New mac linked to existing xsereve account

Our xserve was set up by someone who no longer works for the company. We had a break in the other night and 2 of our macs were stolen. When the replacements arrive how do  I set them up to log in to the existing xserve user accounts?

Hello, markfromhuddersfield, and welcome to the AppleBoards,
There's no easy way to answer that question without knowing a lot about your current set-up.
Do user's home directories reside on the server? Then the new computers need to be bound to the server using Directory
Are files simply being shared over AFP or other methods? Then new users simply need to connect to the server via Connect to Server
Is your server handling DHCP and DNS?New machines will need to have the networking set correctly to function in your environment
Is your server handling SSO/Kerb over OD, printing management or other services?
You really need someone to examine the computers currently attached to the network and then replicate that to the new computers. It should be pretty straightforward for someone who knows what they're looking for to determine proper set-up from your remaining computers.
Good luck,
=Tod
PS General OS X Server questions can go in that discussion group and you'll probably get more people reading it rather than in the Xserve/Server group which is often about the things particular to servers themselves.

  • Hi I am trying to connect a new mac to an existing time capsule but Airport Utility is just not picking it up. What am I missing?

I have tried to connect the new mac to an existing time capsule both directly through ethernet and through wifi. Both times I get Internet connection OK but Airport Utility is stuck searching for the base station. I have two existing macs which are connected fine and have both been backing up quite happily. The first two macs are the same user (me) and the new one is for a different user in the house. All the macs are running Mavericks.
I have tried rebooting the time capsule and the new mac - didn't help.
Any information as to what I can try would be most welcome.
    Many thanks

    Hi All
I have solved my problem! It was the old chestnut the firewall issue. We have McAfee firewalls on our machines and the wifi network was set up as a public rather than a home network. I changed it to Home or Work and het presto the time capsule appeared. I didn't have this problem with the other machines at all.
    I hope this helps someone!!

  • New iPhone 5 and existing iCloud account

I recently got my wife an iPhone 5 for the holidays. We are a multiple Apple family with 2 iPads, iPods, etc... Problem is, I set up her new iPhone on my existing iCloud account with out realizing it would send all my messages and contacts to her phone. Easy solution seems to be having her set up her own iCloud, but with that, I don't think I can use Find My iPhone (with 2 separate iCloud accounts). Is this correct? I can't be the first person struggling with this. Please help! Thank you!

Use separate Apple ID for iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime. Use a common one for iTunes & App Stores.
You can use Find my iPhone by sign in with her Apple ID in www.icloud.com or in Find my iPhone app in another iDevice.

  • Link the existing AD account  before it tries to create

    Hi guys,
In my project I need to AD re-links, Currently the solution is implemented in such a way that when the user is created in IDM ( Manually or through Trusted resource recon) the AD user creattion automatically gets triggered and AD user gets created and linked to the IDM account.
but when the user is already existing in AD it is throwing exception saying that the user already existting and it is failing to link that user account.
Hence we are planning to implement a solution that to check the user existance in AD first before it triggers AD User creation and link the AD account if it exists else create the AD account.
But I am not able to figure out where exactly the system is configured to trigger the AD user creation process.
If any one implmented AD connector and this kind of Automatic AD User Creation implementation please help me, I am little new to OIM.
    Thanks,

    1) Well for linking the existing user in AD to the OIM users, you would want to run the AD Target Resource Reconciliation and that is something you should do. Here is a reason for that: AD generates a run time value GUID and thats precisely a key field for AD connector for future reconciliations. If you are using this field then better run this scheduler and you are all set for future tasks as well.
    2) Now there is another field which may be used for reconciliation rule- SAMAccountName and this is what is causing this error for you. You can anyway build a custom process task in the OOTB connector which checks the validity of the AD ID (SAMAccountName). For your case if ID is found to be existing then just call another dummy process task Link User which is mapped to an adapter that just returns Success and the Task to object status mapping should be set to Provisioned for response Completed and so your process form attributes are intact and resource status shows as Provisioned. Next update task for this user runs successfully.
But here is the deal, your AD and OIM are not in sync, so you have to run a scheduler AD Target Resource Reconciliation anyway.
So better is just suppress the logic for Access policy invocation for initial user reconciliation and have all these users created in OIM. Now run AD Target Resource Reconciliation scheduler, this links those accounts to OIM user. Now your target AD and OIM are in sync. Just re-set those access policies and you are all set.
    Thanks

  • How to set up iTunes on new Mac if already have iTunes account on old PC

I got a new iMac and started an iTunes account and hooked up my iPhone.  Now it says that I can only use my iPhone on 1 computer and I would need to erase my current iPhone and sync it with the empty new ITunes account. • How do I transfer my entire music collection to a new computer and sync my iphone with new mac without deleting existing music in iphone?

    Hi All,
I will describe my current setup and the required setup below. Please help me with the steps to do this
    Current setup:
    OS: Windows 7
Total Music collection: 80GB of mp3 , which is NOT added to itunes library (I use foobar)
iTunes Music collection: around 500 songs, synced to my iphone (unchecked "manually manage" that meeans all these songs are in itunes library)
Now the required setup: (Since I am planning to get a macbook pro)
OS: Mac OS  (This means the music file path will be different)
Total Music collection: 80GB which is to be added to itunes library
iPhone Music: The same 500 songs as before.
Is this possible? In Mac OS I want my entire 80GB to be added to itunes library, also keeping my existing iphone songs intact.
    Any ideas?

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
Longer answers if for any reason you do not think all library files are inside your iTunes folder (changed preferences settings at some point):
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
2011 ilounge article: Transferring your iTunes library - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/  - An article with good background information (similar to the links above), particularly if you are not sure your media files are all grouped for quick answer above. Unfortunately under the single term "transferring library" it describes two very different moves; relocating just your media (not  really transferring your library and not recommended unless you really need this configuration), and relocating media+database (really your whole "library").  Make sure you understand the difference before electing to move only media.
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
Consider moving everything from your Windows PC to your Mac in a single move, including your iTunes library: About Windows Migration Assistant - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4796 - Learn about how to use Windows Migration Assistant to migrate your files from a Windows PC to a Mac.
Transferring the library as above will connect your i-device to the same library on the new computer even though it is stored on different hardware. You should not see the "erase & sync" prompt, and syncing will preserve game scores and other data on the device.
As for the 80GB of music in foobar, add that to the iTunes library at some stage by dragging those files to the Automatically Add To  iTunes folder.

  • How do I get my new Mac to sync existing calendar appointments from my Iphone 3gs?

I have set up Mobile Me on both my phone and the Mac, and it is syncing new appointments, but I can't get existing appointments from my phone on to the Mac.  Thanks, Rachel

You will need a program such as Senuti or PodWorks to transfer the other tunes back to the Mac.
The iPod is one way affair except for purchase tunes/video.

  • Clean slate with a new Mac

I am in the process of purchasing a new Mac. My existing Mac is an early 2009 MacBook Pro and contains files dating back prior to OS 9 (maybe even back to OS 6). I wish to start with a clean slate with the new Mac and don’t plan on migrating files from the old computer. However, I would like to bring over my Contacts, Calendar and Mail (Accounts only, no mail history). How would I go about doing that?

Replace any Contacts, Calendar, and Mail folders with those from your old computer. Transfer the folders and also the preference files. These latter are located in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. If your Library folder isn't visible then:
    Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
    A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
    B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
    C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
    ~/Library
    Press the Go button.
The Mail and Calendar folders are in the /Home/Library/ folder while Contacts is in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder, but it is called AddressBook.

  • ISight on new Mac Mini?

What are we supposed to do about a webcam for the new Mini with no Firewire 400?
Third party cams are inferior in image quality, and the Apple displays with integrated iSight are overpriced. Any good solutions?
Does the iSight on the cinema display use the built in USB cable to transfer the image to the computer?

Does anyone know if the belkin cable fits the mounts as well or is it to thick?
The Belkin cable will NOT fit my old Rev A iSight mounts without modification.
If you can't find a thin cable that fits, and if you don't want to modify your original mounts or create new mounts that work with your new cables, you can use your old FW400 cable if you use a 800 -> 400 adapter like one of these to connect your new Mac via your existing cables:

    Hi,
    I have an existing Credit Account: 90008740 with a Sold-to Customer 90008740.
I have created a new Sold-to Customer 90008745 and I want to link it to Credit Account 90008740.

    How can I do that?
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you.

There is no partner function available in the credit management. In the customer master in company code data you could link them using a previous account number.
