New keyboard - old keyboard

After having seen the MacBook Air, I've waited - like probably a lot of us - for a revision of the MBP , with multitouch trackpad and probably other improvements. And there it is - with a Penryn CPU, more VRAM, bigger HD and cheaper price at least in Europe - thanks Apple.
Was about to make a purchase until I spotted - what I first thought would be an outdated picture on Apple's website- the MBP is the last and only product in Apples lineup, that is not equipped with the new keyboard.
So I've wandered, whether the new keyboard is reserved for the consumer line of Apple products and the unaltered MBP keyboard is the superior keyboard for the pro line, or whether the MBP keyboard is currently in a transition period and we will see MBP's with the new keyboard within the next weeks/months.
Went to an Apple Store and tried both keyboards side by side. The new keyboard indeed feels more firm and responsive and with the spacing between the keys it looks more tidy.
So I'm waiting again .... ;-/
Any comments from people using both types of keyboards frequently?
Peter

Greetings, Peter! This is probably one of those "personal preferences" subjects. I know that I prefer the "old-style" MBP keyboard. I tried a MacBook Air out for a while and found the "new-style" keyboard to be uncomfortable in my typing style and indeed I really, really did not like the black keys. Unlike many posters, I did not feel the responsiveness and quality in this new keyboard as I do/have in my MBP. Hence, I was so thankful when I saw that Apple did not install the new-style keyboard in the upgraded MBPs! I am indeed awaiting my new 2.6 17" MBP as we speak!

I had a belkin keyboard for my old iPad.  I have upgraded to an iPad air.  Can I get a new case that will allow me to use my old keyboard?  How?  Where?

You might look for generic cases. They're not as sturdy or durable as custom made ones - they tend to use elastic to hold in the iPad and keyboards - but that elastic does give them some flexibility.
Or see if Belkin has anything.
Or you may simply be out of luck with the compatibility. My Keyboard is in a case custom built for my 2 and I know whatever tablet I replace my iPad with I'll be getting a new keyboard as well because it most likely won't fit in a new case.

  • HT4623 I down loaded ios 7 to my wifes ipad 2  but because of the streamlined look my wife can bearly see the letters and numbers on the key board because of an eyesight problem  She had no problem with the old keyboard.  Is there a way to make the letter

I downloaded ios 7 to my wifes ipad 2.  The only problem was, with the new system the letters and numbers on the keyboard became so streamlined that my wife had trouble seeing them because of a eye problem.  Is there a way to get the old keyboard back and if not how do you uninstall ios 7?

I had thought this situation was solved but it just got worse. In addition to being without service for several days I am now being charged  a cancellation fee for a broadband service that BT disconnected in error. BT Vision was also terminated by BT but the set up charges are still in place. Does anyone know who the relevant Ombudsman is? I called BT from America on Friday - for an hour - while someone called Aruj sorted out why there is an order 'in progress' that I didn't initiate; why I have fees relating to a problem created by BT and why there are references to a house move that didn't take place and a BT Vision service I no longer have but didn't cancel myself. He assured me it would be rectified and my bill would be reduced by 139 pounds and we would get confirmation of this later that day. I asked him what chance there was that this would not actually happen - he said no chance at all; my new bill would be 23.50.
There was no text message. An online chat person today told me there had been a fee reduction request which had been declined and there was nothing else he could help me with as he dealt only with broadband. But he would get BT Vision to email me. They always seem so helpful.............
I'm sure I'm listed somewhere as 'a problem', there's no other explanation for why I get the runaround

  • Keyboard shortcuts on an old keyboard

I am using an old, old keyboard (came with the iMac G3) with my mid-2011 iMac (yes, it's the only keyboard I have for it). I'm wondering if there's a way to create a keyboard shortcut for volume down and volume up on this keyboard. I was able to do the brightness down and brightness up, but I can't seem to get volume commands added. Any aadvice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I'm running OS X 10.8.4.

    Martin,
    I assume you're using LR in English (I don't think there's Danish)?
You can achieve what you want by building/modifying the TranslatedStrings.txt file with your modifications in there. For all languages LR is translated into, such a TranslatedStrings.txt file exists (in the "\Resources\xx\" directory below the program installation path), but for English it would have to be created (there is no \en\ directory below\Resources\).
KeyboardTamer does nothing else than modify the TranslatedStrings.txt file, but it can only do it for shortcuts provided for in the PlugIn. You could create a file "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.3\Resources\en\TranslatedStrings.txt" and describe the different shortcuts in there.
The problem is to find out what you have to write into there. For this, you could take lines out of a TranslatedStrings.txt file of another language (i.e. German), and put them (possibly changed) into the English file. Note that only changes must be present in TranslatedStrings.txt, the rest comes from the program.
    Example:
The line describing the shortcut to zoom in in Library is coded as follows in the German TranslatedStrings.txt:
    "$$$/AgLibrary/KBSC/incrementThumbSize=#"
    I changed it to be
    "$$$/AgLibrary/KBSC/incrementThumbSize=$"
because # is not accessible without a modifier key on the German keyboad, hence the shortcut does not work,
So the lines to be entered in the file are not that easy to find, but with some creativity (i.e. searching for "=.....", where .... is the shortcut-key that does not work) you should be able to solve most of them. Also, the so created TranslatedStrings.txt should additionally be saved in some other place than the program directory as well, becaus after a new installation it would have to be copied into the resources directory again.

  • New small WIRED keyboard not working with bootcamp

    Greetings from Stuttgart, Germany
I just bought one of these new small WIRED keyboards for my macbook pro (early 2008/not unibody).
It's working fine with OSX but not with my bootcamp vista business x64: the fn-key is not recognized. After inspecting the device manager I found out that the keyboard is not recognized as an Apple keyboard like my old one (with numeric keys).
Afer updating bootcamp to version 2.1 I uninstalled the keyboard from the device manager, plugged it in again and it was still not recognized as an Apple Keyboard
Is there a way to manually force vista to use apple keyborad driver? Or is there an update for bootcamp on its way to solve the problem?
    Best wishes,
    Wolfgang Gross

UPDATE: a possible solution that is NOT working:
in device manager, for both USB Human interface devices associated to the a hardware id (05AC/021E) of the keyboard:
Update driver > browse my computer.. > let me pick.. > show compatible hardware.. > Apple Inc./Apple keyboard 2.1.0..
    Doesn't change the keyboard (mis-)behaviour

  • Need old keyboard to boot off start-up disc or enter safe mode

I have one of the first Core Duo iMacs, purchased on July 2006. I have since replaced the original keyboard with the aluminum version that is now standard issue. Whenever I need to boot from the start-up disc to repair my hard disk, or enter safe mode, I always need to go back and plug in my original keyboard. Is there some known hardware compatibility issue with these older iMacs and the aluminum keyboards? I'm glad I still saved the old one.

Are you referring to the new bluetooth (wireless) keyboard or are you using a wired version?

  • I downloaded Ios8 and my keyboard for my financial apps does not include a "enter" key or and "." decible key. How do I get my old keyboard back?

All my financial apps require a "enter" key and a "." decibel key. The new keyboards for IOs8 only have a "delete" key and a blank key with no use.
How do I get my old keyboard back to use on these apps?

  • Tactile response of the new slim aluminium keyboard

Those who have the new slim aluminium keyboard may please share their experience on the feel of this new keyboard for tuch typing. The keys are different from teh previous Apple keyboard. I am used to the old kyboard, where the keys go some disatnce down while typing.

Hi! It depends on what you like. If you like your keyboard, and the keys going down, you won't like the new one. But if you prefer a laptop kind of keyboard, more silent and less distance down while typing, the new one is for you
I've used both of them, and I definitely love the new one, it feels really soft and I type much more quickly... but as I said before, it depends on what kind of keyboard you like.

  • Intel iMac with new usb aluminum keyboard will not recognize boot options

I have a first gen Intel iMac core duo 20". After I replaced the old usb keyboard with the new aluminum usb keyboard, I can no longer boot into single-user mode, select to boot from a different volume (including boot camp), boot from a CD, or boot into target mode. All of the boot key options no longer work. These options do work with an older Apple keyboard. I have all the latest updates including the latest firmware and keyboard drivers. Help Apple, I really need to boot into these different options and with the new keyboard, I can't. I have read several other accounts of this on other sites.

I have an early 2006 intel iMac and am having the same problem with the new keyboard. Called AppleCare, who sent me to the local Apple Store after trying several minutes in vain to cure the problem.
One of the Genius's at the Apple Store pulled up Article 306893, Apple Keyboard (2007): Cannot boot to Startup Manager. This is a document that's apparently not available to the public, as I have the printed copy, but have been unable to pull it up in my searches.
The issue is some intel-based iMacs and Mac mini computers shipped prior to 2007 may not boot to the Startup Manager when holding down the Option key on the aluminum keyboard (2007).
My iMac is listed among the products affected.
The solution they offer is to follow these steps:
    1. While starting the computer, point the Apple remote at the computer and hold down the Menu button. The computer should boot into the Startup manager.
    2. Use the Fast Forward and Rewind buttons to select the desired boot volume.
    3. Once the desired boot volume is selected, press the Play / Pause button to continue booting.
Hope this helps. It works for my system. Still doesn't solve the keyboard issue but offers an acceptable workaround.

  • Forward Delete in New Wireless (alluminum) Keyboard

How can I get the forward delete command available on new Apple wireless keyboard ???

I've tried this on my (old style) wireless keyboard - press "alt" + "delete" and it forward deletes. I do have a proper "delete" and "backspace" key on my 'board, but the above combination works should work just as well.
(I have to use "alt" + "backspace" keys on mine though!)
    Buona fortuna,
    Robert.

  • Turkish old keyboard

After you have installed on the iPad from the Turkish keyboard ios6 How old can turn into?

  • New apple wireless keyboard & iPad 3 pairing question

Bought a new Apple wireless keyboard this week. Had some trouble pairing with iPad 3. Took me 4-5 attempts but it finally paired successfully after 10-15 minutes. Question for all you gurus...  When the wireless keyboard arrived on Friday, I first paired it with my MacBook Pro. Could that have caused issues when I re-paired the wireless keyboard (today) with my iPad 3. And further, this will sound like a silly question, can the wireless keyboard be paired with two devices? I don't mean simultaneously. Does it screw up any settings to use the key board with separate devices/computers? Wondering -- if I keep my wireless keyboard at my office -- can I go to work with either my MBP or my iPad and simply use this one wireless keyboard? Or should each device have its own dedicated wireless keyboard? That seems redundant but I kind of love this keyboard already and would be willing to buy a second, if need be. Obviously, I don't want to spend extra money if it isn't necessary. Am I going to have to re-pair the keyboard and device each time I switch between the iPad and the MBP? Thanks all. You are always helpful and I appreciate it.

Thanks for the quick reply Skydiver! So...I really should buy a second wireless keyboard so that I don't have to go through the hassle of re-pairing the keyboard when i switch devices, yes? Yes, I believe I've answered my own question as I now sit here with my MBP attempting to pair it to the keyboard. Oy. Taking forever. I don't mind buying a second -- for $69, it seems to be the most efficient thing to do. Now I just need to figure out a way to designate which wireless keyboard goes with which device. Time to buy a little sticker! Thanks again.
