New laptop, new itunes rewrites all material on ipod????

mt wifes ipod. she had her cousin set it up months ago since we had windows 98 on our desktop which is not supported by itunes. I got a new laptop with XP on it so i figured I'd load some more stuff on her ipod.... it is going to wipe out the old stuff????? Any way to prevent this?
How long should it take for 12 or so cds worth of stuff to transfer to the ipod?

You can do this...
Using iPod With Multiple Computers
You could also transfer all the songs from the iPod to the new computer so you have everything on the computer and can transfer normally...

Could be since it (security software) is listed as #5 in the following:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • New itunes:  dropped all  my audiobooks.  Can't download audiobooks either.  I'm sick of Apple products.

New itunes dropped all my audiobooks.  Now I am trying to download some new ones and it will not even continue.  It has locked up.  I use Overdrive Media.  It seems like Apple doesn't design their products for my needs.  I use my ipod to listen to books while I exercise.  I spent an hour on the phone trying to fix this.  It was never fixed and my call was dropped four times.

They are not lost.  Do a spotlight search for a title.   In spotlight at the bottom of the page, you will find the path  to the title :  macintosh/users/music/iTunes/itunes music/...
I can not getmy titles to show up in the beautiful cover flow view that the old itunes had.  Let you know if I figure that one out.  For now be assured you did not lose anything.

  • If I download a new iTunes will all my stuff on my iPhone go on to the new iTunes

If I download a new iTunes will all my stuff on my iPhone go on to the new iTunes

No. If your library isn't already on your computer downloading the latest copy of iTunes won't correct that. Ideally you would Migrate your iTunes library from your previous computer, or see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device if that is no longer possible.

  • HT201593 The newest version of iTunes deletes all of my iPod Touch 5th gen audible and visual media when I delete or add music or video to my library and add it to my device manually. Why?

The newest version of iTunes deletes all of my iPod Touch 5th gen audible and visual media when I delete or add music or video to my library and add it to my device manually. Why? I guess the question speaks for itself. I have the latest version of iTunes and iOS 8.2 on my iPod Touch.

If it's any consolation i've just had a similar thing happen. Went to add a playlist and it wiped 35 gig of music off my iPod touch 64g in a nanosecond. I've got the latest iTunes and osx but do not back up because i keep different styles of music (and loads of it) in separate libraries and devices which i don't want mixed together. All my stuff is burned from cd so it's not lost for good and i've got a hard drive with the "lost" mp3 music on it but even so it will take literally weeks to prune the tracks for my iPod to be the same again. Why do they make it so difficult to manage your music on these things. I have massive amounts of music on my computer so autofill is a disastrous unusable gimmick to me. The whole thing seems to be aimed at 9 year old kids with about 6 mp3's on their phone rather than serious music lovers (for example accessing EQ is a joke let alone the lack of a manual option). I'm a dj and use apple for that reason but to be honest i'm beginning to wonder why. I'm absolutely livid. The weird thing is that my mac still shows the titles of the missing tunes in the 'on my device' window but as my macbook storage display shows no increase i'm pretty sure it's all gone. Nightmare. I have no confidence in this device anymore and could barely use the previous osx 8.2 anyway. Why they have to change it every ten minutes is beyond me. As the old saying goes 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but this format just gets more broken every time they update. An absolute disgrace. Why not just drag and drop or delete. No wonder the iPod is said to be a dying device, it's for music, it is not a phone. Not fit for purpose anymore. I can't be bothered to read a massive 'how to use' article every update. Good technology should be easier and more intuitive with each new version. I suppose i'll have to phone apple at my expense to find out what's going on, or maybe that's the whole idea. Very very very not happy.

  • TS1967 I got a new Windows 8 laptop, upgraded Itunes and all my music is missing, including album names. Help!

Recently had to get a new laptop, everything was showing up correctly on the old one in the process of transferring music as far as playlists and albums. I recently went to sync my Classic and found it had most of my albums missing completely or the titles changed to "Unknown Album." My playlists are missing completely, and my "most played, etc" albums are blank. This is all on the new laptop, I haven't tried to plug in the ipod Classic or Iphone 4s to sync yet since the original transfer a month ago.
I'm not sure if this was due to the transfer between computers or new Itunes upgrade. Any info you can give would help. I'm running a windows 8 laptop.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Why can't I move songs from my old iPod to my new iTunes acct and why can't i move new songs from my new iTunes acct to my old iPod?? Help please!

I forgot my user name and password to my old iTunes account.  Apple was unable to assist me in recovering the old account so I opened a new iTunes account.  I connected my old iPod to my new iTunes account but cannot move music from the iPod to the new iTunes account, and vice versa... if anyone can help me - I would really appreciate it!  Thank you!

Was all of the music that is on your older iPod purchased with that older content or is some of it also other content imported originally from outside of iTunes?  You won't be able to purchased content from the older account to your new iTunes library unless you can remember/regain access to that older account.
For other content, you can transfer it using one of the many suggestions mentioned in this older post by another forum member Zevoneer.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022?start=0&tstart=0
As to not being able to sync any new content to your iPod, it's likely because you are trying to sync the iPod with a new/different iTunes library.  iPods were designed to sync with only one computer/iTunes library at a time. So your iPod does not recognize this new library as the one it was originally set up with.  In order to associate the iPod with the new library, you need to restore it to factory settings in iTunes by clicking the Restore button from under the iPod's Summary tab.
Of course you won't want to do this until you have successfully moved all the older content off it into your new library.

  • The new iTunes doesn't recognize my iPod classic.  Why?

I had to re-install my OS which required installing the new iTunes.  Now iTunes won't recognize my iPod classic.  It took some time before iTunes would even allow me to log in to my account.  What's the deal??  I'm becoming increasingly irritated that I can't put my cloud music back onto my iPod...

    Hello kmsutter4,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the iPod classic is not appearing in iTunes. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • Home Sharing will not work with my Windows 8 64bit with new itunes.  All of my Apple TVs will not see my library and my iphones will not function with the "Remote" App.  They all did before.  Only thing that has changed is new PC/itunes.  Any Ideas?

Installed a new Windows PC on my home network.  PC is Windows 8/64bit. with latest version of itunes 11.1.4.62 for 64bit.  My itunes works, but I can not get Home Sharing to function now.  None of my Apple TV's can see my computer library and prompt me to turn it on.  All of my iphones, pods, pad, can not use the "Remote" app.  When you prompt your phone in Remote App to "add library" and you get the code....iTunes doesnt give you the remote screen where you can enter the code.  I have reloaded iTunes, reset my router, updated all devices.  You can turn on "Home Sharing" on iTunes, but then it closes and doesnt seem to link my devices like it use to.  Also, when the new version of iTunes is up on my PC, you can see the other devices to AirPlay to like you could before.  However, I can send items from my iphone to stream to an Apple TV, I just cant link them all like I could before and control the music playing to multiple Apple TV.  Growing fustrated.  Any ideas, would be helpful.

You are a legend!!  I have spent countless hours uninstalling, reinstalling itunes, playing with firewall settings, reading articles on this problem!!  I only have to un-sync my iphone 5 and then the airplay icon magically appeared!!!  Maybe I have too many devices syncing via wi-fi, or maybe it is the Iphone syncing??
Whatever - one step and now I can enjoy my music through my house again!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

  • New Itunes freezes all applications on my Powerbook G4

Since i have upgraded to itunes 5.0, my computer has randomly decided to freeze (every application, i can't even get into force quit, even with the keyboard command) when i was skipping songs on my itunes. I have had to hold down the power button cringe over 75 times since the upgrade and i weep for my hard drive.
When the update for 5.0.1 came out i eagerly downloaded, hoping it would fix the problem -- this wasn't the case. I am usually a person who never upgrades anything right away, but this time, for some reason, i did. I am very very upset about my computer freezing almost every time i decide i want to change the song (when itunes is on a playlist of only 1000 songs on random).
If anyone has any advice at all for why this may be happening, I would greatly appreciate it.
I have not had any problems with songs disappearing, ratings changing, podcasts or anything of that nature, but when i tried to update my ipod it also froze my computer several times before it would allow the update.

    Melissa--
I'm glad to hear things seem to be a bit better. But sorry to hear that you still have to avoid skipping songs.
Have you tried deleting your iTunes preferences? The easiest way to find them is to search on your hard drive for files that contain "com.apple.iTunes". Just make sure iTunes isn't running and drag the prefs files to your desktop. When you restart iTunes, your preferences should be rebuilt.
One thing you ought to do, since you've had to restart your computer using the power key a number of times, is to check your hard drive with the Disk Utility program.
You should boot from your Tiger OS X disk. The installer will come up, but don't start the installer. Instead, look at the menus, one of them will offer the option to switch to the Disk Utility. Check your permissions on your hard drive, and repair the disk as well. It's possible that all the shutting down can cause some corruption in files...

  • Can I create a new itunes account and synch my iPod to it?

I have an iTunes account, but have only bought music and apps on it for my son's iPod Touch.
Now I have my own iPod Touch and we want to have separate accounts. I already synched my new iPod to my own account - the one where all his music is.
What can I do at this point to let my son have his own account with all the music/apps he has purchased?
Can I create a new account and synch my iPod to that? Can I change the email address on the first account to my son's email?

Yes but you will need to authorize your computer for purchases on the old iTunes account.

  • New computer, new itunes library, lost files on ipod

I'm not sure if this has happened to anyone, but please help me if it has!! My computer recently crashed due to an electrical storm, therefore I lost all of my files. Luckily all of my music files were already on my 30g ipod. I set up my new computer and downloaded a new version of itunes and was ready to add more songs when I realized that if I sync my ipod w/ this new version, I'll lose everything, so I hit cancel and decided to figure out a way to use the new version. After getting frustrated, I disconnected my ipod and decided to wait. I went to use it, and low and behold, all of my files had been deleted. The strange part of it all.. when i connect the ipod to the computer again...on the summary page of itunes it says that I still have all the songs and other files! So, why can't I access them, through itunes, or my ipod, and why does it still say they are there.. is there a way to retrieve them and use them again?? thank you so much!!!

I have the same situation. New computer existing large number of songs on ipod that I don't want to lose. I don't have an answer yet, but I was thinking of trying to somewhow retrieve my original I tunes identity so to speak. I guess it's a longshot, but that's all I can think of until someone reads our posts and offers a different solution.
