New keyboard firmware causing issues

I've never had a single issue with my aluminum bluetooth keyboard... today I get prompted for a software update and now I can't play Starcraft without first removing the batteries from the keyboard.. if I use the keyboard I just get repeating keys ad nauseum. It doesn't happen when doing anything else, though. But the second I started playing Starcraft II I was doomed.

I have exactly the same problem. Whenever I restart my computer it automatically goes to windows unless I held down the left alt key and select Mac. With the new keyboard this doesn't work anymore and I have to plug in my old keyboard each time. It seems like the new keyboard is inactive untill the opertating system is completely mounted as even the left-right keys don't work. Very frustrated and considering returning the keyboard unless I can find a solution. I have all the updates installed etc etc. Maybe there's a setting on the computer somewhere?...

  • New N70 firmware cause my phone restart randomly

    Hi there,
I just updated the firmware on my N70 from version v 2.0xxx to the latest v 5.0616.2.0.3. However, I found a problem is my phone will restart itself randomly, usually every 20-30 minutes. This happens even i did not touch anything on the phone.
It seems the firmware date is 24-04-2006.
    My phone model is RM-84
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I too am having this problem with v 5.0609.2.0.1, although I'm not sure of the frequency of the reboots. I'll see if there is a newer version update available as haishan's appears more recent...

  • New N71 firmware causing errors...

    I've just used the NSU to get the latest version for my N71 (version 0526655). Previously I'd been using the side button for voice commands (the default is push to talk). However after the upgrade whenever I use the button in voice command mode I get this;
    App. closed: MMFControllerProxyServer07f5b45
    App. closed: Telephone
    App. closed : [7750608]NssVasCHThread
I have to restart the phone start the apps again. I also used to be able to tap the answer call button on my headset (HS-23) when using the FM radio to switch between preset channels. That's stopped working too.
Anyone else got this? Anyone got any answers?
    jbn71

I wouldn't upgrade just yet. I was having some niggly issues with my n71 but nothing that I couldn't live with.
Just upgraded and now I've got a big problem I'd swapped the side button to voice commands (default is Push To Talk). It did work fine, after the update it causes numerous crashes of application (including the phone app) which means I have to restart the phone
    Anyone else come across this?

  • Reader causing issues with dropped underscores in courier new font

When converting a microsoft word document in 2013 or 2007 to a PDF is causing issues with dropped underscores.  It only seems to happen in courier new.  For instance if I have _someCode, when converting this over to a PDF file I will sometimes see _someCode and sometimes I will see someCode.  If I open this file in a different pdf reader then it looks correct 100% of the time.  If I copy and paste into another application then the underscore shows.  This is a major issue for people putting code into a PDF document as underscores are important and courier new is what we often use.

I love how quick you are to throw Microsoft under the bus.  Often it is their fault.  In this case I believe you are 100% wrong and absolutely short sighted to ignore this.  As I said in my original email, which you apparently missed, I have tried this in multiple PDF viewers and Adobe Reader is the ONLY reader that misses the underscores.  Foxit, PDF Exchange and Sumatra all render it perfectly.  Adobe reader missed 6 underscores in my document that has 18 underscores.  30% of the time in this document Adobe Reader makes the underscore invisible.  And if I switch the zoom to 100% instead of 148% (which is the default for me for some reason) then Adobe Reader misses 7 of them.  This doesnt occur in the other readers.  Blame Microsoft all you want but the simple fact is that Adobe Reader has issues reading courier new's underscores.  It needs to be fixed.

  • Aluminum keyboard firmware updater caused my Mac not to boot.

After installing the recent (4/8/08) keyboard firmware update, my iMac G5 refused to boot past the grey apple screen, too. Got the spinning paddle, but multiple hard shutdowns and restarts failed to get it past that point.
I ended up booting the Leopard Install DVD and tried to reboot into my backup, a Superduper clone of the drive from the previous night. Wouldn't do it -- got the same result.
Used Disk Utility (on the Leopard DVD) to repair the disk/permissions. The only significant repair was this:
permissions differ on "private/var/log/secure.log," should be -rw-------, they are -rw-r-----.
Now, I don't know what that means, but maybe it's relevant.
I rebooted -- and still was unable to get past the grey screen. I tried repairing permissions a second time (and nothing unusual came up) and it still failed to fix the startup problem. I also used the repair disk function (between permissions repairs) and that had no effect, either.
Ultimately, I was forced to do an archive and install of Leopard, which then allowed me to boot successfully.
Really disappointing -- this is the kind of thing I expect Windows users to have to deal with, not us.

I have MacMini with Wired Aluminum Keyboard. I have all the current Firmware and Software updates. The computer will not startup with the install disc using the "C" key nor will it start up with my second attached hard drive using the "Option" key. Now if I use my old Black Apple Keyboard both of these functions work beautifully.
The real problem is the lack of knowledge about this on the part of Applecare and the Geniuses at the Apple Store. They don't even know about these discussions on the Apple Site nor any other internet site that is discussing or has discussed this issue.
I wasted 2 hours with Applecare. They had me do the usual things such as resetting the Pram, disconnecting all cables and resetting the startup manager. You name it they just follow the book and waste your time and theirs.
Their final conclusion was that my keyboard was defective so they made an appointment for me to bring it into the Apple Store. The Genius in the Apple Store hooks my keyboard up to another computer. I don't remember which model it was but I know it was not a Mac Mini. Anyhow he comes back and tells me my keyboard is fine. He says the RAM in my Mini has gone bad. So I replace the RAM. Still have the same problem.
Well unless someone in this discussion group can tell me what the REAL problem is, I will keep my old Black Keyboard close by.

  • Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 causes immediate kernel panic

Has anyone else encountered this issue? I have tried twice to no avail now to install the keyboard firmware update. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this problem.
Given that I haven't had any keyboard problems, I am guessing that I can just ignore this update.
Note that contrary to the comment accompanying the installer that it will launch automatically, I had to start it manually both times.
Leopard's quality of updates has really tanked in relation to Tiger's. I have never seen a kernel panic before upgrading to Leopard... in fact, until Leopard, the kernel was so stable with Tiger that I was lulled into thinking that Macs don't have kernel panics. Leopard has provided abundant proof now to the contrary. I think that's a shame.

    David
You should also report this to Apple at <http://www.apple.com/feedback/> so that they can check whether there is a bug in the update or somewhere else. If they receive several similar feedback messages it will alert them to a problem. Generally they don't respond directly unless they want further information such as a copy of the installation log.
You could also attempt a re-instal in safe mode (startup holding the shift key until the Apple logo appears. If you haven't recently done so use Disc Utility to Repair Permissions and see whether this finds any problems. Even startup from your installation dvd, select language, then choose Disk Utility from the top menu and Repair Disk. All of these processes may allow the installer to complete its task.
Note that some firmware updates are slow completing their tasks and usually they advise that there should be no other activity on the computer until the process has completed. I've seen it mentioned that the computer may look to have frozen but to wait - not for ever though!

  • New Keyboard issues

I bought a new keyboard for my Mac Pro. Some of the top level commands are not what they are supposed to be. For example, the volume controls only move around the screen. Thoughts? Help? Figuring its simple, but I can't figure it out.

  • Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Software Update Issue

I keep getting the Aluminum keyboard firmware software update in Software Update. I install it, but then it shows up again. No matter how many times I install it, it does not go away. Any ideas?

Have you verified in System Profiler that your keyboard has the update installed? Is the stated firmware for your keyboard correct?
    For a wireless keyboard:
    Open System Profiler.
In the Hardware section of System Profiler, select Bluetooth.
Locate the keyboard in the list of Bluetooth devices.
Look in the Firmware Version field: If the version number is 321, the keyboard has been successfully updated.
    For a USB keyboard:
    Open System Profiler.
In the Hardware section of System Profiler, select USB.
Locate the Apple Keyboard in the list of USB devices.
Look in the Firmware Version field: If the version number is 0.69, the keyboard has been successfully updated.
If it is not correct, manually download the firmware update and install. If System Profiler says that it has been installed then go into Software Update and tell it to ignore that update.

  • Kernel panic when I try to run Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update

    Hi,
I'm trying to run the Aluminum Keyboard Firmware Update and every time I try, as soon as I've entered my admin password I get a kernel panic. I've tried it 5 times and it's the same every time - I click Update, I put in the password and bam.
    Anyone else had this?

If you don't get the KP when booting from the internal, then suspect a corrupt installation on the SSD or that the SSD is causing the issue. See

  • Mac Pro stuck on gray screen after installing software for a new keyboard

I am having a huge issue with my very important work computer! For a few weeks, my Mac has been freezing on the gray screen during start up. Since I had two external hard drives plugged in, I would unplug one of them and the Mac would always restart correctly once one was unplugged. Well today I was installing software for a new keyboard and the mac prompted me to restart. Once I restarted, the gray screen came up again and no matter what I did it would not start up correctly again. I tried unplugging everything except the keyboard and monitor and nothing works. I tried ejecting the crash-causing CD with the keyboard using all of the commands I found on this forum board and nothing worked. I saw forums about manually ejecting the CD by pushing a pin-hole but I cannot find that pinhole anywhere! Then again, the CD might not even be the problem but since the computer gave me the gray screen of death right after using the CD I am thinking that it is the problem. I use this computer for editing a TV show and creating websites so there is a ton of files on it and I need to get it up and running again ASAP. Any suggestions would be appreciated and I am sure by now you can tell that I am not a Mac expert so please dumb it down for me. Thank you!!

I would start by breaking your thoughts and sentences out from one long paragraph.
    Start at the basics.
    Always have backups.
One at least that is a spare boot system you can use.
Clone your system. SuperDuper does a great job for only $29
Boot from another hard drive or last OS X DVD
Repair your drive with Apple Disk Utility along with 3rd party disk maintenance and repair
Hold Option key until the boot manager, then hold mouse to open optical drive.
You can hold mouse on startup and it will eject also.
Hold and continue to hold Shift key during startup to repair the boot drive in minimal fashion.
What device and driver? hint: never use CD, just go online as the CD is usually out of date anyway.
Fill in Mac OS X version and more about hardware would help in posts and in your profile signature.

  • Built-In Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0 fails with error 23:3 on MacBook 2,1

I attempted to install "Built-In Keyboard Firmware Update 1.0" on two laptops tonight.
    Macbook Pro 3,1:
Hadn't experienced the issue that the firmware would resolve. Installed the update anyway, successfully, and continued to have no problems since.
    Macbook 2,1:
Hadn't experienced the issue that the firmware would resolve. Tried to install the update, but it failed with error "23:3". After the failure, the keyboard was non-responsive for about 30-60 seconds, during which time I assume it restored/re"booted" itself. Keyboard function was restored automatically after this time, though there was no indication that it would return, and I had to suffer a minor sweat. Still, I didn't learn I power cycled the system and tried again, but the update never installed successfully.
    Lessons learned -
    If it ain't broken...
That said, Apple seems to have designed their hardware well enough to be able to recover from a failed firmware update. In this case, you just have to pray a little until the keyboard responds again.
Apple: be so kind, let us know what 23:3 means, and if needed, update the Firmware Updater.
    //

    Hi,
I was just wondering how you were able to get the macbook to accept the update? I had to take mine to apple store and get entire keyboard and trackpad replaced in my macbook. They then told me to ignore the update cause they did not have any other keyboards to replace if it happened again.

  • How to remove Emoji keyboard from Add New Keyboard?

I already remove the App ... but the keyboard still work and some symbol stay together  .. they change into faces .. dose anyone know how to completely remove this keyboard??? remove it from Add New Keyboard...

I think you are missing the point here. There is no known problem with the keyboard and it's functionality on the iPhone. You do not need to remove the keyboard to fix it. I have it installed and use it, it does not make symols appear when using other English keyboards. If you are seeing symbols entered unintentionally there is a problem with your iPhone's software. To see symbols you must add the Emoji keyboard to the keyboard list. Even then you must select this keyboard when typing a message and physically select the icon you want. It may be possible if you have a different keyboard selected, other  than US English, that has some built in short cuts for symbol. The US English keyboard does not.
If you jailbroke and modified the iPhone's software in any way it may have messed up the keyboards functionality. I suppose any app you installed to enhance keyboard function may have effect it, but I don't believe Apple would allow it intentionally. Any chat app you use may come with it's own keyboard, changing the system keyboards will probably not fix them. Restore will fix any software issues the iPhone may have although if caused by an app it may come back when it is installed. Restore will erase media files which are not included in the iPhone backup files.
Discussing jailbreak procedures of iPhones here is prohibited and I do not recommend it to fix any issue. I only mention it since some people have problems with iPod/iPhones after they have jailbroke them but fail to mention it in their initial post. It gets futile trying to help someone with a very rare issue such as this and after many attempts to fix it you are told the iPhone is jailbroke which caused the problem.
Again the best fix here is to Restore it back to a clean iOS install using a back up. If it still does it Restore it as new and add apps till you see the problem appear.

  • Lenovo N500 keyboard/ numbers instead of letters/with new keyboard installed/Resolved!!

I thought I would share my recent adventure with a 3000 N500 I have. The laptop was special ordered with Xp Pro on it. I uninstalled and installed Ubuntu, worked great. At some point my wife spilled some soda onto the page up and down keys, resutling in those keys not working. Recently I purchased her another latop and decided to reinstall Windows Xp Pro on the N500 for use with some camera software I have.
I decided to go ahead and order another keyboard from Amazon, for 21 bucks. I wiped the drive and used an OEM Xp Pro to reinstall windows. I was having some issues with sound and modem drivers and decided to go ahead and install SP3 on it to help out with the high def install of drivers. That worked great, but when I recieved the new keyboard Tuesday and install it, I noticed that some dual number letter keys were inputting numbers. I googled and was brought here where a number of posters stated several programs might be the cause. I searched and these programs WERE'NT installed on this, due to a clean install of OEM windows. This took me back to suare one, why. I'm very proficiant in PC's having built many custom machines and assisted others in repair. I decided to test the keyboard by using an flash drive with Linux on it. The keyboard worked like a champ, so that narrowed the issue to windows pr software inside it.
Booting back to windows I started thinking that possibly an update inside SP3. I removed SP3 and rebooted and the keyboard worked great, no errors. Sooo at this point, I installed SP2 to get more up to date on the system. Keyboard still works great at this point, but now the modem and the audio are complaining about driver packs. That was resoved with the install of the high def pack from Microsoft without installing SP3.
I'm posting this to let everyone know, there may be a possibility of an update in SP3 that may be causing keyboard errors. I haven't taken the time to narrow which update, since mine is now working fine, but be aware this conflict may exist.  This SP3 issue may be something that Lenovo needs to explore to head off issues as SP3 is forced onto users to get the high def update for audio.
The short story is, if you removed IDvault or GuardID and are still have issues, you might try removing SP3 thru add/remove programs. Reboot and see if the key board starts to funtion properly.
    >>BE AWARE!!<< removing SP3 may remove needed drivers causing devices to stop working. So good luck, hope this helps others.

I just did a clean install of WinXP SP2 on a 3000 N100 from the original restore CD. Everything appeared fine after installing SP3.
I went on to install several system drivers and support applications.
Then as soon as I installed the Lenovo Hotkey driver, I noticed some of the letter keys return digits , e.g. "R" > "6".
I tried uninstalling it using add/remove programs, but that didn't help.
An external USB keyboard works OK.
How can I back out of this problem?
