New Laptop - transfer playlists from old computer to new?

Is there a way to push all of the itunes I've purchased over the years on my Iphone to a new computer? I don't want to synch from the new computer to my Iphone, or I'll lose a ton!!

I don't use an iPhone, but if it works similarly to an iPod with iTunes, when you connect it as if you were going to sync (of course make sure you don't select to sync to the empty library), under the file menu, there is an option that says "Transfer Purchases from iPod."

  • How can I transfer playlists from old computer to new computer?

I was using iTunes on a PC and finally threw in the towel and bought a new iMac. Got all my iTunes content transferred just fine. But, I can't figure out how to copy all my old playlists over. Can anyone help me with this?
    Thank you.

    Hello chaptx,
First, you will need to export the playlists either to a flash drive, external hard drive, or back them up to a CD. You can do this by locating each playlist you wish to transfer to your new Mac, right->clicking on it and choosing the "Export" option or by going to the File drop down menu, choosing "Library" and then "Export Playlist" from there. From there, choose the location you wish to save the playlist to, whether it be a flash drive, external drive, etc.
On your new mac, again, head to the File drop down menu and choose Library and then select "Import Playlist." Then navigate to wherever you have saved the playlist, whether it be on a flash drive, external hard drive, etc.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to transfer playlists from old computer

I have managed to get all the music files transferred to a new computer from a back up hard drive after old computer crashed but do not see any playlists in itunes on the new computer. What do I have to do to transfer those over - which file do I need and how do I do that?

Sorry nobody got to your sooner, we are all volunteers here.
If you have a copy of your OLD iTunes folder, there is a .xml file located in there that contains your playlists and locations on the former drive where your music can be located.
By clever "find and replace" in a Text program to fix the path names, and if your copied your music in bulk in the same folders as on the former drive, then you can match your music locations and preserve your playlists.
    Good Luck

how do you transfer playlists from on computer to a new one, library has already been transfered

    - Why not just copy the iTunes computer folder to the new computer?
    - You can transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - You can transfer non-iTunes purchased music by using one of the third-party programs discussed in ths previous discussion:
    Best iPod to PC
    - Unless you can move/copy the iPod backup file from your old computer to the new one and restore from backup, you will have to restore to factory defaults/new iPod and thus loose all app date. The iPod backup file is located:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

how can I transfer/load microsoft word program from old computer to macbook

Was your old computer a Mac?  If not, I believe Microsoft Word for Mac is a separate product than Microsoft Word for Windows, requiring a separate purchase.
If your old computer was a Mac, then you can use Migration Assistant (in your Applications > Utilities folder) to move it.

    Hello!
I'm really struggling in how to work a way to transfer the music from my iTunes on my old computer to my new computer without wiping all of the music from my iPod... does anyone have any ideas?
    Cheers muchly,

There are a few things you could do, from networking the two computers, using an external hard drive or even using your iPod to make the move. Have a look at this User Tip: Migrating iTunes for Windows to a new PC
If you can network the computers there is also this one: Copying songs over a network to use with iTunes for Windows
To use your iPod on two computers without accidentally erasing it, change it to manual update on your old computer before connecting it to the new one. Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have loaded iTunes on your new computer and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
Another way to load iTunes on your new PC is to copy the songs directly from the iPod. There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

There is also a new function in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" which transfers iTMS purchases. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • Transfer Itunes From Old Computer to New Computer

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. The computer screen went totally blank, but the computer turns on and works. We just cannot see anything on the screen. On the old computer, I had Itunes, 2 Iphones 3G and Ipod classic and ipod nano-5th generation. We bought a new Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7. Is there any way for me to transfer my itunes files (music/apps/etc) from the old computer to the new computer even though I cannot see the screen on the old computer? Please help!! Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated!!
    Amber

You should probably hook up a monitor to your old computer, borrow one if necessary. By default, whatever you do on your laptop should be duplicated on the monitor you plug in so you can see what you're doing.
    Hope that helps.

how do I transfer itunes from an old computer to a new computer

Unless you've moved away from the default iTunes settings simply copying the entire iTunes folder from <User's Music> on the source machine into <User's Music> on the target computer (over a network, or via an intermediate copy on a portable drive) will transfer the library.
See this migrate iTunes library post for more.
This gives you the same library, not a new library with the same content.

  • Transfer playlists from old ipod touch to new one?

My daughter downloaded music directly to her ipod touch and made a bunch of different playlists directly on the touch.  She just bought a new touch and would like to transfer the music and playlists from the one touch to the new one.  Is there any way to do this?

After reading several help menus and some discussions here, I was able to solve the problem for the most part.  For those who may have the same question:
Backing up your ipod will not back up music and videos and playlists associated with them in the backup.  It will, however, add all that music to your itunes library, but you are stuck re-creating all of your playlists.  After searching, I found that senuti (itunes backwards) will do the job.  You can download a free trial, or, if you have more than 1000 things to transfer, you can purchase it for $18.99.  You can then move music, videos and any playlists that you created on your ipod onto your computer's itunes and then just transfer those onto the new itunes.  It worked really slick for me.
My only remaining issue was that the backup does not save folders that you may have sorted your apps into.  My daughter had over 200 apps that were all nicely sorted - now she has to recreate all of those folders.  Does anyone have any quick tips for this - or know how to get itunes to save that folder configuration for apps?

  • Transfer music from old computer to new.

Seems I cannot figure out how to transfer my songs from my old computer to new. I am on ITunes 7 on the old and new machine. I have tried export but it fails when the 2nd CD is asked for during Export. I have tried back-up but the new machine will not accept the CD. Any suggestions to an ITunes user who is suffering enough with switching computers?

    Hi yo-dt,
You can also use a portable Hard Drive, or an iPod to move your library successfully. Read the articles bellow:
