and need the new iTunes 11.1 to be able to use my iPhone on iTunes but I need the new mac software update OXS 10.6.8, but my mac doesn't need or have an update what should I do! I'm upset :'(

    The requirements for iTunes:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
Your Mac must be able to run OSX 10.6.8. If you can run that OSX then you can run iTunes 11.1.
    Which Mac do you have?

  • Is it ok that the new Mac IOS update take a long time?

    Guys,
I have more than one hour waiting for the new Mac IOS update. Is it normal? The screen is only with the Apple and 1/4 of progress. Thanks! Ricardo.

The update is about 1.5 GB. So the time to download it is entirely dependent on your Internet connection speed.

I have a new Mac Air, updated the software, downloaded Pages & Numbers but cannot open .wps documents from friends.   .wps is the format used by Microsoft Works word processor. Can anyone open .wps on Lion?

Only MsWorks opens .wps on the PC, what chance has Mac OSX got?

  • Installed my logic 9.0.0 on my new mac pro, updated it to 9.1.5, it accepts my serial, but then asks me for an "original serial" that I don't have..? What should I do ?

    Please Help !
I bought Logic studio, with logic pro 9.0.0 last year, worked perfectly on my macbook pro.
Just got a new mac pro, with macos 10.7 Lion.. I install the software, serial works,
then I update the software, because 9.0.0 can't open in os 10.7, and after accepting my serial,
it asks me for an "original serial" that I have no idea about..
    sry for the english..
Please HELP, I cant survive without logic more than an hour !

I think this is a known problem with Lion and some installs of Logic, I've seen it mentioned before.

  • New mac mini - updated 10.5.7 then no display at all

Just purchased a new mac mini 320gb. Set it up via dvi to hdmi to display on my Sony Bravia W series 52" LCD. All worked good and was very happy with the crispness of the image etc. Then did system update to 10.5.7 and now there is no longer any signal to the TV at all. I've tried 2 HDMI cables, reset the SMC and drunk a few beers - and none of this activity seems to have helped. Very frustrating!!
Recent forum discussions have not highlighted identical issues - anyone had similar?
    Cheers
    DKW1

My mini did the exact same thing when I upgraded to 10.5.7 on my Sony Bravia XBR4.
The mini would try and start up as I could see the gray screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel on the Sony screen. Then the screen would turn black.
I used my other computer to connect to the mini using Screen Sharing. Once connected to the mini, I set the screen resolution to 1920x1080 and a few minutes later the Sony screen finally showed the mini again. Why it took a few minutes, I have no idea.
Something apparently changed in 10.5.7 but mine is working again.

  • New Mac Software update causes blue screen

    Hello, I need some help...
I Updated my Macbook Pro with the reqular Mac software update (includes quicktime, itunes and a couple others) I was given the option to "shut down" or "restart"...
    I clicked "shut down".
My computer then proceeded not to turn off but simply turn to a blue screen...
After some time I turned off my machine and restarted it...
It took a little longer time to start up as it usually does after a software update...
But after going through the main white screen with the apple, then moving through to the next screen that has the loading bar. that loading bar window comes up for a split second and then disappears leaving a blue screen with the cursor and then does nothing more...
I am stuck with a blue screen and a curser...
I have already tried to start up in safemode...
Any help would be much appreciated

Very astute question, for Tiger on Intel you must use the exact install disk for that Model, Gray in color for one thing.
One thing to try other than a Safe Boot...
Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Tough without the Tiger Disk problems, but try fsck...
To use fsck, you must run it from the command line. Unlike using your mouse to open an application to do something, you'll need to type a text command at the prompt (#) to tell fsck what to do. The Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities) and single-user mode are two examples of command-line interfaces in which you can type such commands. To use fsck:
    1. Start up your computer in single-user mode to reach the command line. Hold CMD+s keys down at bootup.
Note: If necessary, perform a forced restart as described in the Emergency Troubleshooting Handbook that came with your computer. On desktop computers, you can do this by pressing the reset/interrupt button (if there is one) or holding down the power button for several seconds. On portable computers, simultaneously press the Command-Control-power keys. If your portable computer doesn't restart with this method, you may need to reset the Power Manager.
    2. At the command-line prompt, type /sbin/fsck -fy
(SPACE between fsck AND -fy important)
    3. Press Return. fsck will go through five "phases" and then return information about your disk's use and fragmentation. Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:

The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***

Important: If this message appears, repeat the fsck command you typed in step 2 until fsck tells you that your volume appears to be OK (first-pass repairs may uncover additional issues, so this is a normal thing to do).
    4. When fsck reports that your volume is OK, type reboot at the prompt and then press Return.

    777iPod,
This is a good guide to help with kernel panics: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
I think it's Support policy, even prior to an archive and install, to have a user first remove any third party RAM and third party devices to verify that none of those are causing the kernel panics. We weren't told if that was done, but I've assumed so. If third party RAM was allowed to remain installed, it is not unusual for it to be the source of kernel panics.
I don't know if it's part of the Support checklist, but when making changes like that, or when replacing hardware or software in general, I have always followed that up with a PRAM reset. I realize that usually Macs will recognize (plug & play) such changes, but my experience has been that it's better to just do the PRAM reset, or else be prepared to shut down and then do a fresh startup so that the system can do its usual self-testing that is performed during startup.
If it was an archive and install that Support recommended to jmanwee, and if it did not resolve the issue, I believe their next suggestion will be to erase and install.
Once third party devices and software have been eliminated as the potential cause of the kernel panics, I imagine Support will have no problem arranging for hardware repairs.
I'm probably overlooking something, but referring to the above link should help anyone get their situation resolved.

  • New Mac User Update

Alright, so I've had my MB for a while now, I originally started with a 2.2Ghz, 1GB, 120GB MacBook, SIXTEEN DAYS after I got it, I returned it to the Apple Store for a new model w/o restocking fees and no extra charge (don't ask for the store). I come from a Windows world, and initially I loved my Mac. So now I'm a few weeks into using it. How do I like it now?
    *MORE THAN EVER*
The new revision seems more sturdy than my previous, the keyboard has more resistance to it, and it's overall snappier. I've got Windows Vista Business Edition installed as well as Office 2007 Enterprise Edition on Boot Camp via a 40GB partition. I notice a slight delay in startup when using two partitions, but nothing too bad. If I didn't need Windows and Office for school work, I wouldn't have them installed. If Apple releases 64-bit drivers for Vista I'll be happy as I got my 64-bit DVD via DHL today.
Now, on to the things that irk me.
When I use Windows I have Mac tendancies. That's it. Haha, I love this thing, I swear, ANYONE that is considering a Mac, GO FOR IT... best investment I've ever made. Windows, I troubleshoot all the time (I still have a GeForce 8600GTS I've got to send back), but everything works.
On a side note, how well does the Radtech Ice Cream Polish work? I've got a few minor scuffs on my casing despite using a case. I've given up on babying this as much as I have. I do clean and maintain it though.

I was a HARDCORE PC guy. ****, I even bashed you guys for a bit then the Mac bug bit me. I started using it @ work due to our marketing people and took some classes in Austin. The heart of the enemy! (or so I thought!)
Look both systems freeze and crash no matter what the propaganda BUT the Mac does have a very friendly, easy, just plain cool style to it. I am still in my 1st week of using MY OWN MACBOOK but I have to say it is great! I still love my Dell XPS because it just has WAY TOO many games that kick butt to ignore. However as times change I am sure developers will eventually catch up.
Thanks Apple, hope you'll forgive this old PC guy and bring it into "hug harbor".

  • Anyone else having problems with the new Mac Mavericks update? I get static sound at random times now?

Macbook 2009 does static sound on google chrome and so does my mac desktop. This is all started under Mavericks 10.9.2 for me.

Nevermind I fixed it. Atleast I think I did, I just set my audio to 24-bit and 9600khz or whatever its called and it sounds clear now. At least I hope that fixed the problem.

  • IMovie '11 available alone for $15 at new Mac App Store

To get to this you have to download the new Mac OS update (10.6.6)--something oddly not mentioned on the e-mail Apple sent out alerting people of the new site. Just use Software Update and an icon is placed in the Dock (and an Application called App Store is place in the Applications folder) when you install the update.

I wish they would make iMovie 06 available in the App Store. We sometimes have to pay over $100 for iMovie 06. That's a lot of money for teachers.

Many recommend installing updates separately as a downloadable file, this they claim makes the installation more stable for your system. I was skeptical about this procedure at first, however I've noticed that the repair permissions procedure goes much faster with fewer glitches.

  • New OS X Update 10.6.4?

Hi all. I've heard all kinds of scary tales about people updating their OS and afterwards were unable to use LE. I just discovered that there is this new Mac OS update: 10.6.4. Is it safe to get it? I'm running LE9, OS X (10.6.3), Macbook Pro 2.44 Mhz.

You should be safe to update. I had no problems with 10.6.4 whatsoever. However, as every reasonable geek recommends, make a backup before!

  • HT204266 I am trying to connect a blackberry playbook to the Mac.  I have OS 10.5.1 and it says I need OS 10.6.  Is that a free update or do I have to purchase a new OS?  I just want to load music on to the playbook.

Trying to connect a blackberry playbook to the Mac.  It says I need OS6.  Is that a free update or do I have to buy a whole new operating system?  Just want to download some music to the playbook.  Also, is it possible to use a iTunes card directly to the playbook and bypass the Mac?  Thanks for any info you can provide.

The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 or 10.8 is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.

  • I just purchased a new iMac. Will mountain lion be offered as a free update?

I purchased a new iMac on Monday. Will the new OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) be offered as a free update for people who just purchased a new Mac?

Almost certainly not, since Moutain Lion won't make an appearance until this summer (at least 4 months off) and Apple historically has offered free OS updates to purchasers of new Macs within 1 month of a new major OS release.
Don't worry about it, though. The upgrade to Mountain Lion through the Mac App Store will most likely be a simply $30, which is very small for a full OS version bump.

  • I intend to buy new mac pro, is it better to wait for the new OS X mountain, or can buy it and we can update it without affecting its performance?

I intended to buy new mac pro, is it better to wait for new OS X moutain or can buy it now and update it later as it will not affect its performance???

If you can wait about a 3 months after 10.8 is released this summer and upon new hardware you should be in excellent shape to have not only a fastest latest machine, but a OS X version that all the bugs have been worked out. Plus the three free months of Apple hand holding while they figure out what they did wrong with the new OS version.
If you need a new machine now you'll have to get what you need obviously, but 10.8 should run on it just fine. However know that Apple tweaks things with more currently sellling hardware first, then later gets to the previous released models.
It's been my guestimation that your good for about two year old hardware with very recent OS X release, three years or older hardware you may want to reconsider sticking with the previous OS X version as your hardware is getting dated and likely has only a year left to go anyway (4 year average), so why bother mucking it up, slowing it down and having to buy all new/updated software and third party hardware because they won't make drivers for your new OS version?
