New mac and logic pro 9

Last week my old G5 died and I,m looking at getting a new mac and logic pro 9.
My G5 had logic pro 7 and 8 installed on it. I was wondering do I need to install
those back on my new mac so I can upgrade to logic 9 or could I just install logic 9 on my new computer. I have the key that came with logic 7 and that's what I used to install logic 8 with. I really don't want to put those on my new computer. Also will logic 9 load my logic 8 songs.
Thanks for your help,
Chuck Floyd

No.

Yes.

Why not? You could install just the apps, they do not take much space and you know for sure you can always open your old projects.
Also will logic 9 load my logic 8 songs.
In principle, yes. But it can vary, depending on what you use(d) in those L8 projects (environment alterations, 3rd party plugins etc etc). If they won't load, use L8. I'ld advise you to install both L7 and L8, just in case. Just skip the samplecontent etc on both installs, do only the apps themselves.

  • New mac mini, logic pro x...best way to set up?

Hi folks. Ive a new mac mini i5 and i want to download logic pro x. Id love any advice. For example, i presume that loading the program onto the main hardrive and content for samples onto another is the ususal way to increase speed and cpu but how do i go about this with the mini? anyway, any advice from mini owners with lpx would be appreciated. Cheers.

I presume you are downloading Logic Pro X from the App Store in which case there is no option of where to install the application. It will be installed in the /Applications folder on the boot drive.

Assuming you have an external hard drive with a high speed (Firewire 800, USB 3SS, or Thunderbolt) interface and a 7200 rpm HD, you might see some I/O speed improvement due to a lack of conflict on the bus, but if you new Mac mini has a Fusion drive, which ends up being almost as fast as an SSD (Solid State Drive), and any speed improvement from moving the data to an external drive would be probably be marginal at best. If you want to increase CPU speed then get the upgrade Mac mini with the 2.6GHz quad core i7 processor and no matter what processor you get, max out the RAM memory at 16GB. Apple is awfully proud of its RAM so you might consider getting the additional RAM from Other World Computing or Crucial and save $100 or so.

  • New SSD and Logic Pro X

    Hi Guys,
Recently bought a 512 SSD to replace my 500 SATA in my 2010 Macbook Pro(8GB RAM) as it was slowing down a tad. I have always kept a Time Machine backup on a spare hard drive i have which i update weekly (well, almost weekly..)
I have heard from someone at my university that when they bought a SSD and used there time machine backup to restore it, all of their plug-ins, effects etc needed to be reautharised. I have collected plug-ins for years and have no idea on their authorisation codes so am a lil' worried about using Time Machine.
I heard that CarbonCopyCloner is better to use as it its more accurate in restoring hard-drives?
So the question is, can I use CarbonCopyCloner to clone my current SATA Hard-drive on to my spare hard drive, and then replace the SATA with the SSD and use the spare hard drive with the cloned SATA on to avoid having to reauthorise everything...
Bit wordy i know.. but any help appreciated in the best way to go about this.
    Regards, Dan

Carbon Copy Cloner will indeed do a better job, but note that you may still need to re-authorise some plugins/applications depending on their method oof identifying the Mac. Some will 'notice' that you have changed the hardware config.

eBay or Craigslist would be the only choice.

  • About to purchase new mac: Migrating Logic

    Hi,
I'm about to purchase a new mac and I don't have my original Logic disks. I've got the studio upgrade disks and obviously the serial from original logic.
    I'll have to migrate.
From peoples experience, will I have any problems migrating Logic from my Macbook Pro Snow Leopard to Imac Lion?
    Thanks.
    Spot.

I upgraded from Logic Pro to Logic Studio.
So, yes the upgrade pack does have the disks needed.
Sometimes I'm a little slow, and need to sort of say things out loud...
    Thanks for your patience.
    Spotty.

  • Can you run Logic Pro 8 and Logic Pro X on the same machine?

    Hello all!
Congratulations to us on the release of the new Logic Pro!
I am still running Logic Pro 8 (and was waiting for X to come out since I knew it wasn't too far off) but am concerned over the loss of 32-bit plug-ins with Logic Pro X (the wrapping of my old VST plug-ins alone hurts!).  I've heard that installing Logic Pro X doesn't in any way gimp Logic Pro 9's usage, but can someone confirm whether or not Logic Pro X and Logic Pro 8 can operate in harmony on the same Mac?
As a bonus, is there any reason to believe that Apple would disable earlier versions of Logic Pro (such as version 8) from running on Mavericks?
I am planning my Logic Pro and Mac OS migrations!  Thanks!!

  • M-Audio Fast Track USB and Logic Pro X

I wanted to share this tip in case anyone else has the same issue I had.
I attempted to use the Fast Track USB audio interface with Logic Pro X. It had worked in every version of Garageband since version 3, as well as older versions of Logic Express and Logic Pro, so I assumed it would work out of the box with Logic Pro X.
With it plugged in correctly, and my guitar connected to it, I added a new audio track to my project - ensuring the Fast Track was set as the input device, and input 2 was selected (input 1 is the XLR input on the device) - and enabled playback monitoring. There was no sound. Additionally, the button to enable recording was not present for the track. The same was true for every new track I added that used the Fast Track as the input device.
I tried everything: in Logic Pro X > Preferences > Audio > Devices, I toggled between the built-in input and the Fast Track; I restarted the software; I unplugged and plugged in the Fast Track, and I restarted the system. None of these worked. Then I had an idea.
In the Applications > Utilities folder on my Mac, I opened the Audio MIDI Setup app. This opened the Audio Devices window. I clicked on the plus at the bottom left and chose to Create Aggregate Device. I named this device by double-clicking the name on the left, then on the right I checked Built-in Input and Fast Track, taking note of which inputs belonged to the Fast Track in this new device (for me, inputs 3 and 4).
After restarting Logic Pro X, I chose this new aggregate device as my input device, chose input 4 for recording, and suddenly everything worked correctly.

I contacted Logic Pro X support and they said that they are working on an update.  They were very helpful, so no worries guys.  They know that there is an issue and they are working on it A.S.A.P.  They told me if I needed to continue production to use time machine and go back before the update and restore Logic Pro X (before 10.0.5).
They understand, so give them a break...    They are working as fast and hard as they can.  I talked with one of the programmers directily.   They are probably not getting any sleep over this.

  • Can't create a new project in Logic pro . Goes straight to a midi file. Do I shut something down before trying to create a new project

Can't create a new project in Logic pro . Goes straight to a midi file. Do I shut something down before trying to create a new project?

When you open Logic, close the project that its automatically brought up (see CCT's answer above, which explains how you can change that behaviour, if you like - I usually want to listen to the last thing I was doing, but its your choice - and then File>New.
So, yeah, you do have to close the currently loaded project first.

  • Difference between Logic Express 8 and Logic Pro 9

I am wondering if there is a big difference in these 2 versions.  I mostly do vocals, where I bring in a karaoke track, and then sing multiple tracks to it, so I'm wondering if it pays to step up to Logic Pro 9.

    Hi
Many of the new features in Logic Pro 9 are discussed on Apple's product pages http://www.apple.com/logicpro/

This sounds different than with my IOS devices, since I am able to see the photos even with a connection to the Internet.
Do you mean without a connection to the internet? With a connection it's logical you would be able to see the PS.
The following is from iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
Can photos be saved or downloaded from a shared photo stream?
Yes. Once photos are shared, anyone who can view the shared photo stream can download and keep the photos permanently.
On a device using iOS 6 or later, you can save photos to the Camera Roll. On a Mac, using iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4, you can save photos from the shared stream to your local Photo Library or any other location on your Mac. On a Windows PC, you can copy photos from a shared photo stream to any folder. On the web, photos can be downloaded directly to your computer from the detail view of each photo.
This tells me that the image files are not on the HD unless the subscriber chooses to download them.

The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

OS X uses a unique identifier so there will be no problems.

Do not use Migration assistant to move the iphoto library - it has a poor record in doing this and often creates problems
Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
This gives you the exact same photos and organization on both systems - going forward the two systems are totally separate - there is no way to automatically keep them the same - you can use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  to move photos between the two systems
