New Lenovo W530 SLOW booting

New W530 Type 2436-CTO with Win 7 Pro, 16gb RAM, 256gb SSD.  This is my second W530
Problem when I boot is it boots very quickly to the Welcome screen and then instead of going to the Win 7 Home screen, the screen goes dark except for the cursor and stays dark with hard drive activiity for about 45 to 55 seconds before the home screen pops up.  After than the computer runs as normal and very fast.
Some thing in the boot sequence must be the problem.  I did all the Windows updates, MS updates and Lenovo updates.  I am mainly a  user so any help needs to be specific with detail directions.  Hate to send it back when it all works perfectly except it takes near two minutes to boot.
Last W530 boot like lightning - Please help me

When I have had slow booting problems, I have found help via a web search for 'diagnose slow boot times Windows 7', or the like.
At the stage where you are having the long delay, there should be Event Logs listing how long each step in the boot process is taking, and whether that is a change from the previous time the computer booted.
Here is a guide I have found helpful:
http://itexpertvoice.com/home/what%E2%80%99s-taking-so-long-how-to-fight-slow-startup-times-in-windo...
^^ It walks you through looking at the Event Logs for particular types of messages, especially related to new delays in startup.
Hope you find your issue and get it fixed.

    Problem!
It takes about 40 seconds from pressing the powerbutton to the Applelogo appeares on the screen. And the full boot-up to my user log-in takes 1 min. and 30 seconds... that is a very long time!!! (compared to other, and smaller machines)
The system is 10.5.1, installed on a clean and brand new HD.
The Hardware test from the orig. system disk, shows NO sign of hardware problems, (a very long hardwaretest about 1 hour and 40 min b.t.w)
I have tryed to remove the optional ram, same problem
A "Bench" test on the hole machine gives good a result compared to another smaller G5, but the new Harddrive has a very bad performance, only around 20% of the other machine in the compared test.
Does the slow start up, got anything to do withe the new hardrive...
or do I have two problems on my G5??
    Hope you can help???

  • Lenovo G770 slow boot

    Hello,
I've recently formatted my G770 with Windows 7 x64 and installed all drivers and Windows updates - yet it is incredibly slow. It takes a good minute for it to boot and the process does not seem right. It starts off with the initial boot options to enter setup / BIOS and then after 2 seconds the black Windows boot screen shows then after some time it goes black for a while and then it shows the Windows boot screen saying 'Wait a moment' and then it enters the Windows desktop.
I believe I had this issue as well when I first got it but I think I somehow manged to fix it, if I remember correctly, but I can't remember how as it was long ago.
Anyways, the reason for the format is that the old HDD died, I think, all of a sudden and Windows wouldn't boot up saying there was some I/O errors. When I swapped it out with another HDD it booted up so I figured the old HDD really just died.
Now this HDD is much smaller and this post seems to indicate that the G770 is not compatible with HDD smaller than ~200 GB. Is this true and if so why and how?
    //brk

    hi brk,
The Size should not affect the Performance of the Drive. Unless the Drive is almost full due it's small capacity.
    Few things you can try:
BIOS has Quick boot option under Startup or boot TAB, Make sure that quick boot is enabled. This should disable the boot selection when you turn on the computer.
Disable Start up items that are not necessary.
Disable Services that are not necessary.
Try Disabling or Enabling the Fast startup
    Let me know your findings.
    Solid Cruver

  • Almost new Lenovo crashes on boot

My Lenovo, bought in February, started freezing on boot up a while back. My technician removed a load of the Thinktank update rubbish he thought was causing it, to no avail.
I then ran a disc error check, and the problem vanished.
Now, out the blue, it's back. Switch on, PC is OK for about 30 seconds, then freezes.
I can boot OK in safe / networking mode.
Any ideas what I can do?
Needless to say, I'd never buy another Lenovo.

If you can open safely in the safe mode, perhaps some of the startup programs/services might be causing the issue, what are the programs listed in your startup entry?
    Cheers and regards,

  • Why is fairly new iMac(Intel) slow booting up?

I've noticed how slowly my newly purchased iMac (intel) is much slower bootin up than my older iMac .  Is this normal or should I not be concerned?

Thanks - I'll do both - but must close for now.  Appreciate your time and efforts!!

Can anyone please help interpret why I'm having slow boot times?  I have copied my console printout during the boot and it seems to be doing a repetitive action while booting.

  • BRAND NEW LENOVO K300 5316 1BU (WON'T BOOT FROM DVD SUPERJULTI DRIVE/CD-WRITER

Would appreciate info from the Lenovo Community as to what might be the problem and a fix.
I just received my new Lenovo K300 5316 1BU. As one of the first tasks I made a Lenovo Repair Disc.
To test my disc I rebooted my computer with disc in drive. During reboot I pressed F12 to get to the proper menu.
I chose the cd/dvd drive as the first boot option. It showed that the drive was recognized stating Boot Priority but then went directly into my Windows 7 deskop.
I called Tech Support and tried everything with them with the same results.
They instructed me to do a complete System Restore to see if that corrects the problem.
I have not done this yet since I will do a backup of my present setup, not to loose all my hard work and time setting up all my programs and settings.
Before I do a complete system restore I would appreciate any comments or suggestions from the community regarding this situation.
Do you also believe that doing a full system restore will help or should I send this computer back?
I do find it hard to believe that a computer less than a week old would have this problem with the DVD Supermulti Drive /CD writer.
If I still have no success after a full restore or a resolve from the Lenovo IdeaCentre Community then I will return this computer back to TigerDirect.
To conclude I would like to mention the following regarding this brand new Lenovo K300 5316 1BU top of the line desktop computer.
One of the reasons I purchased this particular desktop was because of the Lenovo Windows 7 ENHANCED operating system that Lenovo has been advertising so much.
To my surprise and disappointment, this BRAND NEW Lenovo Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit does not have the Enhance version, it is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit only.
Apparently, Lenovo is making some with Enhanced and some without.
Finally, another reason I purchased the 1BU version is because it has a TV Tuner.
To my surprise again, the TV Tuner card in this model does not have an FM Tuner, which almost all TV Tuner Cards have. So, as a result, no FM Radio with Windows 7 Media Center.
Thank you for taking the time to read this long post, but thought it was important to share with the community.
Comments and Help will be most appreciated.

What brand DVD drive did you install? Some third-party drives won't boot by holding down the C key at startup, because they lack the Apple/OEM drive's ROM programming. I recently installed a Memorex (manufactured by LG) DVD burner in a B&W G3, which is recognized by Toast and (with PatchBurn) the iApps. The compatibility problem occurs when selecting a CD/DVD as the startup disk using the Startup Disk Preferences/control panel or by holding down the C key during the restart. In either case, the drive ejects the disk during the POST, so that I have to immediately close the tray and hold down the C key again, to persuade it to boot from the disk. Is this similar to what you're experiencing?

  • New Lenovo E540 stuck on Boot Menu?

My new Lenovo arrived today and I can't even start it.
I press the power button and it goes straight to Boot Menu and App Menu.
I don't want to mess around with the settings because I don't know much about computers.
How do I get to Windows?
    Please help!!

    Hi Ktkt2289,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with not Booting to Windows on your ThinkPad E540.
Please check if the system is shipped with pre-loaded Windows OS.
Keep tapping F2 key after switching ON the system this will take you to BIOS option and there go to Boot option and check if you are able to see HDD there.
Check and confirm if there is any Windows COA sticker at the bottom of the laptop.
Please provide the system MTM (Machine Type Model) number which will be at the back of the system written on the white sticker.

  • Slow boot up time on new Macbook Air

I just got the new Macbook Air a day ago and have already experienced significantly slow boot up time. It takes about 3-5 minutes to get to the log in screen. I know when it was released, it was boasted that it only took seconds to start up after being turned off. Any idea on what I could do to change this or what the issue is?
Also, I just switched from a PC so have very limited knowledge on the Macbooks.

    Try Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Stuck at boot menu - Lenovo W530 Watch

I have a Lenovo W530 (i7 3720QM, 16GB, NVIDIA Quadro K2000M + Intel HD4000 – auto switching with Optimus, running Win8). I left it on overnight and when I opened it in the morning the display was flickering and going crazy. Turned it off and restarted and it said it was updating but it hung so I rebooted again and got a black screen with a blinking white dash at top left. Subsequent restarts just leave me at the boot menu where it recognises drives/usb but wont read from them.
I can access bios and I've tried booting from recovery usb, booting from Win8 DVD, booting from DVD with a different HDD and Win 7/8 in the DVD bay, disabling Optimus and flicking through the other graphics options, removing RAM etc. No luck.
Any ideas on what else I can try?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just to update - got it sorted. According to Lenovo technicians it was a failed SSD. They replaced it under warranty and so far it all seems ok. Hats off to them for very fast turnaround and service,

  • Slow boot time on new SSD

I replaced my old hard drive with an SSD, and I'm getting boot times much slower than expected, between 40 and 45 seconds. I have already set my SSD as the startup disk in System Preferences, repaired disk permissions, performed a PRAM reset, and turned on TRIM. Application launching and shut down are extremely fast, so I'm not sure why I'm getting such slow boot times.
I'm running a Macbook Pro 15", early 2011, 2 GHz Intel Core i7 and 8GB RAM. My 256GB SSD still has 160 GB available.

Could it be related to the fact that the SSD is listed as disk two in the EtreCheck report?

  • New ram slows boot time

I got a 4 GB mem kit from Crucial the other day and installed it into my 17" MBP. The computer runs fine once booted, but it takes twice as long to boot as it did on the original 2 GB. Roughly under a minute to at least a minute and a half. Should extra ram cause slower booting?

Yes; the MacBook Pro checks the installed RAM every time it is turned on, and the check takes longer with more RAM.

  • Buying the right Lenovo w530 for CS5 Master Collection; I should be smarter, but time is an issue!?!

    Hi Everyone
I'm buying a Lenovo w530 for graphic design and video editing on CS5 Master Collection - the whole package!
I have various solutions for HD setup, but no knowledge of hardware or setup in general for a complete machine where the various parts complement each other in a way that there is no obvious bottleneck coming up to fast.
RAID 0 SETUP ON A LAPTOP VERY IMPORTANT???
I'm following lynda.com for various online lessons as this is not my primary occupation, and one of the instructors stresses the need for a raid 0 setup.
Having to do this means ordering directly from Lenovo in the US, because they need to install another devise in the machine.
I prefer not to as I live in Denmark. It's so much easier dealing with local suppliers, and the possibilities that’s already in the machine. I realize that in desktop systems you'll prefer larger solutions with more drives and faster connections. In the Lenovo I’m limited by different setups.
HARD DRIVE SETUP - SSD or 7200 for OS and then what for working disc???
Do I really need raid 0 on a laptop for working files (small web videos) or will SSD Sata III do?
    For OS:
Should I go for a 7200 drive as OS drive and an SSD as secondary drive in the DVD slot via an adapter?
Or should I go for an SSD drive as OS drive, and also as a secondary drive in the DVD slot. (what sizes should they bee)
    CPU
Intel Core i7-3820QM 2,7GHz Quad Core (3,7Ghz Turbo)
    Ram
    16 or 32 mb
    Harddisk
    500 GB 7200RPM
    2GB NVIDIA Quadro K2000M + Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Optimus auto-switch)
    CD/DVD
Serial Hard Drive Bay Adapter III with secondary SSD Sata 3 harddisc, could be something from
120 GB SSD Intel 520 Series
160 GB SSD Intel 320 Series
180 GB SSD Intel 520 Series
240 GB SSD Intel 520 Series
480 GB SSD Intel 520 Series
600 GB SSD Intel 320 Series
    or
    CPU
    Intel Core i7-3720QM 2,6GHz
    Ram
    16 or 32 mb
    Harddisk
240GB SSD(odd size but thats what it says)
    Videocard
    2GB NVIDIA Quadro K2000M + Intel HD Graphics 4000 (Optimus auto-switch)
    CD/DVD
Serial Hard Drive Bay Adapter III with secondary SSD Sata 3 harddisc, could be something from
120 GB SSD Intel 520 Series
160 GB SSD Intel 320 Series
180 GB SSD Intel 520 Series
240 GB SSD Intel 520 Series
480 GB SSD Intel 520 Series
600 GB SSD Intel 320 Series
Back up is intended from the usb 3 port to some disc - haven't looked at it yet.
    FIRST BOTTLENECK?
I hope my system will recognize the NVIDIA card as a friendly given that’s it’s so much newer than my Master Collection CS5.
I'm curious as to where in this system the first bottleneck will be when I start working.
Processor, RAM, Graphics card, hard disc setup
Can anyone recognize this straight away?
Does anyone know how the Graphic cards it handles effects in PP?
I'll be glad for all help I can get BEFORE 1 of Jan where part of my funding vanishes...
al best and happy holidays to all

I do not own and have never used a W530, however having played with various laptop and desktop setups running CS5 I have the following to offer you:
    - Suggest the i7-3720QM over the more expensive and ever so slightly faster i7-3820QM CPU
    - Suggest sticking with the K2000M vs. the K1000M with 1/2 the number of cores (you will need to do the ever so common "hack" for Adobe to recognize this GPU; don't worry, this is not a risky step, you simply need to find and delete a text file after installing the software)
    - You can go with either a 7200 rpm boot or SSD choice for the OS / programs; the SSD will perform normal PC chores faster, but the performance level of the boot drive will not impact Premiere Pro as much as the additional drive(s) that you have
    - Suggest you get a third party solution for adding the optical bay 2nd HD (or SSD); I would choose the 750GB Seagate Momentus to insert into it (NewModeUS, eBay sellers, etc.); this will save you a lot of money and will work just fine.
    - In the USA you can request 16GB in 2 sticks so presumably you could expand to 32GB later with minimal cost; do this if you can
    - Suggest start with W530 loaded and configured with Adobe and see if it performs fast enough for you. And, if you want more speed, you could add a USB 3.0 (W530 does not support eSATA like the W520 did) external drive to give you a bit more performance.
    - Of course big, fast, expensive SSDs would be faster (and smaller) for your optical bay and / or USB 3.0 connected drives, but they are very expensive (per GB) compared with 7200 laptop drives and you most likely will be just fine without it.
I found the link about the guy who purchased a W530 for use on a sailboat, but I see you already found it! (you posted to it).

  • Extreme slow boot time + HDD access - AMD FX 7500, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD

My problem is weird. I bought a brand new Lenovo z50-75 laptop. 4 cores, 4 Gb RAM, etc. I installed a 64 bit Windows 7 (SP1) on it. After I installed the Windows, the boot was long and the programs loaded slow too. So I downloaded the latest Ahci drivers (14.9), but nothing changed. I decided to try this out with SSD (Kingston SSDNow V300). The results were the same, the machine was SLOW! The Ahci is ON - I checked it in BIOS. What is happening? Please help me!

Hello,voI have exactly the same laptop (Z50-75 AMD FX-7500 with 8GB RAM and Seagate SSHD 1TB) and excatly the same problem. I have change the HD and install a new SSD (samsung evo 850) and the same problem. Also I try with a new install of win7 64 bits without AV and any drivers and nearly two minutes fot boot. With the original windows 8 was working fine.I suspect that this notebook works just fine with Windows 8 because of the bios, I do not want to upgrade the bios because in my other lenovo B30-50 I upgrade the bios and now I can not use windows 7 anymore. Very bad from lenovo.  Juan

  • Advanced Configuration and Power Interface - Slow boot on Neo2 Platinum

    Hi,
Recently I bought myself a Neo2 Platinum mainboard but in WinXP I got some stuttering problems while playing music in winamp. I remembered from my last Nforce2 mainboard that changing the WinXP HAL from 'ACPI Uniprocessor' toAdvanced Configuration and Power Interface' fixes this problem.
But when I try to do this it result in WinXP booting really slow (more than 10 minutes at least). Also a clean install of WinXP where I set the HAL manually during the installation gives the same problem after installing the nforce drivers.
    Anyone else had this problem?
    MSI Neo2 Platinum
    Amd Athlon64 3000+
    2* 512MB Corsair ValueSelect
    Leadtek GeForce 6600GT
    Seagate 120GB
    OCZ Modstream 450W
    WinXP

I also have the same problem.
I have a hardware independant image that i have built in MS VPC / MS VS05 which is then sysprep'd and captured into a WIM file.
Before i built my base image in the virtual environment, i configured all the automation files used to install windows, to include the latest Intel Matrix drivers v8.5, including the sysprep files in the base image.
I have a custom WinPE v2.1 that the machine boots of the network, and runs a vbscript in the background to partition the disks, and map drives to the network, it then extracts the WIM file to the hard disk, and copies the required drivers from the network share for the model being imaged, and then proceeds to updating the sysprep.inf.
One of the process's that is performed is checking what HAL to write into the sysprep file.
I have forced all the different types of HAL's by hard coding them in the sysprep, but after the machine reboots i get the black screen of nothing and no hard disk activity, if i reboot into safe mode it freezes on agpCPQ.sys.
I use this build process to support around 5,000 different machines at two different companies, there is proberly about 30 different models of machines that are supported by this image, (HP, Acer, Toshiba, IBM, Lenovo)and i only have the issue with the new Lenovo x301, T400 & T500.
I have spoken with Lenovo Australia, and dealt directly with the advanced system engineers and even forwarded them a copy of my image for testing, so far they have not been able to provide a solution.
They also sent me a copy of the restore disks for those models and windows xp installed without an issue, but the difference is that their image does a fully automated install where as my image is a sysprep'd image.
I checked the machines HAL type after it was imaged, and it is the same as the HAL used inside my VM Image.
