New Lion e-mail issues

Since up grading to new Lion I am having e-mail issue.
I will not recognize any passwords from outside accounts even though they are correct?
I have reset in system pop preferences and still does not work.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • New Lion Mac Mail

Not too sure how much I really like this new app - but perhaps I can change a few settings around so I like it.  Can anyone help?
    1) Am I able to have my emails NOT group in my inbox according to the subject line?  Sometimes I have responses with the same subject line, from different email addresses and they get lost in my inbox
    2) Am I able to select an email and see who the email was TO?  (currently it does not show me any other info other than who the email was from, subject and date/time)
    Thanks so much Apple Communities!

In mail go to the view menu and uncheck conversation view.

  • Folder size in new Lion Mac Mail is Huge

Anyone know how I can adjust my folder size (pixel height/width)? Before I upgraded they were much smaller and easier to see on my screen.

I found the solution on another thread.

You need to go to 'System Preferences, General, Sidebar Icon Size'

  • Lion installed - Mail Now Unusable

Can anyone explain to me why with the new Lion OS, Mail and Address Book have become snails? I get the beach ball of death everytime I even touch Mail! How can anybody be expected to function with such a slow app?

It was same for me, I changed mail type for IMAP (was POP) and it works.

  • MBA lion Mail issue: window disappears randomly

    hello:
Having some MBA 13' mail issues:
    1) mail window will disappear (only using cmd+0 shortcut will bring it back - or going to window>message viewer) randomly without any reason
    2) starting up a new email or new note then closing this note or email will close the entire message viewer window...why?
    3) emails deleted within the 'inbox' section will not delete in the Gmail section (setup as IMAP, with Gmail defaults)
I am a little concerned with 1 & 2 becuase these are huge user experience issues, it is the most frustrating thing to have to continually use the short cut to open up a window which should not have disappeared in the first place!!
any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

    Hi Fred
I've got the same issue. It seems to happen randomly but so annoying when it does. Upgrading to Mountain Lion hasn't helped and I've changed my keyboard and reset all the short-cuts to the default settings and still it happens in Mail and Microsoft Outlook for Mac when I'm typing a mail.
    Did you find a solution?

  • After Lion upgrade Mail can't move messages to trash or send new ones.

Since upgrading to Lion my mail programs have behaved oddly. In Entourage, the search mechanism does not find any messages. Switching to Mail, it is unable to delete messages or send new ones, though I can read mail.
Also I have tried sending docx attachments which the recipients are unable to open even though they normally can open docx. Did something change with Lion?

I messed around with both this morning, and Yahoo seems to work perfect. It will even sync to whatever you do on your computer online, for ex: I created a save folder for my emails and moved several emails from my inbox to my save folder online via PC. Any changes I made reflected on the iPhone as well and vice versa... I'm still having trouble with Gmail though, I even deleted my account and entered it back in. I also noticed that even if my emails are marked as read online, they still appear as new emails on the iPhone. Again only problems are with Gmail.

  • Issues with new Maverick Mail, issues with new Maverick Mail

Everytime I use Mail a window opens asking me my password for my Icloud account.
This started after I installed the new OS X Mavericks.

    Hi there,
We have similar problems plus many more. We have spoken to repair company's who will not take the job on now as they know they cannot fix any issues with Mac updates.
The lattest fix has not fixed my mail issues since the last update either!
Its a shambles and all my settings are correct, we have checked them three times but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone who of a reliable mail program for mac?  Im having to use my PC mail program now as Mac are so slow to repair there mistakes. Its costing our company thousands in downtime with the disruptive updates. Our Iphones dont work properly since thier last update either. One would have to ask whats going on with Mac? No preplys from there so called helplines.
WHATS MAC GOING TO DO ABOUT IT???

  • "Slow typing in Mail" issue continues in Lion

The "Slow typing in Mail" issue continues in Lion. Has anyone found a fix yet?

Well, when typing in MAIL, the letters manifest VERY SLOWLY. I am know ACE typist, and it can't keep up with me. I type even a few characters, and wait for several seconds for my textual desires to appear.
This was well discussed under Snow Leopard, I see.
Restarting the App often helps for several minutes, but no more.

  • Can't open new Lion Mail? - Try delete the file "Envelope index"!

Problem: can't start Mail.app after installing Lion. Mail.app repeatedIy crash when you accept the database upgrade.
    Possible solution:
In Finder use Go to Folder... and type "~/Library/Mail".
Delete the index file "Envelope index".
Start Mail and it should work nicely.
If you fear to delete it, move it to the Desktop. Go to step 3. If Mail works, it's safe to delete the file.
This simple solution is found on many comments in this forum.

FIXED!  My case was just successfully closed with Apple and I am now able to see my mail in Lion.  It took 2 days for Apple to come up with the resolution, and I was told that there were other cases of a siimilar nature reported.
Here's what fixed it for me.  The problem had something to do with smartmailboxes, which I use in my mail.
Close the Mail app and confirm it is closed.
Open a Finder window.  Hold down the Option key while clicking Go along the top menu bar in the Finder window and click on Library.
Navigate to the mail library under your user name.  In one of the subfolders, you will find 1 or more files named smartmailboxes.plist.  There may be a file name similar to that with "backup" in the name, as well.
Drag each of those files to your desktop and ensure they are no longer in your mail library folders.
Restart Mail.  (Those .plist files will be re-built automagically.)
This fixed my problem and I was then able to delete those plist files from my desktop.  It did take a little while for the .plist files to regenerate, though.
    Good luck with your fix.

  • Mail issues in Mountain Lion

Has Apple even attempted to fix flaws in Mountain Lion regarding Mail? Ever since I've purchased Mountain Lion, I have to "Force Quit" Mail in order to shut down my Macbook Pro.

Disable your Mail rules and see if that makes a difference.

  • Mountain Lion / Mac mail disconnects from MS Exchange server.

We use an MS Exchange account for our company email. We bought 2 new retina display MacBook Pros running Mountain Lion last Fall. My old laptop is still running Lion. Lion / Mac Mail works fine on the old laptop, never losing contact with the MS Exchange server. Mountain Lion / Mac Mail randomly loses contact with our exchange server on a regular basis. This results in a slow and painful re-download of 2 years worth of email while I have to resort to my old laptop to keep up with new incoming email. I check these discussions occasionally when I can find a spare moment and I have found some similar symptoms being complained about, but no solutions yet. There have been a couple of OS updates since we bought the new laptops, but alas, no mention of this problem. It seems no one is doing anything about it. Have I missed a post? Anyone have any suggestions? This is getting really old.
    Thanks!
    D

I was having the same issue! I finally found a solution to it!
    1. Delete your exchange account from the Mail, Contacts & Calendars pane in System Preferences.
    2. Go to Finder, click "Go" in the menu bar, click "Go to Folder" and type in "~/Library" (without the quotes) in the box. This will take you to your user Library folder.
    3. Use the search box in the finder and type in "com.apple.notes" and click "Library" in the search bar that appears. This should now find several folders and files related to the Notes app. Rename or delete everything except the help files (with the lifesaver icons on them). Just to be safe, I'll list the files and folders you should delete or rename and their directory paths:
    com.apple.Notes - /Users/danieloria/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/
    com.apple.Notes - /Users/danieloria/Library/Containers
    com.apple.Notes.plist - /Users/danieloria/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Preferences
    com.apple.Notes.savedState - /Users/danieloria/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Saved
    4. Restart your Mac. Put your exchange account back into System Preferences, you can go ahead and activate the Notes sync service.
    5. Open Notes and it should be working now!
NOTE: I also deleted all the stored information related to the exchange account in Keychain Access when I deleted the 4 com.apple files. This may or may not be necessary, but I just thought it was worth mentioning.

  • Transfer new mac wihthout mail

    Hi All,
I have a brand new MacBook Pro and I am looking forward to transfer everything but Mail. Since Mail in OS X Lion had many issues like missing folders, spinning wheel.
Now I want to transfer everything (User files + System preferences) but do not want Mail to be transferred from Old OSX Lion MBP.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

When you say "Now I want to transfer everything (User files + System preferences) but do not want Mail to be transferred from Old OSX Lion MBP" Do you mean the actual mailboxes that are currently on the old MBP? I am assuming you need to keep your mail on the old MBP?
If so what is to stop you from doing a complete transfer using the Migration Assistant and then deleting the mailboxes and settings once the transfer is complete?
Another way to do it is this. Make a copy of your mail on your old system to an external hard drive using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or Superduper, and once completed, on the old MBP go into /users/[username]/Library/mail/ and delete the whole V2 directory. you can then do your migration as normal.
    Hope this helps
    Jerry

  • Mail issues on iOS 8 (unread mail, accidental deletions)

    Hello,
ever since I updated my iPad 4 to iOS 8, I have had problems with my mail app. I hoped that it was a glitch and that updates would fix it, but now I'm on 8.1.2 and things remain the same. Here's what is troubling me:
The new unread e-mails in "All inboxes" are shown in parentheses behind each folder on the Mailboxes screen. (Same is true for the top left "Mailboxes" link while I'm reading an e-mail on landscape orientation.) Now, while the e-mails themselves lose the little blue dot as soon as I open an e-mail, the parentheses-marker remains the same, signalling to me that there are unread e-mails. Or rather: As I flip through my unread e-mails, all but one are registered as read. In the end, the top left corner always still says "Mailboxes (1)" even when I've read all e-mails. The only way to get rid of that "(1)" is by selecting another read e-mail. Then it disappears.
When swimping e-mails to lefts to reveal the options menu, half the time I don't even get far enough t reveal the red "delete" button before the e-mail is deleted automatically. I hardly dare swiping important e-mails to the left anymore because they might be deleted accidentally. (This is particularly annoying if I want to flag an e-mail.)
Rarely, but often enough to bother me, the mail app crashes while typing or reading an e-mail.
These are enough problems to make me ask for help. Would resetting the network settings help? Does anyone else have these problems? It's all involving the Mail app. Should I switch to a third party mail app instead?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks,
    Nils

I have the exact same issue! Works smooth as butter on iOS 8.1 but not Yosemite... I'm running the pre-seed beta Yosemite update which supposedly fixes some Exchange issues but it hasn't fixed this one!
Exchange remains unusable for me in Apple Mail in Yosemite...
