New logic board causing CRASH?
I just got my G5 back from the shop - the logic board crashed, so i got it replaced.
Since getting it back, my machine is completely freezing on me regularly - particularly when I use Mail.
A friend mentioned that this may have to do with the new motherboard having conflicts of some sort.
I am desperate and working on a deadline - can anyone help me!
PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)
take it back, all I can say.
sorry to hear about your problems.

Kernel panic.. with new logic board
Hi,
So I recently replaced my logic board after trying EVERYTHING to fix a somewhat frequently occuring kernel panic. Now however.. it has happened again.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I honestly feel like I've tried everything. Could it be bad RAM? I've changed the hard drive, done a fresh OS X install (perhaps its something in my settings from migrating my old stuff back over?), new logic board.. reset PRAM, every suggestion I could find.
Here is the old discussion before I changed the logic board. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3902490
Attached the latest crash log.

Any help at all or new fixes I could try would be greatly appreciated! Very frustrating!Cheers - I've run Rember a few times and it hasn't come up with any errors, but I've heard it's not a 100% accurate test. Looks like that's the only thing left it could be!

Facetime issue - after installing a new logic board due to liquid damage.
I installed a new logic board this week.. after installing the os x operation system and then upgrading it to mavericks and i used migration assistant to load my backuped user from an external disk.
I tried to log in using my apple id ( which is verified) it couldn't log in beacuse "could not sign in. please check your network connection and try again"
and i did all the updates of mavericks. i tried also before installing mavericks i thougt upgrading will fix it..
i saw on forums that i should add 2 DNS's (8888 and 8844) didn't work.
i tried connection to my phones hotspot - didn't work.
i also went to the firewall thing to allow it recieve cennections..
pleassee help!!
is there a way to reinstall the facetime or something?!?!?!My problem solved could possiblly be your solution: Check to make sure your system serial number is being read by your logic baord. If the tech forgot to reenter the serial number, it's a known issue for Facetime and Messages (apparantly not know enough yet though, no tech bulliten exists on the topic).
I spent several days trouble shooting my inablility to login to my account with Facetime or Messages (other cloud services worked) after upgrading to Mavericks. I went as far as doing a clean install on my hard drive after spending two hours with a baffled mac tech in a retail store and many hours searching the message boards.
I have never had a logic board (or hard drive) replaced on my Macbook Air, but somehow after the Mavericks update the logic board stopped reading the serial number on my system. It took a call to Apple and a ticket opened to engineering to figure this out (after I uploaded log files).
They were puzzled I experienced this without a logic board replacement, but it was indeed the root cause of the facetime and messages apps failing to log in, and said they'd run in to it recently more than once.
Wish I knew how to post this unbiquitously across all the boards for folks to troubleshoot by simply looking at their system info in the Apple menu; Apple scheduled an appointment for me at an Apple genius bar and it was fixed in fifteen minutes. -
Where can i buy a NEW logic board for my macbook pro 2012?
My video card has recently failed, in this model video card is sticked to logic board.
Does anyone know where i can buy a NEW logic board? Its a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro"Where" questions are more easily answered if you give your approximate location. Especially important if you live in the US because there is a low-cost repair option for which you can ask.
If you are out of warranty and you live in the US, the most cost-effective solution is a depot repair. Instead of fixing the computer in an Apple Store, it is sent to a central refurbishment center and they fix anything that's wrong (other than damage to the case and/or display) for a flat fee of around US$325. It takes about a working week but it is worth it. All the posts here from people who have availed themselves fo this option were glowing. -
Help! I have had my iMac G5 fitted with new Logic Board but it doesn't work
Help! I have had my iMac G5 fitted with new Logic Board but it doesn't work
I have just had my iMac G5 First Gen 1.8Ghz fitted with a new Logic Board under the Apple Repair Extension Programme for iMacs.
I got the iMac home from the repairers and switched it on and everything was working fine for about 2 hours and then all of a sudden the Error Page came up on the Screen (with a big On/Off Switch Logo) and it said I had to shut down.
So I shut it down waited a few minutes and then tried to re-boot it but nothing happened. All that happended was the Power Light in the Right hand corner came on..but nothing else....
Help! Any ideas what to do please? If you have an external firewire drive (it has to be firewire, USB won't boot on a Rev A), plug it in to the firewire port and turn it on, then boot your iMac and see if it shows on the screen.
Have you tried to hit the eject (up arrow, the last button on the top row of the keyboard) button when you boot, perhaps the repairers left a disc in the drive? Then try and put your install disc in.

Keys 5-9 no longer work after water damage. Do I need a new logic board?
I had the smallest amount of water on my fingers when I typed something on my keyboard and now keys 5-9 no longer work. Will I need a whole new logic board for this? I've been into two Apple stores and both say I need to book an appointment online. I've been online and tried to book in at three different Apole stores within my area and I just get 'there are no slots available' how am I supposed to get this fixed if I can't book a session to see some!?! Sort it out Apply, it's why your products cost so bl**dy much isn't it!?
thanks, but I really don't think its the logic board since I can still plug in head phones and i can hear movies, etc.
also when i don't have my magicJack plugged in to make calls they now give you a magictalk dial pad to make calls and when i plug in the headphones again i can talk through the speakers and be heard and I can hear them too. Is there something I can used to maybe pull out the connection. I think it thinks the headphones are plugged in all the time. -
I can't find the serial number for my mac after getting a new logic board on recall for my macbook pro.
You can open System Profiler and see if it contains your serial number.
Or have the computer near a previous connected Wifi or on a Ethernet cable to your router.
Reboot holding the D key down for like what would appear to be 10 minutes until Hardware Test appears on the screen.
You can run a test if you wish.
There is a pane at the top if selected will give you your new serial number.
You also can use Terminal
You can quickly retrieve any Macs serial number via the command line by using the following command string:
system_profiler |grep "r (system)"
The command results will look something like this:
$ system_profiler |grep "r (system)"
Serial Number (system): C24E1322XXXX
If that fails you can give them your MAC address which is unique to each machine and there are records at Apple with it.
Open Utilities > Terminal. Copy, paste and press enter:
For your computers Ethernet (wired) MAC address: ifconfig en0 | grep ether
For your computers Airport (wireless) MAC address: ifconfig en1 | grep ether -
I have an early 2011 i7 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9.4. Earlier this week I had Geniuses at the Apple Store install a new logic board to replace a failed one. My hard drive was not touched. Anyway, when I got home and launched iTunes, I discovered that none of the tens of thousands of legally purchased songs in my iTunes library were listed, even though they actually still exist in my Music folder. Additionally, my attempts to login to the iTunes Store with my valid and correct and accurate and current Apple ID with the correct password, did not work. In fact, no errors were generated. The logins simply erased my input after clicking SIGN IN and then the "Sign In" form came back empty.
As a developer and 28+ year user of the Mac, I was a little stunned to say the least. The Apple Store logic board replacement process should take into account iTunes authentication problems when replacing failed logic boards, but this issue was not discussed at all, in any form during the repair intake process. So, I now have a 'fixed' MacBook Pro that will not acknowledge my thousands of legally purchased songs and will not let me log into the iTunes Store with my valid credentials or authorize or de-authorize my Mac.
Indeed, iTunes Match is also disabled, which means $30 thrown away in paid subscription.
Does anyone know a workaround to this Apple flaw that can correct their mistake and re-enable my Mac for using my thousands of legally purchased songs?
Any feedback would be most appreciated!
Thanks,
LarryHaving your main logic board replaced wouldn't erase music from your hard drive, if it was actually stored on the drive. Your iTunes music resides in your user home folder in a folder called Music.
When you do get a logic board replaced, however, it is a good idea to have the computer first de-authorized from iTunes since you are only permitted to associate your iTunes Store account DRM purchases (movies, tv shows, and older digital-rights-managed music) with up to five computers. See Deauthorize your computer using iTunes.
When a new logic board is installed, you'll need to reauthorize the Mac again. It's not the end of the world, however, if this step wasn't initially taken. See Authorize your computer using iTunes.
...As for not seeing your music when you launch iTunes—try point iTunes to the correct location of your iTunes folder. To do this, quit iTunes. Press the option key and click the iTunes icon in the dock. It will then ask you to navigate to the location of your iTunes music (again usually located in the Music folder in your home folder). -
New logic board and network connection problems
My late 2007 MBP just had a new logic board installed. I have home and work wireless networks that are configured to connect automatically. This always worked flawlessly in the past. My MBP would find the network, connect and all was well. Since I've had the new logic board I'm having issues. The wireless network will be detected but an IP address is not assigned so I can't get on the network or internet. Both my home and work networks were set to assign a specific IP address to my computer. The MAC address detected by the router is correct, at least according to System Preferences.
The only way I can connect is to disable the firewall (Allow all incoming connections). When I do this I connect immediately to the network and everything works as normal. I can even turn the firewall back on and everything will be fine, that is until I leave work and turn the computer on at home. Then I have to go through this again. And then again when I go to work in the morning. I've tried deleting my router profile and resetting from scratch, deleting the network profiles in System Preferences and re-detecting. I don't know what else to try. It's an annoying problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
KevinI think I have it fixed. One of the solutions I read about had to do with the 10.5.7 upgrade. I have always installed the smaller upgrades, not the larger "combo" upgrades. One tip suggested installing the full combo upgrade because, among other things, it re-creates two specific files that control how the computer interacts with the network. I installed the combo upgrade last Friday and connected without difficulty to the network at my office this morning. If I connect just as easily when I get home tonight I will consider the problem solved.
Cheers!

Time Machine Restore After New Logic Board
Older iMac (2009) had hard drive and logic board replaced. Running latest system (10.10.2) before and after logic board replacement.
When attempting to restore from a Time Machine backup made prior to the new logic board, although the iMac sees the Time Capsule and the "Data" file, attempts to proceed with the restore are met with error message "There was a problem connecting to the server [name of Time Capsule] - contact your administrator."
Any experience with this issue? Anybody successfully perform a restore following a new logic board?
Thanks very much.I would refer you to visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with Time Machine and full system restore. It also provides instruction on how to restore a backup from another system or Time Machine backup drive.

I have a MacBook Pro running leopard, that just had the logic board replaced. I haven't picked it up yet, but I am told that my hard drive and data were not touched.
I have read Pondini's very helpfull info/site, so I know that time machine will want to start a new set of backups.
Here is my question, based on my setup: in addition to the internal HD, I have a firewire drive for additional storage of files. Time machine backs up both volumes to another, larger, FireWire drive
Now, after the new logic board, will time machine make a whole new copy of the external storage drive as well as the internal? Or just the internal?
Basically, I know time machine will think it's on a new machine, but will it treat the external storage as if it were new as well?
I would appreciate any help or advice you can give me. Thanks.Still no answer? I do have the same trouble on my iMac G5 PPC with 10.5.8: I just replaced the MOB and Time Machine insists to create a new bkup! Attempted with "tmutil" command but doesn't work on my OS...it is really impossible to tell the machine to learn the new address? I DON'T want to believe it!
Tks for any help -
Hi,
My imac G5 was revving up quite a bit and acted like I was downloading something all the time. I thought it might just need the fans to be cleaned but I took it into the genius bar and was told that they guy "thinks" that I need a new logic board but isn't positive and would I like to look at the new imacs. ( I love looking at the new imacs but it's not in my budget). He said it would cost close to $800.00 to repair my imac. I edit video on it and it's also become the family computer. Any suggestions? Do I put the money into replacing the logic board? Do I put money into expanding the memory on my macbook pro that only has 2 gb of memory?Has it been shutting down unexpectedly?
There was a repair extension program for some of these iMacs which suffered from defective capacitors on the Logic Board and the Power Supply. It's been closed since Dec. 08, but I've heard of people appealing to Apple Customer Service anyway and getting the repairs covered. First you should open the computer and determine if the capacitors on the Logic Board are swelling or leaking at all. If so, you might be able to convince Apple to do the repairs. 1-800-275-2273. If at first you get turned down, ask to speak to a higher level rep.
Tell them how unfair you think it is that those who had the problem before the program closed were covered, and it was just your bad luck that your computer lasted a bit longer. You can also say that had you opened it up earlier, you probably would have seen the bad capacitor issue developing before the program closed. They are numerous little cylinders about 3/4 inch tall. The tops should be perfectly flat. No brownish gunk. Inspect it very carefully. You won't be able to look inside the Power Supply easily, though. If your iMac is not an iSight, it's very easy to open up. Just three screws at the bottom. Have a look here for illustrated instructions for your model. If it is an iSight, probably best not to try; a bit too complicated. Or you might just call the repair service and ask exactly why they thought it needed a new Logic Board. Did they see bad capacitors?

Where Can i buy a Brand New Logic Board for my Macbook Pro?
My Macbook Pro (Mid 2010 13") logic board got fried, so i was just wondering if possible, where i could get a new logic board. Also, would the new 2011 i7 logic board (if purchasable), for the 13" as well be compatible with the chassis/body of my mac?
Apple would be the main supplier of any replacement parts.

Can I buy a new Logic Board for an iBook G3 700 12"?
The Logic Board in my iBook G3 700 12" just died. My local reseller says it doesn't qualify for the replacement program.
Anyone know where can I get a NEW Logic Board for my iBook?
I don't like the thought of buying a used on on eBay and having the same problem 6 months from now.
Thanks!
AwfersHi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Yes, but the best place I know actually installs it for less money than they charge you for buying one outright:
http://www.dttservice.com/ibookg3.html#ibookrepair
They offer a six-month warranty, which is better than most places (including Apple's own 90-day warranty on repairs).
