New mac long loading on icloud drive

I just got my new and first MacBook Pro today! I am super excited about this but as I'm working my way through the start up process, it asked about upgrading to iCloud Drive, I selected  'not now' and hit continue. my pointer turned into a colorful spinning wheel and has been like this for about 15-20 minutes now. Is this normal or what?

Nevermind. Were all good down here.. It loaded as soon as the question posted!

I have an external network hard drive with a shared music folder (WD MyBookLive), which I can access from Home Sharing and play music on my Windows computers. On my new Mac, I can see the drive and the music in Home Sharing but the tracks will not play. All the other authorized computers in my home network show up in Home Sharing and I can play the content. What's the solution?

How do I clear the Disk and reinstall the OS on my new Mac Mini without an Optical Drive?

If it's a new mini, should have Mtn Lion on it. In any case, restart into recovery mode, and follow the instructions.

Transferring does not work, you need to install using installation files. Downloadable versions can be found at the following linked pages...

    Are you using FileVault perchance?

  • New Mac Mini Server, two Hard drives, Can I install an older Mac OS on the second drive and switch start up disks to run PowerPc applications?

New Mac Mini Server, has two Hard drives, could I install an older Mac OS on the second drive and switch start up disks to run PowerPc applications?

I haven't purchased a Mac Mini at this time and I may not if I can't use it as a non server. I need to update my system I would be better off buying a new Mac with Snow Leopard the last app that will run Rosetta. The Mac Mini Server has a quad 2.0 processor and 4 GB RAM and two internal hard drives and should out perform my dual 1.25 G4. I can run PPC apps on my G4 but it is 8+ years old and seems to be getting noisy. I don't want to tie myself to another old machine. I want a machine that will work with Intel Apps I was hoping that the two hard drives would allow me to boot from the second with Snow Leopard and use Lion on the first drive to be able to keep up to date with all my other universal apps and Mac OS up grades. The application I use the most is my CanvasX app with drawing & vector effects, text & typography, sprite technology, painting, image editing, and multimedia tools are all in this one app but will not be updated to run Intel apps. I am frozen in time because my most valuable Application won't be updated and Apple has cut me off by not supporting PPC in Lion and onward; Apple used to backward support but I guess that they are no longer as user friendly and concerned with a happy user. I have always been a loyal Mac user and I will not migrate to Windows under any circumstance; I hate windows!
    Thanks for your prompt response,

  • Do new macs not have a dvd drive

I think my emac has died.  When. I switch it on i get a blue screen with a sign in to apple but the mouse does not work.  the only way I can switch it off is by the main wall socket.  It is a 2003 running ox10.4
guess its time to bite the bullet and buy a new machine.  What to go for?  Do new macs not have dvd drives any more?

I'd like to figure this out if you can bear with me. I'm retired too so have time to research Mac stuff when I'm not taking a power nap!
There are two families of eMacs with two variants each; some have known issues. If you are up to it, please read this Apple article that lets you find your exact eMac variant by serial number:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2395
Without posting your serial number here, post what model the article says you have.
If the model returns as "eMac (USB 2.0)" that is a group with very bad logic board issues. Affected eMac USB 2.0 units tend to fall in these ranges of serial numbers:
    G8412xxxxxx- G8520xxxxxx
    YM412xxxxxx - YM520xxxxxx
    VM440xxxxxx - VM516xxxxxx
Your symptoms sound like it could be this model. Apple had a repair extension program to replace defective logic boards but it expired over two years ago. Today, the fix is not economically feasible.
Guess I will have to go and look at PCs.
Consider the 13-inch MacBook Pro I linked. I had a 15-incher that I bough about six years ago because I did not think anything smaller would work for my old eyeballs. However, in June I bought the 13-inch as a refurb directly from Apple for only about US$1000 and, as long as I remember to put on my computer glasses, I have no trouble with the smaller screen.
Based of the lack of issues with that model reported in the MacBook Pro forums, it seems a reliable model. My son bought one for university as a refurb. I liked it a lot so bought mine in June.  A friend who had been using 1998-vintage Powerbooks until this year liked mine so much that he bought two. You can use them like a  desktop computer. When I'm not using mine away for home, I have a wireless keyboard and mouse set up for it so it's very much like a desktop until until I hit the road.

  • How do I install Windows on a new Mac Mini (w/o optical drive?)

The new Mac Mini does not have an optical drive and I would like to install Windows with Parallels Desktop 6
Any ideas?  Can I put the iso on a USB drive or mount a NAS?
    Thanks for ay help!
    Enzo

You can burn an ISO of a bootable disc back to a DVD, but not to a USB device. I don't know if Parallels is able to install from an ISO, but it may install from an external drive. This is why you should read the documentation for Parallels or ask at their tech support site.

  • New mac mini and noisy dvd drive

Any time I have a DVD in my brand new mac mini, from commercial DVDs to trying to author a blank DVD, I get the dreaded chainsaw sound that plagues anyone who has owned an xbox 360. Has anyone else suffered with this with their new mac mini or should I send it back to apple

I should have been a little more specific. This happens usually when I try and do slightly disc intensive tasks, such as burn a disc, import a disc to itunes, and I can even get it to sound when I leave a disc in the drive, turn the computer off, and as it's booting it will make the grinding noise. I first thought that the computer couldn't lay on it's side as that's when I first noticed it (sort of like the wii on it's side because this fits my setup), but it makes the same noise whether I have it on it's side or not. This is also not disc specific, I can re-create the noise with different discs, DVDs, CDs when importing to itunes. Guess I'll be taking it to an iTunes store to get it checked out.

  • How can I put Acrobat 8 on a new Mac mini without an optical drive?

I want to install Acrobat 8 on a new Mac mini that does not have an optical drive but only have the original disc.
How can I get it on the new machine?

Acrobat 8 is not compatible with a new Mac mini because of the change in OS. However, you can find the installer download instructions here:
    Download Acrobat products | 9, 8

  • New Mac Mini + Office 2004 Test Drive

Hi everyone. Not sure if this is the correct place to post this question, but I'll give it a shot...
I bought a new Mac Mini a few weeks ago. I just downloaded a Word document from my e-mail and it opened up Office 2004 Test Drive automatically... I agreed to the User Agreement, opened up my Word document, yada yada...
Now, however, it bugs me that this is trial software and I have 30 days to evaluate it. Thing is I actually own Office 2004 and just never got around to installing it on my Mac Mini yet...
So what is the proper way to install it? Do I need to remove Office Test Drive 2004 first, or do I just run the installer off the Office 2004 DVD? What are the proper steps I need to take?
    Thank you,
    Keith

    Remove MS Office Test Drive
On your hard disk, open Microsoft Office 2004 folder that contains the Test Drive. Any documents you saved in the Microsoft Office 2004 Test Drive should be moved somewhere in your documents folder.
In the Microsoft Office 2004 folder, double-click "Remove Office". In the Results window, choose Microsoft Office 2004 (including Test Drive) and then click "continue" and follow the prompts.

  • Brand new Mac Pro.. CD DRIVE DOESN'T WORK!

I just set up my new Mac Pro yesterday, and the cd/dvd drive doesn't work. It worked once, when I was installing a printer, but it made a really bad noise, and now whenever I put any cd or dvd in, it doesn't even recognize it or react.
I don't know what to do.
I know I have a warranty so somebody from apple should be able to help me, but I can't even reach anybody on the customer support phone number.
Does anybody know a way to fix this?

Try depressing the SMC RESET button for 10 seconds, small round button under drive #4 in the rear (with unit unplugged).

  • How do I remove information I put on my new Mac via an external hard drive?

I got a new Mac (Mountain Lion). I'd been backing up my older Mac with an external HD. I used this same HD to transfer my info to the new Mac. Now it looks like I have 2 different user accounts. While I was in the user account that has the information from the external HD I did a system restore but it didn't seem to do anything. How can I remove the information from the external HD that I put on my new Mac???

According to the SONOS site is should just play your music that is in iTunes. Do you have the SONOS system already? Does it see and play your iTunes music.
If so just insert a CD into your system and import the music into iTunes. That should do it.
Before you do this to all 500 CD's I'd so it to one or two and make sure SONOS plays the tracks and they sound OK.
Post back if you have any other questions.
    regards
