New Laptop -- wireless internet halfway working?

I just got my new HP Pavilion dv4t Entertainment PC and everything has worked fine up until I wanted to connect to the internet. I double clicked the connector thing in the bottom right corner and chose the appropriate wireless network and filled in the correct password.
So it now shows that I am connected to my network ("Home") and I have full bars, however when I proceed to click on IE and load a simple page like "http://www.myspace.com" it fails to work. It pretends it's going to work and gets about half way done loading the page (according to the status bar, anyway) and then just stops and the site never loads. However, when I type in google/yahoo.com those pages come up perfectly (and fast) and I can search their search engines. But when I search something like "avg anti-virus" and the search engine displays the results I try to click the first one and it does the same freezing thing it did when I tried to type in "http://www.myspace.com"
I'm using comcast internet, a netgear router, and all of my other computers have connected to the wireless internet without a problem (all the other computers run on XP, though...)

Hi, This happens to me as well. I turn on computer Outlook recieves emails no problem but I go to internet and nothing. It looks like it loads the page sasy 'done' in corner but I stare a white screen. errrhhh. The only way for me to get internet is to disconnect/connect 2-3 times in a row. One time never works. Every other laptop in hosue including my 8 year old gateway connect first time. I tried to explain to best buy and they say nothing is wrong?? Other thant that I love my new laptop.

I have currently Photoshop CC running on my desktop pc, now I am thinking of buying additionally a new laptop or macbook to work out of the house on my pictures. Can I use my current CC membership to install photoshop CC as well on the laptop? with a macbook I have to buy a new license? how does it work?

As long as the Mac meets the system requirements you can use your Cloud software on it.  With a Cloud subscription you can have two machines with working installations and they can use either or both platforms.

  • Wireless internet not working at my house when I use my laptop (using a linksys wrt54g2 router)

I am using a laptop for wireless internet (Dell D610). I have no problem using wireless internet at my school and in other places, but at my house, I can’t browse the internet. The router at my house has a strong signal (4 or 5 bars) and when I try to connect to it, it says that I am connected, but when I open up the internet browser, I can’t get online. The router is in a room right next to mine and it is on the same floor. It is a Linksys WRT54G2 router.
When I go to the network connections folder, for the wireless network connection icon, it says “not connected, firewalled.” I can still browse the internet, though (at places other than my house).
Another thing that I want to mention- I can't connect to other routers in the neighborhood either (the ones that aren't secured). It just doesn't connect (but for the router in my house, it connects). But my roommate told me that a bunch of people have connected to this one guy's router.
What is the problem here? What can I do to make the internet work? Why would I be able to access the school's wireless internet and not the one in my house?

Whats the Wireless Settings you have set on your Router, I there might be the possibility that you have set the security mode on your Router too high thats the reason you are not getting connected to your Wireless Network. Follow the setps to change the Wireless settings on your Router and i think this might help in getting you connected to your wireless network.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
Click on the Sub tab, Wireless MAC Filter..
Make sure the Wireless MAC Filter on your Router is Turned Off.
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • IPod Touch: apps (facebook, twitter, facetime) don't work properly with my wireless internet having worked perfectly before. Help needed!

I got my iPod Touch 4g for Christmas 2011 and for the first 2 weeks everything worked fine - I could download apps; use apps to their full potential; use FaceTime; use everything.
But after the two weeks, the iPod decided to no longer work as well as it had promised. First of all, it would take more than 2 hours to download a single app from the app store and then, straight after that, I couldn't connect to FaceTime (it had worked perfectly before). Then, finally, to top it all off - Facebook and Twitter stopped working on occasions. For example, I couldn't post/send messages or photos on Twitter and at the majority of the time, the News Feeds wouldn't load.
Sometimes everything works but most of the time it doesn't. I've tried my iPod at every time of the day and it makes no difference - nothing still works! Also, I don't think it is the fault of my wireless internet because I've had an iPod touch before and it worked perfectly, and the laptop that I am writing this question on also works perfectly with wifi.
The weird thing is that I have used my iPod to its full potential (everything worked fine) at my friends hosue on multiple occasions - using his wifi. I am really lost for ideas for what to do - I have uninstalled all the apps that don't work with the internet (facebook, twitter) and have always made sure that I have closed apps after using them, so that my iPod wouldn't run slow.
My iPod has been like this for over a month now, help would be appreciated

  • New iMac wireless internet crashes repeatedly -- why?

Just set up the following wireless LAN: Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router as access point between a broadband cable modem, a new 27" iMac, a PowerBook G4, and a Canon wireless printer. Everything works great except for one thing: whenever I'm trying to use the internet on the new iMac, my internet connection crashes and I have to manually reset the modem and router. This happens when downloading a file even as small as 2 Mb. As you can imagine, this has become incredibly irritating, as none of us can get anything done on our new computer without me having to come over and flip a switch on the power strip to repeatedly reset the internet connection.
The Netgear router is about as old as the PowerBook (3+ years)--I see it's listed "EOL" (end-of-life) on the Netgear website, and I'm wondering if it may not be powerful enough to handle the new iMac? That's the only thing I can think of, since using the internet with the PowerBook causes no problems at all. I don't understand the subtleties of Airport v. Airport Extreme, 802.11b, g, n or whatever, to figure this out on my own.
Anyone had a similar problem and/or can confirm that the router is the culprit before I needlessly spend money on a new one?

Some things you can try, if you haven't already:
-Make sure you don't have any cordless phone base stations operating near your router.
-Are any other electrical appliances (like microwave ovens or fluorescent bulbs) operating when your wireless connection fails?
-Power down the router and the iMac, then restart each.
-Change the channel your router uses to broadcast its signal. You should be able to do this from the web browser interface most routers support.
-Check Netgear's support website for firmware updates. Some routers can be commanded to check this from the web browser interface.

  • Wireless Internet not working correctly

I have a ibookg4 with an airport extreme wireless card. A while back my wireless stopped working all the sudden. I have a netgear router nothing to special. So i have spent countless of hours on the phone with the iT guys from netgear trying to help me figure out if its the router or what...i have the latest firmware for my router, i have to use my ethernet cable to connect through my router then to my cable modem to get on the internet. Now sometimes i can connect to my network but the speed is slow even though i have full bars. Then it loses its connection. Sometimes my network is on the list with other names and then sometimes there wont be any names on the list at all....and other times i try to connect and an error comes up and says there was and error joining this group with 2 options try again or ok....weird. When i use a program to find networks and i find mine, my signal strength is only 56% max and this is in the same room as the router. So i would like any help on this or any tips on what could be the problem.

hi old skool.....how did you figure out it was your wireless card? I'm having very similar problems, my mac book pro will recognize the wireless networks and the diagnostics even say i'm connected to the internet but when i open safari it just idles and it never actually opens the webpage.
I pretty much did the same thing, stayed on the phone with the Belkin people for hours trying to figure this out and i know it's not the modem or the router because everything picks up just fine on the windows laptop i use for work.
I'd really appreciate your insight! Thanks!

  • New Laptop - itunes will not work

I had itunes installed on my old laptop and it worked fine with my ipod touch ( 2.2.1). Now I have a new laptop, have installed itunes and every time i connect my ipod touch i get the message saying "itune has stopped working - windows is searching for a solution". The solution never comes. Do I have to uninstall itunes from the old laptop or deactivate that account or something in order to use my itunes account ( and all that is contained within it) on this new laptop? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

It all depends on exactly how you moved the library from your old computer.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Wireless internet not working... I'm so confused :(

I have wireless internet hooked up at my place (Rogers high speed modem with a Linksys router) and it was working on Saturday afternoon. Come Saturday night, when I turned my Powerbook back on, I connect to my wireless router but when I start up Safari or Camino, I can't connect to the internet at all. Limewire as well can't connect either.
Here's what I've found out so far:
1). I can see my wireless network name and it connects automatically when I turn on the Powerbook. All the bars on the Internet connect light up too (full range).
2). I did a hard reset on my router, reconnected everything again and I can still see my wireless router (it automatically connects still). I even did a hard reset on my modem too.
3). Checked all cables, connections, unplugged everything too.
4). All lights on the modem come on, including the activity lights, which still blink normally as per usual. All lights on the router come on too.
5). I did Repair Permissions as well to see if it would repair something too (didn't work).
6). Checked the setting in Network as well... everything seems to be the same as before (when it was working).
I think I have narrowed it down to the modem though... even though the lights are all blinking, when I connect my Powerbook to the modem directly (through Ethernet), it still won't connect to the internet.
The problem, though, lies in the fact that my modem, while purchased outright from someone, is actually rewired to bypass my local cable company's high speed internet and, therefore, I get it for free. So, unless I can take this modem to another apartment in my building to see if it works, I can't actually get my cable company to help out here.
Besides all that I mentioned above, is there anything else I should be checking? Anyway I can narrow down my that it's my modem and nothing else?
Thanks in advance for any help too... much appreciated.
    -Dale

  • My wireless internet is working with all of my other devices but my imac will not connect to the network?

Can anyone help?  My wireless connection is working on both my iphone4S and my ipad2, but my Imac will not connect to the network.

First run Software Update to make sure your iMac is up-to-date.
Even though things are working OK on other devices there may still be issues with your modem or router so it's best to start there. Locate the manuals on both devices and reset each. Do the modem first then the router. Next make sure the router has up-to-date firmware. If the problem continues after updating resetting and updating both devices then download and install iStumbler and let it run for about 30 minutes. iStumbler will scan your area for the Wi-Fi networks being used, pay attention to the channels each network is set to. Most routers are  pre-set to channels 5 or 6 and if you are in a congested area and all the routers are set for channel 5 or 6 then you can see where there might be a problem. Set your router's channel to one not being used in your area, you have at least 14 channels to choose from. Also check to see if your router is using 802.11n, if it's not then it would be wise to upgrade the router to a faster device.
Next is if you are still having issues the problem could be your ISP's DNS settings. If you want to learn about DNS please read CNET's DNS Article and MacWorld's DNS Troubleshooting . Then use the instructions below to reset the DNS settings:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences

  • My wireless internet isnt working?

So today i received My Macbook Pro from ebay(used). Its in brilliant condition and was working quite fine until tonight, which it wont boot sometimes(keeps telling me to restart) and my airport card has stop working. I tried to turn it on but nothing happens. The ethernet works fine but its the wireless that wont work at all. If anyone knows a way to fix this(i dont think its the card worked fine until now) it would be brilliant and with great detail on how. Im still not use to macs.
    Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the discussions. First of all, your MacBook Pro (MBP) should not be asking for a restart. This tell me there is an underlying problem. I would boot from the install disc and repair the HD, using Disk Utility from the disc's utility menu. (note that if there are any repairs made, repeat the repair process until none are found) Then repair permissions!!
Then if you are still getting requests for a restart read this
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1392
And search the boards for "kernel panic" under OS X 10.? ?=5 or 6
Then we can look at your airport card.
    Cheers,
    Glynn

  • Wireless internet not working on my mac for new network..

Im visiting my boyfriend and for some reason my macbook wont pick up his wireless network. All other pc computers in the house seem capable apart from mine. I usually use wireless via my airport router at home. Here it's Tiscalli.
At first it asked me for the WEP password as normal but when I entered the correct password it would say 'connection failed' after trying to connect via that password. (this still sometimes happens)
Then both the desired network and other local networks kept being recognised and disappearing intermittedly (This is still happening) When on the pc laptop the network wireless signal for all remain constant. Often it would also show local networks but not the desired one for the house.
Occasionally it would log me on to the desired network without a password required and show varying levels of signal but the actual internet browser wasnt detecting a connection and was unable to load pages. I also tried another browser - same problem. When it does this, in Network system preferences under 'Connected,' it says 'Airport is connected to SpeedTouch266FC2 and has the IP address (then numbers) Prior to that - it said that Airport had a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet (or something similar)- that message went away and was replaced with the former after I changed the ip address section as detailed below.
Now mostly when I click on the network name - SpeedTouch266FC2 = it makes the system preferences window freeze on the lil rainbow wheel and shows 'application is not responding' in the dock so I have to force quit.
Ive had a scout round the net - someone suggested entering a web address on your browser that dealt with internet settings but didnt require a connection. http://192.168.1.254 amongst other similar addresses that could work. This didnt work - but not in the normal way for the browsers - instead of address not found, itd come up with took too long to respond or connection failure.
I also tried (as suggested on another forum) changing the TC/IP section settings from 'DHCP' to Manually, entered the suggested numbers from a forum - IPv4 Addres - 192.168.1.110, Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0, Router - 193.168.1.1, Configure IPv6 - Off. Ive absolutely no idea what all that means but it did nothing.
The rest of the laptop works normally

Not quite sure why you posted in the iPod nano forum?
Maybe the MacBook forums would be better?
