New linux server, oracle unbreakable kernel, any repository?
Hi All,
i am face problem when i try to configure oracle linux unbreakable repository to be able to connect but i am fail
is there repository for oracle linux unbreakable i could to connect to it free like fedora - ubuntu not like redhat enterprise
You can connect to Oracle Public Yum (http://public-yum.oracle.com) . There you will find the content that is already available free on the isos. You can upgrade painlessly to the next update level for free. Other than that, access to the errata and patches is restricted to at least having Oracle Linux Network Support, which is usually around $100USD per year.

Moving from 10gR2 Db on Unix (Tru64) to a new Linux server (10gR2)
Hi,
We are planning on moving our oracle 10gR2 Db on Unix (Tru64) to a new Linux server (same database 10gR2). Interested in discussing the easiest way for a newbie to get the data over to the new box. We currently perform a 'COLD" backup and have no transaction logging. The database is a data warehouse so stopping the database and backing up the files is not a issue. The database size is 500GB.
The Oracle ADDM on our current box is showing "individual database segments responsible for significant user I/O". There is a tablespace with about 30 separate data files that need to be "reorganized"!
Should we perform the reorganize before the migration or after on the new faster box?
What is the easiest way to do this for a newbie? Thanks.Since your source and target platform all little ENDIAN format. Cold copy from OS level is fastest and easiest way.
If you plan to reorg the tablespace along the way, you have to do export/import, use data pump since you are on 10g. -
Moving PO to new Linux server from Netware 6.5
We have the latest version of Novell Data Synchronizer. What is the procedure to update the Novell Data Synchronizer server with the new server? Is it just as simple as updating the IP address of the new Linux server hosting the new PO? Anyone do this yet?

Upgrading Oracle Linux with Oracle Unbreakable Linux Kernel
Hi all.
I'd like to upgrade an Oracle Linux OS with unbreakable linux kernel.
Current version is :
[oracle@union ~]$ uname -r
2.6.18-164.el5PAE
Which steps needs to be performed?.
I know i must be at 2.6.32. Also Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is available for x86-64 servers.
Q: How do i know if my distro is x86 or x86-64?
Regards, Luis ...!Hi Dude... what's a pae kernel?

Best way to spec a new Linux server from existing Windows 2003 server?
We are looking to upgrade our servers to 11.1.2 and I am looking for some documentation/suggestions on the best way to spec the new box on a Linux platform.
I do have the current documentation from ORACLE with regard to "Estimating Disk and Memory Requirements" but am looking for some processor suggestions as well..
Any thoughts or ideas would be welcomed.
Especially helpful would be anyone who is currently running in a Linux environment any pitfalls or issues you've been having with hardware or software.
Thanks in advance.
Adam,I don't think it is possible to recommend you any hardware setup without knowing your environment, budget and expertise.
If you plan to install Enterprise Linux, like Oracle Linux, you should look into getting server hardware and not a desktop system. You may also want think about using Oracle VM virtualization products.
Are you looking for rackmount or blade systems? it might be possible to limit your hardware decision between HP, Dell and IBM. I would personally prefer HP, but that's a matter of experience.
You should probably find out your OS requirements. E-business products and installation instructions are usually designed for the OS version that existed at that time. If you install a newer version of the OS you may run into configuration or backward compatibility issues that may require to install additional software. You should check your OS requirements first before purchasing any hardware. The newest hardware may not support older versions of the OS.
The HP support side shows a Linux certification matrix at: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hplinuxcert.html which might be helpful should you decide to get HP equipment.
You might also want to check your current Oracle licensing if you upgrade to a faster or more CPU's. -

thanks,You need to refer to (Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for Linux x86-64 [ID 761566.1]) which contains all supported OS and kernel settings along with software pre-req.

Cloning the db to new Linux box
Hi,
There is a new linux box and I need to clone the db from the production to this box. I have done the preclone steps on the production db and then copied the entire set of files (Home and Datafiles) after the shutdown to the new linux server.
When I run adcfgclone.pl dbTier, I am getting an error
The 806 installer uses the oratab file.
The file oratab needs to exist at: /etc/oratab
Is there any pre-reqs that needs to be done on the target server.
DB: 11.2.0.1 on Linux 5.0
Apps: 11.5.10 on AIX 5.3
NeelWhen I run adcfgclone.pl dbTier, I am getting an error
The 806 installer uses the oratab file.
The file oratab needs to exist at: /etc/oratab
Is there any pre-reqs that needs to be done on the target server.Create /etc/oratab manually and try then. If you still have the same issue, make sure you have an entry in the file to the new ORACLE_HOME as follows:
SID:ORACLE_HOME:N
Where <SID> is the database name, <ORACLE_HOME> is the new ORACLE_HOME

Extprocs and the new Exadata server
Our product, Symyx Direct, is a data cartridge. It implements a domain index by means of callouts to an external procedure library.
Customers pose queries such as:
SELECT MOLID FROM MOLECULES WHERE SSS(CTAB,’c=c-c=c@1’)=1;
The table looks like this:
CREATE TABLE MOLECULES (MOLID VARCHAR2(12) PRIMARY KEY, CTAB BLOB);
CREATE INDEX MOLIX ON MOLECULE(CTAB) INDEXTYPE IS C$MDLICHEM60.MXIXMDL;
The indextype MXIXMDL has operators associated with it, including SSS.
The definition of SSS involves extensible index calls to a .DLL (windows) or .SO (unix) that implements the search by calling Oracle OCI routines.
Since external procedures are called by the Oracle optimizer and run as a subprocess of the Oracle shadow task (unix) or thread in oracle.exe(windows) that is running the user’s Oracle session, how would this interact with the new Oracle Exadata Server? Would our cartridge product have to run in each low-level database cell inside the exadata server, or will this run at a higher level?Anders,
That does not sound to hard ---
I will look into that.
Thanks!

Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux come with an ndiswrapper kernel module?
Hello
Does Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux come with an ndiswrapper kernel module?
Does Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux come with a package for the ndiswrapper kernel module that matches the kernel version?
What wireless driver is compatible with Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux?Hi,
Oracle Unbreakable Linux does not come with any ndiswrapper kernel module and any package for ndiswrapper module. But it includes many wireless network drivers. You can look at them from kernel package. For example
rpm -qlp kernel-2.6.18-8.el5.i686.rpm |grep wireless
From the output, you can find which wireless drivers are coming with Oracle Unbreakable Linux kernel. -
Dear,
Is RDAC supported in Oracle Unbreakable Linux Kernel 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5?
If supported, please point to the download link.
We require this in order to plan for the OEL 5.5 kernel upgrade to ULK and to connect SUN SAN storage array 6180.
Thanks,
...bashaFrom what I can gather you will need to compile the driver from source in order to use the RDAC driver with the UEK kernel. Chances are that it won't compile properly under the UEK kernel, which is more up to date than the RHEL kernel.
You will have to start the system from the supplied original RHEL kernel in order to use the binary IBM RDAC driver distribution. The following is available: http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/rdac/ds4000.aspx and http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/rdac/ds3000.aspx
You may however be able to use Multipath, which is build in also in the UEK kernel. To get the current supported configurations for IBM System Storage it is best to use the interoperability matrices located at http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/storage/product/interop.html. You can use the link to the "System Storage Interoperation Center (SSIC)" to query your specific configuration (http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/ssic/interoperability.wss)
