New laptop - studying as multi-media designer

Hi all
I'm currently studying as multi-media designer and my 32 bit version of windows 7 computer with duel core and 4 GB ram is somewhat lacking the power, especially now when we're getting introduced to premiere pro which my own computer can't even install!
Portability is also an issue here, since I'm not very strong and it takes my at least 1 hour on train and bus each way to go to school.
I'm looking at these 2 laptops - a 15.6" and a 17.3" from a danish site that's known (locally anyway) for building good stuff for affordable prices.
Anyway, please give me some feedback on these two and the configurations I should choose.
15.6"

17.3"
http://www.mm-vision.dk/produkter/vispcsystem.asp?action=vis&type=notevision&menu=notebook &varenr=705500020&gruppe=visionnotebook
My boyfriend did some research on specs and from what he could read in here, he recommened the 15.6" with following setup:
* Windows 7 Home 64-bit (in doubt if it should be Pro version!?)
* Bluetooth integrated

"Nvidia GeForce GTX660m 2GB GDDR5 dedikeret RAM (DirectX 11)"
There's no option for upgrading that... well, we can try to give them a call and hear if the 675 from the 15.6" works in the 17.3"!?

How do I get my old iTunes library onto my new laptop? My old laptop is broken but all media is on my phone. Most of the songs are from CD's which I no longer have. HELP!

That is not necessarily true. You are allowed to make a back-up of media you own and, at least in the Netherlands, even a copy of a work you've borrowed from a library. The law expressly permits this and you pay a certain amount for recordable media to allow for home use.  See http://www.thuiskopie.nl/nl for this.  If you then decide to destroy the media, i.e. do not transfer the media to someone else, I don't see how you infringe copyright by keeping the back-up. But I guess some so-called creatives like the idea of making money in all kinds of hypothetical ways...
It is a nice dream, where you have to work once and then earn a lot of money by selling millions of copies from your work. But buyers can make copies too!! Hahahahahaha!

  • Reinstall CS6 Design standard onto a new laptop?

I purchased and installed CS6 Design Standard onto a laptop that previously bit the dust. I am unable to locate my serial number, but I do have the installation CD's and product codes. Is there anyway I can install the Adobe CS6 Design Standard onto my new laptop?

You could only get the serial number (which is required) if the product was registered. You could check on Adobe.com.

  • Cannot re-download The Adobe CS5 Design Premium to new laptop

    Dear All,
I would like to re-install the CS5 Design Premium software that I've purchased last year because I would like to install it on my new laptop. Now I am using my toshiba laptop so I need to re-install the software, but when I logged on into the adobe account and download it, It said that it has been over 30 days and I can't download/re-install it anymore. Is there any solution for this problem?
Thank you all and waiting for your response.

You could just have backed it up somewhere? It says so on the downloads page. Other than that try this: http://prodesigntools.com/tag/ddl

Is there any particular application's interface that is coming up small or is it happening with all the products?

  • New laptop, now every site I've designed is to the left!

Could someone check out my site http://educaion.net/ and explain why it's showing up like left justified in both firefox and IE without my having changed a single thing? Because basically before I got my new laptop it looked fine, it was centered in the center. Now I just got a new laptop and I don't know what changed, maybe I upgraded firefox with it or something, but in both firefox and IE it's off center now just for my sites whereas other sites look normal. Could anyone tell me how I can fix this?

Not sure if you've already fixed this. But on my system it's fine (chrome 3beta)

  • HT1329 Hi! My old laptop (on which I had my itunes library) was stolen. I now have a new laptop, but when I plug in my ipod, it won't allow me to download/synch the songs on the ipod to the new laptop/itunes library. What is the solution to this?

Note: this is a Windows (not Mac), in case that makes any difference.  When it gives me the option to synch, it informs me that all my old songs currently on my ipod will be erased - which, since I only had them on my old laptop, i don't want to have happen.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Keith

iDevices are not and have never been designed as backup devices.  Use the backup of the computer to put everything back on the new laptop.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup of your media and other important files, you may be able to get iTunes purchases off the device by the following:
Connect the device but do not sync.
Right click on the device and select Transfer Purchase.
Right click on the device and select Backup.
The above should change the library association and move all iTunes purchases.  At this point you should be able to sync the device.  Non-iTunes purchases will be lost.

No, you can easily migrate your entire library from one working compter to another.
If you fail to backup or migrate your library and find yourself with nothing but a new empty computer and a device full of content iTunes is designed to only recover the iTunes purchased content, however third party tools can help recover everything if needed.

  • New Laptop CS6

I am currently looking at purchasing a new laptop and I have been reading through different threads to try and make sense of what I need.
I am a current user of CS6 Photoshop, Lightroom and Premier Pro. I use these programs with my footage Captured from a Canon T3i (both Photos and Video) and I would classify myself as a hobbyist, I make short docs and edit photos.
I am buying a new laptop because I travel for work and would like a PC that can come with me and I can use to edit while I am gone. One system I am looking at buying through computerupgradeking.com is the Asus N56VJ-DH71 Notebook, here are the specs of this machine:

With an upgraded hard drive this will cost either $1114 or $1269 depending if I go with a 250 GB SSD or a 500 GB SSD.
Does this system seem reasonable given what I have outlined above? If not what needs the most improvement? Also is it possible to get a laptop around the same price that would do better?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Aaron

You need at least two drives for video editing... SSD works for boot/software, and then a separate 7200rpm drive for project and video files
If there is no way to put an internal drive in the laptop, you may use an external... IF it is not USB2
External eSata or USB3 are both fast enough for video editing... eSata is better - http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1117813
ONE possibility is this Dock with fan http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-SuperSpeed-Docking-Station-Cooling/dp/B0055PL2YI

  • Synchronising on a new laptop

    Hi all,
I was wondering if someone could tell me how to synchronise my iphone on a new laptop coz i'd like to keep my music and all, but I don't know how to do it
    Thank you

    O yeah?
    Yes.
well what if my old computer is dead?
Just one reason why maintaining a backup for all important data on your computer's hard drive is important - stored on an external drive or some other external media use for backup purposes only, which should include your documents, photos, and your iTunes library. This is important regardless the platform but even more so with Windows due to constant virus, adware, and spyware concerns. The iPhone is not designed to intended to be used as a backup storage device.
Did you lose all important data on your old computer's hard drive, or you had no other important data besides your iTunes library?
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only including 3rd party paid and free apps.
First you need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
If a 3rd party app does not transfer, you can re-download the app with iTunes on your computer and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.

  • HT4972 The computer that I normally sync my iphone with has crashed and all info was lost.... Im trying to sync to my new laptop... how do I do this without losing iphone purchases, apps etc???? Help??

I'm trying to sync and update with my new laptop but I am getting an error meassage that if I continue all purchases, apps etc will be deleted..... How to I do this without losing all my stuff??? Help I have no clue about technology!!!!!

The official way to do it is to restore the iTunes library that was on your old computer to your new computer using the backup of your whole system you regularly update.  Then you are syncing the phone with the same old library.
Some of the information below is summarized by turingtest2 in the post at https://discussions.apple.com/message/18842615
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

(After my old laptop blew, it won't turn on anymore). I've invested quite a bit of money into my music, and it'd be a bummer if it's all gone to waste.

  • Multi media

HiIm a brand new mac book pro user.Tried to play a dvd via my multi media projector. Could get the desk top projected on to the screen but not the dvd. On my old windows laptop I used to press shift and F10 to trip between the screen and pc. What do I do with the mac?

This is the wrong forum for this question, but I'll try to answer. If you have the laptop internal display mirrored onto the external projector display, then you should just need to play the DVD on the laptop display and it should appear on the projector. If you do not have mirroring enabled, then you need to drag the DVD window over onto the external display's desktop, and then you can play it there (even use full screen). Does that help?
