New Login can't see Music on External Disc

I recently created a new user on my computer, which I am now using as my primary login.
Under my <old> login, I had defined the location for my library in a folder on an external drive, let's say E:\foo\.
When I logged in under my <new> login, I went to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and made sure it was pointing to E:\foo\. However, my library still wouldn't show up in iTunes.
So I uninstalled the software and reinstalled under my <new> login. I went to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and noted that the library path still pointed to E:\foo\. However, my library is still not loading.
Any ideas?
-Greg

Figured it out.
1) Went to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and turned off the "import into library" option.
2) Went to File>Add to Library and chose the shared folder (E:\foo\).
That added 'em in.
Then turned the Import into Library checkbox back on again.

  • New computer -- can't find music on external drive - what am i doing wrong?

I have searched previous posts and cannot seem to find an answer.
Up until recently, I ran iTunes from my desktop, and housed the music on an external hard drive. Recently, I purchased a new laptop and transferred applications and files over from the desktop using Windows Easy Transfer.
I thought that simply pointing my laptop to the iTunes Music Folder location on the external hard drive was all I needed to do (F:\iTunes\MyMusic) but I seem to be mistaken, as I am getting the “iTunes cannot find the original files” messages when I click to play songs.
Have I missed something incredibly obvious here? I’ve been futzing around with this for a while now and tend to think I am missing the easy fix.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Thank you for your response. The drives are in fact different letters -- I changed the drive name to correspond the original drive letter...but that doesn't seem to have fixed the problem.
Where I seem to stand is:
Old computer (with iTunes library) + external hard drive (with iTunes music) work just fine.
New computer -- iTunes library copied from old computer, iTunes music folder identified in iTunes, but iTunes can't find the music.
At this point, am I better off starting from scratch with the new computer (in terms of installing iTunes and moving my library over from my old computer)?
And if so, what would be the best way to approach this?
    Thanks much.

  • I can't see music/video files from my iPad2 or Nano on my Phillips home theatre. Do I need to covert the files?

I can't see music/video files from my iPad2 or Nano on my Phillips home theatre. Do I need to covert the files?

The problem is I can no longer back up my photo and video files taken on my phone, saved to my mac, by copying them and saving them on a USB stick or other external hard drive.
Select the photos and videos in Photos and use the command "File > Export"  and select a folder on your USB stick to save the photos to.

  • O-Suite can't see music on SD card & Won't accept ...

I seem to have to problems with Ovi Suite - Or is it just me?
    (1) Ovi Suite can't see any of my music which is on my 32 gig SD Memory Card (the obvious place for it).  My N8 doesn't have any trouble seeing it!
    (2) Ovi Suite won't let me nominate my music library location, because it isn't on the C drive.
Effectively, I can't use Ovi Suite for my music for these 2 reasons - Currently I'm using drag & drop to load music onto the N8
    Thanks
    Okama

Did you try adding watch folders from Tools-Music. Add new watch folder... Note that Ovi suite does nt support adding watch from external hard drive and other external media.

  • New Computer can't see Apple TV

    Hey Gang,
I have a mac book pro that I had been using to sync to my apple to tv. I recently bought a mac pro and did the migration to it but the new one can't seem to see the TV even though I marked in preferences for it too. Are their any suggestions of things that maybe I did wrong? The laptop can still see it but it is gonna be a pain if I have to keep disconecting the external drive that holds all the media in order for to use it on the laptop for syncing.

I was meaning more in respect of migrating your itunes library. It's not necessary to try to copy over the itunes application itself. Indeed it should already be on a new mac, you may however need to update it to 7.3.1. What you should have done in brief is move your itunes folder (~/user/Music/iTunes) from your old mac to your new one, connect the external HD with your music on, open itunes and ensure that the HD is selected as your music folder location. I'm assuming you have done this.
You will also need to turn of syncing between your old mac and the tv (it will only sync with one itunes library) and register your new one as the primary source (the pass code thing), you could then register your old mac for streaming only if you wished.
Everything should now be working for you. If not where do things start to go wrong for you/how far do you get.

  • Consolidated Library to new drive can't see with iTunes

I added a new HD and moved the music per the instructions. Worked fine, then I moved "My Documents" folder w/XP to the new drive and it moved the iTunes folder (which your not supposed to do). Now it can't see the songs in the library even though the songs are in location specified under preferences. XP had copied over iTunes folder to new drive, I tried to re-create correct path on original drive and move folder back, but it still doesn't work. I have the "iTunes Music Library" and "iTunes Library" (data) files. How can I get iTunes to see the library again?

First you have to let the new itunes installation know where the songs are, on your new PC.
Second, you have to play at least a few seconds of a purchased track so the new PC will get authorized.
How did you move your music over to the new PC? Did you move the itunes library database file over, also?

  • My Mac Can't See Files on External Hard Drive

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble with my iMac today. It can't see any files on my NTFS External Hard Drive after a sharing change, I'm using Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX v8.0.0.
Yesterday evening I tried to share the drive over my network by clicking System Preferences / Sharing / File Sharing and then adding the drive as a shared folder. It is since doing this that I cannot see my files on this external HD. I have a second NTFS HD here which I connected and I can see the files on that drive so I don't think it's a software issue.
I have tried a few things to try and fix it but to no avail.
    1. I have tried removing it from the shared folder list but that hasn't solved the problem. I tried adding it a second time just in case but that didn't do anything either.
    2. I have repaired the disk permissions via disk utility
    3. I have tried "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder" to show hidden files but they still don't appear. I have reversed this so hidden files are no longer visible.
If I connect the drive to my Windows 7 laptop I can see and access all of the files.
I hope someone can help out with this issue. If you need any other information just let me know.
    Kind regards,
    Kim

I had the same problem but only after I upgraded to Lion. I could see the files on my external drive on other Macs using older software. It seems that Lion wasn't seeing old files on the external drive. So we accessed the files on a Mac using Snow Leopard, copied all the files into one new folder on the same external hard drive and now they're there on Lion. Problem solved! I hope this helps

  • New user can't see old bus. areas in Admin Version

    Hello,
I created a business area in the admin version with my old Oracle user id. I have a new Oracle user id. When logging on with the new userid to the admin version, I can't see this business area.
Yes, I added access to both admin, and end-user to the new user within discoverer
Yes, I added this business area to the new user within discoverer.
Is it a DB issue not having "create procedure" or something like it for the new user?
    thnx
    Endre

When adding a business area to a new oracle login, you also need to check the 'Allow Administration' checkbox for that business area. I'm guessing that is what's missing.

  • New computer, can't see downloaded songs in iTunes

I have a new computer, IBM thinkpad and when I hooked up my ipod to the newly downloaded ITunes it recognized my ipod (name and all!) but I can't see my songs in the itunes window. I have hit "sync" it shows updating, but my songs still don't appear in the window.
The songs are ok on the ipod, at least i didn't delete them as i've done in the past!
    Help!!!!

Just hit the arrow to the left side of the ipods name
in iTUnes, then select "Music" under the ipods name
That did it!!! Thank you so much!

  • Can't see music on iPod

I cannot see my music on my iPod. I do not even see the "Music" folder nor any playlists. However, I know the music is there because I can Shuffle and play the music. I am not sure what I did to cause this but I just recently removed all music from my iPod by connecting to a new PC with an empty library.
I have since copied my library from an old laptop to my new laptop. I have done a Sync, as well as manually managed the music. I've tried resetting the unit as well. Everything in iTunes looks perfect. I just can't see the music.
I have an old 40GB classic (the big clunky unit).

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I have a feeling this doesn't apply to older iPod models such as yours, but it may be worth a shot. Try heading to Settings -> Main Menu and making sure there is a check mark next to Music to show the Music menu on the iPod by hitting the Center button to place the check mark.
If that option is not available, I would recommend [Restoring|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339] the iPod via iTunes. This will reset everything on the iPod to factory settings and allow you to start from scratch with the iPod.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot see music on external drive

I just upgraded to itunes 7 and I cannot see my music on my external drive. I have had access and all of a sudden it can't see it. The music is there but won't display in iTunes. Any thoughts?

I don't know enough about iTunes for Windows to help you with this. But if you post your question in the Using iTunes for Windows forum you will get help from people who know more about this.

  • New iMac can't see Laserwriter Select connected to a PC on same LAN-- why?

I've just returned to the Mac universe after a five year hiatus. When I discovered how well Macs play with PCs and Unix these days, I decided to come back.
There's just one issue: I can't print to my Laserwriter Select 360, connected by parallel port to a Windows XP Pro PC on my LAN. My new iMac doesn't see the printer at all. The imac does see the PC's workgroup in the Network Neighborhood, and I can mount the shared volumes of that PC on the mac with no problem, so the Mac can talk to the PC for filesharing, anyway. (smb:// address used)
Applecare has no clue why I can't see the printer. They told me to turn on Windows Sharing and Print Sharing, but that had no effect. The Windows machines on my LAN can all see and print to the shared Laserwriter Select 360, no problem. They're all running Windows XP pro, latest patches.
The iMac of course has the latest Tiger. All machines are on my internal subnet 192.168.0.*.
I just got a new cartridge for the Laserwriter, and there's no reason to retire it-- that printer works great. I just can't believe/accept that the iMac can't be made to print to an Apple printer! (Also, I've heard that appletalk->ethernet bridge solutions are flaky so that's not an ideal route).
    Any/all ideas welcome.
    imac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Here's the result. The PC is on 192.168.0.2, and the iMac was assigned .18 by DHCP.
I just tried adding a lexmark printer to the PC (over USB) to see if there might be some difference. The other windows box on the lan sees the LexMark same as it sees the Laserwriter (and both show up in the output of smbclient below). Needless to say, the iMac doesn't see the LexMark either.
