  • CS4 on new 64bit machine will not save files, "unkown error"

I just upgraded my machine from an older 32 bit PC to a 64 bit PC running Windows 7. As part of the migration O'm having to re-install a lot of softwaare including Illsutrator. The install was succesful, Illy runs and will open all of my old AI files, but it will not save them. All I get id an "unkown error" message. New files created form scrath save ok; old files will save over or be "saved as"; if I copy the contents of an old fiel to a new page it will not save either. I have removed the AIprefs file but no change.
Any idea what the issue is?

I have had this problem as well and this is my take on it. It can open the files being that it's .ai format but it can't just save them again being that the previous save format was 32bit and now the save format is 64bit and when you ask it to save a 32bit file it wants to save it as 32bit again but illustrator can't do that from a 64bit system. The bit size does make a difference but if you go to save as instead of save it will save it and you can write over it. What your doing then is saving a new 64bit file over the old 32bit file.

  • Photoshop CS6 - Batch function will not save files

OK, I have used the "Automate/Batch" function well over a hundred times, so this situation (first time using it in CS6) is VERY frustrating!
    Running Adobe CS6 extended v. 13.0.1 x32 on a Win XP sp3 OS.
I have a slew of photos that need nothing done except to resize from the native file size to 6 in x 4 in @ 150 ppi and save into a new folder (to not override the original).  I have recorded the action multiple times now and each time I run the action, the files do not save! Here are the various parameters I've used:
    Attempt #1:
         Action Steps Recorded -
    Open

Please help!  This has never been a problem before CS6 and I truly am at my wits end trying to figure out why the files will not save.  I have several hundred files that I need to run this on, so doing it individually is not an option.
Thanks in advance for any and all insights!

I'm having a problem with Automating > Batch as well. Strange enough, I did a batch of other photos and it worked fine. Selecting a new set of folders is not working at all; the files simply pop open and then close but the destination folder remains empty. It also doesn't appear the actions are occuring since I don't see them highlighting as the automation runs. I have no idea why it would work then not. BTW, "Override Action "Save As" is unchecked.

UPDATE: I put a "save as" command at the beginning of the action, then checked the "Override Action "Save As" box and it somehow works now, but not before stalling on an image (normally the last in the folder) and complaining that the image was being used in another program. The only other program opened was Bridge so I'm unsure why it had a problem. I closed both programs and ran the automation with nothing else opened and it worked ... ?? Confused, but not complaining (for now).

  • Keynote will not open file I created in keynote

Created the file in 6.5.2 yesterday.  Keynote will not open it from 6.5.2.  will not open from 5.1.1. On advise from this discussion list Zipped it, sent to myself.  Uncompress - will not open.  Sent to different email address - will not open.  Tried everything in this forum.  Went to app store, would not let me purchase because current version is latest.  Think I purchased some version for Iphone and Ipad in desperation - doesn't seem to have been downloaded but was charged for it.  Really really frustrated with the new Apple - where nothing works. Please help.

Try resetting Keynote;   perform all the steps in the order listed:
remove Keynote version 6.5, you must use an application removal tool for this procedure to work:
Appcleaner is free, I use Appzapper
    empty the trash
shut Down the Mac (Apple menu > Shut Down)
wait 10 seconds, then press the power button
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key,
release the Shift key when you see the grey Apple screen
start up will take a few minutes longer than usual as the Mac is performing a software repair
restart the Mac normally, (don’t hold down any keys during startup)
install Keynote from the Mac App Store

  • Keynote will not save imported images

i've NEVER had a problem with Keynote in the 8 years that I have been using it. Now, it will not save my imported images. I'm getting the equivalent of the RED X in PPT. Does anyone know why this is happening? I'd reinstall, but I no longer have disks...

There are two options, try option 1 first if that does not work use option 2:
    1 -  a custom repair for Keynote 6.1
Try this repair for iWork applications, its sorted out many similar problems in the past
ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1  delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote by using Appcleaner from Mac Update to      do this, its freeware
2  restart the Mac;   Apple menu > restart
3  immediately after the start chime,  press the shift key until you see the Apple symbol.
let it fully boot up,  it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
4  when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive  then First Aid tab and      click  repair disc permissions
5  when complete, restart the Mac normally
6  install Keynote from the Mac App Store
Please report back to let us know if this helped.
2  - Clean install Mavericks by      back up all your work and user files, repartition the hard drive,
    then re-install Mavericks
To reinstall OS X, you must be connected to the Internet
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
If you’re not connected to the Internet, choose a network from the Wi-Fi menu (in the top-right corner of the screen).
Select Disk Utility, then click Continue.
Select your startup disk on the left, then click the Erase tab.
Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) from the Format menu, enter a name, then click Erase.
After the disk is erased, choose Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility.
Select Reinstall OS X, click Continue, then follow the onscreen instructions.

  • MS office word (2011) will not save files on the hard disk. It will save on USB drives.  Help!

I have installed MS Office 2011 on our iMac and Macbook Air.  The program works as expected on the Macbook Air.  However, on the iMac, neither Word nor Excel will save files to the internal hard drive.  Both save files to a USB memory stick.  The error message I receive is:
This is not a valid file name.
Try one or more of the following:
    * Chech the path to make sure it was typed correctly.
    * Select a file from the list of files or folders.
I expect it is something with the file saving options, but haven't been able to sort it out.
    Help please.

Found the answer with the help of Microsoft Office for Mac telephone support.....
The name of the Mac Hard drive started with "\"
Microsoft office can't cope with that.
Renamed the hard drive without the back-slash and it works fine.

  • Easy-Photo software will not save file!

Help! I have been using Canon Easy-Photo software for several years now, but in the last few months it has developed a problem where it will no longer save my files. When I finish and print a DVD, then SAVE, it comes back with the error "Failed to Save the File."
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software several times, but this does not solve the problem. I just today installed it again (after uninstalling), this time from the disc that came with my new MG7120. Same problem! I went online and downloaded what should be the latest version (4.5) and installed that one - still won't save.
    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

OOOOOhhhhhh! The problem must have arisen around the time I updated to WIN 8.1 - not that the program has problems in 8.1, but because I finally got around to changing my normal user profile into a non-admin type profile. If I run the software as an administrator, I can save files.
Well, maybe the problem will happen to someone else and this will help them!

  • Image Processor will not save files in CS5

I use image processor to run actions on a bulk group of image files, always worked fine in CS4.  Now with CS5 the files have the action applied but Image Processor will not close the files.... that becomes a problem when I am working with a couple hundred images!  It seems to save the files fine, into the Jpeg or Tiff folder it creates during the process... it just won't close the files and give me the error: "Sorry, I could not process the following files:"
I am sure this is a bug, since it works fine in CS4 and the process is exactly the same in CS5.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Is there anyway to fix this?  It's a pain to go back to CS4 just to use the image processor.
    Thanks!
    Chris Kilkus

I looked into it more and found the problem is that when the action runs Photoshop for some reason won't let the file save from the file menu (it's grayed out)... only "Save as" which obviously doesn't work in an action.  Strangely, the file does actually get saved in the folder that is created by Image Processor, but since "save" is grayed out, it won't CLOSE the file. There is no reason for it to gray out "save", when I play the action one file at a time it doesn't do this, only when I use Image Processor in CS5. I really don't understand why it's doing this, I think it's just a bug that needs to get fixed.  Don't have the same problem in CS4.

  • Quicktime will not save file or move to another disk

I am consolidating old material to a new drive. I have quicktime complete movies created years ago in Final Cut. The movies play fine, but I get only error messages when trying to copy/move the files to the new hard drive.
The icon on the OLD drive is a blue and red FCP Quicktime, not just the BLUE Qt icon.
The files will also NOT open in FCP, asking for missing render files. Odd, because the movies play just fine and completely.
I tried export, save as, render, all options, but all block.
    HELP ME GUYS.
    Deborah

On the new PC, you should authorize it first.
Then when you plug the ipod in it should ask if you want to copy purchases over or erase it. Obviously you want to choose the copy option!
Here is an article with screenshots of what you will see
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
For the exclamation marks, those files might still be on your old PC, but itunes has just lost the path to which folder they are in. Try finding them with these steps

  • Keynote will not save presentations?

I recently updated Keynote and my OS to Mavericks. I am now unable to save my Keynote presentations. I receive various errors when I try to do so. If I try to save as a Keynote file it tells me that it cannot autosave. If I try to export the file as a powerpoint for my school it tells me that the file type is invalid. Please help! I need to use this program for my school work and luckily I was able to find a way to get the slides to someone for my last class. Has anyone found a way to fix this? Thank you so much in advance!!!

  • New Project will not save, re-open with accurate or matching audio and video.

I filmed footage last week. Uploaded it into Premiere Elements and edited the footage in Elements, and saved my work as a project. I opened Elements this morning, and upon opening my saved project I was prompted by the program to locate the file. When I then selected the raw footage files, it loaded the project, but with audio and video out of order, not synced, etc.
How do I save my work as a stand-alone project file with the audio and video synced as I intended, in a format that I can load, share, re-open and work on without having to re-locate the raw video?
This seems to be a basic function of Video Editing software, so I hope it is something small I can adjust and move on from. Oh Also all the files, both project (.prel) and raw footage (.mov) are saved on the desktop of the computer i am using to run Premiere Elements.

    brjames1
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
After you have created a project and it has been saved, you should be expected to be able to reopen the project with the
project as before the save/close (some discussion about rendered files remaining rendered, but essentially as written).
When they do not, we can invoke the damaged project syndrome.
The following is an Adobe document on that subject.
Troubleshoot a damaged project file | Adobe Premiere Elements
If you are getting "Where is the file....?" messages when re-opening a saved closed project, typical reasons
    a. you have moved, deleted, or renamed files and folders that were imported into the project after the save close...when
you import media into a project, all you get are copies of the originals in the project. But the project needs to trace back
to the originals in the hard drive location where those originals were when first imported into the project.
    b. if you store your source media on an external hard drive, the external hard drive may be malfunctioning and/or the
drive letter of the external drive changing for a variety of reasons. Does any of that apply to you.
Please review and consider, and then we can decide what next.
    Thanks.

  • I Tunes 6.0.4 will not save files to the desktop

Something very strange has occurred since I updated iTunes. I belong to several groups which post music files as an adjunct to discussions. Before, I could click "Save As" in the Safari "File" menu and the audio clip would be saved to the desktop. Now I do that and everytime without fail it only saves 12 KB of the file. I repaired permisions before & after updating, as I normally do, then did so again when this problem cropped up. Anyone have any idea what's going on ???? Hope so....
    Power PC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

The files were all definitely downloadable files, posted for sharing in a couple of Yahoo groups. I even had a friend post something specific for me as a sort of "control experiment." I had had no troubles until I updated, but now seem to have resolved the problem by following a procedure a friend suggested & which I believe is already part of the database here: I deleted the packages from past iTunes installations in the Receipts folder in the Library. I then ran Disk Warrior & now all is well.

  • The new keynote will not allow adjustments in the tenths of degrees only single degrees?

You cant adjust the angle of a picture or anything by tenths of degrees in the new keynote

actually i just solved it. i deactivated File Sharing on the Mini, it complained that some users were still connected, reactivated, it took a good 30 seconds but then that seemed to do the trick....

  • New Firefox, will not save home page and opens up displaying all add-ons every time!

Okay - for YEARS now I've used ONLY Firefox - it had the best extensions and add-ons of any other browser out there. Add to it, it was safe and very quick. So it was my default browser.
This week I logged into my DeviantArt site and odd advertisements started showing up in the lower left and right corners of the browser, unlike anything I'd ever seen before. Add to it, they were very inappropriate! So I assumed that something was wrong, and went through three, as in 3, programs to find out if I had any 'bugs' causing the problems. And of course, there was some kind of nasty bug in Firefox causing all kinds of issues.
So, following the suggestions of the fixer, plus the suggestions here, I deinstalled Firefox (21) then reinstalled the newer version, 23. At first, I thought, "Wow, that is really fast!". When I opened Firefox it didn't go to my home page, it went to the Firefox startup page, along with opening tabs for EVERY add-on and extension!
So, opened Tools, Options and reset the home page to my home page, https://www.google.com
Simple, and something I've done before. I'm a computer geek and have worked on my own additions. So, set up my home page, was working in Firefox, went to youtube to download a video and it wouldn't! So went to DLhelper, read their comments, changed one of the strings, and voila! No problems!
So I thought it was fixed and I was happy. That was last night. This morning I boot the puter and the first thing I do is open Firefox . And what happens? Oh, yes, that's right, NOTHING THAT I WOULD HAVE WANTED! It's back to the Firefox startup page, and it opens tabs for EVERY SINGLE ADD-ON!
Holy carp, getting tired now. So I research from 8 this morning until about an hour ago, so just over 5 hours I keep trying to fix it based on Firefox instructions. Go into about:config, work on the strings, change the home page info, etc. Save it. Go back to Tools, Options and there's my home page. Close Firefox and open it, and what the heck? Again, back to where it was, opening as if I just uploaded this browser. Now I've spent literally HOURS trying to fix this and I'm so frustrated that I'm just about ready to de-install it! My one complaint is that I searched all over to try and find this same problem and cannot find it. Is that true, I'm the only one with this bizarre problem???

EDIT - Now that it's fixed, I shall remove my negative comments where I can. Oddly, the final reset fixed it...

  • Photoshop will not save file extension, how do I fix?

When saving any file, Photoshop saves only the filename without the extension- i must manually add the extension in finder- nightmare! Help Chat sucks so here I am. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but it still doesn't work- any ideas??

First, make sure you have extensions visible in the OS.
Then check Photoshop's preferences and change it back to always saving extensions.
