New Lion Server, New way to import multiple users?

In Snow Leopard Server there is no way to import more than one user without buying 3rd party software. Does anyone know if this has been addressed in OS X 10.7 ? I have 220 users to create and wanted to find or before I went crazy. Thanks very much.

Haven't tried this...but:
WorkGroup Manager 10.7 Server->Import...
It spawns a dialogue letting you choose a file and set various parameters like duplicate handling.

  • Mac Mini Server - Best Way to Enable Multiple Users to Connect via Remote Access Concurrently?

    Hi
Is there a limit on the number of users that can connect simultaneously via remote access to a Mac Mini running Mac Mini Server?

If you have the server application on your Mac mini there is an upper limit but it is so high that I wouldn't worry about it. Depending on how you will be using the server and what it will be supporting there is a practical limit based on performance not software. If you reach the limit of satisfactory performance, the solution is adding another Mac mini server.

  • I want to add a new Lion server to my network.

I am at the screen asking me if I I want to setup a new server or Transfer. Right now we have a 10.6 server that is doing the heavy lifting in our network.
My end goal is to use the new lion server to authenticate users, file sharing to osx and ios, vpn and maybe some server apps down the road.
My 10.6 server is now doing all of that. (minus the ios sharing and vpn)
What I like is to make the 10.6 server have some file sharing duties and well and a few other server apps, while the new Lion server authicates users, ect.
Will I be better off using the transfer wizard or just setting up new then configuring the two servers.
    Thanks!
If I have left out any important details please ask me.

You don't need to configure it manually. Just choose
Settings > Mail, Contact, Calendars > Add Account > Google
and enter your Gmail email and password.

  • Move just wikis to new Lion server (redirect one virtual host)

I have a bunch of services on my Mac Pro with Snow Leopard Server, including file sharing, VPN, subversion, wikis, several websites, a few webapps, etc.  I don't want to upgrade that server right now, but I'd like to try upgrading the wikis to Lion Server and Wiki Server 3.
How could I move the wiki's to Lion Server on another machine?  They are all accessed through a seperate virtual host.
We only have one public IP right now (I maybe could get a second public IP but don't want to just for this.)  Everything hits my router (dd-wrt device, so quite configurable) which sends port 80 (and most other ports) to my snow leopard server.
One idea would be to have the router redirect another port (8080 or something) to the new lion server, and then put a redirect page on the original wiki address (port 80) to redirect over to 8080, which would then go to the other server.  But that's not really ideal because then the users of my wiki would see it on a new port and a lot of times ports other than 80 are blocked by firewalls (not my firewall, but firewalls closer to my users.)
So does anyone have an other ideas on how to redirect the traffic of one virtual host to another internal machine behind NAT?
Separate question: any experience migrating a wiki from Wiki Server 2 to Wiki Server 3?  Did it work well?
    John

The best way to do this is to take the contents of /Library/Collaboration and put it in a location accessible from your newly set up Lion install.  In Server.app, enable Wiki, and run:
         sudo wikiadmin migrate -r /Path/To/Library/Collaboration
After that, start the wiki and you should be good to go.  You should bind your Lion server to the same Directory as the Snow Leopard server, to ensure permissions and users carry across successfully.

  • I have a new lion server and 4 lion laptops. The laptops loose connection to the shared documents and printers from the server after roughly 1 hour. By disconnecting and re-connecting wireless the connection is regained to shares and printers

I have a new lion server and 4 lion laptops. The laptops loose connection to the shared documents and printers from the server after roughly 1 hour. By disconnecting and re-connecting wireless the connection is regained to shares and printers. We can still surf the web when it goes down.

Ok 1st one. The warning restriction message relates to this line in main.cf:
    smtpd_helo_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated  permit_mynetworks  check_helo_access hash:/etc/postfix/helo_access  reject_non_fqdn_hostname  reject_invalid_hostname  permit reject_invalid_helo_hostname
The last reject occurs after the single word "permit" and is ignored.
    However, that's not the problem.
I'm not exactly sure what's happening, but this might be a clue.
It would appear that either postfix is not being able to create the socket for private/policy or it's somehow created with the wrong permissions.  You might need to ramp up the debug level to get a better idea.
You could check if it's being created by "netstat -a | grep private/policy" in terminal.
My guess is that it's not being created because there is no setup statement in your master.cf file, but I don't understand why postfix would be looking for it if it isn't set up.  Private/policy I think relates to grey listing.  Maybe gives you a hint.

  • Is there any way to create multiple users in a single shot in oracle db

Can Any one tell me, is there any way to create multiple users in a single shot in oracle database.

    Hello Nunhum,
I guess this was not my question.. This is not what I m asking.. I know there is not a single sql statement in oracle ,which could create multiusers alike UNIX/LINUX(OS LEVEL), Whatever you have written..is simple creating them one by one.
What I am expecting is to have PL/SQL statement which could help us in this regard.

  • Best way to assign multiple users security, privileges and workbook shares.

Is there another way to assign multiple users to a single workbook other than using the workbook management option. Something that can be done from the command line? How about assigning security and privileges from the command line?

You could consider altering the appropriate EUL tables directly - I'm sure someone has the code for this - but requires database interaction (and might not be supported by Oracle, etc.).
However, the concept or Oracle responsibilities (in Oracle Apps EUL) or Oracle roles (in Oracle database) is what's usually done. In fact, I don't like using users directly as if they go, etc. it's a pain.
Better to use pre-defined groupings that you probably already have (ie: Apps responsibility such as: AP Inquiry). You set the privs / security there and it takes effect for all users logging in with that responsibility / role.

  • Best Ways to Handle Multiple Users

First post....heres my question. Can anyone help me determine the best way to handle multiple users in itunes? Some Background:
My family shares one computer. We have on folder on the hard drive where we keep all our music files. I got an ipod and itunes and added some of the music to itunes and have pretty much used itunes for my music.
Now my girlfriend got an ipod and I am hoping to somehow keep her music away from mine so to speak. So that I can keep synching my ipod without adding a bunch of music I dont want.
Is there a way to handle this? So thankfull for any help!

There is an apple article on this here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
It sounds as though method 1 would be best for you.
Also see how to keep the music files in one place to avoid duplication:

  • Lion Server: new user can't connect

This is a local ethernet network, Mac Mini running Lion Server 10.7.4.
I created 2 new users with Server app, same specs as already existing users, but can't connect to the server with the new id's. I just don't undrestand what I'm missing. The old id's all work perfectly when I try to connect.

Check your Services' ACL with Server Admin. It may happen that the new users are included in groups which are allowed for some services, but the new users are not included automatically in this group.

  • Setting up new Lion Server - Accessing documents

We are in the process of upgrading from a 10.4.11 server.
We are not migrating anything over, and are starting from scratch. I've configured users and groups but had a question regarding documents.
On our old server, we used share points to store all our working files. In Lion, I see a "Give this group a shared folder" button. Inside that are "All My Files" and "Documents".
Is there any right or wrong way to store all our working files (small ad agency with art files that are accessed internally and externally). Would I be ok to use that for our working documents? Or should it be a folder somewhere else that is accessed through a share point?
Once I configure the folder on the Lion server I will be copying the files over from the old server
    Thanks in advance.

Well, you are again asking questions that don't have a clear answer.  Let's first look at the physical drive.
So, yes, the mini comes with two drives.  But if you are placing the OS on one drive and data on the other, you have no redundancy.  The mini is lacking enough redundant features, don't trust your data to a single drive.  I would recommend mirroring the two drives and storing OS and Data on the same volume or storing just OS on the internal drives and getting a raid capable device for your data.  Since the mini is a closed box, having your data outside at least allows you the portability in the event the mini fails.  Otherwise, when AppleCare tells you to ship them your mini that will not power on, away goes your data.
As for structure, I tend to work in this fashion.  Lets assume you are sharing from the boot volume.  It will look something like this:
    /Applications
    /Library
    /System
    /Shared Items
    /Users
I suggest doing something like this to avoid Apple's structure:
    /Applications
    /Library
    /System
    /Shared Items
    /SharedFolders
         /Share 1
         /Share 2
         /Share 3
         /Work in Progress
    /Users
But doing this, you are sharing the folders called Share 1, Share 2, Share 3, Work in Progress.  The parent folder, SharedFolders, is simply a container and requires no special permissions since users don't interact with it.  However, it makes a convienient container to targer for backup purposes.  So instead of defining a backup source for multiple folders, you simply do the one that contains all your shares.
Now the other big change that you will need to wrap you head around is that in 10.4.x you were likely using POSIX inheritance.  That no longer exists.  You can only set your shares to use ACLs.  Now this is generally a good thing.  However, if your crew is using CS4 and older, you are going to have an issue with saving to the share.  Especially with Photoshop.  If you are CS 5 and above you "should" be ok.
Protect your data.  Mirror the drives.  It is the only redundancy you have on a mini.  But remember... redundancy is not backup.

  • How do I install WordPress in the new Lion Server X?

How do I install WordPress within Lion Server? I have the Mountain Lion running plus the Lion Server X 2.0. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately that site doesn't cover half the issues.
For one its install location might not make the most sense - ~/Sites are useful for personal web sites, but probably not the best option for WordPress (even if this is going to be your own personal blog).
Part of this depends on how the site is expected to be used, so it might be OK, but that does need clarifying first.
Second, even though it's what the OP asked for installing WordPress is a small part of getting WordPress working. WordPress is a performance dog and to get any sense of acceptable performance you're going to need a cache server (typically memcached). You'll likely also need various PHP modules depending on what WordPress modules/features you want to use. For example, do you want to upload images to your blog? Well you'll need GD. What about some of the performance plugins that do things like minifying javascript and CSS. They'll need various things including memcached (so that the minified versions can be cached and not regenerated for every page view).
Oh, and then you'll have to consider security. WordPress has almost zero concept of security (seriously, it still assumes/requires FTP access to your site for updates).
So, at the risk of repeating myself, it's relatively easy to install WordPress. Getting it working well is another chapter (entire book?) all in itself.

  • Lion Server: How do I import into the central address book?

    Hello
I could successfully import addresses into the local address book of my Mac Mini (using the import function of the address book application).
However, I want the addresses to be in the central, shared address book of the Lion Server. I can't find a way to import there.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks! Martin

Never mind, I figured it out: Open the local addresses, select all, drag/drop to the desktop. Then open the server address book and drag/drop from the desktop.

  • Is there any way to import multiple video files into a Logic Pro X project ?

    Hi All,
Im working on score for a movie, I have multiple video clips that I need to make score for. Im wondering if there is a way to import all the video clips in to a single LPX project.
    Thanks.
    Ara

No, Logic allows only one video file per Project.
You have to edit them together in iMovie or Final Cut Pro first.
However, the common workflow in film scoring is one Project per cue, so if there are no overlapping music cues between the videos, it shouldn't be a problem
    Hope that helps

Can anybody help me? I've searched the whole web but cannot find a good answer.
Thank you very much in advance!

    G'day mate,
You are posting in the 10.7 Lion client forum, rather than the 10.7 Lion Server forum.
Thus it's quite likely that no-one here know the answer.
Here's the link to the correct forum:

  • How to create a new role : Need to send notifications to multiple users.

    Hi All,
I have a requirement where in I need to send notifications to multiple users
and no. of users in the list is not fixed.i.e. this builds up dynamically.
Kindly let me know how do I achieve this.
Also wanted to know where form the Workflow roles get created i.e. who inserts data into wf_roles and wf_user_roles tables. Is there any UI to create roles and associate users with them.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Yes - by default all responsibilities are defined as roles in the Workflow directory. You just need to identify the role that corresponds to the responsibility (look at ORIG_SYSTEM and ORIG_SYSTEM_ID columns, IIRC) and then send the notification to the role.
