New Lion Update Crashed my MacBook Pro

I posted a question earlier, then added information about the error message. This is a compliation of all of the error info.
Help! I ran software update and found there was one for my MacBook Pro. I went through the normal motions and got an error message saying that iPhoto download had a problem. The screen said to re-download which would probably fix the problem.  It didn't!  Now I get a black screen with funny writing, then a message in several languages to restart the computer. I've done this several times.  Help!!!!  Leaving on a busness trip tomorrow AM and need this laptop.
I had no problem downloading the update to my MacMini.
Additional info: the weird stuff on the black background starts with:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffff800064ba7b) Unable to find driver for this platform:    and a bunch of other stuff...

also, there was an earlier statement: debuggr called  <panic>
At
Carolyn Samit's  advice I tried starting up in Safe Mode. It didn't work.
Help, I need the computer tomorrow AM for business!!
I apologize for the double post, but I'm desperate.
Linda

My Macbook pro is 23 days old as of today and today it crashed on me 7 times. It seems to happen when I have firefox and spotify running. I bought this computer for my business and still need to install Adobe CS6. Is this a faulty computer. Can someone help?

  • Mountain Lion Update for my macbook pro FAILED!!!!

    Hi everyone,
I just updated my macbook pro yesterday. However, when time remained 19 minutes, the updated failed and a message popped out: 'Install Failed: OS X could not be installed on your computer.' It also asked me to restart and try installing again.
However, after I restarted, it was still unsuccessful and this same message popped out. Whenever I turn on my macbook pro, it just stays on the the update install process and I can't even quit it. I tried to choose Startup Disk, however, no system shown and I couldn't select the system I want to use to start up my computer. I just don't know what to do but I really need to use my macbook pro as soon as possible. I have to use the files on it to do something really urgent and important. If someone has encountered this problem and found out the solution, please tell and help me! I really need your kind help!!!! Thanks so much!!!!

  • Help! Lion OS update crashed my MacBook Pro

I was updating Lion and my computer was completely hung up....for a  lonnggg time....so I used the power button to turn it off....and now it won't boot.

    Saralou,
After some searching I tried this and I have got a little along the road.
At boot hold down the 'Option' button. Hopefully you will get two icons on screen one to restore from the
MacBook Time Machine backup. I hope you have made one!
It will take some hours to restore so I am waiting to see if that works out ok for me. It should do.

  • Lion has crashed my MacBook Pro

    Help!!!
I did an upgrade to Lion tonight. Did a back up to Time Capsule prior to download. Download, install and crash.
I get an error message that the hard drive is "locked" and cannot be upgraded. I tried to restore a back up...states file is corrupted. Tried reinstal from Snow Leapard disc, just tries to re-install Lion. Tried to erase the drive...again disc locked message.
What am I doing wrong? I have to use this computer in 6 hours for work.
    Scott

try booting off your sl disc and run disk utilities.  repair the hd if needed.  you may also need to have your backup drive connected and repair it.  hope that helps.

  • Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated the system to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. Why and what am I supposed to do?

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

    cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

  • Can I install iDVD (only) from an iLife 11 CD on a new (late 2011) on-line MacBook Pro/Lion purchase that no longer included it?

Can I install iDVD (only) from an iLife 11 CD on a new (late 2011) on-line MacBook Pro/Lion purchase that no longer included it?

Purchasing iLife 11 on disk is an easy thing to do. ILife 11 will include iDVD.
If you have iDVD on another Macintosh you can transfer it to your new computer. That procedure has been discussed here many times, if you do a search you will find that procedure.

Just installing a few updates from the Mac App Store for mountain lion on my 2010 MacBook Pro, during this it made a noise and then the screen and keyboard went off, like it is off. What happened, is it off...or should I just wait it out?

    What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

  • Recently, PS CS5 keeps crashing my MacBook Pro as soon as I start working.

Lately, PS CS5 seems to be the villain crashing my MacBook Pro 10.6.8. It doesn't happen with other software. I have run Diagnostics which didn't find any issues. I have upped the RAM on PS to almost 95%. I am thinking of buying new RAM but would like to avoid that if I can. thx.

Reboot the computer holding the option key (just like Capt Fred says) select OS X Lion as the Startup Disk in System Preferences
If you select the Startup Disk of Lion and reboot and still have a issue, it's likely you have a corrupt System Preferences plist file and it's not saving your changes. Please report that if's your issue, I'll show you how to recreate that file again.
    You can also
Reboot the computer holding the command (4 leaf clover looking) and the r keys down, you'll boot into the Lion Recovery Partition.
You can use Disk Utility to select and First AID >Repair and Repair Permissions.
See if you can boot normally or not. If not then:
    For File Recovery
Your going to need a blank external hard drive equal too or slightly larger than your internal drive.
Your also going to need a strong, fast, stable Internet connection to re-install Lion from Apple's servers, and your AppleID and password.
Hold command r and get into Lion Recovery Partition and use Disk Utility (careful) to select your external drive
Erase>Security option > Zero all Data, wait as it takes sometime to finish and checks the drive.
The Partition tab > click box, 1 partition, option GUID, format OS X Extended Journaled and give it name "External Lion" and click Apply.
    Next Quit Disk Utility
Install Lion onto the external drive reboot the computer and hold the option key down, select the external drive to boot from and setup the same user name as before on the internal drive.
Now access the internal drive of Lion and grab your files.
You can use the same procedure to erase Lion on the internal drive and reinstall Lion, all your programs and files from the external drive.

  • Seagate 500GB 7200RPM HD in my BRAND NEW 15.4" 2.66GHZ Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I just purchased a new 15.4" 2.66GHZ Macbook Pro (with SD card slot) and swapped in a Seagate 500GB 7200RPM HD. I've noticed a few pauses accompanied by various "clicks" from the HD. I tried Apple's Firmware update, but it doesn't work with this drive. The firmware updater throws up a window stating that "this computer does not need this update." Obviously I should have bought the HD directly from Apple, but since I didn't, is there any way to apply this firmware update to the aftermarket HD? If not, has anyone been able to resolve the issues with this drive?

    BennieLau,
Apple makes its claims on battery life. However, with Snow Lion as OS, a new battery will probably last around 7 to 7.5 hours. On Lion, however, it's probably 5-6 hours. There as a new update today, however, so it's impossible to determine the battery life at this point.
Several factors may complicate your battery life, so this is a rough estimate of battery life.
Useful info? Unuseful? Post here with your comments, compliments!

  • Trying to do a software update, but my macbook pro does nothing after it prompts me to restart

I am trying to do a software update on my Macbook Pro so I can update the new iTunes so I can start using my new iPod. Every time I go through the process of the computer searching for updates and confirming there are software updates, then being prompted to restart my computer, it does nothing. After my Macbook Pro turns on again, nothing pops up and I go into my information and it says I still have the old software. Nothing is prompting me to do the update after I restart my computer, or beforehand for that matter. HELP.

Are you really still running 10.6.2? If Software Update isn't working for you, you may want to try using the 10.6.8 combo update found here -->> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399.
If that doesn't work, call back...

  • How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8)

How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8) since November until now.  Mail will no longer download on the MacBook Pro and keeps asking for my password.

Mail should still be usable with your machine - but you'll need to update the settings to conform to the requirements of your system. Check with your ISP (like ATT, etc.) for the settings that will work with your Mail. Once you've updated this, you should be able to email like before.
For example, my ISP required that I go to Mail Preferences/Accounts and make sure the details conform to your email settings.
I have no idea of what your ISP is or what the settings might be, but this is likely the source of the problem.
