New laptop suggestions
I'm looking to replace an older laptop to use editing and restoring photos in
Photoshop, but all the ones I've seen at Frys and Best Buy have highly reflective screens.
Any suggestions for finding a laptop with more of a monitor-type screen without that mirror finish?
I find the laptops from Sager to be great for editing in PS. I do this on the patio, with some pretty bright Northlight around. Now, for final gamma/density and color corrections, I finish up on the workstation with calibrated CRT monitors.
The things that I like about the Sager is the good load of RAM, and up to a 3x HDD setup. The latter allows me to split the I/O load over several, physical HDD's, so I can have OS and programs on C:\, media on D:\ and Scratch Disks on E:\.
I will be replacing a 4 year old Sager with their latest version soon. I have had zero issues, and even edit a lot of video (more intense than even large image editing with PS).

All I had to do was complain. I synced my iPhone to the Windows machine, checked the other account at iTunes prompting (where no apps had shown up previously), reconnected the iPad, and 140 apps downloaded including the App Store. I have no idea why.

My laptop was stolen and I need to be able to connect my iPhone4 to the new laptop and transfer content (photos, mp3's, apps etc.) to the new laptop. I'm afraid to try a sync in case it deletes all the content off the iPhone. Any suggestions?
You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.

New laptop spec suggestions for Photoshop and Illustrator
Hi Everyone!
As I am sifting through the posts regarding laptops - I figured I'd post my own as my requirements are a little different. I am looking to buy a new windows laptop. I work with Photoshop and Illustrator and basic office programs like outlook, word and excel. I have CS2 but will upgrade with the new laptop purchase - so running CS5.5 (or better) Photoshop and Illustrator is required. I may or may not buy the whole Creative Suite as I only use these and Acrobat. I want to spend what is required to get the job done well - not more - but I don't want to be cheap either – my laptop needs to work well & not hamper my workflow. This will be my only computer. Being efficient is key. I use Adobe to do graphics for apparel: (embroideries, prints, logos, etc.) and small business (logos, print media, etc.). I work in actual size – so a lot of what I do is on a 20 x 30 art board. I do not work on videos – just print media and static artwork. Suggestions on the specs I will need and/or actual laptop models would be great. Thanks so much for your help - it is all so confusing!

My flashdrive only works on one of the usb port. it will not work on the other usb port. however, the other usb works with my iphone charger.

SMC Reset:
Shut down the MacBook Pro.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM:
Shut down the MacBook Pro.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys. -
I have had two previous work MacBooks that died and both were authorized, however, now I can't reauthorize my new laptop because I have reached my limit of 5 systems authorized when technically, I only have 3 authorized. Any suggestions?
Deauthorize all, then authorize the active computers.

I have a hp deskjet 6980 wireless printer. my new laptop is win7 64 bit. offline. any suggestions?
My old laptop was XP. My new laptop is Windows 7, 64 bit. The printer indicates it is connected to network (ready). When I print from laptop it goes in queue, but get error that indicates printer is offline. Note, that I was initially able to print a few days ago. I never downloaded a new driver, when I recently looked for a new driver I found out there was none to download. Any suggestions.

Any suggestions on what to try next as i have tried turning off firewalls etc. I have wiped the computer and reloaded everything again but still i cannot get itunes to load

It not only has a better i5 processor (most of the other ones I seen in this price range had the lower end i3's) and while providing a better CPU it also has a faster hard drive at 7200rpm vs 5400rpm. Faster hard drives means the faster they access your stored data so the system feels more responsive. And it includes Windows 7.
The only slight draw back is it is Windows 7 32-Bit not 64 Bit. But that can be solved easily. The windows product key that ships with your computer is both 32 and 64 bit. So all you need is the 64 bit installation media (which MS offers as a free download, if you use google search you can come up with links to the direct downloads). So if you wanted the 64 bit OS you could do it if you know how. -

My ipod classic will not sync to my new laptop with windows 8. Any suggestions please?
I have an iPod classic U2 Limited Edition. After hours of sorting and searching for lost tunes I finally managed to re-create my music library on my new laptop which runs on Windows 8. However, when I connected my iPod, although it starts the sync process it just stops after a few seconds. My old laptop ran on Vista Home Premium. My current laptop has the latest version of iTunes and the software version for the iPod is 1.2.1 which is also the current version. At this point it is just over half full so I know this cannot be the issue. iTunes recognises the iPod when I connect it.

It sounds like your iPod Classic seems to start syncing, but it stops before it actually finishes. I would recommend the troublehsooting in the following article to help resolve USB syncing issues, named:
iTunes: Resolve USB-related alerts
Try these steps to check the connection between your device or computer. You might need to do only one of these steps to resolve the issue, so test your connection after each step.
See if the cable connection at the device or computer has come loose or unplugged.
Unplug the cable you're using to connect your iOS device from the USB port on your computer, and then reconnect it. Then unplug it from your iOS device, and reconnect it.
Remove any third-party battery packs or cases from the device and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the port on the device.
If your Lightning or 30-pin cable is connected to a keyboard, display or USB hub, try plugging it directly into a USB port on the computer instead.
Close any virtualization apps (such as Parallels or VMWare).
These apps may interfere with your computer's ability to communicate over USB if they aren't properly configured, or up to date. If this resolves the issue, contact the developer of the app to see if an update is available.

When I plug it into the USB the lights blinks orange and then goes blank?USB ports are notoriously iffy, especially those on keyboards. Try a port right on the CPU. If you've already done that, this may be a good investment.

I have been looking to buy a new laptop but I see MacBook Pro still has the pre take over Ati/AMD X1600 old graphics card.
I have also looked at the old XPS m1710 for the same price and it has the Nvidia 7950 = 2x 7900gtx cards in one.

Any help will be appreciated.If you know your will be playing a ton of games more
than anything else, don't get the MacBook. For
starters, very few games run on MacOSX and even
though you 'can' install bootcamp to boot from
windows, there's no point in buying a macbook if 90%
of your time is spent in windows.
If you play world of warcraft, you'll be fine, but if
you plan to play ever new game that comes out that
requires 7900+ graphics cards, stay away from the mac
(and possible think about just getting a ps3/xbox360).
After doing some research I came to the same conclusion.
Mac is not yet a solution / alternative to my problem.
Darn if only there was a way of getting away from Windows and still be able to play games or at least have it running natively on Mac like cedega for linux but even that does not bring the bacon home for new games.
Maybe Apple can buy Cedega like they did with Intel and provide games / games support for Mac then 90% of windows user's will switch.
When will Apple get serious about computing again. I love Apple and my mother swears life/death by Apple but it seems to be utterly useless for me.
