I currently have a mac mini and iphone. I am going to be getting a new macbook soon. I have been syncing my mail itunes stuff and photos etc between my mac mini and phone with no issues. What do i need to do when i get my new mac book so that my itunes account, mail, photos etc are the same on all three devices. I want it so i can sync my iphone to either the mac mini or the mac book when ever i need to. does not have to be up to date all the time and would rather not fork out the money for mobile me as i really dont need to be in sync every minute of the day.

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and the same for photos transferred to an iPhone. When syncing iTunes content and photos with another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred to the iPhone from another computer will be erased first.
You can sync contact info, calendar events, and bookmarks with the supported applications on multiple computers.
If you want to sync iTunes content - music, videos, podcasts, and 3rd party apps with your new MacBook, you will need to transfer your iTunes library from your Mini to your MacBook, and the same for photos.
Before syncing contact info and calendar events with the Address Book and iCal on your MacBook, enter one contact in the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your MacBook before syncing this data. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select.
You can continue syncing iTunes content and photos with your Mini along with contact info, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks, and sync contact info, calendar events, and Safari Bookmarks only with your MacBook.

Some may already exist, but you will have to learn them. On my old system these can be found through keyviewer.app For example, if I press option+s I get ß Umlaut is a bit cumbersome as option+u then the actual letter. It may be possible to bind a key to do this function, possibly through System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts
I have old, old references for utilities that let you rebind keys to other functions, and you would have to see if they have modern equivalents.

I have tried to install Windows 8.1 64 on my new Mac Book Pro from a full install disc. When I get the the choice of partitions to install Windows 8.1 on the Windows installer says that the Bootcamp partition is not valid.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?

BCA creates the partition as FAT, which the installer needs to format.

I have Logic on my iMac and want to install it on my new mac book but my mac book doesn't have a dvd drive. I tried to download the upgrade but it looks for an older version. How do I get Logic on the Mac book ?

You can only use the App Store version to reinstall on your new Mac if you bought Logic via the App Store in the first place.... and then it will appear under the Purchases tab in the Mac App Store App so long as you are signed in using the same Apple ID you used to purchase Logic via the App store in the first place.
If you bought the DVD edition of Logic Studio then you must initially install using those original DVDs to begin with and then update to the latest version of your version of Logic via software updates.
No DVD drive? Buy an external one.. Amazon do a very cheap basic one that works well..
or...
Use Remote Disk if you still have your older Mac which has a built in DVD drive...

.. and by the way, the jump from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 7.0 (or higher) isn't an "update" It's a full version "upgrade" that has to be done using the install discs (or disc images).

Problems with new Mac Book Pro 13'' +power adaptor

Hi there,
I'm new here and first of all I'd like to appologize from my lack of technical language, since my only interesst in computers is that they don't give me problems so I can keep not knowing too much about them.
Ok, so I bought the new Mac Book Pro 13'' exactly 2 months ago cause my old and long travelled Power Book G4 died. I didn't hesitate to spend the money to buy the new one, cause I was so happy with my experience with the old one and in my mind returning to PCs was not even considered.
BUT...I'm not totally happy about my new laptop...from day 1 Safari would just close itself but I didn't give too much thought about it. After this, not only Safari can close up to several times a day, but also iphoto or any other program that I use for work. But that's not all..One day it would take minutes to start running and it would go extremely slow...another day it would start also very slow but also it wouldn't show the tools bar on top or my folders. Another time it would show me, instead of the normal starting page, a page where it would ask me to accept or not a kind of revision for hardware. After so many problems of course I pressed yes...everything seemed normal, then computer started and seemed to be running normal again (aside from this safari and other programs that shut down). Today my computer, when moved, just went totally blank but fortunately I could start it with nor problems after it.
So...anyone knows what the problem must be?? Should I take it to a Technical service ??? and there's another issue...i'm handing in m phD in a week so I can't just be without computer now, and in a week I'm flying to Canada where I also will need my computer for work...what can I do???
And the second problem...the power adaptor from the beginning seemed to act funny sometimes...sometimes charching, sometimes not, I would follow the instructions in the support part and after being several minutes changing one cord for the other, to keep it 1 minute disconnected and so at some point it would start functioning again. But this happened seldom so also I would think it was a protectiion mechanism of the adapter. But, when this is happening more often than not, then it gets annoying. Also I've been transporting it in a careful way since I bought it to find that after only 2 months in the cord (from the computer to adaptor) you can see the internal cable as if there was some cut...a third one seems to be appearing too. I've taken it to the technical support and the guy who was helfpul but also honest said he couldn't do anything for me cause since there were those cuts, he could always be said that it was a misuse of it-an accident and then he would have to pay the replace himself. Well, it's not!!! My old adaptor has been transported in a way less careful way and it's survived with NO problems for 5 years. The material is clearly different from the old cord. This one because it's new, I only need to put it in a special bag air protected. Honestly I don't feel happy to pay 80 € for an adaptor that I don't know if it's gonna last me only 2 months or that I know I can't transport normally. The guy suggested me to ask in forums and to call directly to the apple technical service.
Again, has anyone had any similar problems with the adaptor???

Take it to an Apple retailer and have the computer repaired. It is still in warranty.

TS3694 Just took my 1st gen iPod out of it's original box, never used before. Plugged it into my new Mac book Pro and it recognizes that the iPod is in recovery mode but when I click to restore, error 1611 comes up - but that error code doesn't say what

I had an 8GB 1st gen iPod in it's original box in storage and just took it out to hook it up. Charged it overnight, plugged it into new Mac Book Pro and it was recognized as being an iPod in recovery but other identifying information was all indicated as "n/a" (so, unknown OS, etc). Error code 1604 came up so I downloaded iTunes on the Mac Book and it is currently showing version 10. But now when I try to restore the iPod, error code 1611 comes up and the troubleshooting doesn't tell me what else to try. The USB connector that came with the iPod was also never used before - brand new also from the box so that should be fine. I also tried a different USB port on the Mac Book. Any ideas?

HT1751 How do I move my entire iTunes library from my iomega hard drive to my new Mac Book Pro? I no longer want to keep my music on the external drive.

Because of a lack of enough memory on my old Mac Book, I put all my music on an external hard drive. Now that I have a new Mac Book Pro with lots of memory, I want to move the music onto this new computer but I haven't been able to yet. I tried the migration assistant but that didn't work. Any suggestions?

I may sound like a real rookie here, but on my new MacBook Air there isn't a "Pictures" folder under "Users/kendallwilson" like there used to be on my old MacBook Pro (Early 2011). Copy the entire iTunes folder within the music folder on your old Mac to the music folder on your new Mac.
You can use an external hard disc for the transfer, or you can connect the computers together using Firewire Target Disc Mode as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661

Can I use my lightroom 5 CD on more than one computer? Toshiba to my new Mac Book Pro?

I have Lightroom 5 CD that I've used for 2 years in my Toshiba laptop. I have a new Mac Book Pro and was wondering if I purchase an external CD for it, can I use my software on my new computer. I wasn't sure if it can be used on more than one computer...It doesn't say on the software box.

How Do I transfer existing I-tunes library which is on old Pc to new mac book for I-tunes use?

We recently purchased a new Macbook pro, along w/an Apple Time Capsule(2TbHD-wireless router).
We have a pretty significant size (21GB) I-tunes Library located on our dinosaur Vista (64) terd of a Pc.
We have several copied Cd's in this Library in addition to multiple Songs purchased under different Apple Id's overtime in I-tunes.
We were able to transfer a copy of the 21GB library (wirelessly) to the time capsule. (which seemed to take a long time...2hours.)
Both computers are now on the Time Capsule home network.
The question we have is what is the recommended way for us to utilize all that is in our 21GB Library with the new Mac book.
Should I, in I-tunes advanced preferences identify the library location as the Time Capsule...?
Or would it be best if I transefered the 21GB to the Mac books hard drive?

Quit iPhoto if open.
Open your Pictures folder and select the iPhoto Library.
Copy the iPhoto Library folder or package to your new computer.

Well if you use the Finder Go menu to Computer, a window opens up double click on your boot drive and then on Users folder, open the other user folder and open Public and drop your files into DropBox
When you do this it will copy them and change the permissions and user assigned to it, so log into the other user and place them into your respective normal folders.
Once you have all your files over and don't need the old user, use System Preferences > Accounts to delete it if you wish, however it's good two Admin accounts on the machine in case something bad happens in the other. Some people for security reasons on use a Standard account for most uses and a emergency Admin account.
One can still do most Admin things in Standard user.

Use the existing Apple ID, so you can sync your data between your phone and your Mac.

iCloud does the job for you. Both your iPhone and your Mac should have asked you to enable it during their first setup. See -> http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
You do not have to create a new Apple ID for your MacBook Pro. If you do that, you may have problems syncing your purchases.
