Boot Camp - Installation & Setup Guide (OS X Lion)
Frequently asked questions about Lion and Boot Camp 4.0
The BootCamp Drivers have to be downloaded from inside the BootCamp Assistant (called "Windows Support Software").
Reboot into OSX and then go to System Preferences then Startup Volume and set your OSX to be the default.
For the Windows Installation this was altered.

Can I install Windows XP SP1 with Bootcamp on my new Mac Mini 2011 i7 ?

Baiscally if your Mini came with Lion Pre-installed new then No you can't use XP.
The Lion installed computers no longer support XP OR Vista via Apple's Boot Camp.
For one thing Apple only supported XP with SP2 in order to install it on pre Lion computers.
If the Mini had come pre-installed new with say 10.6 then you could have installed XP and still of been able to upgrade to Lion without any issues as you already have the drivers for XP installed. Lion only has the drivers for W7.

I found out that I have 2 female ends, my question is where can I find the adapter with 2 male connectors? and what about power supply to monitor?

  • New Mac Mini+Superdrive+windows 7 - Will it work?

Looking at updating my father to the Apple world, thought I would get him a Mac Mini, and use Bootcamp to install Windows.  As the new Mac Mini doesn't have an optical drive (I have a MacBook Air Superdrive), if I use the external one to install Windows, will it install properly?  Does the Mac Mini have the drivers for the SUperdrive?  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

Well, running 10 Mac Apps whilst Paralles is running XP & W7, here's the results, many DirectX tests ran at dizzing 400+++ FPS!?
I'm certain running off a SATA drive would double this.

  • Mac Mini 2011 Server Won't Detect Bluetooth Keyboard

    Hi all,
My new Mac Mini Server (2011) with Lion preinstalled is causing my some headaches and it is barely out of the box. I have an Apple Wireless Keyboard and a third-party bluetooth mouse. I unpaired both from my Macbook Pro and then tried switching the MBP's bluetooth off and even turning off the whole **** machine. In the mean time, the Mac Mini's Setup Assistant could not find my keyboard, but it did find my mouse. I tried putting fresh batteries in my keyboard and everything looks fine since even my iPad can "see" the keyboard is active. However, because Setup Assistant cannot detect the keyboard, I cannot get past the Setup stage (and hopefully try fiddling with the bluetooth settings). I am compleetly stuck on the page where one has to input an Admininstor's password for the server. A mouse alone cannot get me past this part. Can anyone please please help me?

Start the mini looking for the keyboard then turn the keyboard off and on again (worked for me)

    My mac mini is damaged?

I'm seeing same problem - new mini mac dropping internet randomly during the day.
I bought the 1-year Mac program where I can go in for classes.  I'll schedule one to talk through this.
I'll also do all the software upgrades.
Seems like a pretty general problem.  Maybe it'll get some attention.
My wife hates the mac as a result of these problem.
Most of the time we end up cycling power on the router downstairs, which is a 2-5 minute fix, that's a pain 3 times daily.

  • Problems installing OSX Lion - new Mac Mini 2011

    Hi!
I'm having major problem with my brand new Mac Mini.
I wanted to upgrade it right away after reading so many succeful upgrading reports on various forums so I bought a 120GB Intel 320 SSD disk and 2x4 GB of Kingston 1333mhz ram. I swapped the drives right away and idiotically used to original drive in a case to create an external installation USB-drive (my 4GB USB drives didn't work).
I then created a bootable USB-disk with the external original drive and tried to install but only get the circle with slash after selecting the drive in the "options" menu. If I remove the USB-drive I get a flashing folder icon. If start holding down Command + S I get a message saying that the "version of OSX is not supported on this platform".
I also tried using the Recovery Assistant HD to create a bootable recovery tool but that gives the same results.
    In short:
I can't install OSX Lion on a brand new Mac Mini with upgraded HD and Ram. I don't have the original installation anymore.
    Am I out of luck?

Internet Recovery solved this problem. Option+Command+R.

  • Does the Microsoft desktop 2000 work on the new Mac mini (2011)

I was wondering; does Microsofts desktop 2000 wireless keyboard and mouse work with the new 2011 Mac Mini? It says it requires a disk installation for software or something like that, and the new mini doesn't have an optical drive.. Please answer as soon as possible! Thanks.

If you have another Mac with a CD drive you can use that, however try the following webpage which has a download option for Mac.

  • Mac Mini (late 2009) won't connect to wireless internet

The strangest thing happened to me just recently, a conflicting IP address appeared on my Mac Mini (late 2009) a few days ago. This IP was from one of my other computers. After this other computer had been shut down ever since, I keep on getting theses window messages saying "There is a conflicting IP tommiller". I decided to restart my Mac mini only a few hours ago. I returned and the message stopped appearing, but now I can't connect to my wireless Internet. An exclamation mark appears over the airport icon in the menu bar. I took forth all the steps to restart my wireless router, but nothing worked. The wireless works fine on all my devices except the Mac mini. What really freaked me out is that I have a portable Verzion MIFI, and my Mac Mini can't even connect to that. I'm very knowledgeable with Macs, but I've never had this happen to me before. My worst nightmare would be that the wireless card is shot. If anyone has the answer to end my stressful night, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Tom Miller

Log onto your router and see what IP address are being used.
Then try setting a fixed IP address well away from any of those, using Network settings in system preferences. See if that solves the problem.

  • Time Machine, New Mac Mini 2011 Storage Drives, Restoring... questions!

    Hi all,
I've currently got a 2011 Mac Mini with a 500GB internal drive, and a 1TB Firewire connected external drive. Backups are done as as single operation to my time capsule.
I've just bought a 250GB SSD and 2TB Hard Drive to fit internally to the Mac, and I'm ready to do the install.
    The questions are as follows:
1- Does it matter which way round the drives go inside. Are both interfaces bootable, and when restoring from the time machine backup, can I specify the SSD as the installation drive.
2 - With reference to the above, I guess within the time machine backup there are two sections. 1, my main OS Drive (the 500GB Drive backup) and 2, my external drive backup (the 1TB drive). I presume the recovery console will prompt me to restore the main OS drive, and then when I'm back into OSX I can then perform the restoration of hte other data onto the other internal drive.
Has anyone ever done this, and if so, can they tell me how straightforward it was please?
Really looking forward to more speed, more storage, and less clutter

As far as being bootable, it does not matter which
position the drive is in.  An Option key boot method
will get you to the drive the first time and then set
    default once booted in OSX.
I would suggest that you get yourself and external
USB case or one of the many USB->SATA adapters
and do the initial system restore to the SSD before install.
This way you can verify that all is well with the restore
of OSX (and the drive itself) before installing in the Mini as
this is a task you REALLY want to do only once.
As to your time machine restore question, I will defer that
to someone else as I don't use time machine and personally
    never cared much for it.

  • New mac mini - magic trackpad - won't do initial pairing (hence no anything

So I just got a Mac Mini server, and I've only had laptops in the house up until now (so no USB keyboards or mice), so I got a Magic Trackpad and the wireless keyboard. Upon booting for the first time, I get the expected image to turn on the wireless mouse to pair, so I turn on the magic trackpad and... nothing. I turn it off, I turn it back on. I turn it on and hold the power button. I turn off the MacMini and restart and try again. I do a little dance to the Bluetooth spirits, and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas aside from go out and buy a wired mouse? (Note: I cannot go to preferences, as I cannot get past this initial waiting-for-bluetooth-mouse-screen.)

Probably, it is because the Magic Trackpad requires at least 10.6.4 (and an additional update), or 10.6.5 (out of the box): so, if the install disc is only 10.6.3 or less, maybe it won't detect the trackpad.
You could try first with a wireless (for example, the Magic Mouse works) or wired mouse, and install the trackpad afterwards, after having updated the OS to 10.6.5.

  • New mac Mini 2011/lion Windows 7 black screen at installation

    Hi,
I'm switching to Mac and finally got the new mini i5 2.5Ghz and I'm trying to install W7 professional.
I'm using an external USB dvd r/w unit (a samsung)
In bootcamp i was able to create the driver disk and repartition the existing hard drive in two halfs of 256GB each
But when bootcamp assistant restarts the mini in order to boot from the windows installation disc, I just get a black screen and the W7 installer does not boot,
At that point neither the 32 nor the 64 bit version of W7 boots. The screen simply remains black.
I can boot from the os x partition (keeping the option key pressed unitl the boot disk selection cames out), and Lion works, but any attempt to boot from the dvdrom with w7 fails.
Anyone else encountered this issue and can help ?
    Thanks!

    Go to http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst118DriverPreview.aspx
and install the ATI 11.8 preview drivers.
Once installed, open the catalyst Control center (you should have a red icon in the notification tray)
and in one of the settings there is an "overscan" setting.
you should see a slider, position it to "0%" and you should have full screen.
For some reason the overscan defautl setting is set at -15%, hence the black bars.
I spent quite a lot of time on this, mainly because the bootcamp ATI drivers did not have any setting page I could find. I then installedd the official 11.7 drivers, but I could not get the Catalist Control Center to show up, not sure why.
Finally after reading forums for hours I gave the 11.8 a try, as it seems thare are some improvements (but mostly performances) for the HD 6xxx graphics cards, then finally it worked and i could access the overscan settings.
You may want to try first to see if you have the overscan setting before installing any new drivers.
    Hope this helps

  • Connecting new mac mini and a pc to internet

I have ordered a new mac mini and airport express to connect it to my broadband connection. I have a none wireless pc already connected to the DSL. This is a usb connection to the pc.
Can I connect the dsl to the airport express usb port and then connect my pc to the free ethernet port? Will this work and would the Mac then pick up the connected printer?

Can I connect the dsl to the airport express usb port and then connect my pc to the free ethernet port?
No, this will not work. To use an AirPort Express (or AirPort Extreme) base station, you will need a DSL modem that has an Ethernet port. The reason is that the USB connection requires a software driver to be installed on your computer. Since it's not possible to install drivers (Mac OS, Windows or otherwise) on the AirPort Express because it's not a computer, you'll need to use the Ethernet port. I would recommend you visit the AirPort Express forum. There are some knowledgeable people there who can help you find a new modem that has Ethernet and get everything configured for you.
