail. Both drives show up on startup. Checked cables and tried swopping to no avail.
Any help would be apprreciated. I have tried the stickies to no avail.
    Set up:
Maxtor 20 g master (OS System installed)
Maxtor 80 g slave for video editing
    HP CD RW
    NEC DVD RW
    AGP display Video Card
    IEEE firewire PCI
    FDD
AMD Athlon 2500+ XP (333 FSB)
    MSI K7N2 Delta MB
Antec 300 w mini-tower case ( bought off shelf at store) (do not have the specs on AMPS as I am at work)
    Could it be the PSU?
I know Wonk or someone can offer me their guidance please. The Mrs. is PO'd.

I got that same error today, when I was trying to add a new boot drive with fresh W2K.  I'm going to rant for a while, but you can skip it if you're not using an external drive and you've tested your internal drive ATA (round or ribbon) cables. (note that they can be v-e-r-y bad even if they look OK).   I'll explain how these things relate to "No boot drive", but you'll have to bear with me, I'm still venting and trying to get over how stinking aggravating, time-consuming, AND expensive these components can be and still the manufacturers won't take responsibility for problems.  Sony orphaned this one while it was still on the shelves at office supply stores.
Anyway, I'm such a fool --I know real well that my SONY CRX2100U USB external CDRW is a pig, but I always forget about that because it works pretty well with my MSI board and W2K *once everything is installed*.  But it dies suddenly if I run the W2K setup from it (seems liek the USB20 driver gets stepped on or something.  With other machines, like a Toshiba laptop, I have to disconnect it to boot at all.  It gets in the way of the boot, somehow.  it seems to have some issues with USB 2.0 compliance.  So if you're working off an external hard drive, you might want to consider that it can be less than well-behaved at boot time.
What's this got to do with "no bootable drive"?  I don't know, really.  JUst that Win2K setup blows its brains out and suddenly stops knowing about the USB 2.0 drive, and a Toshiba laptop can't boot with a Sony USB 2.0 drive connected to it.
One other problem it might be:  The ATA cable MSI puts in the motherboard boxes is either a good one or a really awful one.  The awful ones are truly awful--I suspect that they attract and amplify electromagnetic radiation from sun spots or something...something makes the system go NUTS reporting disk errors and such.  My K7N2 Delta ILSR came with the red plastic round cable, it is good as gold.  My K7N2 Delta-L came with a wire-mesh wrapped 80-conductor cable, and I never saw anything more evil than it was, when brand new on a new system.  It *looked* fine, good as new, but acted like it was shorting out the drives.  Fuh, as much as I like to get free cables, I'll never use that one again.  I dug up a twisted old ATA 80 c0nductor (blue-terminated) cable out of an old box and put it in, in place of the wire-mesh round cable, and the system came back to life immediately.
You pro'lly otter get a known good-quality 80 conductor cable for the internal drives.
    So hope this helps.

  • New ProRet: Slow when shutting down, mouse freezes

Hello everyone, I'm new here so welcome any suggestions if I'm doing something wrong. This is my first mac, I've always only used Windows.
My notebook is a Mbook Pro Retina 13inch mid-2014 (bought in Nov). Running OS X 10.9.5. Memory is 8GB and storage is 121GB (currently 75GB free), it only has the applications and the odd Word file, for itunes library and pictures we use an external hard drive.
I don't think I've done anything too bad to it, but I did install a couple of applications a few days before the computer started to go funny: Popcorn Time, but deleted it after 2 days. Then it went a little bit slow so I downloaded and installed CCleaner for Mac and ESET Cyber Security, in case Popcorn Time had virus or malware, but nothing came up in the virus check.
Up until last week, it was running okay, very fast turning on and shutting down, no freezing, no spinning beach ball. But last week, the display went distorted for under a minute (gave me time to take the picture I'm attaching) and since then, every time I shut it down, it takes longer than normal and shows a spinning wheel on a white background. Yesterday, the first episode of non-appearing pointer happened but very briefly, only a few seconds. However, today I was busy typing on Microsoft Word and when tried to use the trackpad, the pointer wasn't there, never appeared again, I could no longer even type anything and neither F4 or F3 responded. Tried Command+Option+Esc and nothing. Pressed shut down button for 3 seconds but the pointer didn't respond to click on any of the options, so had to force shut down with the button. Now I'm scared this will happen again and I will have to force shut down more than is safe.
In case it's relevant, we use the HDMI connection a lot to watch movies on a TV and the display does sometimes move around or briefly show horizontal line but I assume it's normal when plugging in a hdmi cable.
Does anyone have any idea why this could be happening and is there a way to find out what is wrong with it? I wasn't expecting to have problems so early on with a macbook :/
Any ideas will be most welcome (I've no idea about changing system settings or the like).
    Thank you

The picture you have included in your post looks like your Mac may be having some kind of hardware graphics problem. (It's definitely not caused by a virus!)
I'd recommend making an appointment at the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store and have the techs run some diagnostics. Be sure to show them that picture as well, assuming the machine doesn't exhibit the symptoms during your appointment.

  • New K7N2 Delta-ILSR

Recently i had a motherboard that decided to stop reading the entire eide port 1.  SO with the help of a friend i got a K7N2 Delta-ILSR. WHen i got it i had to reinstall 2000.  When i did so i noticed a serious decrease in speed of the hard drive.  it took hours to format a 20 gig partition.  When i finally got 2000 installed i noticed a slow choppyness about the computer.  I had never seen this before.  after a while of getting very agrivated at the machine i thought looke dthought the book again thingking that i might have did something wrong.  this was not the case.  I recently returned from a 4 day trip to vegas and when i turned my computer on it read my entire harddrive as damaged or unformatted.  i want to believe that it is just the harddrive but it is a newer harddrive and i just had motherboard problems.
i have never had any problems with the harddrive before i only had error when i installed this motherboard.
    my specs are
    K7N2 Delta-ILSR
    120gb wd 7200
    512 of kingston 2100
    gforce 3
    2100+ amd

im running what ever drivers came with the board....  I m unsure what the versions are...  I was thinking it must be the cable but i traded it out for a known good cable and it still had the same problems ... i have a feeling its the hard drive but i wanted to see if there have been any problems with the K7N2 Delta-ILSR  that i didnt know about....   i guess im gonna have to low level the harddrive or some thing....
im on vacation again so when i get back ill try to replace the harddrive with one that i know works then ill see what the problem is....
i tried setting default motherboard settings... i just thought it was weird when i had been gone and the computer was off.  that when i got back and turned it on everything was gone...

  • New Macbook freezing and shutting down..

Just got macbook in late Feb. in the past few days I turn on the computer and after a few minutes the screen freezes, scrambles and the macbook shuts down. Then it begins beeping and the power light flashes and I can't turn on the macbook. I have to remove the battery to stop the beeping and so i can turn it on. When i replace the battery and turn it back on sometimes it works, sometimes it freezes up again...Anyone else have this problem or can give me an idea as to what is wrong????
I am currently living in Jamaica so if i want to see if I can fix the problem first before I buy a plane ticket to bring it to get fixed with an authorized repair person in the states.

Have you upgraded anything in your new MacBook? RAM? Hard drive? If so, try replacing the new parts with the old ones and see if that makes a difference. If not, it really sounds like your MB needs some help from Apple. You shouldn't need to buy a plane ticket, though. Simply call Apple tech support (you're still under warranty, after all) and ask for them for suggestions and/or to send you a box for you to send them the machine for repairs. I had very good luck doing that when I had problems with my old iBook.
    Good luck to you!

  • New iMac but iTunes shuts down when I download or add "purchased" videos.

I just bought a new iMac, first I went to an Apple store and inquired that my main use would be with iTunes. I began to transfer songs from my iPod to the Mac using the Senuti file. The major problem is that I am forced to manually add the songs and videos to my library, but whenever theres an attempt to add any videos that I have purchased iTunes shuts its application, forcing me to reopen it only the find the video is not added. I did a test by purchasing a new video and I can see the download completing, but when it does the final part, again itunes shuts down and I've lost the video. Someone sent me a video gift and I was unable to download the video and the itunes store indicates that I have already spent the download, but its not in my library? I don't know what the problem is.

First, I'd suggest you make sure that your iMac has the latest updates: Mac OS X 10.4.9, QuickTime 7.1.6, and iTunes 7.1.1. If it doesn't, update and see if that improves things.
If not, Senuti may have created a corrupt iTunes library. You may need to delete the iTunes library files and add your tracks and videos again (and for any that haven't transferred from your iPod, you may wish to try a different transfer utility).
    Hope this helps.
