New Keyboard with KVM

I have the new Apple Keyboard hooked up to a KVM switch that is Mac compatible but the keyboard will not work. I have tried other Apple Keyboards and it works so is there a way I can make the new keyboard work the the KVM switch?

I just bought the same keyboard, and mine won't work with the KVM either. It's a little disappointing... my guess is that there isn't anything that can be done.
I'm not sure why this wouldn't have been tested, it's pretty much universally assumed that any keyboard will work with a KVM...
I'll be watching this thread to see if there is a solution, though.

  • Setting up new keyboard with function keys

    Hi,
I just attached an older mac USB keyboard (from the G3 era) to my MacBook. It works fine, but I want to know how I can setup my function keys to change the volume, display brightness, etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I still don't know how to program in volume and brightness keys, but it doesn't look like anyone else does so I'll mark this as answered.

    Hi there:
    Good news
Keyboard with backlight feature is available in few layouts, the part number would be similar to 698951-xxx.
You can look in through page 25 & 61 in this manual and know the exact part number:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03591281.pdf
Search the HP part number through HP part surfer website or through online store like eBay or Amazon.

  • NEW KEYBOARD - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Everyone seems to be missing my posts in the other keyboard forums so here is the info I discrovered yesterday about the super new keyboard and the problems with it:
I *CAN CONFIRM THIS NEW KEYBOARD IS ONLY FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH 2007 MODELS OF THE iMAC AT LEAST (not sure about other Macs)*
I spoke with Apple Support yesterday after receiving my 2nd keyboard which still couldn't power my iPod Nano via the keyboard USB ports and non working F3, F4.
After much discussion with his supervisor, he told me (and apologised) in the fact that with my iMac being a 2006 model, the USB 2.0 ports will not work.
You HAVE to have a 2007 model.
I then told them this was false advertising on their part as no where on the website description for this product does it say you have to have a specific model.
I then spoke to customer services as I bought the keyboard online. They are looking into it and say they will refund me £20 if this statement from Apple Support is correct.
Really disappointed with Apple on this one. I see the website info has not changed as yet but I'm hoping it will soon before more customers like myself expect a fully functional keyboard that isn't!

All of the USB ports on the 2006 iMac are 2.0 (though the ones on the 2006 keyboard are 1.1). The new keyboard with its USB 2.0 ports is SUPPOSED to accept USB 2.0 devices. Yet unless you are connected to a 2007 iMac, the 2007 keyboard rejects any USB device other than the mouse as needing more power than the keyboard can provide. Even even a tiny keychain flash drive, which draws almost no power, won't work.
This is not like Apple to be so sloppy with a product launch. Hopefully when they fix the problem with the function keys in the next Keyboard Update, they will also fix the USB 2.0 problem. Unless the new iMacs simply send more power to the keyboard than the old ones ... in which case, we're probably screwed.
A disappointment to those who bought the new KB in part because of its advertised capability as a powered USB 2.0 hub. But I would like this KB even without that feature, so I'm not feeling totally ripped off. Just partially.

  • New keyboard, function keys have changed, how to get standard functions back?

Hi, I recently just bought a new keyboard with numerics and when i hook it up, all my function keys are different. F12 now shows me the date and time/calculator. F11 scoots my open boxes do the side.
how do i get it back to the standard functions? ie, F1-F2 controling brightness, F10,11 and 12 controling sound.

Is this a new Apple wired keyboard? Perhaps model MB110LL/B?

  • Function keys no longer working with a new keyboard...

I got a new keyboard and my function keys no longer work with it.  I am used to have them used in the standard format, i.e. F10-F12 control the voume, etc.  I have the "Use all f1,f2, etc." button clicked.  I have also tried restarting my computer.  Any thoughts?

Try doing a SMC reset and PRAM reset.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

If you have records that show that you've taken your MacBook Pro in for a year to fix the machine, I would escalate the problem to Apple Customer Relations - unfortunately I don't have a number for Spain.
It would only seem logical to me that if you've been trying to have the machine repaired during the time that the 'recall' was in effect that you should be eligible for a new logic board. But only customer relations will be able to make that call.
Good luck - take the issue as high up the food chain as you can and see what happens.

I am using Photoshop CS5 on a new iMac with a wireless keyboard.  I used to be able to hit F11 to perform a custom sharpening action but now the F11 key is the volume control key and I have tried everything to disable or switch the volume key. I have also tried assigning other function keys to initiate the action. Is there a simple solution to this? What am I missing?

Try unmounting the volume on your iMac using Disk Utility. Then mount it again. You may need to reboot the laptop or relaunch its Finder process (using the Force Quit window) after remounting the drive on your iMac. Remember that no process may be accessing any files on the drive you plan to unmount, or the unmount will fail. Unmounting and remounting an external drive on my iMac made it become visible on my MacBook Pro after it had disappeared.

Bluetooth: How to set up your Apple Wireless Keyboard

  • HT1338 I bought a new Mac Mini and tried to pair my keyboard with the Mac Mini. They will not pair via Bluetooth. What is wrong?

I have recently bought a Mac Mini and tried to pair the new apple wireless keyboard with the Mac but after trying 6 times no luck. What can I do about this?

    try this method:
You need at least a USB mouse. If you don't get any option to pair a keyboard, click through the setup until you get to the "Create Your Computer Account" screen, right click in any of the text fields and select Substitutions --> Show Substitutions.  From there click on text preferences.  The preferences pane will popup and from there you can just click the back button (next to show all) to get to the full preferences menu.  Next click on keyboard, then select setup bluetooth keyboard and you're golden.

  • New apple aluminium keyboard with iBook G4

Is this keyboard compatible with my laptop? I have some documents i need to type up, and would like to go an ergonomic route, by using an external, full size keyboard. Anyone know if i can use the new Apple keyboard with my iBook? I'm running Mac OSX ver. 10.4.11.
    Thanks!
    Brige

    Hi there:
The keyboard should work OK; are you referring to a BT wireless version
or the USB corded one? I use a USB keyboard with my iBook G4, and it
is the older white plastic one. I got a good deal on it and so both of my
computers have the same keyboard (and I have a spare new Pro model.)
The USB keyboard is handy for me, since a wireless one would not work
when I use it for other maintenance routines and startup for things such
as safeboot, reset pram or other stuff that may suit my fancy. A wireless
keyboard won't let you do many of those important things, but USB will.
The new style aluminum USB keyboard is more costly than the one it
replaced, and the older plastic ones are not available (except for any
old stock someone may have) so I jumped at the plastic one for $25.
And the wireless keyboard in white plastic has different specs, they
would have no trouble with most Apple computers so enabled; while
a few computers early on, had some issues with the new aluminum.
Hopefully your choice works well for you.
    Good luck & happy computing!

If I can buy a new labtop with dual keyboard language
    English and Arabic

Keyboards with Arabic on them always have English as well -- otherwise you would not be able to type email and webpage addresses.
As far as where you can buy something, you have to contact stores directly yourself, nobody here can do that for you.

  • New Keyboard Not Compatible With All USB Flash Drives

    Hi,
I've noticed that the new super-thin iMac keyboards are not compatible with all USB Flash Drives. Here's an example.
I have 2 USB Flash Drives. One is a ByteStor 2GB USB 2.0 High Speed Dataferry Flash Drive, the other is a Kingston DataTraveler 1GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Neither of these drives used to work with the previous design of iMac keyboard, giving me the "low power" warning.
However, the ByteStor works just fine with the new super-thin iMac keyboard, but oddly enough, the Kingston DataTraveler doesn't. Does anyone know why this is? What's the difference? When buying a new USB Flash Drive, how do you know if it's compatible with the new iMac keyboard or not?

Thanks. Yeah the Kingston DataTraveler works just fine if I plug it into one of the USB 2.0 ports on the back of the iMac. But if I plug it into the new thin Apple Keyboard, it gives the low power warning.

Anyway, I'll try that new keyboard software update and report back.
