New Laptop, clean start, except iTunes librarys, what news for iPhone?!

Hi,
I have a new MacBook Pro coming my way (very excited) a nice upgrade from my 3YO work horse iBook!
So, i want to start again, with regards to a 'clean' install. But i want to keep a couple of things like iPhoto and iTunes libraries.
A couple of questions then.
1) The first is actually pre-move over. In that i use 2 iTunes libraries, 1 for my laptop (with small number of songs) and one with an external drive (for all my music). I have only plugged my iPhone onto my laptop one. What happens if i plug into the other one by mistake?
2) When i move laptops, i know i need to copy the library folders from the music folder, to the new music folder, and also copy across the pref file. But what should i do about the iPhone? Will it be as seamless?
3) Any other tips and ideas to make my move as painless as possible!
Thanks
JJ

You need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. You also need to de-authorize your computer that is going back with your iTunes account with iTunes.
iTunes does not store photos. iTunes stores iTunes content only - music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and 3rd party apps, and serves as the sync/transfer content for iTunes content - contacts, calendar events and Safari bookmarks with the supported applications on your computer, and for photos stored on your computer.
You need to transfer all photos from your work computer to your new computer as with all other data that you will need or want to transfer to your new computer.
The easiest way to transfer your entire iTunes library including playlists, play counts, etc. is be transferring the iTunes named folder located in your Music folder from your work computer to your new computer. If you have access to an external drive with enough storage capacity to store your entire iTunes library or iTunes folder, you can use that for the transfer, or you can network the computers together in some fashion. With iTunes quit on your new computer, place the iTunes named folder copied from the Music folder on your old computer in the Music folder on the new computer. Launch iTunes on the new computer and it will be identical to iTunes on your work computer.

  • Clean reinstall of iTunes and APPROPRIATE apps for iPhone 3GS?

    Hi Guys,
I know it's been asked before (sorry) but  I would value everyone's opinion and answering a couple of questions
    to avoid messing up.
I want to clean erase my iPhone 3GS and also ensure I get the correct iTunes default folder structure setup in Windows by doing a
    clean iTunes install.
What I would like to do is fourfold:
    A. Backup contents of iTunes
    B. Total erase and restore iPhone to default.
    C. Copy back most (but not all) of my media
    D. Copy back only apps that will work well on 3GS.  (avoiding apps that may have inconsistencies with 3GS or OS4)
    Questions:
    A. Before I reinstall the latest iTunes, I presume all I need to do is move the whole of the
iTunes folder structure to another safe place  like the desktop, where it can be used as a backup?
    B. I figure it's easy to carry out a total erase of iPhone is easy but do I need to do anything like unauthorise phone or iTunes before I do all this?
C.I then intend to create a subfolder e.g. New wave, and then drag each relevent music file to the relevent subfolder - Or is that not a good idea?
i.e. Is it best to just let Playlists sort the categoeries?
Finally, do I simply select Add Folder in iTunes and add all the music folder to the library - or will that create duplicates?
    D. I have a large number of apps purchased through the Apps store.
I intend to drag and drop these in the Mobile Applications folder.  Is that a good idea?
Is there a quick way to ensure each app is compatible with the latest OS, the latest iTunes, and my iPhone 3GS?
    Thanks guys in advance
    Pete

Sounds like a lot of work and complication for little or no benefit.
Concerning the Apps.... there is no need to manually go through the list and add specific apps, just tell iTunes what you want to sync to the device and what not to sync.  All of this is handled IN iTunes, no reason to try and deal with it elsewhere.
As for the music, if there is content you no longer want, delete it.
Is the music folder currently unorganized?
I just see no reason, based on your posting, to undertake this enormous task.

  • ITunes stuck in "Waiting for iPhone" and iPhone 5's progress bar won't start loading.

I was with about 40% battery, playing a game, when my iPhone 5 iOS 8.1 suddenly turned off, it wouldn't turn back on even with 30m charging. I went to iTunes, and it recognized it on recovery mode, and I tried to restore. However, it got stuck on "Waiting for iPhone" and the iPhone was with the progress bar at 0% for HOURS. I can't find a solution for the problem myself.
    Thanks.

do you have a cdma iphone 4? becauase cdma iphones dont have a sim card slot... the providers that use cdma technology here in the us would be verizion, sprint, criket, ect... if you want to use your iphone 4 on att or tmobile (gsm carriers). then you would need a gsm iphone 4 (has sim card slot). a gsm iphone 4 is different than a cdma iphone 4 (they have different radio chips). maby you missed the sim card slot? sim card slot would be on the side of the phone.. never inside (unless it has a removable back cover like the galaxy s3 or s4), if you dont see a sim card slot on the side of the phone than you have a cmda iphone 4. can you tell me what carrier you are trying to use?

  • ITunes wifi sync 'looking for iPhone' then ejects phone

    Hi,
I have sought an answer to this for a long while with no success. So I have joined ASC to see if any of you folks may help
    My Hardware:
    Apple iPhone 4s
    MacBook Pro (2009)
    TP-Link Router (TD-W8961ND)
    My Problem:
iPhone connects to mac over wifi and shows up in itunes.
When I initiate a sync itunes pauses and states 'looking for iPhone'
The iPhone is then ejected from itunes, without syncing (and no longer shows until I restart itunes)
    Further info:
I believe this is a router issue as wifi sync works flawlessly over other networks I have used.
I have enabled uPnP (and have tried disabling it and resetting the router etc).
I DO NOT believe this is an issue with itunes, iphone or Mac as I can sync over other peoples networks
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello there tastesalittlestrangetome.
Seems like you've done some excellent troubleshooting already. This Knowledge Base article provides some extensive/thorough steps to review and follow:
iTunes 10.5 and later: Troubleshooting iTunes Wi-Fi Syncing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4062
But as you've indicated before, the article also mentions the potential of what you've already determined. It does work on other networks:
Test your device on a different network. If the device works on another network, the issue most likely exists with your router or network configuration. Contact your router manufacturer or Internet service provider for additional troubleshooting.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • ADOBE CS 5.5 - great news for iPhone packager

So I believe the next update for CS5 will be a big one.
The new suite, which will reportedly be marketed as "Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Digital Publishing" suite, will showcase a new version of its "Packager for iPhone" application that will include support for not only Apple's iPhone, but also the iPad and the new crop of Android tablets, incorporating popular touch gestures like "Pinch."
    Check out the sources...
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=13661
    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/11/01/28/adobe_prepping_creative_suite_5_5_digital_pu blishing_for_ios_android_development.html

I was giving figures for each case. A bunch of people were able to submit apps by October 6th 2009, admittedly with an alpha of the packager. Then many more submitted apps with a beta of the packager, right up to when Steve stepped in. The rest of the world could make apps for internal and personal use (on up to 100 devices) until September 9th, when Steve changed his mind. Politics aside, Flash could make iPhone apps throughout that whole time.
I realize that many people would think that it is implied in the marketing that Flash should be able to make iPhone apps that could be uploaded to the App Store, but Steve stopped everything (other tools too, not just Flash) on the same weekend as Adobe launched CS5. It was a very difficult situation for Adobe, and all they could do was let the feature remain in the product. A lot of us would have been unhappy if it was taken out, just as a childish reaction to what Steve had done. It did cause them to change their development direction, and put iPhone on hold, and go full strength on Android development. So, Steve's action was a huge boost for Android development.
About the "Flash would not keep up" part, it's very easy for Steve to have been an oracle about that, after all, he was about to ban Flash.
And with Retina display, it is very common for software to be released to support current hardware, and not so much future hardware. With the last packager development being about two months before the iPhone 4 came out, and with the amount of secrecy Apple have, it would have been hard for Adobe to be supporting the Retina display.
None of which means that you don't have a valid argument, and I would be very happy if the next round of packager updates was free to all CS5 owners, and that the feature set catches and overtakes what AIR apps on Android can do. But that's different than expecting to get a free update of the entire suite that you bought.

  • Automatic start of iTunes when i connect the iphone

can I configure iTunes to start automatically on connecting an iPhone?

You described exactly how to do it.  Simply connect the device and then deselect the option to launch iTunes when the device is connected.
There is also an option in Edit > Preferences > Devices to prevent iDevices from syncing automatically.

    Ask you friends and co-workers.
i have a 2nd gen ipod touch and its really useless to me since most of the new apps need a newer ios software.
Then purchase older apps that do not require a new iOS.
Or purchase music, movies, tv shows.

  • Every time i try to open itunes to update apps for iphone 4s i can never get it to open, i went to command prompt and did the netsh winsock reset, still cannot open itunes

i cannot open itunes to update apps on my iphone. i did the command prompt-netsh winsock reset, still cannot open itunes.

Try following steps and test one at a time:
    1. Check to see if this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, to prevent having to do the same process everytime you restart Windows, go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
    2. If that fails or you don't see ApsDaemon.exe in the Processes, refer to following article to remove SC files:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    3. If that fails, repair or reinstall your Quicktime. START / CONTROL PANEL / ADD N REMOVE PROGRAMS / hightlight QUICKTIME, click CHANGE or UNINSTALL then REPAIR.

  • ITune keeps on waiting for iPhone

    I'm using iTune 11.3.1 (on iMac, OSX 10.9.4) and iPhone4 (iOS 7.1.2).
iTune is able to detect my iPhone when I connect it via USB connector (as there is an "iPhone button" next to "iTune Store" button on the upper righthand corner, but the progress ball keeps on spinning forever.  This also happens when iTune detects iPhone via wifi.
Any suggestion on how to fix this?

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Trash. Relaunch the application and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • ITunes shows white screen for iPhone, allows eject only

Recently restored my phone to factory settings. Connected to iTunes. iTunes shows the device and allows to eject, however to the right there is only a white page. Already tried the following:
    reboot of both devices
    reinstall itunes
connect device to different computer (same white screen)
reset all content and settings on iphone
I'm running out of ideas. The phone works fine - but I can't sync or restore anything! The only option when I click on the iphone icon in the sidebar is...eject!
Screenshot attached. Strange that the same screen shows up on 2 macbook pro's!

I have the exact same problem. I've restored multiple times on two different computers without any luck. This seems to be a brand new issue happening today as I have found multiple threads about this issue...

Oh yes, obvious! Why didn´t I see that?

Better quality after all. So that´s what I´ll do
