New look forum

So you either like, loath or find it indifferent.......but
Is Premiere and other Adobe software so bug free that they can afford wasting time and effort of Adobe staff in changing a forum that was not broken?
Adobe you have your priorities wrong.
Mind you Grass Valley has done the same, now grass in most parts of the world is green, now their forum is purple, thats life

There's only so much you can sandbox until you feel it's functioning correctly and only a mass merge will reveal any necessary tweaks. You can all imagine merging pentabytes or exabytes worth of information with self-customized 3rd party (Jive) software, and getting it absolutely perfect first shot.
Weighing that must happen. Spend another year of development time perfecting the merge, or save the time/cost, get it extremely close and patch where necessary.
The last forum overhaul had the same mass confusion but rest assured, just as you're thinking you were fine with how it was before, it will be like that once again.
I do like the new self profile, connections and socializing aspects. They essentially merged fragments of LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter into the site. Now you'll have circular discussions, followers and a blog-esque place to post to your connections.
I also am sad to see that I cannot see the dozen or so past posts I was helping in activity so to those people, I'll find you and finish helping eventually, just let me get my shades, there's so much bright white around here .

  • Using the new-look forums, asking for positive comments

    Dear Fellow Users,
I am starting a discussion on how to make the most of this revised website for Apple Support Communities. Please keep this discussion positive. Please confine complaints to one of the many negative threads.
Remember that many of these changes are the result of feedback to Apple. We may have got what we wished for.
    Gains:
    - Spell checker in the Reply box;
    New ways of working:
    - The blue dot has gone. I can't tell which discussions I have or haven't read.
Tip by deggie. In the home page of a forum, click to the right of the address bar of your browser, add /content at the end of the URL. Press enter. You will see three options across the page just above the threads: All Content, User Tips and Discussions. Click on Discussions. Threads with new content will have titles that are in bold. Now save that page in your browser bookmarks. For example, my bookmark for the 'Using Apple Support Communities' forum, shows this URL:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/using_apple_support_communities/content? filterID=contentstatus%5Bpublished%5D~objecttype~objecttype%5Bthread%5D
And the view is Bold for unread
    - The forums keep logging me off after a period of inactivity.
Good. That may stop the spammers posting multiple messages that have nothing to do with the purpose of a forum.
    More gains or workarounds, anyone?
    Regards,
    Ian.

You guys are worse than the complainers we get with iOS or OSX updates (and this is not directed specifically at you PV - you were just the last post). As Yellowbox indicated, there are already a plethora of negative posts about the changes. So, go there and complain.
People don't like change, OK, I get that. But seriously, when it is foist upon you, ******** and moaning isn't going to put it back the way it was. Why not spend all that energy in trying to figure out the way to make the most out of what you have been given. Not everything about the new site is horrible. Sure there are improvements to be made, but we are supposed to be people with creative minds, interest in challenges, abilities to suss out the more esoteric aspects of things.
As I indicated in one of my earlier posts, because I have a catholic approach to reading the boards, I am not seeing some of the issues that folks who like to support specific communities are having. But, for my purposes, I find it much easier to move back and forth from current posts, posts that I have responded to, posts that I have authored. When looking at Content>All, I am not having any difficulty seeing what the current posts are, and if I want to see if a post I have been involved with is updated, it is a quick click to the Participated link to see which of those posts have been updated recently, and which I have already responded to after they have been updated.
I would like to see some enhancements and changes made, and I think that the valid issues that people are having need to be addressed. But I would like to see more tips like the ones deggie has provided coming from all of us. The whining and complaining is just boring....
    Just my 2 cents....

  • New Look of Oracle JDBC & UCP Forum

    Hi All,
We have enhanced existing Oracle JDBC & UCP forum with a new look.
You will now find all Oracle JDBC resources such as latest white papers, FAQ, Blogs, Tweets etc., in this forum.
Please post your JDBC & UCP questions specific to Oracle Database here at Oracle JDBC & UCP.
Note that this forum is only for Java related JDBC questions.
    Thanks,
    Nirmala

    Kmensah-Oracle wrote:
The generic Java Connectivity is inherited from SUN and destined for questions related to JDBC spec and every vendor while the Oracle JDBC forum is dedicated to our drivers. These two were joined for a moment, by mistake.
However, if the community strongly feels we should re-join, we can look into that.
    Kuassi @kmensah)
Re-joining would be MY preference. I first posted a 'why two forum' question in the community feedback forum last year when I first discovered that 'other' forum:
Why are there two DIFFERENT JDBC forums?
That second forum only has three recent threads and, so far as I know, just became visible when some recent changes were made to the Jive software.
    It is located at
All Places > Database > Database Developer Tools > JDBC
Can someone research and determine if that second forum should just be consolidated with the main JDBC forum? I contribute ALL of the time to the other forum as does one of the JDBC developers. I never knew this other one existed so I doubt if people will get much help there.
If you read the thread you will see that I never got a reply from anyone.
But the comments above that I made then still apply. Joe Weinstein (one of Oracle's JDBC experts) and I have been the top contributors on this current forum for some time. I don't believe either of us posted in that 'other' forum and I didn't even know it existed. The link in my thread above to the original 'other' forum still works but gives an 'unauthorized' message so I assume it is now an internal Oracle site.
My opinion is that people with a JDBC question and just going to post in the first one they find which is usually this forum I am in now. I don't think the general public will understand the 'fine' distinction you provided above for Oracle related versus non-Oracle related JDBC questions.
So the main issue for me is that there is no good way to respond to someone that posts their question in the WRONG jdbc forum. For other forums we just do NOT reply to the question but ask them to post in the correct forum and provide a link to it: I run across this most frequently in the Sql Developer forum and usually respond with:
    Wrong forum!
This forum is ONLY for Sql Developer quesstions and your question is NOT related to Sql Developer. Please mark this thread ANSWERED and repost it in the Sql Developer forum
    SQL Developer
The result is that by providing the link to the correct forum the Jive software creates a SECOND thread in that other forum.
The bulk of the JDBC questions posted in this current forum are, in fact, for the Oracle database. The few that aren't are easily answered by providing what help we can, suggesting additional info that needs to be provided and then suggesting that they post in an IBM, Sql Server or other vendor forum for the JDBC product for their database.
Havng just ONE forum for JDBC would make it easier to provide a higher level of support to users in my opinion.

Hi everyone, I have been following this forum for a long time now but not posted previously.

Random reboots about twice a week.
Freeview randomly switches to menu view with a red banner warning that there is no broadband. This banner is only on for a few seconds. This has only started during the last software update.
Samsung TV will now not recognise the HDMI output without toggling through the AV inputs. Prior to the last couple of software updates you could get round this by switching the vision box on prior to the TV. On the classic software it didn't matter what was switched on first, I could immediately view vision through HDMI. (I'd be interested if anyone else is experiencing this or whether it is just a shortcoming with my TV)

  • I am new this forum.

    Hi alll,
    I am new this forum.
I have a JTree that allows mutliple selections. I need to iterate through each of the selected nodes and do some processing on them. I thought I'd add them to a hashMap. Unfortunatley, I'm having trouble getting at the nodes themselves. looking back at a similar problem I tackled a while ago, I got round it by using tree.getLastSelectedPathComponent().
I can't generalise to get at all the selected Componenets though.
I can get at all the selected paths though. Does this help ? Can I get at the node, from its TreePath ?
    Cheers,
    Kate

    Hi katedamond,
You can get a node from the path using TreePath.getLastPathComponent().
It will returns the node at the end of the path.
I hope this will help you out.

  • New look for Arch website?

Just noticed the Arch site has a new look, and the title graphic is now a link
Nice work!  Still nice and clean, just like Arch.
My only (admittedly small) gripe is that it looks quite blue on my monitor here at work.
I think I prefer the #f9f9f9 background of the forums to the new #eeeeff, but otherwise -- LOVE IT!

Is there a reason package search box is so big?  Header needs same padding as body on L and R, logo too small, looks like a wiki page.
Meh old one was perfect IMO
While I agree the old one was fine; MANY MANY people just couldn't/wouldn't see it.  You could direct them to the main page and say search for a package there and WAYYYY to many ppl would come back and say "I can't find it"
Just my guess as to the reason for different size/bg color of the search box

  • Why Is Search so Poor in this new BC Forum?

Searching this new BC forum for "shipping address" returns exactly one article in done with quotes, and three articles without quotes.
If you search the old BC forum on BusinessCatalyst.com for "shipping address" it returns more than 100 articles.
Why is the searching so poor on this new forum?
Has all the old content been migrated from old forum to new?

Thats why though if you look at the BC forums compared to the other Adobe Forums Lynda this is a lot better layed out with extra navigation links, useful links and sticky items and well made documents and a already big FAQ Section
Nothing is ever perfect but these are way better then the last lot and like Mario said. Once this starts populating more things like Search will return better results.
But like Mario said, the quick search bits has been noted, I think Mario is looking/pressing on further improvements to that if possible.

  • New Look BT Vision - is 1080i ever coming back ?

    Hi all,
Just been upgraded to the new look BT Vision, I've been dreading it after reading all the comments on here lately, but I actually quite like it so far.
My query is regarding the loss of 1080i though, I know its been mentioned before but I can't find anywhere if its 'coming soon' or never coming to the new software ?
The box can clearly do 1080i, as it did before the upgrade quite happily for a few years
My TV looks 'blurry' with only 720p and looks great in 1080i, so the upgrade is a step backwards in that respect.
One other question does anyone know if there is a way to see signal strength as there was with the old software ?
    cheers
    Ian

1080 is available on the boxes with 512 of RAM. Yours will be an older one with 256 RAM and I'm afraid the 1080 option will never be available on that version of the box.
Re Signal Strength, that useful option had been removed - don't ask me why

  • Problems installing the new 'Look And Feel' done by Francios Degrelle

I have download the new verison of the new 'Look And Feel' from
    http://sheikyerbouti.developpez.com/forms-pjc-bean/LAF/sources/v133/LAF_133.zip
1- I defined a new section in formsweb.cfg named summit in the middle tier (AS 10g Rel2):
    [Summit]
    baseHTML=base.htm
    baseHTMLjinitiator=basejpi.htm
    baseHTMLjpi=basejpi.htm
    baseHTMLie=baseie.htm
    HTMLdelimiter=%

    IE=JInitiator

2- then I put a copy of the file 'forms.css' in the middle tier in the folder :
    apache\apache\htdocs
so as to be on the path and then modified PM$CSS_FILENAME in all forms to be 'forms.css' instead of 'c:\forms.css' and recompiled.
3-I put a copy of the file 'laf.jar' in the folder : 'd\Ora_AS\forms\java' in the middle tier and added this path to the classpath environment variable.
4- I restarted the middle tier and wrote this URL:
    http://test/forms/frmservlet/config=summit
the customers form opened but with no background images,I added the following to the URL '&form=test_laf_color_scheme.fmx',the form opened with the default color scheme to 'purple',I changed it from a drop down list to orange and all buttons background color degraded to orange.
    My questions:
1-where are the background images ?
2- I cannot compile the 'laf.pll' file to 'laf.plx',when I compile I get this error:
    FRm-91507 -internal error
    P.S. I read this thread :
FRM-91507 when compiling a library with Forms 6i
and I didn't understand it,where do I change the Forms_Path? in the forms Home release 1 or Forms home release 2?!!!
3-Is the 'forms.css' file properly located? if not? where do I put it?
Sorry for the long scenario but I'm really confused?
    Thanks
    Mohammad

    Hello,
I'm curently out of everything so I cannot answer this one. All I can tell is that images are read from the client machine or jar file. If you want read images from the application server, you need the http:// syntax.

  • HT1430 I have updated to iOS 7 but I really hate the "new look" of all my pre-installed Apps and the home scrfeen, dialling screen, contacts etc. It's really baby-ish and I would like to regain my previous appearance. Can I do this? If not can I uninstall

The new look iOS 7 is all "pretty" turquoises, lime greens and sky blue and the size of my Apps filed in their boxes are so tiny as to be illegible and the names in Contacts etc are allmuch, much smaller and totally impossible to read.
I absolutely hate it - it is not an "improvement"!
How can I go back to my previous settings, if at all?
If this is the way Apple is going then a completely different phone might have to be the way forward -surely we can have a choice - if Microsoft can continue to offer Classic as a look in windows, surely I can keep a classic iPhone appearance???
I am an older professional - I do not want a phone-screen which looks a like a jart of sweets - I want my highly organised, easy to read, filing system back please!!
Am I the only Luddite out there?

    Two mayor reason:
    1) If you restore the  backup in your iPad some file is corrupt or make conflict, but you have wipe your iPad and you have restore all the apps from zero, and nothing happend, try to wipe your ipad and try to install the email and your icloud account (if you have) and make a test, if working fine add one by one the other apps and test, when you find the apps give you a prob try to install all apps without this apps and make a backup for the future.
    2) If nothing happend ask the test on a Genius Bar near you maybe is an hardware problem i think.
    Best regards

You have to swipe from right to left to delete mail.
In the settings, accessibility you can make fonts bolder, that helps a bit.
THe yellow paper...sorry, no tweak for that unless you find a different notes app to use.

  • List of issues with new look bt vision

    Hi,
There are a lot of things that are no longer present in the new look bt vision.
As such they out weigh the "benefits"
Will these issues be addressed at all - and is BT aware of them?
    Issues:
    1. crashing - it crashes randomly once a week - the old one never crashed once in years.
    2. Information - less information now about all programs - no director, only half the actors - normally one sentance now - before it had lots.
    3. Slow - sometimes it doesnt react to the controller - then all of a sudden it will "wake up" and do all the button presses i have been trying - in a split second.
    4. Interface - why must it move the chanels down when i just want to look at the info on  a program - not intutative. Yes i have "given it a go" for a few weeks now. so i am looking at the 5 main channels - i just want to get info on one program but it moves the whole thing down.
    5. Interface - on demand. Why cant we fast scroll down any more in the movies section. Why do i have to press Down 92 times just to get to the bottom of all the Vision Films. If this was USA i could sue for R.S.I - oh and new batteries for my controller. Bring back the fast down - it works in the TV guide - but not in Movies.
    6. Recording films that have a 5 minute news in the middle - now means i have to record 2 films
    7. TV guide - just having to press that extra button to get back to the TV is very annoying. I dont like it at all - the designer must think people would liek to spend more time in the menu than watching the TV!!
there are other points but im at work at the moment and cant remember them.
Main gripe is its soo time consuming to use the on demand due to not being able to scroll quickly that i dont see any benefit with BT Vision in its present state.
I used to be a big fan and recommended this to friends - i now say the opposite.
The menu should be functional - you try scrolling through all the on demand films (in list or the other mode) - how many button presses do you need?
very unhappy - please fix this
    regards
    Jim

That's a function of using the Freeview+ EPG which BT have no control over. There was no shortage of users asking for this on the old system for various reasons. This won't change unless Freeview changes it, so get used to it.

Not really sure what your problem is here, it's the same amount of button presses either way and it probably makes the interface faster to have a single current channel line than fiddling around with display on multiple lines.
