New LCD screen shows no video until Windows desktop appears

I just got my first LCD screen a few days ago.  Apple 23" Cinema Display.
When the system starts or restarts, I do not see the BIOS/startup info on the screen.  The screen stays black until Windows desktop loads.
Is this normal for LCD screens?

Yes I have LCD connected to DVI.   When I look at desktop properties or in the nVidia control panel, I only see the LCD attached to the DVI as displays;  I do not see the analog display at all.
I was suprised when I first noticed this since I always saw two display options when I had my CRT monitor attached to the analog connector before I got the new monitor, even though I had only one crt physcially attached.  I just assumed that when the DVI connector is in use it auto shuts down detction of the analog option.  Is this incorrect?
Also I looked for new monitor drivers at both MS and Apple and found nothing newer than the MS generic Plug and Play monitor dated 2002 that was installed by default.  Is this to be expected too?
Thanks for your help.

    Hi
There are several layers to this Q
    A. There are no HD in DVD - DVD is as standard only SD-Video what ever tools used to produce it !
iDVD or DVD-Studio Pro or Roxio Toast™ - will only make SD-Video on DVD
    B. DVD can be better or worse
    • Using "Share to iDVD" is no good way - Better is Share to Media Browser and as Large (NOT HD as result will be worse)
    • Using iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - are not tools to chose if highes quality is of importance - iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut any version is far better as they send over all lines to iDVD and not only every second one.
    • Using Right encoder quality depending on movie and Manu duration is very important
    • Use of high quality brand of DVD - is important - I use Verbatim DVD-R
    • Type of DVD - DVD-R plays on more DVD-Players (even old ones)
    • Burn speed - I set it down to x4 - resulting in less burn errors - plays on more players
    • I secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up Mac OS hard disk as iDVD and Mac OS needs this and it can not be taked from other hard disks - has to be here.
    • What You feed iDVD does matter
    Video codecs
    Audio file formats
    Photo file formats

If you've had it for less than a year, then it's still under warranty.  Take it to an Apple store or an authorized service facility.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434

Have you tried HELP in FINDER?  If you open HELP and enter 'displays' in the field in the upper right hand corner you will get a list of topics on setting up monitors.  Specifically read 'Setting up multiple displays to show the same image' and 'Setting up multiple displays as an extended desktop'.

  • Water splashed my iPod 4th generation an worked initially, but now when it is plugged in it sounds like it is powering up but nothing shows on screen, do I need a new LCD screen?

Some water got on my iPod touch 4th generation and when plugged into iTunes it is recognized but nothing shows up on the screen. Does this mean that I need to replace the LCD screen?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • PS 7 and a new LCD Screen

Which one is causing the problem: PS 7 or my new 22" LCD Screen? No matter how many times I remove preferences, I get the same results.
Problem: All circles are printed as long ovals. What is designed looks fine on the screen, but when printed the shapes are elongated. To print them "correctly", I have to stretch out the circles horizontally until they print as circles. This is really dumb!
Please help. LCD screen is great, I love it, but I must be missing something here........appreciate some helpful ideas................mm

Well guys, this sure is the age of technology, but it's destructive when speed becomes the criteria of change instead of quality. I can think of lots of products that last 10 years or more, can't you? Oh, come on, software could be designed for better and longer use too. I can't help wonder if Adobe hasn't adopted the greed need for constant upgrades that don't work easily or well and require patch after patch for fixin'. Do we upgrade because it's really necessary, or to keep up with the Jones's, or just 'cause it's the latest thing to do? Please understand, I admire all who can keep up with the latest widgits and gidgits for whatever personal or professional reason, but let's not berate those who can't.
So, thanks Dave, I took your suggestion and checked out Amazon and CS4 is reasonable. If I do get it, it'll have to sit on a shelf until this 'puter dies, and by then you guys'll be in CS 9 or more. I noticed it stated a different screen (1,024x768 display (1,280x800 recommended), and I just changed mine to native resolution for this 22"LCD. Now what?
    As always, many thanks......................mm

  • Apple Hard Drive not working after picking it up for a new LCD screen

I recently picked picked up my repaired MacBook Pro ( replacing LCD screen). It was weird because they didn't test it in front of me or anything, They just handed it to me. When I got back home, i turned it on. It shows the Apple logo and the loading screen. Once the loading screen was full , it would turn off automaticallyy. It turns out my hard drive failed. Even though my my LCD screen was damaged,  everything else on the mac was working fine. this is also my second hard drive , which i purchased in August ( 90 day warranty up) . I feel like this is an Apple issue and they should give me a free hard drive. Is this possible.
The hard drive was fine before they started to repair it.

  • Older macbook MC516LL/A... New LCD Screen?

So my MC516LL/A fell off the table onto a concrete floor and now the display is dead. I don't see any actual physical damage to the screen but it stays black. I can hook up an external monitor and get a display,so I'm assuming that the LCD screen is somehow damaged and needs to be replaced. I see a wide range of prices and screens available, does anyone have any suggestions? Are there things I should look for or avoid?

From the model number you have given, this seems to be the part you need

  • TS2771 LCD screen shows double image, is this hardware or software?

I have a 4th Gen iPod Touch that shows a double image on the LCD. About a third from the bottom of the screen you see the screen image repeated. The iPod was never dropped so I don't know how this damage occurred.
I plan on replacing the screen, but I am worried that once I do, the problem won't go away. Has anyone seen this before? Do you know if the problem will go away with a new screen? Is this a logic board problem?
    Thanks.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If still problem then it is likely a hardware problem.
I have no idea if it is a screen or ligic board problem.

  • New Location Not Showing in Assign Location Window

    Hi,
I'm new to Aperture so I may be just doing something wrong here. Have checked Aperture help and this forum but couldn't find an answer.
I Assign a Location to a group of photos. Type in the location and it is found by Google. I hit Assign. If I open Places, the locations will show in the drop-downs. But if I go back to the "Assign Location" window under Metadata, the new location isn't shown in the left pane.
Is this an issue or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,

I had the same issue. The problem was due to their being two different places in the admin intrerface to set up federated search locations depending on the type of search. See:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/enterprisesearch/ff727944
    To quote:
    In Central Administration, click Manage
service applications, and then click either the name of the Search service application (when you use SharePoint Server 2010, Search Server 2010, or Search Server 2010 Express) or the name of your FAST Search Query Search Service Application (when
you use FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint) where you want to add the federated location.

  • How to Make a dynamic screen show after Logging Into Windows

I have been asked if it possible to get a Screen (Web page?) to show after people log in and before it takes you to the desktop?
what the requestor wants is basically, you log in onto your laptop, and then a screen will appear with several choices for you to choose from and you can click the item you want and then it will open...
the thing is the requestor wants to have the company logo and specifc items in the screen...yes, I realize this sounds like the tiles that Windows 8 has).... but it also is similar to a web page...
the person mocked up what they want in Access...
is there a way I can do this with a .bat or group policy....

    Hi,
What you have described looks like some kind of software management system.
According to my knowledge, we could configure group policies/scripts to run programs at start up or user logon, but this won't offer a list for the current user to choose, or might we consider to create a software list program which will be triggered
by a logon script, after the selection then make a call to the wanted program?
    Best regards

  • Question regarding the new lcd screens

I'm a potential buyer and to be honest I'm a little concerned about some of the postings here and else where.
While this isn't strictly a support thread it does follow in the vein of supporting a user.
Here's what I'm concerned about and these all could be just unrelated small problems.
    1. loose screens
    2. smudges inside the panel
    3. uneven lighting
    4. dithering <- this one has me really concerned.
I know the most posts here are regarding problems and this does not take into context the vast majority don't have problems. but 2.5k for a new laptop is a lot of money for me so for owners of the MBP could chime in regarding their MBP's screens I would be extremely grateful
    Mike

I just picked up my new baby at my local apple store.
Very nice. So far I'm very pleased. I just reloaded OSX and this weekend I'll throw aperture and CS3 on it. Temps seem pretty decent so far, no smudges as far as I can tell WOOHOO, lighting is even.
I do seem to have the dithering issue, but my macbook did and until I viewed a picture that was posted about the dithering I would not have noticed so I probably can live with it.
